Socioeconomic considerations in marine resource management
This document discusses the importance of considering socioeconomic factors in marine resource management. Economic variables are often included in the biological model that suggests the relationship between sustainable revenue, fishing cost and fishing effort.
For more than 50 years, it has been generally accepted that the fishing sector stood to gain from managing fisheries at the effort level producing maximum economic yield rather than maximum sustainable yield, which occurs at a higher effort level.
Surplus production models are also called as Holistic models. This model deals with total stock biomass along with fishing effort and yield. To operate this model, catch and effort data are needed as input data. These models could be computed with less input data unlike analytic models. This model does not take into account age and growth. Hence, it could be safely applied to tropical stocks, where calculation of age of tropical fish is more cumbersome.

Fishery management in The Gambia is still not operating optimally due to a lack of fisheries management infrastructure.This study has uncovered important aspects of the fishing industry, especially in The Gambia. If the right policies and guidelines are put in place, the majority of waste and the depletion of renewable resources might be avoided. It is possible to maximize utilities without wasting resources. The solutions of the total cost TC , total revenue TR , and price functions of an operation are all given using differential equation.The original equation of Schaefers model forced numerous researchers to shed light on the spatial distribution of fish and fisheries. Using a cost operation model and an analysis of the rate of change over time, the author of this study found that fishing expenses can be decreased without compromising effectiveness or efficiency. The model was also expanded to include non autonomous price and cost characteristics.This study will inspire other academics and researchers to take similar actions to stop the decline and near extinction of the critically important fish fishery, not only in The Gambia but also along the entire coast of West Africa, given that the fishes are highly migratory and a shared resource among the countries in the subregion. Qualitative prioritization - Tim Kelley
The ISPC conducted a qualitative prioritization exercise to provide expert scientific guidance for new CRP investments. They surveyed donors and experts to rate sub-IDOs (intermediate development outcomes) under the CGIAR's strategic level outcomes. Donors allocated points across sub-IDOs based on organizational priorities. Experts assigned scores to sub-IDOs based on criteria like relevance and the CGIAR's comparative advantage. Results showed varying priority levels for sub-IDOs. The ISPC aims to use this qualitative prioritization to strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of CRP proposals approved for funding.

Socioeconomic considerations in marine resource management
This document discusses the importance of considering socioeconomic factors in marine resource management. It provides an overview of tools from social sciences that can be used, such as interviews, surveys and participatory research. Examples are given of projects that incorporated local ecological knowledge from fishermen into marine protected area planning in California. Additional examples describe community-based management approaches in Port Orford, Oregon and among First Nations groups in western Vancouver Island, Canada that engaged local stakeholders in fisheries management. The conclusion emphasizes that laws like the Magnuson-Stevens Act require socioeconomic impacts to communities be addressed alongside environmental concerns in management.
Separation Surplus yield model (MSY, Fmsy, MEY, Fmsy)
Economic variables are often included in the biological model that suggests the relationship between sustainable revenue, fishing cost and fishing effort.
For more than 50 years, it has been generally accepted that the fishing sector stood to gain from managing fisheries at the effort level producing maximum economic yield rather than maximum sustainable yield, which occurs at a higher effort level.
Surplus production models are also called as Holistic models. This model deals with total stock biomass along with fishing effort and yield. To operate this model, catch and effort data are needed as input data. These models could be computed with less input data unlike analytic models. This model does not take into account age and growth. Hence, it could be safely applied to tropical stocks, where calculation of age of tropical fish is more cumbersome.

With Gambia’s marine resources abundance, it is appropriate for Gambia’s economic growth to gear towards the fisheries sector. Fishery management in The Gambia is still not operating optimally due to a lack of fisheries management infrastructure.This study has uncovered important aspects of the fishing industry, especially in The Gambia. If the right policies and guidelines are put in place, the majority of waste and the depletion of renewable resources might be avoided. It is possible to maximize utilities without wasting resources. The solutions of the total cost TC , total revenue TR , and price functions of an operation are all given using differential equation.The original equation of Schaefers model forced numerous researchers to shed light on the spatial distribution of fish and fisheries. Using a cost operation model and an analysis of the rate of change over time, the author of this study found that fishing expenses can be decreased without compromising effectiveness or efficiency. The model was also expanded to include non autonomous price and cost characteristics.This study will inspire other academics and researchers to take similar actions to stop the decline and near extinction of the critically important fish fishery, not only in The Gambia but also along the entire coast of West Africa, given that the fishes are highly migratory and a shared resource among the countries in the subregion. Qualitative prioritization - Tim Kelley
The ISPC conducted a qualitative prioritization exercise to provide expert scientific guidance for new CRP investments. They surveyed donors and experts to rate sub-IDOs (intermediate development outcomes) under the CGIAR's strategic level outcomes. Donors allocated points across sub-IDOs based on organizational priorities. Experts assigned scores to sub-IDOs based on criteria like relevance and the CGIAR's comparative advantage. Results showed varying priority levels for sub-IDOs. The ISPC aims to use this qualitative prioritization to strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of CRP proposals approved for funding.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
