Reaction Paper on Planning and Decision Making
Decision making is vital to us and to the people around us. There are lots
of things to consider in order to come up to a sound decision making.
Our decisions reflect what values we hold on to. In a corporate world for
example, if there is a conflict between a customer with his employee, a
businessman’s value for his subordinates will be given more importance for the
reason that customers will just come and go but people who work under him is
hard to find. It is the same also with educational setup, the teacher’s decision
and even the higher authorities’ (in school) decision depends on what values we
adhere to and according to the priorities set. It would be nice to think that we all
have the ‘right stuff’ or something to make a difference in the workplace or in
any place. Our thoughts and plans is like a spectrum of influence. For instance,
money managers are learning the hard way that their bread is buttered by
corporate managers with vision, steadiness, talent, and guts - in short, with what
used to be called "the right stuff". That means character, wedded to a precise
talent, a talent for figuring out the right thing to do and for doing it the right way
and at the right time.
Meanwhile, steps in making a decision varies from one person to another
or from one organization to the other. There are lots of approaches and strategies
2. that may lead to a final decision. Steps are just part of the process and a means
to solve a problem or to reach an objective. The ability to make decisions in a
systematic way by following a model, and being aware of the stakeholders in
every scenario is part of the process.
Finally, experiences will lead us better on what ways are we going to
employ to have a good end result. Experiences enhances our skills in making a
wise decision.

Reaction Paper on Quest for Power: the Cause of Political Struggles
Power tends to be associated with competition at best, coercion or
domination at worst. Given that the ways we think and talk about a subject
influence the ways we act in relation to that subject.
A leader should use power as a tool to unite people for a common goal and
not to use it in a form of abuse or threatening others. This power as domination
paradigm traces back, either implicitly or explicitly, through the writings of
diverse social and political theorists, from Machiavelli (1961) to Weber (1986) to
Bourdieu (1994).
Power is more of a responsibility rather than a means to dominate others.
However, without power, which is used interchangeably with influence or
authority, no man can lead people and make them follow. A good name, a good
influence and establishing a good social relationship enable the leader to have
stability of power so that political struggles can be evaded. Whoever is worthy of
the position leads to a well-founded political system.
Good leaders should possess and understand the dynamics of using power
such as commitment, compliance (the willingness of the subordinates to carry
out the leader’s wishes as long as doing it will not require extraordinary effort
4. and resistance (occurs when the subordinate rejects or fights the leader’s
wishers).
Power have played a significant role in human history and that will need
to play an even more significant role if we are to learn how to live together
peacefully in an increasingly interdependent world.
