DON'T COMMUNICATE

There is need for business people
who can think quantitatively
They have to make decisions based
on data and analysis
#1 Insight
According to reports 1.5 million
more data savvy managers are
needed to take advantage of all
the data we generate.
Otherwise all the data which can
be used to make decisions goes
wasted
Though there are managers,
efficient managers are need to
understand the data
#2 Insight
You don’t need to become a
winemaker to become a wine
connoisseur.
That is Managers do not need to
become quant jocks.
Managers have to become better
consumers of data
They need to have appreciation for
quantitative analysis and an ability
to communicate what the numbers
mean
The job is not only just to crunch
the numbers, but also to
communicate them
A simple framework for communicating about
each analysis:
o My understanding of the business
problem
o How I will measure the business impact
o What data is available
o The initial solution hypothesis
o The solution
o The business impact of the solutions
Do not let the results get in the
way of telling a good story with
your data

  • 1. DATA IS WORTHLESS IF YOU DON'T COMMUNICATE by Thomas H. Davenport
  • 2. There is need for business people who can think quantitatively
  • 3. They have to make decisions based on data and analysis
  • 4. #1 Insight According to reports 1.5 million more data savvy managers are needed to take advantage of all the data we generate.
  • 5. Otherwise all the data which can be used to make decisions goes wasted
  • 6. Though there are managers, efficient managers are need to understand the data
  • 7. #2 Insight You don’t need to become a winemaker to become a wine connoisseur.
  • 8. That is Managers do not need to become quant jocks.
  • 9. Managers have to become better consumers of data
  • 10. They need to have appreciation for quantitative analysis and an ability to communicate what the numbers mean
  • 11. The job is not only just to crunch the numbers, but also to communicate them
  • 12. A simple framework for communicating about each analysis: o My understanding of the business problem o How I will measure the business impact o What data is available o The initial solution hypothesis o The solution o The business impact of the solutions
  • 13. Do not let the results get in the way of telling a good story with your data
