Technology and Me My timeline of educational technology
The Basics My name is Daniel Toyooka-Lim I started school in 1991 in Honolulu I graduated from high school in 2004 in Moanalua I first went to college at UH-Manoa in 2004 When I finish my degree, I hope to become a music director.
What is Education Technology? To me, education technology is the term used to encompass the tools available to us as teachers to provide our students the best learning environment possible in hopes of hitting the three C’s: collaboration, competition, and cooperation with their peers all over the world.

Kindergarten technology Had very old computers. One per classroom Oregon Trail!!! Typing games Most technology was through television watching education shows such as “Music Factory”
High school technology More computers but only used for internet research. Closed circuit Television for Morning reports and other announcements No use of television for educational purposes
College technology Laptops are now a common tool in the classroom (mandatory in COE) TV has disappeared from education except for some TV classes available on Olelo through UHCC locations.
A vivid technology learning experience Watching music lessons and science experiments on television during elementary school Learning how to type on computer programs Computerized testing for GT placement exams SAT and PRAXIS on computers Online collaboration possible
A technology I want to use in my classroom Electronic Music Stands – Save paper! No one can “lose” their music! No noisy page turns!!! Clean note-taking capabilities!
My vision of the classroom of the future Pop quizzes in text messages! High use of e-mail to and from parents Much less use of perishable resources such as paper
A challenge for teaching Money! Where can I find some? Cutbacks to education by state governments Little money going to other things such as smaller supplies and books, not frivolous items like computers
Words of wisdom I’m not a fan of technology. I’m a fan of pedagogy, of understanding how people learn and the most effective learning methods. But technology enables some exciting changes.” -Donald A. Norman
