Signal processing in current days is under studying. One of these studies focuses on speech processing. Speech signal have many important features. One of them is Voice Onset Time (VOT). This feature only appears in stop sounds. The human auditory system can utilize the VOT to differentiate between voiced and unvoiced stops like /p/ and /b/ in the English language. By VOT feature we can classify and detect languages and dialects. The main reason behind choosing this subject is that the researches in analyzing Arabic language in this field are not enough and automatic detection of VOT value in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is a new idea.
In this paper, we will focus on designing an algorithm that will be used to detect the VOT value in MSA language automatically depending on the power signal. We apply this algorithm only on the voiced stop sounds /b/, /d/ and /d?/, and compare that VOT values automatically generated by the algorithm with the manual values calculated by reading the spectrogram. We created the corpus, and used CV-CV-CV format for each word, the target stop consonant is in the middle of word. The algorithm resulted in a high accuracy, and the error rate was 0.80%, 26.62% and 11.71% for the three stop voiced sounds /d/, /d? / and /b/ respectively . The standard deviation was low in /d/ sound because it is easy to pronounce, and high in /d?/ sound because it is uniqueand difficult to pronounce.

Speech disfluency such as filled pause (FP) is a hindrance in Automated Speech Recognition as it degrades the accuracy performance. Previous work of FP detection and classification have fused a number of acoustical features as fusion classification is known to improve classification results. This paper presents new decision fusion of two well-established acoustical features that are zero crossing rates (ZCR) and speech envelope (ENV) with eight popular acoustical features for classification of Malay language filled pause (FP) and elongation (ELO). Five hundred ELO and 500 FP are selected from a spontaneous speeches of a parliamentary session and Naïve Bayes classifier is used for the decision fusion classification. The proposed feature fusion produced better classification performance compared to single feature classification with the highest F-measure of 82% for both classes.

Audiovisual materials have been used in foreign language teaching for a few years now and there is ample literature on the benefits of using such materials. At the same time, new technologies have entered the foreign language classroom in different forms, which help students acquire new competences and allow them to practice in a more autonomous way and in a more amusing environment.
In this paper we will present a new online pedagogical resource: Clipflair. This platform combines both audiovisual materials and new technologies in foreign language learning. It is designed to provide and develop educational materials for different levels and languages that have one trait in common: they all use clips and engage students in tasks of captioning or revoicing. Therefore, it goes one step forward in comparison with traditional activities involving audiovisual materials, where students use to practice more passive skills, mainly listening comprehension. Apart from passive skills, revoicing and captioning tasks put into play more productive ones, namely writing and speaking. In sum, this platform allows students to make different sorts of exercises to practice the four basic language skills as well as to focus on specific grammar and cultural issues.
Apart from presenting the platform and showing a couple of activities designed for Chinese language learners as an example, we will also analyze the first results obtained from the piloting stage of the project. These data prove that students find this tool very useful not just in terms of actual learning results but also in terms of motivation.
