In December 2015, Ukraine initiated significant decentralization reforms, including the establishment of a parliamentary office for local self-government and the allocation of nearly 100 million euros by the European Commission to support local governance. Key laws were signed to enhance state registration responsibilities and streamline administrative processes, aiming to improve service delivery and increase local self-government accountability. A new law was also enacted to extend the competencies of local authorities and optimize administrative services, with a focus on transparency and socio-economic development evaluations across regions.
