A Brief Note On Deaths From Drunk Driving Essay
Andrew Weaver

Deaths From Drunk Driving
When driving down the road two ambulance s fly by with sirens screaming, on down the road
the ambulance s stop along with three fire truck s on the side of the road surrounded by many
police officers, passing by there is a car flipped upside down with another car head on into a tree
and white drapes over top of bodies on the road, through the window there is a man there blowing
into a breathalyzer, the number comes up as .16% this man is drunk and also the the driver of the
car that s flipped. Drunk driving is the cause of this, being under the influence messes up the train
of thought of the brain and messes with eye vision and reaction time. People are going crazy
driving drunk around the world, nobody is good at drinking and driving and never will be.
Drunk Driving is a serious problem in the United States and even all around the world, this needs
to come to a stop because innocent people are losing their lives from idiots driving while under
the influence. Drinking and Driving is when someone decides to get behind the wheel of a car
after drinking too many alcoholic beverages and trying to drive home. This is a serious problem,
drinking causes the brain to lose train of thought and lower reaction time of a human which is well
needed while driving an automobile especially during the night when visibility is low. Each day
people driving drunk almost 300,000 times but fewer than 4,000 are

Acid And Base Synthesis Lab Report
Extraction: Acid and Base Separation and Isolation
Kaleigh Conway
Chemistry 2270 Laboratory, Section 017
Instructor: Mudithangani Kolambage
October 11, 2017
Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to investigate the method of extraction as a means of isolating
pure compounds. In this experiment, the acid base extraction method was used on a mixture
composed of three separate components: an acid, a base, and a neutral component. The extraction
solvent used was diethyl ether. Through sequential acid base reactions where aqueous 10%
NaOH and aqueous 10% HCl were used in a separatory funnel, the three components were
extracted, isolated and then recovered through precipitate reverse reactions using 10% NaOH
and concentrated HCl. Once the components were isolated and recovered, a melting point
analysis was performed and these values were then compared to the values in the laboratory
handout in order to identify the compounds. Percent yield of each compound was also
calculated. It was found that the mixture contained Benzoic Acid with a melting range of 121.6
122.9 oC and a percent yield of 292%, Meta nitraniline with a melting range of 111.4 112.2 oC and
a percent yield of 204%, and Biphenyl with a melting range of 70.6 73.5 oC with a percent yield of
128%.

Pros And Cons Of Justin Theroux
Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux may not be legally married A few days after Justin Theroux
and Friends star Jennifer Aniston announced their separation following two years of marriage,
reports have emerged alleging that the duo were not legally married. According to TMZ.com,
there is no evidence of them being legally married in LA County. The couple had met on the sets
of Tropic Thunder in 2008 and began dating in 2011. In 2015, Jennifer and Justin got married at
their Bel Air mansion. However an investigation in the marriage records in LA County has shown
that the couple have no marriage license in their name in the records after 2010. It is possible that
Jennifer and Justin procured the license from any of the 57 counties in California.

Can t Remember a Time Without I-Tunes Essay
It s difficult to remember a time without iTunes. To many people, especially to the younger
generation, iTunes has always been a part of people s lives. When it launched on April 28, 2003,
iTunes was set to forever change the world of music and technology (Griggs Leopold). When it
first started, songs were available for instant download for only ninety nine cents and albums for
less than ten dollars. ITunes changed the way music was distributed and marketed. With the release
of iTunes, music consumers could now download music digitally with the click of a button.
Consumers no longer had to leave the comfort of their home to buy or listen to a song or an album.
Before iTunes and digital music, consumers had to buy a complete album or... Show more content

With iTunes, consumers instantly get what they want, which is a perfect fit for our technological
culture today, but the emotional experience of buying music has been shattered.
Because of iTunes, consumers have become more private listeners. Every song and album sits
directly in front of each consumer. Listeners buy the songs they personally want and place them
on their own portable music players. They listen to the songs by themselves as a private
experience (Griggs Leopold). Consumers do still share music, but do not engage in the social
experience that existed before iTunes and digital music. Today, listeners share music by sending
song files to each other or posting music on social media sites completely taking the shared and
social aspect out of music. The shift in behavior from enjoying music as a social experience to
listening to music as a personal experience has changed culture and society. Today s world is all
about the individual. People want things for themselves and they want them now. ITunes helped in
changing culture and society to be this way by making songs and albums available instantly to each
person. With iTunes, people can get the music they want instantly and are encouraged to listen to
music as a more private experience.
In the time of records and even CD s, there was no way to sell or buy single songs. ITunes
transformed music by marketing single songs instead of full albums.

Construction Of The Parthenon
The question of why the Parthenon was constructed has aroused debate both in the time of its
construction all the way up to the modern day. The Parthenon in Athens is one of the most
impressive pieces of architecture from the Greek world, made from Pentelic marble and some say
that it enjoys the reputation of being the most perfect Doric temple ever built (Norwich 2001: 63).
The question as to why it was built remains however and this essay will set out the main argument
for the construction of the Parthenonthat it was a monument to Athenian imperialism and then
move to arguing other factors that may have made the Parthenon a religious and cultural statement
for Athenians.
But first, before this question is answered we must understand the historical context behind the
construction of the Parthenon. The Parthenon that exists today was built to replace the old
Parthenon which was never fully finished due to it being destroyed when the Persians sacked the
city and burned the Acropolis to the ground levelled everything...set fire to the entire acropolis
(Herodotus 8.53.2). The Parthenon was built even though in the Oath of Platea the Greek city states
decreed that they would not rebuild that which the Persians had destroyed, therefore the Athenians
had arguably violated the Oath. The Parthenon was built during the Age of Periclesand the
architects Ictinos and Kallikrates began building the Parthenon in 447 BC under Phidias and was
basically finished in 432 BC with the decorations being finished in 431 BC.
The widely held belief when it comes to the Parthenon is that it is a statement of Athenian
imperialism especially when it comes to how the building itself was funded with the use of
П†ПЊПЃОїП‚ phoros , which we know means tribute, from the League. We can at least be sure
that the reserve of the Delian League was in fact used for the rebuilding of the Acropolis. (Meiggs
1963: 43.) Due to this it must be true that the Parthenon was a statement of Athenian Imperialism
both because the Delian League by this point had ceased to be a League of equals and had
morphed into the Athenian Empire, and that tribute, of about 460 talents per year in the early
stages of the League according to Aristides, that was meant

Montgomery College, I have been working hard on my grammar usage. Although I have made some
improvements, I still struggle with using the preposition and having missing words. Missing words
are my main struggle throughout the course. For instance, on the Nature essay, before the draft due,

on my paperthat my instructor point out. Although I tried super hard to get the concept of it, I
still have the difficulty of missing words on my essays. However, When I did the revisions, prof.

Social And Social Repercussions Of The Sugar Lifestyle
Social and personal repercussions of the sugar lifestyle:
The personal impact on a sugar baby is multi faceted. There are many aspects of her life that are
irreversibly changed by their decision to pursue a sugar relationship as a form of income. The
ramifications of their choices emerge in unforeseen ways. The social and personal repercussions
range from perceptions of the self and those around them, to their feeling towards others.
One of the strongest themes that comes through through the research is this idea of commodifying
emotion to provide financially. In literature and interviews it came through strongly that being able
to perform emotional labour (reference) was a fundamental portion of participating in a sugar
dating relationship. It was necessary to be emotionally accommodating to the sugar daddy or
mamma. Each individual person had a different expectation of themselves as to how much
emotional labour they could perform. Many of the sugar babies opinions coincided and agreed that
they were more comfortable having a sugar daddy that they had a natural connection with because
the amount of emotional labour they would have to perform would be diminished.
Personal repercussions of the sugar lifestyle ran deep in women discussion. Primarily they
centred around the feelings of guilt and shame they felt towards their life choice. There were a
multitude reasons for this a lot of them stemming from social censorship by their families and
friends. They also felt like it was a secret they had to keep. For some they were prepared to trusted
individuals (Sophie), for others they did not share their stories until they had finished with their
sugar baby lifestyle (Sarah). This demonstrate the power of the social stigma towards sugar dating
for young men and women as a means of income.
The emotional elements of engaging in a sugar relationship run beyond the social stigma. For some
of the women they found their dependency on their sugar daddies to be daunting, that was their
only means of income. In 2013 ABC Nightline interviewed a sugar baby and daddy duo called
Monty (21) and Tommy (63) about their specific arrangement. It become clear throughout the
interview that for Monty there is an element of

Boy Scouts Accomplishments
One day, adult leaders from a local Boy Scouts troop came to my first grade class recruiting new
Scouts. I remember the Scoutmaster mentioning how much fun and rewarding Scouting can be for
a young man and they also talked about the highest rank in the organization, the Eagle. According to
the Boy Scouts of America headquarters, only four percent of all registered youth who participates

the most difficult one to attain. As a young boy, I loved animals and my favorite one, the Eagle. I
knew that day; I wanted to join Boy Scouts with hopes and dreams of becoming an Eagle Scout.
The motto of the Cub Scouts is Do your Best and I did. I worked my way through, from Cub
Scouts to Webelos and finally to Boy Scouts, where, I worked through six of my ranks very
swiftly to get started toward my Trail to Eagle. After my new Scout badge, I obtained my
Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. Therefore, I began work on my 21 merit badges
that are pre requisite toward the Eagle rank and furthermore, twelve plus community service hours.
After I acquired the required merit badges and finished my volunteering commitment, I received my

1.1.Hive Vs. Relational RDBMS: Hive is a schema on read. In traditional database, before data
loading, the table s data has to be decided. If the data being loaded doesn t match with the
schema, the data will be rejected. Traditional database is schema on write. On other hand Hive
doesn t verify the data while loading the data into the tables. But while issuing the query, Hive
will test the data schema with the table schema. The load operation is just a file copy or file
move. But while reading log files, during table creation we can use RegexSerDe. It uses regular
expression to serialize/deserialize. The Regex deserializer interface converts the string or binary
representation of the data set into a java object that Hive can manipulate. Serializer will convert
the java object that Hive has been working with into something that Hive can write to HDFS or
another supported system. 2.Hive Architecture: Fig 2.1 Hive Architecture Fig 2.1 shows the main

Hello Lagertha,
Below is the memorandum for the negligence action regarding our client, Mr. Ragnarr Loobrok. To

of care was owed by the State of Victoria to prevent him from getting arrested once his bail

Ragnarr, must prove to the court that due to the states negligent actions he will consequently
experience economic loss. Causation refers to whether the defendants conduct (or omission), in
this case The State Of Victoria, caused the resulting harm or damage. The common law of
negligence obliges instigation of causation for the purposefulness of attaching legal
accountability. Another element that must be proven is that it is applicable for the scope of the
negligent persons liability to extend to the harm so caused (scope of liability ). As it is a case of
negligence the onus of proving, on the balance of probabilities, is weighed upon our client, the
plaintiff Mr. Ragnarr. Even if the but for test is applied to the current situation in the case, the
outcome would be that the loss suffered by the plaintiff would have only occurred if the defendant
acted negligently, which they did, and therefore if they hadn t have acted in that way, then our
client would not have been publicly humiliated by the State Of Victoria as a result. The court must
deliberate whether it is suitable to extend the scope of the defendant negligence to the harm caused
to the plaintiff and our client, Mr. Ragnarr. The harm that occurred, or similar harm, must have
been foreseeable in order for it to reach within the scope of liability upon the

What Are The Benefits Of Factory Farming
Factory Farming Has to Go Twenty decades ago, livestock farmers used to breed their animals in
the traditional way where their farm animals were let loose over a large area of farm and allowed
to reproduce naturally. Over recent years, a new system of rearing livestock has come into
existence which is more popularly known as Factory Farming. Factory Farming makes use of
extremely intensive procedures through the use of which poultry, cattle and other livestockare kept
indoors under rigid controlled settings. Since this technique has gained much popularity into how
foodis being produced in America, it is also one of the most debated and controversial concepts.
While it is true that using this modern method to produce meatand dairy one can expect greater
productivity at a swifter rate, the question still remains at what cost? Food manufacturers in
America claim that Factory Farming is a much cheaper way of processing meat and other food
items where they are able to increase their margins as well as provide the consumers with cheaper
food. However, current research on the effects of factory farming suggests that the method is one of
the best examples of animal cruelty (Park). The conditions that the animals... Show more content on

Broken Windows Theory
Broken Windows Theory When George L. Kelling and James Q. Wilson first proclaimed the
Broken Windows Theory, it states that maintaining an orderly environment law enforcement
needs to enforce a zero tolerance policy on disreputable people who commit small crimes like
public drinking and vandalism, thereby ultimately prevent bigger crimes from occurring. In the
mid 70 s Newark, New Jersey had implemented aspects of the Broken Windows Theory in order to
improve the quality of community life. By having police officers patrolling the city on foot instead
of driving, they hoped it will reduce crimerates. There was no difference in the way people
committed crimes rather police are patrolling on foot or in vehicles (Cullen, 498 499). The program

The American Of American Literature
American literature is the literature written or produced in the area of the United States and its
receding colonies. American literature as a whole is the written literary work, and the new England
colonies were the center of early American literature. American drama attained international status
only in the 1920s and 1930s, with the works of Eugene O Neil, who won four Pulitzer prizes and
the Noble prize. During the Middle of the 20th century, American drama was dominated by the
works of eminent playwright Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, as well as by the maturation of
the American music. American literature is a branch of English literature and independent subject.
American society is composed of different races and ethnicities, as suggested by the name of a title,

Progressives And The Progressive Era
The progressive Era was times in History were local state and federal government took a leap
forward in power and activism. In addition, the progressive era, was a time of development of
new reforms and changes for America. Progressivism handles a wide range of problems and
struggle for America. Such problems were created by unstructed industrialization, urbanization
and immigration. As well as, the unfavorable distribution of power and wealth. Progressives
believed strongly that problems such as these needed immediate action. Progressives existed in
churches, organized labor, local political life, organizations and progressives of high education.
Progressives wanted to make America better through inniatives, arranged action, idealism and

Tone Of Howl By Allen Ginsberg
Allen Ginsberg in his work, Howl tries to present a social commentary and a revolution. Allen
presents the struggle of the time when social pressures were quickly building up, and a
revolution was necessary which would free people from all forms of oppression. Allen presents
his experiences which is an encounter with his friend whom he met in a mental institution.
Allen uses several literary techniques to present the insanities in life and how people continue
to struggle with it in life which ends up in tragedies and cries. Throughout the poem, Allen uses
an elegiac tone which is a tone of mourning. From the very first line, the reader is prepared for
what will follow in the subsequent lines and stanzas. In the first line, Allen says he is outraged,
and that is why is crying out to the world to stop the destruction of a generation. In general, Allen
is crying about the oppression and subjugation in the society. The speaker in the poem appears to
be smart. The speaker s words do not come out in a proper order which makes the reader imagine
that he was from a long sleep and he has been awakened by the reality of things and he wants us
to join him through his lane and tell us what he saw. The speaker does not use proper English, and
there is a lot of syntax in the verses which help the reader in understanding that the person speaking
is drugged or has some mental illness. For Allen, he embodies the mental illness of his friend he is

having a child. We have discussed about the possibilities that could happen if we do decide to go
through with it. More importantly, how good of a parent can we become? Will we be able to
provide for all the needs of the child? Will we be able to instill the needed values for the child to
grow as an upstanding person? How can we be the right type of parents and should we do it the
American or the Filipino way? These are the discussions that we have every time the topic of child
rearing comes to mind. We are almost in our thirties, so this is an eventuality that is getting closer
and closer. There is an enormous amount of information about parentingstyles. According to
Baumrind there are four styles of parenting, which are, authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and
uninvolved parenting (as cited in Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). Authoritarian parenting
means you exercise a lot of control over the child with little to no concern for the child s opinion.
The parents establish strict guidelines for the child with the threat of repercussions if not followed.
Authoritative parenting combines a fair degree of parental control with being warm and
responsive to children ( Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). This is the parenting style
recommended by most people, as studies have shown this parenting style reared children better who
are better equipped with social skills

Nordstrom’S Was Established In 1901 And Was A Retail Store
Nordstrom s was established in 1901 and was a retail store for shoes. Among the stores many
goals was to offer a wide selection of merchandise with outstanding quality and service. It was
twenty two years before they added a second store, and eventually became one of the largest
shoe store chains in the United States. They began offering clothing and accessories for the
entire family. Right now, they are one of the top luxury retailers with over 320 stores in 29
states in have expanded into Canada. I have chosen to explore the financial health of Nordstrom

By using profitability ratios, investors can measure the income or operating success of a

common stock. Nordstrom s earnings per share was $3.77 in 2013 and increased to $3.79 in
2014; while its competitor Macy s, has an earnings per share ratio of $4.30 in 2014. This ratio
means that for every share of common stock outstanding, Nordstrom has an income of $3.79 in
2014 and $3.77 in 2013. Compared to 2013, Nordstrom had an increase of 2 cents in earnings per
share, which depicts an increasing earning in its shares of common stock. Macy s, on the other
hand, had an income of $4.30 in 2014 for every share of common stock outstanding, which is 51
cents higher than Nordstrom s ratio in 2014. This indicates that Macys is more efficient in terms
of generating its net income from their common stock outstanding. Return on Assets Ratio

The Marriage Roles Of Elmer And Lavera Enacted
For Carolyn, the combination of faith and equality started in her earliest memories. In Chicago, the
family attended a Mennonite church that was intentionally interracial (Huffman). The church has
both white and black pastors and a strongly diverse congregation. As mentioned before, early
experiences with racial equality also colored Carolyn s thoughts on genderequality. Though heavily
exposed to issues of racial equality at that age, gender equality was still far off. We grew up with
the idea that the man was the head of the household. That would have just been accepted in our
family, in our church, in our relatives...that s just how it was (Huffman). The marriage roles Elmer
and LaVera enacted came not only from cultural norms, but... Show more content on

But I think that s also, in some ways, been the hardest part. Because it moves so slowly. ...If there
ever would have been anything that would have made me not be a Christian, or give up my faith,
it would have been [gender issues] because so many people made it seem like you couldn t be a
strong woman or a woman that believed that you had equal voice, equal whatever if you were a
Christian. They would pull these ugly verses out of the Bible and tell you them. It took me a
long time to kind of figure out why or maybe to justify my position, I m not sure which why I
think what I think. Again, I think it s related to racial issues for me and gender issues. I really
believe with all my heart, from everything that Jesus says in the Bible, that Jesus thinks we re all
alike. He says over and over again things about caring for the widows and the poor and the lepers
and the downtrodden and the outcasts. I just think that message of respect and equality and
inclusiveness and love for all is there. To me, it s one of the central things about what it means to
be a Christian. That love and acceptance for everybody....It s also why, at this point, I feel the same
way about homosexuality. Because, to me, that s part of that. Yep, Jesus would accept us all.
(Huffman)

Biomass As A Renewable Energy Resource
3Biomass as a renewable energy resource
Biomass can be considered as a renewable energy resource, although burning biomass releases
carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere similar to burning fossil fuel (Liu H. 2011). There is a
significant difference in CO2 release between burning a fossil fuel and burning biomass. Burning a
fossil fuel releases CO2 that has been locked up for millions of years in the ground, affecting the
natural CO2 cycle and resulting in an increase in the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.
Burning biomass simply return to the atmosphere the same amount of CO2 which was absorbed
from the air via the photosynthesis process while the biomass plant was growing over a
relatively short period of time (a few years to decade), and there is no net release of C02 into the
atmosphere, i.e., CO2 neutral, if the cycle of growth and harvest is sustained. Therefore,
biomass can consider as a renewable energy resource as shown in Figure 3.1 (Li u H. 2011). If the
production and transportation of the biomass fuel involve the use of fossil fuel, there would
become net release of CO2 with biomass combustion (Liu H. 2011) Figure 3.1 Biomass is a
renewable energy resource (Liu H. 20 11)
In fact, real biomass energy production systems are differing from the ideal carbon cycle shown in
Figure 3.1 in two important ways. Firstly, the production of biomass energy always consumes fossil
energy for the farming, transportation and production stages of the process (Hill et al.

Trophy hunters ...kill thousands of exotic wild animals, representing hundreds of different species,

Essay on Music Copyright Infringement
Music Copyright Infringement MP3 is an audio format that allows users to compress and send
music files easily over the Internet. The major problem with this music sharing is that most of the
files are pirated, which has caused a stir in the music industry. Music companies and music artists
have been complaining about how their music is being stolen and therefore lowering their album
sales. The major blame has been put on Napster and other file sharing software available on the
Internet.
Napster was a music sharing software that was shut down because of copying and distributing
unauthorized MP3 files that violated the United States and foreign copyright laws. One of the major
reasons why Napster was shutdown is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The ongoing file sharing of music on the Internet has caused the loss of millions of dollars for
the music industries. Instead of people going to the store and purchasing CD s from their
favorite music artists, they are going on the Internet and downloading their songs for free.
Downloading one song can take as fast as thirty seconds, which means that a person can
download an entire album in less then 10 minutes. After downloading these songs in MP3
format, a person can easily burn the songs onto a music CD using a CD writer. This is how easy
it is for a person to make their own CD and spend much less money doing so. A CD normally
ranges from ten to twenty dollars in price. But if you were to make your own CD it can cost
anywhere from fifty cents to three dollars. This depends on what quality CD s you use or how
cheap you buy them for. Downloading your own music and making your own CD s cuts down the
price around 90 percent. This means that as more and more people purchase CD writers, the music
industry will be losing more and more money.

Customers
The customer s interest within Tesco would be that they would want to buy a range of products
that are of a high quality or receive or a good service from Tesco. If the customers do not receive
the products/services they have paid for they would be unhappy with Tesco, which could mean that
they may move to a competitor, causing Tesco to be losing customers and could also mean that,
Tesco would get a negative reputation from this and can further reduce the amount of customers
that go there. This shows that customers have a big influence for Tesco, as Tesco would needthem
as a source of income. Tesco wouldn t be meeting their aims if they didn t have customers because
they wouldn t be making a profit and wouldn t be making what matters better, together (which is

As you can see form Chart B, we calculated percent change between the different types of music.
When our subjects listened to heavy metal music, their heart rates increased on average. When our
subjects listened to classical music, their heart rates decreased on average, below resting heart rate.
Our tables do not show the negative side of the spectrum, but still show the percent change in heart
rate, which is what we were trying to accomplish. Due to classical music actually lowering heart
rate, our hypothesis was not proven complete. Relate back to our hypothesis. We hypothesized
that fast tempo music would increase heart rates while slower paced music will keep heart rate
at about the same. Still, if you relate back to the table and Chart A, we have still conducted
positive evidence to prove that music does play a role in a change of heart rates. Each subject
did experience a change in heart rate, both positive and negative. This experiment does relate
back to the original real world issue of heart rate. Being able to understand how to control heart
rate is very important. If someone has heart problems or an irregular heart beat they need to be
aware of certain music that could potentially be harmful to them. Like wise, if someone were

In at the cemetery, walnut grove plantation, south carolina, 1989, by Lucille Clifton, the purpose is
to expose the injustice that has happened to the dead slaves. The slaves were buried without any
gravestone and the women were not even counted when the owner of the plantation wrote down his
inventory. This injustice is what pushed Lucille Clifton to write this poem. In the poem, Clifton
attempts to draw attention to the fact that the honor was taken from the slaves, after their deaths,
and Clifton tries to restore the honor that was stolen from the slaves. However, in Ain t I a Woman
the purpose was to expose the inequalities of an African Americanwoman during Truth s life. In
Truth s speech she mentions how other women should be lifted over ditches, helped into carriages,

Star Formation Essay
As described in our text, the material that makes up the universe is recycled constantly through
the formation and evolution of stars. Clouds of atomic gas cool and condense, forming cold,
dense clouds of molecular gas. Within these clouds of cold gas, stars can form. It takes just some
push, pull, or magnetic field to cause the cloud to fall into gravitational collapse. Once the cloud is
collapsing, the road to becoming a staris an inevitable one. The formation of a star involves many
different stages. In the beginning, there is just dust and a gas. Slowly, over time, the dust and gas

Analysis of Fernando Botero s Style
Fernando Botero s style is arguably one of the most distinctive of artists still alive today.
Embracing a sweeping aesthetic that attempts to celebrate the vivacity of life with seemingly
disproportionately enlarged figures, Botero s style celebrates an assortment of riotous colors while
alternating between scenes of his native Columbia and social political themes (Haas). An
examination of the development of Botero s style indicates that it has a number of disparate
sources and influences which informed the artist, who ultimately refined and merged them with
characteristics from his own life to render works that are inimitably his own. An analysis of key
works of artistry from Botero support the hypothesis that his larger than life style of paintingand
sculpture was conceived of as a means of conveying the richness and complexity of the events,
feelings and actions that constitute the scope of life itself.
Botero s merging of different styles of art to form his own is probably best documented by the
formal training he received in this discipline. He travelled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico,
and the United States while attending educational institutions and absorbing local methods and
themes of art work. Although he studied at Sapin s San Fernando Academy and spent a substantial
amount of time in Paris, it was his education at Florence s Academy of San Marcos would create the
most significant impact on his future creations. The artist stayed in Italy from 1953 to

Vague Expectations Of Masculinity In Heavy Metal
The vague notions of masculinity have substantial effects on an individual s self image. This
statement is verified through examining the ideological thinking that encompasses the genre of
Heavy Metal. Aspects of Heavy Metal can have an underlying connection to the ideals of
masculinity. The vocal techniques employed by the lead singer, Danny Worsnop, are often
associated with the construct of masculinity. While Otep vocalist, Otep Shamaya and Angela
Gossow of Arch Enemy fame are examples of women who utilise harsh vocals, these type of
vocal growls are often perceived as taboo for females. The female vocalists that do delve into this
form of singing are often characterised as masculine and dominant which is often perpetuated by
the visual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The notion that the gender constructs of male and female are meant to be binary opposing cause
conflict as all individuals will have crossed between these definitions on occasions. This is
evident through examining the contemporary machinations of the Heavy Metal genre. The
narration of the song lyrically delves into the concept of lust, propelling this notion of
masculinity. Therefore, this creates an identity crisis for males which of whom do not fit within
the emotionless and fornication obsessed archetype. This outlook on the lust also remains within
the realm of heterosexuality which also indirectly degrades a homosexual male s identification
with the concept of masculinity. A sense of violence could also be determined through the lyrics,
I see you cold, I feel you heartless. This double entendre could be interpreted as a materialistic
view of the protagonist towards the female or refer to the protagonist murdering the female
character. The ideal of masculinity, in regard to the careless attitude towards women, does not
alter regardless of which interpretation of this figurative language the audience perceives. The
strong themes within the lyrics promote a degrading image of women as purely a sex object with
the sole purpose to please the desires of men. This is evident within such lyrics as, Make this night
worth my time , Your thighs were made for cheeks to graze

Why Did The Schlieffen Plan Fail
The Schlieffen Plan The Germans thought that they might have to go to war with Russia. If this
would happen/occur, France would most likely join Russia, considering that she was Russia s ally.
This would mean that Germany would have to fight a two front war, which would be a
nightmare. The Schlieffen Plan was a plan to avoid a war on two fronts against Russia and France.
The plan itself started in 1905 as a thought experiment, but the planning started before the
1900s(1892). The Schlieffen Plan started the Franco Russian alliance. The obvious solution to the
plan was to quickly beat one country, then focus against the other one. But which country should

The Murder Of Tutankhamun s Tomb

December 1, 2014
The murder of Tutankhamun After the discovery of Tutankhamun s tomb in 1922, scholars
determined that although the cause of death is still unknown, he died when he was only 19
years old. Why did he die at such a young age? From that moment there have been many studies
focusing on explaining his death. One hypothesis is that Aye could be accountable for
Tutankamun s death on the basis of jealousness, need for power and forcing his way into the
throne. Doctors and scientists performed different types of studies attempting to determine if
the Boy King was murdered, sick with any chronic illness or infection, or any other cause of
death. In one of these studies, an x ray revealed there was a blow in the head. Allegedly it didn t
kill him right away but short time after he mysteriously died. The image showed what could have
been a hematoma at the lower base of the skull, probably caused by a blow to the back of the
head. (The Death of King Tut: Was it murdered?) . This blow to the back of the head could support
the hypothesis of King Tutankhamun being murdered. If such theory were true, it is possible that
someone close to him could have been accountable for his death. Aye was his most closest advisor,
which leaves room for questioning if he could have been responsible. SГЎnchez ГЃvila 2
There are at least three reasons why Aye could have been jealous of King Tut. The first is that

French Revolution
French Revolution: The Influences
When the Enlightenment occurred, it established some modern day ideals such as religious
toleration, separation of powers, and natural rights. These Enlightened principles eventually spread
throughout France, causing the people to question the current state of their society, and ultimately
causing the French Revolution. Montesquieu and Voltairewere two very major Enlightenment
figures whose beliefs had a huge impact on the French Revolution. The ever growing middle class
of France had begun to have access to and absorb some writings and ideas of philosophes like
Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau, and Diderot. In addition, the recent American Revolution proved

Frida Kahlo Editing Techniques
The documentary Portrait of an Artist by Frida Kahlo is easily seen as an old film due to the
simple editing techniques. Despite this, the film still accurately portrays the artist s life in the
famous Blue House outside of Mexico City. She shared this home with her husband Diego Rivera,
who was a famous muralist and painter. Frida Kahlos full name was Magdalena Carmen Frida
Kahlo y CalderГіn de Rivera. She was born in CoyoacГЎn, Mexicoon July 6, 1907. She ended up
changed her birth year to 1910 in order to associate herself more with being a product of the
Mexican Revolution. Her father was a Hungarian Jew who immigrated from Germany to Mexico.

could have been the cause of their divorce in 1939. Yet surprisingly they remarried the following

lower body was impaled on a metal rod causing her pelvis to break and her spine in three places.
She spent most of her life hospitalized and in bed. During her life she had three miscarriages

gangrenous leg, which was amputated. After this her condition and attitude got worse which

Analysis of The Brady Bill Essay
Analysis of The Brady Bill
Introduction The legislative process in the United States Congress shows us an interesting drama
in which a bill becomes a law through compromises made by diverse and sometimes conflicting
interests in this country. There have been many controversial bills passed by Congress, but
among all, I have taken a particular interest in the passage of the Brady bill. When the Brady
debate was in full swing in Congress about three years ago, I was still back in my country,
Japan, where the possession of guns is strictly restricted by laws. While watching television news
reports on the Brady debate, I wondered what was making it so hard for this gun control bill to
pass in this gun violence ridden
country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exception was the Southern Democrats most of whom joined the Republicans to vote for the
amendment. This party division was not so surprising, however, considering the huge campaign
contributions made by the chief gun lobby, the
National Rifle Association (NRA), directed mostly to the Republicans, and the exception of the
Southern Democrats could be explained by the gun right supportive nature of their constituents.
In the 1992 election for example, this organization made $1.7 million contribution to its
sympathetic congressional candidates and spent another $870,000 in independent expenditures
for congressional races.1 The influence the NRA exercised on the legislation was enormous
since the final bill passed in 1993 was a compromise version reflecting some of the NRA sought
provisions. I could say that it was because of this persistent lobby that the Brady bill took as long as
7 years to become a law. On the other side, the advocates of the bill enjoyed a wide support from
the public as well as from the Handgun Control Inc., the chief gun control lobby led by Sarah
Brady, the wife of James Brady. The consistent public support for the bill from the introduction
through the passage of the bill was manifested by many polls. One of the polls conducted by NBC
News and Wall Street

Another idea of a product I have chosen to develop my product as opposed to other products
because other markets are not as big as the chocolate industry for example chewing gum and
doughnuts have smaller industries with fewer competitors and therefore they will have fewer
potential customers compared to customers of chocolate products.
For my product I have decided to consult and work within Cadburys. Cadburys is a worldwide
famous chocolate brand which is a factory based in Birmingham. This business is well established
and therefore would be a good business to launch my product within as my business will already
have potential and existing customers of Cadburys, this will help to expand and grow the
business which will lead to an increased amount of profits earnt from my product. Also by
choosing to work along with Cadburys, I believe this suits my product because they are on the
same market as my new product, this also means we will have the same target market and will
be a good company to work with. By working for Cadburys this will also be a benefit for them
because It will give them diversification and reach out to new potential customers. I have decided
to work with Cadburys because they are a large business who have been around for many years.

Cahokia Analysis
Bryant, Jackson 4B I had never heard of the ancient Cahokia before reading the America Before
Columbus article. What I found most surprising is that the Cahokia had been a civilization in
America that flourished and perished before Columbus even discovered the New World. Europeans
had the misconception that the land discovered by Columbus was not settled and that no
civilizations had existed before Columbus arrived. They believed the only inhabitants were tribes
that continually wandered and made no attempt to stay in one place, farm, or build communities.
The European believes were not accurate considering the Cahokia had built ceremonial grounds,
cultivated and farmed crops, and used wood from forests to make stockade walls. Native

Causes Of Fast Fashion
Fast Fashion is a worldwide epidemic that encourages and feeds capitalism, consumerism, and
the end of our planet Earth. This is a detrimental 2 4 week cycle of designing clothes,
manufacturing it, producing mass quantities of it, and spreading it throughout the world in stores
like H M, Forever 21, Zara, ASOS, and many other brands. These brands usually all get mass
quantities of clothes from closely related sweatshops from countries where labor is cheap, and
where safety laws and ethical human rights are not enforced: china, Vietnam, Cambodia, and
Bangladesh. Production of clothes usually costs a small fraction of what they are selling it for,
since all the materials are from regions all over the world the worth of a shirt is much less than
what you are buying it for. The reason this vicious cycle is detrimental to our planet earthis because
of the unending mass production. It manufactures unbelievable amounts of one item, because it
will be gone in the next 2 4 weeks from the racks, and since they do not have enough time to
remake the one item, they produce mass quantities of it and what is not sold is waste that is piling
up all around our world in landfills.
Fast Fashion is one of the leading causes for climate change, pollution, and it feeds the capitalistic
mouth that lives of off exploitation and slavery (free labor). It is because of crisis like Fast Fashion
that change is desperately needed and nonprofits alone cannot cut it. Social entrepreneurism, on the

Ryan Bailey Patterson s Resistance And Resilience
In Ryan bailey Patterson s article, Resistance and Resilience Patterson discusses the impact that
politicalized art can have on a movement. Patterson articulates her argument by first giving
historical context to the violent phenomena and then explaining the impact that politicalized art had
on the anti feminicide movement in Cuidad Juarez as the art functioned as a communicator
between the women of Cuidad Juarez and the outside world. The art not only communicated the
problem in the city but helped give context to the problem and excited enough emotion in the
outside party to transform the grassroots movement into a transnational movement. Through a wide
range of evidence, Patterson supports the idea that politicalized art is an effective way to create
social awareness of a social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patterson in his article , Resistance and Resilience uses a wide range of evidence as she describes
the origins of the anti feminicide movement. Patterson in her article gives historical context of the
conditions of women in the Cuidad Jaurez and talks about the effects of the Maquiladora Program
which replaced the Bracero program in 1965. Patterson claims that , Cuidad Juarez became a
hunting ground for innocent female victims with the establishment of the Maquiladora Program.
Patterson backs this claim by providing evidence of how the program led to a job crisis which
led to the creation of the National boarder Development Program which allowed foreign
corporations to outsource their production to mexico where the labor was cheaper and the finished
exports had little to no tariffs. This program forced to women to look for any available jobs.

Pro And Negative Effects Of Islamophobia
But as we say Muslims empire was scary because it was powerful so in beginning of the eighteenth
century with the decreasing of the Ottomans power and the rapid increase of European empire
powers, Islam was not that much scary anymore and Islamophobia was disappeared gradually.
However, Islamophobia picked up again when these European powers, which were mainly
Christians, decrease again after World War II. While European countries and some of Asian ones
and USA were burning in World War II fire most of the Islamic nations being far of WW heart had
time to become industrialized and powerful in their own right. Also, improvements in healthcare
and medical facilities a sudden increase in Muslims population and migrations of those Muslims
were looking for higher educations in non Muslim areas increase number of Muslims in the west
(the 1950s), which was an early point for originating of the new version of Islamophobia, in those

We also learned how harmful can Islamophobia be for both Muslims and non Muslims. The fact
that Islamophobia already exists is not deniable and Islamic radicals are all over the world
growing like cancer especially in Europe. The point that we should keep in mind that all pervious
strategies like civil wars or hate news in media make everything even worse, in my opinion, this
time, its west who should learn from the east. Instead of being afraid of Muslims and Islam west
should try to learn about Islamic cultures and show respect to it while accepting it differences.
Also, it will be so effective if western society shows they are putting difference between radical
Muslims and others ones. West should keep in mind that radical Islam problem cannot be solved
without the help of other Muslims so having peaceful relation with the Muslim community is the
key to peace between all Muslim community and non Muslim

Ida B Wells Argument For Lynchingnings
In the late 19th century, lynchings were commonplace occurrences, especially in Southern states.
The lynchings were publicized in newspaper ads and were so accepted that postcards showing
pictures of the event were sold as souvenirs. Apologists claimed that the lynchings took place to
punish criminals for their crimes and to protect white women from black aggressors. To counter the
claims that resulted in these punishments, many activists, including Ida B. Wells, wrote speeches
depicting the harsh and racist reality of lynchings. In 1909, Wells gave a speech at the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People s first annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia,
in which she condemns lynchings and their public acceptance. By offering... Show more content on

In her speech, Ida B. Wells appeals to emotion and logic by using statistics and real life stories of
lynchings. She also counters the apologists defense of lynching by using strong language and
statistics to disprove the validity of their claims. Finally, Wells offers a solution on how to end
lynching and ensures that crimes will still be punished, even if lynching subsides. Despite the
criticism of Wells and many other authors and activists, lynching persisted in the United States for a
substantial period of time. Lynchings were so frequent in Southern states that Montgomery,
Alabama, has plans to build a lynching memorial to recognize the mistreatment of black citizens
and memorialize the victims. However, lynchings then were not the public disgrace they are now
considered, and the unjust treatment of black citizens continued even after the Civil Rights Act of
1964. Activists like Wells have continued to identify racism when they see it in hopes to create a
more equal society, but many would argue that an equal society still has not been

YMJ Investment Final Project
Throughout the semester we really had to watch the markets in order to obtain a successful
portfolio. The way we approached this task was through constant watching of the securities
market to find out current trends as well as picking up stocks we thought were undervalued at
that time. The latter, of course, applies to our managed portfolio, where we were able to select
stocks we deemed were good investments. We observed that this specific portfolio gave us more
stable returns, which we attributed to the lower betas of these stocks. One can also conclude that
the worst performers of the same portfolio were due the same cause. Based on the returns of our

CVS Caremark Corp: Clearly, we got this one right and it was our best investment. We thought this
was a safe stock to purchase because it was a top 20 company in the 2013 Fortune 500 list as well
as operating in an industry that has been in great demand by the American population as it is
aging rapidly. Another conclusion that we arrived while discussing the possible purchases was
that the company operates only in the US, so it had a great opportunity to seize the market of
overweight Americans who suffer from several diseases related to this problem, and have to buy

Colgate Palmolive Co: This was another good investment in our opinion. The company had a low

would be good component for our portfolio to hedge against stocks that held greater risk. Although
the company has been known to harm the environment by consuming high levels of palm oil, we

The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s Essay
The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s
In 1800 no jurisdiction in the United Sates had enacted any statutes whatsoever on the subject of
abortion... Yet by 1900 virtually every jurisdiction in the United States had laws upon its books that
proscribed the practice sharply and declared most abortions to be criminal offenses (Mohr p. VII).
Societal Changes from the Early 1800s to the Mid 1800s
During the early 1800s, abortion at the beginning of a pregnancy was neither immoral nor criminal.
Common law held that before quickening, the first perception of fetal movement by the mother,
usually during the second trimester, the fetus was not alive or independent. After quickening
abortion was a criminal offense, because the fetus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Electricity was also applied to the thighs to induce miscarriage. Samuel Jennings book, The
Married Ladies Companion, targeted rural women. It offered frank advice for women who ?took a
common cold,? the colloquialism for missing a menstrual period. It urged using cathartics like aloe
and calomel, and bleeding from the foot to restore menstruation (Mohr p. 6 7).
In addition, rural women relied on underground networks of communication to spread abortifacient
information by word of mouth (Mohr p. 107). To induce miscarriages, women employed Folk and
Native American herbal abortifacients. The following herbs were most frequently recommended:
black hellebore, savin, aloe, calomel, horehound, madder root, Spanish fly, jalap, scammony, bitter
apple, myrrh, Seneca snakeroot, and black cohosh (Mohr p. 8 12).
Most women who sought abortions during the first decades of the 1800s were young and
unmarried. They aborted their illegitimate pregnancies to preserve their reputation in society and
their prospect of marriage (Mohr p. 16 17). If virginity was the boundary between life as a
respectable wife and life as a prostitute, then women who had become pregnant before marriage
had little choice but to abort (Beisel p. 30). Doctors recognized that abortion would save these
women from a life of destitution and were sympathetic to their plight. While they did not encourage
abortion, they would turn a blind eye (Mohr p. 88 89). This attitude would change as the perception

  • 4. Acid And Base Synthesis Lab Report Extraction: Acid and Base Separation and Isolation Kaleigh Conway Chemistry 2270 Laboratory, Section 017 Instructor: Mudithangani Kolambage October 11, 2017 Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to investigate the method of extraction as a means of isolating pure compounds. In this experiment, the acid base extraction method was used on a mixture composed of three separate components: an acid, a base, and a neutral component. The extraction solvent used was diethyl ether. Through sequential acid base reactions where aqueous 10% NaOH and aqueous 10% HCl were used in a separatory funnel, the three components were extracted, isolated and then recovered through precipitate reverse reactions using 10% NaOH and concentrated HCl. Once the components were isolated and recovered, a melting point analysis was performed and these values were then compared to the values in the laboratory handout in order to identify the compounds. Percent yield of each compound was also calculated. It was found that the mixture contained Benzoic Acid with a melting range of 121.6 122.9 oC and a percent yield of 292%, Meta nitraniline with a melting range of 111.4 112.2 oC and a percent yield of 204%, and Biphenyl with a melting range of 70.6 73.5 oC with a percent yield of 128%. • 6. Can t Remember a Time Without I-Tunes Essay It s difficult to remember a time without iTunes. To many people, especially to the younger generation, iTunes has always been a part of people s lives. When it launched on April 28, 2003, iTunes was set to forever change the world of music and technology (Griggs Leopold). When it first started, songs were available for instant download for only ninety nine cents and albums for less than ten dollars. ITunes changed the way music was distributed and marketed. With the release of iTunes, music consumers could now download music digitally with the click of a button. Consumers no longer had to leave the comfort of their home to buy or listen to a song or an album. Before iTunes and digital music, consumers had to buy a complete album or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With iTunes, consumers instantly get what they want, which is a perfect fit for our technological culture today, but the emotional experience of buying music has been shattered. Because of iTunes, consumers have become more private listeners. Every song and album sits directly in front of each consumer. Listeners buy the songs they personally want and place them on their own portable music players. They listen to the songs by themselves as a private experience (Griggs Leopold). Consumers do still share music, but do not engage in the social experience that existed before iTunes and digital music. Today, listeners share music by sending song files to each other or posting music on social media sites completely taking the shared and social aspect out of music. The shift in behavior from enjoying music as a social experience to listening to music as a personal experience has changed culture and society. Today s world is all about the individual. People want things for themselves and they want them now. ITunes helped in changing culture and society to be this way by making songs and albums available instantly to each person. With iTunes, people can get the music they want instantly and are encouraged to listen to music as a more private experience. In the time of records and even CD s, there was no way to sell or buy single songs. ITunes transformed music by marketing single songs instead of full albums. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Construction Of The Parthenon The question of why the Parthenon was constructed has aroused debate both in the time of its construction all the way up to the modern day. The Parthenon in Athens is one of the most impressive pieces of architecture from the Greek world, made from Pentelic marble and some say that it enjoys the reputation of being the most perfect Doric temple ever built (Norwich 2001: 63). The question as to why it was built remains however and this essay will set out the main argument for the construction of the Parthenonthat it was a monument to Athenian imperialism and then move to arguing other factors that may have made the Parthenon a religious and cultural statement for Athenians. But first, before this question is answered we must understand the historical context behind the construction of the Parthenon. The Parthenon that exists today was built to replace the old Parthenon which was never fully finished due to it being destroyed when the Persians sacked the city and burned the Acropolis to the ground levelled everything...set fire to the entire acropolis (Herodotus 8.53.2). The Parthenon was built even though in the Oath of Platea the Greek city states decreed that they would not rebuild that which the Persians had destroyed, therefore the Athenians had arguably violated the Oath. The Parthenon was built during the Age of Periclesand the architects Ictinos and Kallikrates began building the Parthenon in 447 BC under Phidias and was basically finished in 432 BC with the decorations being finished in 431 BC. The widely held belief when it comes to the Parthenon is that it is a statement of Athenian imperialism especially when it comes to how the building itself was funded with the use of П†ПЊПЃОїП‚ phoros , which we know means tribute, from the League. We can at least be sure that the reserve of the Delian League was in fact used for the rebuilding of the Acropolis. (Meiggs 1963: 43.) Due to this it must be true that the Parthenon was a statement of Athenian Imperialism both because the Delian League by this point had ceased to be a League of equals and had morphed into the Athenian Empire, and that tribute, of about 460 talents per year in the early stages of the League according to Aristides, that was meant ... Although I have made some improvements, I still struggle with using the preposition and having missing words. Missing words are my main struggle throughout the course. For instance, on the Nature essay, before the draft due, I proofread it, and went to writingcenter a couple times; however, I still had some missing words on my paperthat my instructor point out. • 9. Social And Social Repercussions Of The Sugar Lifestyle Social and personal repercussions of the sugar lifestyle: The personal impact on a sugar baby is multi faceted. There are many aspects of her life that are irreversibly changed by their decision to pursue a sugar relationship as a form of income. The ramifications of their choices emerge in unforeseen ways. The social and personal repercussions range from perceptions of the self and those around them, to their feeling towards others. One of the strongest themes that comes through through the research is this idea of commodifying emotion to provide financially. In literature and interviews it came through strongly that being able to perform emotional labour (reference) was a fundamental portion of participating in a sugar dating relationship. It was necessary to be emotionally accommodating to the sugar daddy or mamma. Each individual person had a different expectation of themselves as to how much emotional labour they could perform. Many of the sugar babies opinions coincided and agreed that they were more comfortable having a sugar daddy that they had a natural connection with because the amount of emotional labour they would have to perform would be diminished. Personal repercussions of the sugar lifestyle ran deep in women discussion. Primarily they centred around the feelings of guilt and shame they felt towards their life choice. There were a multitude reasons for this a lot of them stemming from social censorship by their families and friends. They also felt like it was a secret they had to keep. For some they were prepared to trusted individuals (Sophie), for others they did not share their stories until they had finished with their sugar baby lifestyle (Sarah). This demonstrate the power of the social stigma towards sugar dating for young men and women as a means of income. The emotional elements of engaging in a sugar relationship run beyond the social stigma. For some of the women they found their dependency on their sugar daddies to be daunting, that was their only means of income. In 2013 ABC Nightline interviewed a sugar baby and daddy duo called Monty (21) and Tommy (63) about their specific arrangement. It become clear throughout the interview that for Monty there is an element of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Boy Scouts of America headquarters, only four percent of all registered youth who participates in Scoutingearns the Eagle rank. It s one of the most coveted achievement, a Scout can seek and the most difficult one to attain. As a young boy, I loved animals and my favorite one, the Eagle. I knew that day; I wanted to join Boy Scouts with hopes and dreams of becoming an Eagle Scout. The motto of the Cub Scouts is Do your Best and I did. I worked my way through, from Cub Scouts to Webelos and finally to Boy Scouts, where, I worked through six of my ranks very swiftly to get started toward my Trail to Eagle. After my new Scout badge, I obtained my Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. In 2004 Google introduced MapReduce. It simplified the data processing on a large cluster. But many organizations have only few developers who can write good MapReduce code, which is written in java. On other hand Hive doesn t verify the data while loading the data into the tables. But while issuing the query, Hive will test the data schema with the table schema. The load operation is just a file copy or file move. But while reading log files, during table creation we can use RegexSerDe. It uses regular expression to serialize/deserialize. The Regex deserializer interface converts the string or binary representation of the data set into a java object that Hive can manipulate. Serializer will convert the java object that Hive has been working with into something that Hive can write to HDFS or another supported system. 2.Hive Architecture: Fig 2.1 Hive Architecture Fig 2.1 shows the main components of Hive. What Are The Benefits Of Factory Farming Factory Farming Has to Go Twenty decades ago, livestock farmers used to breed their animals in the traditional way where their farm animals were let loose over a large area of farm and allowed to reproduce naturally. Over recent years, a new system of rearing livestock has come into existence which is more popularly known as Factory Farming. Factory Farming makes use of extremely intensive procedures through the use of which poultry, cattle and other livestockare kept indoors under rigid controlled settings. Since this technique has gained much popularity into how foodis being produced in America, it is also one of the most debated and controversial concepts. While it is true that using this modern method to produce meatand dairy one can expect greater productivity at a swifter rate, the question still remains at what cost? Food manufacturers in America claim that Factory Farming is a much cheaper way of processing meat and other food items where they are able to increase their margins as well as provide the consumers with cheaper food. However, current research on the effects of factory farming suggests that the method is one of the best examples of animal cruelty (Park). The conditions that the animals... In the first line, Allen says he is outraged, and that is why is crying out to the world to stop the destruction of a generation. In general, Allen is crying about the oppression and subjugation in the society. The speaker in the poem appears to be smart. The speaker s words do not come out in a proper order which makes the reader imagine that he was from a long sleep and he has been awakened by the reality of things and he wants us to join him through his lane and tell us what he saw. Will we be able to provide for all the needs of the child? Will we be able to instill the needed values for the child to grow as an upstanding person? How can we be the right type of parents and should we do it the American or the Filipino way? These are the discussions that we have every time the topic of child rearing comes to mind. We are almost in our thirties, so this is an eventuality that is getting closer and closer. There is an enormous amount of information about parentingstyles. According to Baumrind there are four styles of parenting, which are, authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting (as cited in Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). Authoritarian parenting means you exercise a lot of control over the child with little to no concern for the child s opinion. The parents establish strict guidelines for the child with the threat of repercussions if not followed. Authoritative parenting combines a fair degree of parental control with being warm and responsive to children ( Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). In Chicago, the family attended a Mennonite church that was intentionally interracial (Huffman). The church has both white and black pastors and a strongly diverse congregation. As mentioned before, early experiences with racial equality also colored Carolyn s thoughts on genderequality. Though heavily exposed to issues of racial equality at that age, gender equality was still far off. We grew up with the idea that the man was the head of the household. They would pull these ugly verses out of the Bible and tell you them. It took me a long time to kind of figure out why or maybe to justify my position, I m not sure which why I think what I think. • 25. Biomass As A Renewable Energy Resource 3Biomass as a renewable energy resource Biomass can be considered as a renewable energy resource, although burning biomass releases carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere similar to burning fossil fuel (Liu H. 2011). There is a significant difference in CO2 release between burning a fossil fuel and burning biomass. Burning a fossil fuel releases CO2 that has been locked up for millions of years in the ground, affecting the natural CO2 cycle and resulting in an increase in the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Burning biomass simply return to the atmosphere the same amount of CO2 which was absorbed from the air via the photosynthesis process while the biomass plant was growing over a relatively short period of time (a few years to decade), and there is no net release of C02 into the atmosphere, i.e., CO2 neutral, if the cycle of growth and harvest is sustained. Therefore, biomass can consider as a renewable energy resource as shown in Figure 3.1 (Li u H. 2011). If the production and transportation of the biomass fuel involve the use of fossil fuel, there would become net release of CO2 with biomass combustion (Liu H. 2011) Figure 3.1 Biomass is a renewable energy resource (Liu H. 20 11) In fact, real biomass energy production systems are differing from the ideal carbon cycle shown in Figure 3.1 in two important ways. In at the cemetery, walnut grove plantation, south carolina, 1989, by Lucille Clifton, the purpose is to expose the injustice that has happened to the dead slaves. The slaves were buried without any gravestone and the women were not even counted when the owner of the plantation wrote down his inventory. This injustice is what pushed Lucille Clifton to write this poem. In the poem, Clifton attempts to draw attention to the fact that the honor was taken from the slaves, after their deaths, and Clifton tries to restore the honor that was stolen from the slaves. However, in Ain t I a Woman the purpose was to expose the inequalities of an African Americanwoman during Truth s life. In Truth s speech she mentions how other women should be lifted over ditches, helped into carriages, and have the best place but she gets none of this. Truth is comparing how other women are treated to how she is treated. This best shows Truth s purpose of exposing the inequality between African American women and other groups of people. Clouds of atomic gas cool and condense, forming cold, dense clouds of molecular gas. Within these clouds of cold gas, stars can form. • 39. Analysis of Fernando Botero s Style Fernando Botero s style is arguably one of the most distinctive of artists still alive today. Embracing a sweeping aesthetic that attempts to celebrate the vivacity of life with seemingly disproportionately enlarged figures, Botero s style celebrates an assortment of riotous colors while alternating between scenes of his native Columbia and social political themes (Haas). An examination of the development of Botero s style indicates that it has a number of disparate sources and influences which informed the artist, who ultimately refined and merged them with characteristics from his own life to render works that are inimitably his own. An analysis of key works of artistry from Botero support the hypothesis that his larger than life style of paintingand sculpture was conceived of as a means of conveying the richness and complexity of the events, feelings and actions that constitute the scope of life itself. Botero s merging of different styles of art to form his own is probably best documented by the formal training he received in this discipline. He travelled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, and the United States while attending educational institutions and absorbing local methods and themes of art work. Although he studied at Sapin s San Fernando Academy and spent a substantial amount of time in Paris, it was his education at Florence s Academy of San Marcos would create the most significant impact on his future creations. The notion that the gender constructs of male and female are meant to be binary opposing cause conflict as all individuals will have crossed between these definitions on occasions. This is evident through examining the contemporary machinations of the Heavy Metal genre. The narration of the song lyrically delves into the concept of lust, propelling this notion of masculinity. Therefore, this creates an identity crisis for males which of whom do not fit within the emotionless and fornication obsessed archetype. This outlook on the lust also remains within the realm of heterosexuality which also indirectly degrades a homosexual male s identification with the concept of masculinity. A sense of violence could also be determined through the lyrics, I see you cold, I feel you heartless. This double entendre could be interpreted as a materialistic view of the protagonist towards the female or refer to the protagonist murdering the female character. The ideal of masculinity, in regard to the careless attitude towards women, does not alter regardless of which interpretation of this figurative language the audience perceives. Why did he die at such a young age? From that moment there have been many studies focusing on explaining his death. One hypothesis is that Aye could be accountable for Tutankamun s death on the basis of jealousness, need for power and forcing his way into the throne. Doctors and scientists performed different types of studies attempting to determine if the Boy King was murdered, sick with any chronic illness or infection, or any other cause of death. In one of these studies, an x ray revealed there was a blow in the head. Allegedly it didn t kill him right away but short time after he mysteriously died. The image showed what could have been a hematoma at the lower base of the skull, probably caused by a blow to the back of the head. (The Death of King Tut: Was it murdered?) . This blow to the back of the head could support the hypothesis of King Tutankhamun being murdered. When the Brady debate was in full swing in Congress about three years ago, I was still back in my country, Japan, where the possession of guns is strictly restricted by laws. This party division was not so surprising, however, considering the huge campaign contributions made by the chief gun lobby, the National Rifle Association (NRA), directed mostly to the Republicans, and the exception of the Southern Democrats could be explained by the gun right supportive nature of their constituents. In the 1992 election for example, this organization made $1.7 million contribution to its sympathetic congressional candidates and spent another $870,000 in independent expenditures for congressional races.1 The influence the NRA exercised on the legislation was enormous since the final bill passed in 1993 was a compromise version reflecting some of the NRA sought provisions. This is a detrimental 2 4 week cycle of designing clothes, manufacturing it, producing mass quantities of it, and spreading it throughout the world in stores like H M, Forever 21, Zara, ASOS, and many other brands. These brands usually all get mass quantities of clothes from closely related sweatshops from countries where labor is cheap, and where safety laws and ethical human rights are not enforced: china, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bangladesh. We thought this was a safe stock to purchase because it was a top 20 company in the 2013 Fortune 500 list as well as operating in an industry that has been in great demand by the American population as it is aging rapidly. Another conclusion that we arrived while discussing the possible purchases was that the company operates only in the US, so it had a great opportunity to seize the market of overweight Americans who suffer from several diseases related to this problem, and have to buy one or several medications at times. Most women who sought abortions during the first decades of the 1800s were young and unmarried. They aborted their illegitimate pregnancies to preserve their reputation in society and their prospect of marriage (Mohr p. 16 17).
