The Candidate: Getting User Feedback on a New Platform for Civic EngagementErica Swallow
This report is a final project for the Harvard Business School course, Launching Technology Ventures (LTV), taught by Professor Jeffrey Bussgang. This project presented an opportunity for teammate Scott Jacobsen, a cross-registrant from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, to collaborate with MIT Sloan School of Management cross-registrant Erica Swallow to research customer interest in his startup idea: A platform for political candidates to promote and raise funds for their campaigns while engaging voters with fresh and educational content about their campaign priorities and goals.
Scott’s background in politics -- as a campaign staffer for competitive U.S. Senate races and a veteran of a national advocacy group in Washington, D.C. -- set him up with a network and mindset to tackle the abyss of civic engagement, specifically at the Congressional level, which Americans seem to have particularly dismal opinions of: Congress currently stands at a 15% approval rating and the 2014 midterm election registered the lowest voter turnout in over 70 years.
With the lessons of LTV, Scott’s political savvy, and Erica’s experience in community management, startup marketing, and product design, the team set out on a mission to understand the platform’s potential user base and validate/invalidate current assumptions about that demographic’s top concerns and needs in regards to political engagement platforms.
The report details the team's analysis, process, and key findings.
Enhancing Your Visitor Experience Through a Virtual Tour - A WKU Case Studynucloud
We all want to make our websites more engaging right? Much of the time it is easier said than done. In this presentation we will talk about how Western Kentucky University has approached the online visitor experience and specifically how their virtual tour plays a crucial role in that process through their partnership with nuCloud.Along with giving this specific case study, you will also receive all the information that you need to prepare for a virtual tour project. Specifically we will be sharing and discussing lots of relevant data that has come out around the value of a virtual tour to a university for recruitment reasons. We will also teach you how to prepare an ROI analysis to build a case for doing a virtual tour project. Finally we will discuss some of the biggest pitfalls that you should avoid when developing your virtual tour or interactive map of campus.

Digital expectations and the student lifecycle: is engaging with students on ...Jisc
Speaker: Jack Tattersall, senior account manager, Guidebook.
Student expectations now demand their institutions offer a full mobile experience. This 60 minute session will map out the student lifecycle in detail and demonstrate how a mobile app can drive engagement at every stage. We'll discuss the challenges that face universities as they attempt to engage with students during the prospective, onboarding and support stages of the student lifecycle.
Attendees will walk away from this session with ideas on how to drive engagement and improve support through mobile. We'll offer a self-assessment of the university's current engagement performance and an action plan of how they could boost this through mobile technology.
Our goal is to ensure that more children find jobs by being academically and socially ready for their first year of college. The "College Ready" High School to College Pipeline program allows colleges and universities to enroll students that have been acculturated to college, both socially and academically. This program will increase their retention and graduation rates, while decreasing the institution's drop-out rates.

Librarians and faculty members from three institutions collaborated to adapt a metaliteracy Digital Citizen badge for use with graduate literacy education students. The multi-faceted goal is not only for these students to affirm their roles as digital citizens, but also to actively teach and model such citizenship to their prospective students. This grant-funded project, which adapts content from an existing metaliteracy badging system, incorporates mechanisms to encourage a community of users, and serves as a model for collaborations with faculty across various disciplines.
In this session, project collaborators will briefly introduce metaliteracy (metaliteracy.org), provide an overview of the badging system (metaliteracybadges.org), and discuss the components added for this project, and mechanisms that worked well for collaborating. We are not only concerned with collaboration within the grant team; we also built components that will encourage educators to create open access learning objects for an Educators Corner and an Educators Conference.
Drawing from expertise as co-creators and researchers in initiatives such as the new ACRL Information Literacy Framework and the Connecting Credentials (connectingcredentials.org) and Global Learning Qualifications Frameworks (funded by the Lumina Foundation), we have worked together to create a robust resource that will be available to every SUNY institution, and, ultimately, to interested institutions beyond SUNY. We encourage participants to actively engage in the presentation by contributing ideas for badging opportunities based on your own professional development and curricular goals to an open forum in the Educators Corner.
Out of mind, out of site: Engaging with your Alumni online (Eduweb 2013)Penny Richards Fowler
Your alumni graduated years ago and no longer visit your University's website. So how do you keep them engaged, and how have new technologies such as social media and mobile devices changed your alumni communications? This session will demonstrate how data analysis has driven changes to online communications within the Victoria University Alumni Relations program, based in Melbourne, Australia. It will explore in detail an Alumni Relations campaign utilising online resources, managing online engagement with other departments in a University, finding lost and successful Alumni, and issues communicating with international Alumni. Presented at Eduweb, Boston, July 2013.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
