Does your family ever quarrel? Why do fights and arguments erupt, even among Christians? Based on James 3:13-18 how might “earthly wisdom” provoke fights and quarrels? How do you think “wisdom from heaven” helps us resolve conflicts we face? What does James say is the source of quarrels (4:1–2)? James says we don't receive even when we ask because we ask with wrong motives (3). What are examples of right and wrong motives in prayer? What else does James say is necessary in order to come to God in prayer (4–10)? What does it mean to be humble, to submit to God (6–7)? James gives several suggestions (7–10) for humbling our-selves before God. How does each contribute to a humble spirit? Are there situations where humility could help you become a source of peace this coming week?

Recently, I heard some radio programs mentioning the challenge of kindness, or how to make spouses happy unilaterally, or how to promote family harmony in remarried families. These were originally based on goodwill as a start, but they all have one common thing. It is to lift a certain person or a certain group of people aloft and take their happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy as the highest goal. On the surface, it seems achievable, but if you look at it from the perspective of the Bible, this is almost impossible to reach. Because this world is not controlled by man, but God is the boss. So if man’s effort does not conform to God’s will, it will become a waste of energy.
Few things are as fundamental to the abundant life Jesus came to give us than our continual commitment to being grateful in all circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 1:18 and Eph. 5:20 make it abundantly clear that God requires us to always gives thanks to Him no matter what happens because He has promised to make all things work together for good for us ( Rom. 8:28)!
Life outside of gratitude is a lie. Life outside of gratitude is poison to our soul. God will help us, but we must choose to give Him thanks as Job did in his great losses. We must allow God to be somewhat mysterious and trust Him no matter what evil befalls us. That is real faith.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson examines unthankfulness. We have a tendency to take God's blessings for granted or to recognize God's hand at work in difficult circumstances.
Living a life of character is a natural response to faith. According to James 1: 17-27, we need to know who we are in Christ, then we naturally live lives that are based on the Lord. Living it purposefully, daily, until it becomes a habit. Doing what is right...
Scriptural examples of falling from grace
Looking at the classic "proof" text for the "once in grace always in grace" crowd: 1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
The Scriptures clearly tell us that the time will come when some Christians in the body of Christ will not endure sound doctrine. All of us ought to separate the precious from the vile, the truth from the error and sound doctrine from fables. We cannot delegate this responsibility to anybody else. To this end we have been freely given the written word of God that by the grace of God through faith in his name we might be lead into all truth through the Holy Spirit.
I hope this series of meditations will help the word of God renew your mind and that you will be ready for the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are 50 slides. If you go quickly through the slide deck, you can get through it in about an hour. But if you take your time it can take up to two hours.
Wherever you are, wherever you go, you are miserable unless you turn to God. So why be dismayed when things do not happen as you wish and desire?
Misery here implies the suffering of the soul due to separation from God and the unending cycle of birth, death and rebirth in 8.4 million species.
Living on earth is truly a misery. The more a man desires spiritual life, the more bitter the present becomes to him, because he understands better and sees more clearly the defects, the corruption of human nature.
How foolish and faithless of heart are those who are so engrossed in earthly things as to relish nothing but what is carnal!
Do not lose heart, then, my brother, in pursuing your spiritual life. There is yet time, and your hour is not past. Why delay your purpose? Arise! Begin at once and say…
Repentance is our awakening to come to our senses and live the way God had always intended for us. It is more than a decision. It is God allowing us to see a new world view (in light of the cross) which always results in the fruit of a turned, changed life.

In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Lesson 9 - Resisting Temptation Along the Way.pptx
Dealing With Personal Failures
1.
2.
3. The Initial Process –Psalms 32 & 51
• Acknowledge – Don’t Deny, Excuse Or Rationalize
• Confess – Your Sin / Your Responsibility to God & Man
• Turn Around – Correct Your Path / Actions / Attitude
• Supplication – Pray The Consequences Are Minimal
• Acceptance - Of What Comes From God’s Hand
4. Restitution – Fixing The
Mistake
• If you can fix the mistake, then do so.
• Pay back debts
• Ask forgiveness
• Pay for broken items
• Sell the car that you cannot afford
• Do not believe the “sunk cost fallacy”
• Apologize publicly for public mistakes
• Have honorable responses
• Isaiah 32:8 But the noble man devises noble plans; And
by noble plans he stands.
5. The Provision
• The provision for ALL of your mistakes is
in the Cross – the Blood cleanses us.
• Christ pays the price
• Christ makes up for what you CANNOT
restore / bring back / correct / fix / make
good
• Christ has things in Eternity that
compensate for things on earth (Luke
16, the beggar full of sores)
• This world is a sandbox that one day
gets erased. Your mistake does NOT last
for all of eternity.
6. What God Can Do For You
• Restoration – Prodigal Son
• Forgiveness – Thief On The Cross
• Redeemed Out of Spiritual Darkness – Ephesians
• Redeemed Out of Sinful Lifestyles - Corinthians
• Still Believes in You – Peter After the Resurrection
• Calling and Appointing – Saul / Paul
• Giving You A Second Chance – Onesimus
• Put Back On Track – John-Mark
7. The Perspective
• You are not defined forever by your mistakes
unless you fail to acknowledge them & repent
• You are not a victim of your stupidity, be
honest, you actually made the mistake.
• You are human and life is difficult to get right
• You were younger then and you have learned
• God has forgiven you, if you have truly
repented
• You are not the Judge (even of yourself)
• You can change and improve, even now
• The way others reacted to your failure is their
business!
8. Coping With Regret
• Leave the burden of regret with God, at the Cross
• Weep, mourn, be sad for a while, then get over it.
• Make restitution if at all possible
• Talk it over with a pastor or professional counselor in total
confidentiality. It may take time.
• Learn all you can from your mistakes
• Keep quiet and move on
9. Use Biblical Metaphors
• Create a strong mental picture of your sins and mistakes
being dealt with by God and being:
• Nailed to the Cross (Colossians 2:13)
• Erased from a ledger like a forgiven debt (Matthew 6:12)
• Washed away (Psalm 51:2)
• Taken away, removed (Psalm 103:12, John 1:29, 1 John 3:5)
• Put in the deepest ocean (Micah 7:18,19)
• Put behind God’s back (Isaiah 38:17)
• Covered (Psalm 85:2)
• Purged by a hot coal (Isaiah 6:7)
10. Codependency
• When your mistake was enabling someone else’s
mistakes to the extent that your own life was hurt.
• Codependent relationships are a type of
dysfunctional helping relationship where one
person supports or enables another person's
addiction, poor mental health, immaturity,
irresponsibility, or under-achievement.
• You need to a) stop “sacrificing”
b) set up healthy boundaries and
c) get help.
11. The Holy Spirit & The Word
• Be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20)
• Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-18)
• Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in you
(Colossians 3:16)
12. Redeeming the Time
1. Good Choices
2. Good Boundaries
3. Good Habits
4. Good Words
5. Good Attitudes
