Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson outlines seven general directions for dealing with sin. While specific sins will be addressed in future lessons, these general directions apply to dealing with any and all sin in our lives.
Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson discusses the end results of anger. Bitterness, resentment, enmity, hostility, and grudges are all addressed.
The document discusses what it means to be called a saint. It explains that every believer, no matter how immature, is called a saint because they have been separated and set apart by God through salvation in Jesus Christ. While saints positionally, believers still struggle with sin in their daily lives. The disconnect between what God has promised and what believers experience shows that sanctification is a process that will only be completed in heaven. As saints, believers have a responsibility to live according to their calling by avoiding conduct unbecoming of saints and properly identifying sin in their own lives rather than just in others.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson addresses the sins of anxiety (fear), worry, and frustration (anger). God cares about us and wants us to cast all our fears on Him because of His care for us. Dealing with these sins in a biblical fashion is the focus of the lesson.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson describes how vile, ugly, and destructive sin truly is. In order to truly apply the remedy for sin, we have to see it for what it is. Sin is rebellion against the Law of God, but it is also despising the Person of God.
Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson looks at the remedy for sin, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christians tend to forget that the Gospel is for sinners and that they still qualify as such. This lessons talks about how to deal with sin in your life and how to preach the Gospel to yourself each morning.
This document discusses the concept of ungodliness, which refers to living one's life with little thought of God, God's will, or dependence on God. While we may avoid obvious sins, we can still be ungodly if we seldom consider how God wants us to live. The document encourages developing intimacy with God, doing all activities to glorify Him, and recognizing that we depend on Him for everything. It urges readers to honestly assess how godly or ungodly they are in their daily lives.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson examines unthankfulness. We have a tendency to take God's blessings for granted or to recognize God's hand at work in difficult circumstances.
This document outlines the training and techniques required for effective soul-winning and evangelism. It discusses the spiritual, biblical, and practical training a soul-winner needs, including developing motivation from a concern for souls. It also describes different approaches to taking including gentle, conversational, and literature approaches. The soul-winner should analyze the spiritual state of the person and determine if they are superficial, skeptical, or serious about their sin. The appeal should aim to win the mind, heart, and will by satisfying the mind with the need for salvation, stirring the heart that salvation is possible, and strengthening the will to be saved. The key is sharing the gospel through the Holy Spirit and trusting God with the results.

This document discusses the importance of forgiveness. It begins by summarizing the Lord's Prayer from Matthew 6:9-15, noting that Jesus teaches His followers to ask God for forgiveness as they forgive others. Several examples are then given from the Bible of family drama, such as Cain killing Abel and Joseph's brothers selling him into slavery, and how forgiveness played a key role in resolving these issues. Specific cases of God commanding Cain, Joseph forgiving his brothers, and Moses pleading for Miriam are described. The document stresses that forgiveness is a process that allows for emotional and spiritual healing between people. While reconciliation with the offender is ideal, forgiveness is still important even if full reconciliation cannot be achieved. Forgiveness is presented as one
The document discusses how the concept of sin has disappeared from modern culture and many churches. It has been replaced with softer language that downplays offenses. This has led many Christians to only condemn obvious sins outside the church while ignoring sins in their own lives like pride, gossip, and envy. However, the Bible says that all sins are transgressions of God's law. While some sins seem small, they still violate God's perfect standard and make us guilty. The only solution is to accept Jesus' payment for sins through his death on the cross.
Forgiveness is one of the most important concepts for Christians, as it distinguishes them from other faiths and offers the path to redemption and salvation through divine forgiveness. The document discusses how forgiveness is emphasized throughout Jesus' teachings, especially in the Lord's Prayer. It states that in order to receive forgiveness from God, Christians must forgive others for their sins. This is illustrated in the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant, as failure to forgive others is seen as unforgivable to God. Christians are called to follow Jesus' example of forgiveness towards his tormentors and to be a shining example of forgiveness to others.
This document discusses the sin of judgmentalism, where people elevate their own opinions to the level of biblical truth and judge others harshly. Judgmentalism is subtle because it can be disguised as zeal for righteousness. The document cautions against judging others based on superficial factors like dress. While clear biblical sins can be identified, we must avoid an attitude of self-righteousness and point others to repentance rather than condemnation. We are warned against demonizing those with differing beliefs, though doctrines like justification by faith alone are non-negotiable.
This document discusses the power of forgiveness from a Christian perspective. It defines forgiveness as granting pardon without resentment. It explains that Christians must receive God's forgiveness for sins and forgive others to be forgiven. Jesus' death provided a way for sins to be forgiven. The document emphasizes that Christians must forgive others as instructed by Jesus in order to receive forgiveness from God. It provides examples from the Bible of Jesus and Stephen practicing extreme forgiveness even while being killed to encourage Christians to adopt an attitude of forgiveness.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson focuses on the sins of selfishness, specifically with regards to our interests, our time, our money, and being inconsiderate of others.
The document defines and discusses the concept of sin from biblical and theological perspectives. It covers:
- Sin defined as an offense against God through disobedience, rejection of love, and harmful actions.
- Sin discussed in the Old and New Testaments as breaking relationship with God and others through pride, sensuality, lack of belief, and lawlessness.
- Sin proliferates and can be mortal (separating one from God) or venial (diminishing divine life). Conversion and reconciliation require admitting sin and cultivating love.
Our personality affects our relationships with others and with God. Discovering our own personality is not easy and is a lifelong journey. It involves looking inward at our strengths and weaknesses from our experiences, and seeing ourselves as others see us. It is through activities like recollection that allow us to reflect and reconnect with God, helping us to better understand our personality. Our actions provide insights into who we are.
This document outlines 7 requirements for effective soul-winning:
1. A soul winner must be saved and holy, avoiding gossip, cursing, lying, and deceitful speech and apparel.
2. They must pray fervently and study Scripture in-depth.
3. In addition to being knowledgeable, patient, and obedient, a soul winner should not feel ashamed to share the gospel whenever possible.
Mercy - Jesus taught his disciples how they are to live as Christians. He said that if they wanted to follow him they are to exercise mercy rather than revenge. They were to exercise grace, humility, mercy, forgiveness and generosity.
1. The document provides guidance on making a good confession, including examining one's conscience, expressing contrition, confessing sins to a priest, and receiving absolution and penance.
2. It emphasizes recognizing sin, the difference between mortal and venial sins, and resolving to amend one's life.
3. The stages of confession - before, during, and after - are outlined step-by-step.
The document provides an overview of seeking and knowing God's will. It discusses the different types of God's will, including his fulfilled will through Jesus, revealed will found in scripture, and specific will for individual lives. Fulfilling God's revealed will means placing Christ first, loving God, being thankful, making disciples, and living holy lives. Parents have a responsibility to bring up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Living together as a Christ-centered family allows parents to instruct children according to scripture so they can shine as lights in the world.
The document is a lesson plan on forgiveness from Central Union Church of Christ in Killeen, Texas. It discusses what forgiveness means, the importance of forgiveness in Christianity, and how to practice forgiveness. The key points made are:
1) Forgiveness means releasing others from guilt and letting go of resentment rather than forgetting or changing emotions.
2) Christians are commanded to forgive others as God forgives them. Not forgiving others damages one's relationship with God.
3) Forgiveness is an act of the will, not tied to emotions. It involves deciding to "send away" offenses each time they are remembered.
4) Refusing to forgive only hurts oneself, while forgiveness promotes healing and
Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. In contrast, a hired hand will flee when the sheep are threatened by a wolf. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus knows and cares for his sheep intimately. He promises to bring other sheep into his flock from other folds, like the Gentiles. His death and resurrection demonstrate his commitment to the sheep. The passage leads to another division among the Jews about Jesus' identity and message.
The document discusses Mary as a model for Christians. It describes how Mary lived in intimate communion with God through prayer, both privately and communally. She welcomed God and was committed to serving others, as shown through her works and participation in the early Christian community. The document advocates emulating Mary by living in prayer and solidarity with the poor, welcoming Christ in those who suffer, and sharing one's faith through active service without privatizing it. Mary gives herself to God and to serving others, and calls Christians to do the same through overcoming selfishness.
1. Temptation comes in many forms such as wanting to be something we're not or do something we shouldn't.
2. Jesus was tempted to show that temptation is something everyone faces. How we respond to temptation can make us stronger or cause us to fall away.
3. When tempted, we can pray for strength and find a way out through God's faithfulness. Looking to Jesus will help us endure and receive the promise of eternal life.
In this lesson based on "Daniel: Standing Firm for God" by Gene Getz, we examine Daniel 2 and Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the giant statue. Daniel's response to the king's threat is prayer, and he gives God all the credit and glory for the answer to the king's dream.
Worldliness refers to being overly focused on or attached to things of this temporal world rather than spiritual things. It can manifest in an excessive focus on money, acceptance of societal immorality, or idolizing of things like careers, politics, sports, or anything that takes precedence over God. To avoid worldliness, Christians should give at least 10% of their income to God, avoid vicarious immorality, dress modestly, and ensure nothing becomes more important than their relationship with God.

The document discusses biblical principles of bearing one another's burdens, not comparing oneself to others, and sharing blessings. It encourages Christians to minister to others in their weaknesses with gentleness and humility rather than pride or condemnation. Believers are instructed to generously share material and spiritual blessings, knowing that they will reap what they sow through ongoing investment in God's kingdom work. The overarching theme is that Christians should display the fruit of the Spirit in their relations with one another.
Joshua gives his last instructions to the nation of Israel. They must choose who they will serve, God or the false gods of the nations they have conquered.
The document summarizes several examples from the Bible that are supported by modern scientific discoveries:
1) Passages from Psalms and Ecclesiastes describing ocean currents and wind patterns were validated by Matthew Maury in the 1800s when he mapped these currents, cutting down shipping times.
2) Acts advises against eating blood, supported by research finding blood is toxic.
3) The story of Jonah being swallowed by a whale is plausible given sperm whales' ability to ingest large objects through their throat and stomach.
Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson focuses on impatience and irritability. Impatience is a symptom of selfishness. Irritability is a symptom of both selfishness and anger.
This is an old lesson that was requested by a member of my youth group. It is a list of the names of God in the Old Testament, where they are found, and what they mean.
Paul closes out the book of Galatians by pointing out the motives of the legalists and contrasting his own. Paul points them over and over again to Jesus and the grace God has shown to sinful men and women.
1) Paul uses 6 arguments in Galatians 3-4 to prove that salvation is by grace alone, not works. The personal argument references their experience receiving the Holy Spirit when first believing.
2) Paul questions why they would abandon the Spirit if they began in the Spirit. He references scripture like Genesis 15:6 to show Abraham was justified by faith, not works.
3) Paul argues salvation is for Gentiles too, based on God's promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:3. He cites Habakkuk 2:4 to prove salvation is by faith, not works as outlined in the Law.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson tackles the subject of being discontent with our circumstances. Specifically, this lesson addresses issues of physical disability and how to glorify God no matter your physical situation.
Based on "Why I believe" by D. James Kennedy, this lesson examines the promises God makes to His children. The most important point is that these promises only apply to those who have trusted Christ as Savior. If you have not done this and need more information, please contact me.
This document discusses why people make foolish moral decisions and offers advice. It notes that people often think their situations are unique and they can handle moral temptations, but outcomes are predictable and regret usually follows a series of unwise choices. It advises fleeing temptation instead of flirting with moral lines, as sins like adultery have extreme consequences. Wise people establish conservative boundaries and make relationship decisions before facing compromising situations to avoid future regret.
God uses regular, ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Using 1 Corinthians 1:21-28 as a springboard, we look at a few of the people in the Bible God used to do amazing things.
The document discusses Paul's letters to the Galatians about the relationship between God's promise to Abraham and the Mosaic law. It makes four key points:
1) God's promise of salvation by faith preceded the giving of the law by centuries and could not be changed by the law.
2) The law was meant to reveal humanity's sinfulness and need for salvation but was never intended to provide life or justification.
3) Rather than contradicting God's promise, the law acted as a temporary guardian or tutor to guide people until Christ.
4) Only through faith in Christ, not obedience to the law, can people be made heirs of God's promise and freed from sin's power
The document discusses acknowledging and dealing with subtle sins in our lives as Christians. It emphasizes the need to be honest about our sins so we can experience forgiveness and Christ's love. It provides a review of sins covered in the study, such as pride, selfishness, gossip, and encourages asking others for evaluation of these sins in our lives to gain awareness of areas we are in denial about. The goal is to humbly acknowledge and put our sins to death so we can display Christ-like character to others.
The document discusses what it means to know God. Knowing God is having an interactive covenant relationship with Him that involves the heart, mind, soul and body. It requires action, not just teaching. To grow in knowing God better involves focusing on feelings, truth, and actions - specifically developing a more honest prayer life; studying theology, the Bible, and critical thinking; and finding a biblical need to serve through actions. The overall message is that knowing God changes who we are and involves growing in our relationship with Him through our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and deeds.
The document discusses spiritual disciplines and their purpose of cultivating spiritual growth and a healthy relationship with God. It describes spiritual disciplines as practices that create time and space for life transformation by deepening our relationship with God. Christians throughout history have engaged in spiritual disciplines because they are modeled and taught by Jesus in the Bible. The document provides an overview of six Groundwork episodes that will explore specific spiritual disciplines in Scripture such as prayer, fasting, simplicity, silence, service, and Scripture study. It encourages engaging with the episodes to learn about applying these disciplines to one's spiritual life.
Summer Splash Developing a devotional life part 1 of 2Albert Soto
This document provides an overview and summaries of a 2013 summer series on developing a devotional life. It includes:
- An introduction and schedule for the summer series focusing on having a devotional life, reading the Bible, and living in community.
- Summaries of three talks from the series addressing fuel for the devotional journey, foundations for reading the Bible, and friends for the journey of living in community.
- Additional summaries of methods for daily devotion, why to read the Bible, and an example of using the S.O.A.P. Bible study method in a journal entry. The document offers guidance and perspectives on spiritual growth through regular Bible reading and prayer.
The document discusses ways to strengthen faith through repentance. It defines repentance as recognizing sin, having remorse for sin, resolving to change, reforming behavior, and making restitution. Real repentance requires faith that Jesus can change, forgive, and help avoid mistakes. Strengthening faith involves regularly reading and applying the Bible to deepen one's relationship with God, as fellowship with Christ increases through strengthened faith. The document provides seven ways to strengthen faith, such as reading the Bible, praying, fasting, and uniting with other believers.
The document provides guidance on the Catholic practice of confession. It explains that confession is the means of receiving absolution for sins and helps believers avoid sin and grow in virtue. It advises that Catholics should go to confession at least once a year, and more regularly if desired, and whenever one is aware of having committed a serious sin. The document offers tips for properly examining one's conscience, preparing for confession, what to confess, and how to participate in the sacrament, including making an act of contrition and receiving the priest's absolution.
Most of us have experienced rejection, shame, and blame while growing up. Cory experienced more of these things than anyone I’ve ever known.
Because Cory didn’t grow up with joy being a part of his life, he found that the interactive gratitude exercise from Jim Wilder, Anna Kang, John Loppnow, and Sungshim Loppnow’s book, Joyful Journey, was helpful in processing his internal dialogue of negative thoughts so he could experience joy from God through “Immanuel Journaling.”
Cory noted that his Immanuel Journaling has been enhanced by the “seven soul care principles” from Dr. Rob Reimer’s book, Soul Care: 7 Transformational Principles for a Healthy Soul.
He participates in the weekly soul care men’s group that I co-lead.
We cultivate these seven principles: identity, repentance, overcoming family sin patterns, forgiveness, healing wounds, overcoming fears, and deliverance.
See the profile of Cory, application of the seven soul care principles, and Immanuel Journaling in the attached “Year-End Sync Newsletter.”
Learn how to engage in dialogue with God in attached, “Immanuel Journaling Lesson.”
The document outlines an upcoming talk on spiritual stages. It will define key terms, discuss various frameworks for understanding spiritual growth proposed by authors and religious figures, and describe the speaker's own research into common patterns of spiritual development. The goals are to help participants understand their own stage of spiritual growth, identify next steps, and avoid potential pitfalls along the journey. Descriptors of religion, inner life, and relationships will be used to characterize each stage.
1) Lent lasts the six weeks between Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday, focusing on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to imitate Jesus overcoming temptation.
2) The document provides an overview of the Lenten liturgical calendar and scripture readings for this year's Cycle B, focusing on the Gospels of Mark.
3) It encourages self-examination to identify what we can continue or improve upon to express love of God and others during Lent.
Study on Romans 12:1-2:
The Daily Surrender of a
Disciple/Follower of Christ
SUMMARY: The entire first 11 chapters of Romans are applied starting with these verses.
I CAN DECIDE TO LET GO: v.1 “present” is in the aorist tense and means a final action, we go back to and remember.
I MUST DIE DAILY: v. 1 “living sacrifice” this is a present active verb. This means I renew this once and for all decision, all day long, as I go through life. Tied to the altar daily.
MY LIFE MATTERS TO GOD: v. 1 “holy and acceptable” explains what flavor God wants in our lives: “holy” and the goal of life is driven by loving Him so much we want to please Him “acceptable to God”.
MY FIRST CHOICE: v. 2 “do not be conformed” this is the first imperative application in this section of Romans that applies truth to the lives of believers. This word means: God doesn’t want our lives shaped by His enemy (the world).
MY LIFELONG GREAT TASK: v. 2 “be transformed” this is the great word morphed. God explains that all transformation starts with a renewed mind (anakaino). The tense is present (constantly/ongoing) and passive (God does it to us) ana = back again; kaino = new; God resets our minds back to His Way by applying His Word to my life by His Spirit
GOD CONFIRMS HIS POWER IN ME: v. 2 “prove” this word dokimadzo means ‘proof after testing’. We will find the proof of God at work in us as we test out the “reset” button for our minds. Allow Him to renew us, and when He does, He proves Himself to us.

This document discusses the importance of men regularly conducting personal inventories or self-evaluations. It recommends that men take time to look back on their lives, identify areas where they have failed or made wrong choices, and confess and repent of their sins. Conducting honest personal inventories through humility and with God's help can lead to deeper fellowship with Christ and spiritual revival. The document provides tips for effective personal inventories, including identifying gains and losses, how to resolve issues, and rejoicing in successes. Regular self-evaluation is important for spiritual growth and improvement.
1) Gratitude is a habit of looking at the world with appreciation for all good things, regardless of one's situation. It attracts more things to be grateful for into one's life.
2) While it's easy to take for granted daily gifts like air, health, and relationships, there is always something to be thankful for. Gratitude draws us closer to God by focusing on Him and others rather than ourselves.
3) Practicing gratitude through prayer and thankfulness for all things, including difficulties, can help us appreciate good times more and develop endurance and trust in God.
Christian Spirituality and Recovery from Addiction - January 2014Dawn Farm
“Recovery From Addiction and Christian Spirituality” was presented on Tuesday January 21, 2014; by Brother Edward Conlin, BSEd, CADC; Addiction Counselor, Detroit Capuchin Service System. Spirituality often plays an important role in recovery initiation, recovery maintenance, and quality of life in recovery from chemical dependency. This program will describe a Christian perspective of how spirituality relates to recovery from chemical dependency, explore personal spiritual needs and life choices, and discuss the Twelve Steps as a spiritual program. This program is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series, a FREE, annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency, recovery, family and related issues. The Education Series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a continuum of chemical dependency services. For information, please see http://www.dawnfarm.org/programs/education-series.
Second chance church, sermon slides, feb 17, 2013Mark Doebler
In this second part of the UNstuck series, Pastor Mark talks about 4 key areas where families get stuck.
1. Boredom
2. Thinking there's something better
3. Resentment
4. Unforgiveness
Scripture is then applied to these challenging areas to help us get unstuck in our families so that we can create the family environment God desires for us.
The document outlines the 12 steps of a program for recovery from sexual addiction. It discusses how the program works, including admitting powerlessness, making amends, and seeking God's will through prayer and meditation. It promises that following the steps will result in freedom, happiness, and an ability to help others through living according to spiritual principles rather than perfection.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson examines the sin of pride; specifically, pride of moral self-righteousness, doctrinal pride, pride of achievement, and an independent spirit. The fact that God is the source of all our success, that we need to be humble in our doctrine and opinions, and that we need to maintain a teachable spirit are all emphasized.
BC&D-1: What is the definition of Biblical Counseling John Barnett
What is the definition of Biblical Counseling (Romans 15:4-6, 13-14)?
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• “teaching” (didasko) part of our great commission task to be “teaching” all true disciples of Christ (Mt. 28:20).
• “patience” (hupomeno) this word means “stays in place, abides”; God is described as being faithful and unchangingly staying in place. This also describes the Word (I Pet. 1:23) and in I Cor. 13:13 ‘faith, hope, and love’. This is also the great word of Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 40:31.
• “comfort” (paraklesis): means comfort that comes through God's Word that is based upon the faithful God we can and do trust. God is the God of patience and comfort, and He alone through His Word can comfort the downcast (II Cor. 7:6).
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
• “The God of hope” is the source of hope we offer as Disciple-making/Counselors (v. 13a);
• His Holy Spirit energizes this hope by “the power of the Holy Spirit” (v. 13b);
• All Counseling/Disciple-makers need to be “full” of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22);
• Only by the Spirit are we “able” (v. 14a) this word (dunamai) means power or ability, it is passive, so that means ‘made able by another’, or ‘enabled’;
• All believers have been left with the job description (I Th. 5:14) to be Biblical Counselors “admonish one another” (noutheteo). This word means ‘impart understanding’, ‘set right’, or ‘lay upon the heart’. Paul said this is what his ministry was 24/7 (Acts 20:31).
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
Exactly how are we be led by the Holy Spirit?
Exactly how does the Holy Spirit communicate to all of us in this life?
If the Bible calls the Holy Spirit our Guide and Teacher in this life, then this means He will attempt to communicate to all of us from time to time.
Otherwise we will never be able to pick up from Him exactly what He is trying to teach us or tell us to do.
The very first thing we need to know if we want to learn how to be led by the Holy Spirit is that
We can develop a direct personal relationship with Him
Just like you already have with God and Jesus.
Here are two key verses from the apostle Paul telling us that we are allowed to have direct communication and direct fellowship with the Holy Spirit Himself:
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14)
“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit …” (Phillippians 2:1)
This document provides an overview of a session on the Sacraments. It discusses the seven sacraments, with a focus on Baptism. It underscores the call to live a "sacramental life" through outward signs, following Jesus' teachings of love, and being instruments of God's grace. The session aims to overview the seven sacraments and underscore the call to a sacramental life.
Emotions operate on many levels, physical and mental, and they bridge thought, feeling, and action ; they affect many aspects of a person our lives. Emotions round us out, as we are more than our thoughts, perception, reason, or memories. Understanding and identifying emotions so we can express them effectively is key to a healthy life.
Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

The pervasiveness of Lying in today's World.pptxniwres
In our interconnected world, lies weave through the fabric of society like hidden threads. We encounter them in politics, media, personal relationships, and even within ourselves. The prevalence of deception raises profound questions about truth, trust, and the human condition.
Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1

Renewed in Grace
2. 1. Always address your sin in the context of the
Gospel.
• We tend to forget that God has already forgiven our sins because of what
Jesus did on the cross as soon as we begin working on an area of sin.
• Colossians 2:13-14
• God has also credited to us the perfect righteousness of Christ.
• In every area of life where we are disobedient, Jesus was perfectly obedient.
• Romans 3:21-22
• Philippians 3:9
3. 2. We must learn to rely on the enabling power
of the Holy Spirit.
• Remember, it is by the Spirit we put to death the sin in our lives.
• Romans 8:13
• We tend to forget this and resort to our own willpower (which never works).
• No matter how much we grow, we never get beyond our constant need of
the enabling power of the Holy Spirit.
• We must be continually dependent on the Holy Spirit.
4. 3. While depending on the Holy Spirit, we must also
recognize our responsibility to diligently pursue all practical
steps for dealing with our sin.
• This dovetails with #2. We are both dependent and responsible.
• Our tendency is to emphasize one over the other.
• “Work as if it all depends on you, and yet trust as if you did not work at all.”
5. 4. We must identify specific areas of acceptable
sin.
• This DOES NOT mean to determine which sins are acceptable to continue.
NO sin is acceptable to God.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see if there is a pattern of that particular sin
in your life.
• This requires a humble attitude and a willingness to face that sin.
• You also need to give thought to what situations trigger it. Anticipating
circumstances or events that stimulate the sin can help in putting it to death.
6. 5. We should be able to bring specific, applicable
Scriptures to bear to each of our subtle sins.
• These Scriptures should be memorized, reflected on, and prayed over as we ask
God to use them to enable us to deal with those sins.
• Psalm 119:11
• “Hid” means to lay aside for future use.
• Memorizing Scripture is not a “magic bullet.” They must be applied to our lives.
• If we memorize and pray over Scriptures that address our subtle (or not-so-subtle)
sins, the Holy Spirit will bring them to mind in particular situations to remind us of
the will of God, to warn us, and to guide us in our responses to temptation.
7. 6. We should cultivate the practice of prayer
over the sins we tolerate.
• This is assumed in #2 and #5, but it is important to realize that prayer is one of our
major directions for dealing with sin.
• It is through prayer we consciously acknowledge our need for the Holy Spirit.
• It is through prayer we continually acknowledge the persistent patterns of our lives.
• We should pray over our sins in a planned, consistent manner.
• We should also pray short, spontaneous prayers for the help of the Holy Spirit each
time we encounter situations that might trigger one of our sins.
8. 7. We should involve one or more other believers
with us in our struggle against our subtle sins.
• This should be a mutual relationship as week seek to exhort, encourage, and
pray for one another.
• Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
• We need to be accountable to someone else so they can pray for us and
encourage us if we want to make progress in dealing with sin.
9. Your heart is a battleground between the flesh
and the Spirit.
• Apply the Gospel.
• Depend on the Holy Spirit.
• Recognize your responsibility.
• Identify specific respectable sins.
• Memorize and apply appropriate Scripture.
• Cultivate the Practice of prayer.
• Involve one or a few other believers with you.
• We will look at specific sins, but these seven general directions always apply.
