This document discusses partnerships between telecommunications companies and over-the-top (OTT) providers to increase access to affordable internet. It notes that while internet and smartphone usage is growing, connectivity remains low in developing areas due to high costs and infrastructure gaps. Programs like Facebook's Internet.org aim to address this by offering limited free basic internet services through partnerships between OTTs and telcos. However, questions remain around which apps and services should be included to avoid further dividing the digital haves and have-nots, who will own the customer relationship, and regulatory barriers to proposed technologies like internet drones and balloons.

Innovation in the field of ICT products and services is significantly changing human communication behaviour and drives data usage on both fixed and mobile networks.
Whitepaper: Over-The-Top (OTT) Services: How Operators can overcome the Fragm...tyntec
The result of extensive interviews and research by analyst firm mobileSQUARED and sponsored by mobile interaction specialist tyntec, this whitepaper features new figures and forecasts drawing upon data from 68 countries. It forecasts that OTT communications will generate termination and interconnect fee-based revenues for mobile operators of US$ 3.7 billion in 2012 rising to US$ 8.4 billion in 2016. The implications of this figure are clear: there is a big opportunity for forward-thinking operators to generate revenue through OTT. This whitepaper outlines the variety of operator OTT strategies deployed so far and uses the data to illustrate what will work best in the future.
Check out our in-depth country specific research on consumer preferences towards OTT services across local markets covering 9 countries - from Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Dr TR Madan Mohan, Managing partner addressed Network of ICT Entrepreneurs and Enterprises (NITEE), under the aegis of Foundation for MSME Clusters (www.msmefoundation.org), New Delhi on 27th August 2010 regarding “Value added service (VAS) provider failures: insights from VAS product companies”.
OTT services embraces a wide range of activity, including offering web-based services direct to consumers and offering IP-based video delivery to tablets and smartphones as part of a wider pay TV or broadband subscription.
A look at the disruption in the Telecommunications industry by multiple startups. Covering the conditions that created the opportunity for new entrants, their common traits, and the take aways for entrepreneurs.
Telecom operators often frame their battle "against OTT players". This is flawed - telecom operators themselves can offer OTT services, for content or communications or cloud services. The presentation characterises the evolution of telco-OTT services, as well as some of the obstacles and required skillsets. It also examines tehe emergence of WebRTC as a key enabler

Mobile Telecoms Tech & Market Disruptions - April 2015 VersionDean Bubley
The next 5 years will bring huge changes to the mobile network industry. Network operators will see revenue and usage from voice telephony & SMS decline, while new communications apps will mostly be driven by context & design, not 3GPP standards.
4G networks will continue to be deployed, with 5G coming into view - but data traffic may not grow to the degree expected. WiFi is growing in important - but will only have limited integration with cellular. Net Neutrality concerns will continue to rumble - but most of the new "ideas" like paid priority or sponsored data will fail.
We will also see "multi-stakeholder" issues coming to the fore, where regulators will need to ensure the telecom industry encompasses the needs of users, venues, app developers, IoT companies, brands & Internet players. That said, attempts by Apple and Google to enter the cellular space with SIMs and MVNOs will remain niche
The indigenous Telecoms, Internet, Media & Edutainment (TIME) sector
has grown its international footprint over the last six years. The continued adoption of high-speed internet (fixed and mobile) as a direct channel opens up a significant revenue opportunity.
India telecom revenues is primarily driven by voice which constitutes to 90% of total revenues leaving only a smaller portion for data. Aegis LeadCap Research & Consulting predicts that in next 5 years share of revenue from voice will reduce down to 60% from its current state of 90%. 40% revenue from data also includes the revenue from BWA service providers like Reliance Infotel, Tikona etc. Most prominent value add services which drives data revenues include mobile internet, mobile broadband, games, location based services, video calls, mobile adverts, music, video and mobile TV.

App-Centric Operators on the Rise mobile trends_charging_report_h1_2014_lr_...Abdallah Nabulsi
As the evolution of data plans continues, unlimited data plans are becoming an offering of the past. Operators are moving away from actions that degrade QoE such as throttling Internet speed and when usage exceeds the volume cap; they simply charge the overage and maintain QoE. As tablets have proliferated during the last
two years, shared data plans have taken off (especially on LTE networks) and now come with various data sharing options. Data plans are evolving to accommodate
the different devices connecting to the mobile Internet, including tablets, dongles, and smartphones.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
