This document discusses the role of forensic odontology in solving crimes. It begins by defining forensic odontology as the application of dental knowledge and skills to legal investigations. Several cases are described where forensic odontology helped identify victims or suspects based on dental evidence like bite marks, restorations, appliances and records. Maintaining good dental records can help forensic odontologists match dental evidence to missing persons or suspects. Overall, the document outlines how forensic odontology is an important tool in criminal investigations.
Whenever there is a crime, the culprit leaves some type of evidence. Bitemark is a very peculiar and main evidence for a Forensic Odontologist who studies and tells whether the mark is superficial or cutaneous

Forensic Odontology - A Science within a Scienceasclepiuspdfs
Forensic odontology, a branch of forensic sciences, uses the skill of the dentist in personal identification during mass calamities, gender assault, and child abuse. Its role in the judiciary is of much importance by providing the required information, which will help the legal authorities to recognize negligence, malpractice, abuse, and identification of unknown individuals. The applications of forensic odontology in crime investigations include the identification of teeth that are used as weapons may provide information regarding the identity of the biter. Forensic odontology employs various methods that play a major role in the identification of individuals who cannot be identified individually or by other means.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

3. INTRODUCTION
• Forensic odontology is the application of
dental knowledge to those criminal and civil
laws that are enforced by police agencies in a
criminal justice system.
• Forensic dentists may also be asked to assist
in determining age ,race, occupation,
previous dental history and socio- economic
status of the unidentified human beings.
4. REVIEW OF LITERATURE

5. FORENSIC SCIENCE
• Forensic science is the
application of science to
criminal and civil laws ,
mainly-on the criminal
side-during criminal
investigations, as
governed by the legal
standards of admissible
evidence and criminal
procedures.
7. • Teeth hardest
substance in the body
survive in most
condition
• No two humans have
identical dentition
• It is straightforward
and cheaper.
Advantages
8. LOCARD’s Principle
• According to
Locard’s principle –
there is exchange of
traces between the
victim and the
convict which forms
the basic principle of
forensic science.
10. • Adolf Hitler died in Berlin (1945).
• Charred pieces of bone such as pieces of skull ,the
lower jaw and part of upper jaw and part of lower
jaw consisting of bridge with nine units were found.
12. CASE :2
• 19 year girl was killed
and burned into
ashes.
• Forensic people can
collect only piece of
teeth .
• Forensic odontologist
found that lining
material containing a
large amount of zinc
13. • Later found that the victim restored her
molar with bonded acid etched amalgam
restoration using RELY X ARC (1991 ) contains
zinc
• Percentage of zinc in restorative material
equals zinc in the tooth fragment ,
• Confirms the victim.
15. EVIDENCE COLLECTED
• Saliva is left on
victims dress and DNA
is extracted.
• Bite marks shows
midline diastema
3mm space (most
common in
keralaites).
Two bite marks on left
shoulder of the victim
(12 cm from the root of
the neck,6 cm below
the shoulder).
16. • .
• Mold of teeth of all
suspects were made and
compared by experts from
Gujarat.
• The criminal was arrested
and evidence is submitted
based on the bite marks
and the DNA collected
from the saliva in the dress
of the women match with
the suspect ,here bite
marks play a key role in
identification of the
murderer.
17. MURDER CASE NO:4

22. • Presence of hard
orthodontic
appliance,brackets,
bands.
By comparing
treatment of upper
right first molar
which presented a
fracture in palatal
surface.
23. • By comparing this evidence with
the dental history of the man
confirms the victim
• Here dental recordings and his
restoration ,fixed appliance
helps in identifying the victim
24. CASE:6
DELHI NIRBHYA CASE
• In 2012 DELHI NIRBHYA
case involved death of a
23 year old female
physiotheraphy student.
• 4 people was suspected
and evidence was
submitted by forensic
odontologist Dr.Ashith B
Acharya based on bite
marks on the victim.
25. • Plaster of paris impresions of bite marks
found on victims body and POP teeth models
of all accused are made.
