use of head movements and the pinnae. 202 participant s ranging from 18 25 years of
age were seated in a chair and where tested on their sound localization in four

Coelho writes a beautiful and moving legend of the boy s journey and
enlightenment. I did find the title rather odd. There is an alchemist in the novel
whom the shepherd boy meets and who, indeed, helps him in many ways and
actually sort of makes the shepherd boy into an alchemist himself. But the use of
the definite article the in the title seems a bit confusing. It would seem, on Coelho
s account, that anyone who actually achieves his or her Personal Legend becomes
an alchemist, changing the baser life we have from birth into the gold of our own
Personal Success. But this is a journey upon which any person may embark. On the
other hand Coelho seems right to me in bringing in the influential alchemist whom
the boy meets in the north African desert. I think most of us who have seriously
undertaken this journey meet people along the way who teach us and inspire us
toward this mysterious and even occult route toward our Personal Legend. I m 70

In relation to the story, Belisa, a poor, poverty stricken is known to be well below

Mary Oliver, a Pulitzer Prize winning author/poet, uses her essay Of Power and
Time describes to readers the creative process that goes along with writing, and the
obstacles associated with it (Poetry). She then explores various contexts in which
creativity exists, or should/should not exist. Although many readers can appreciate
what Oliver has to offer, she mainly directs her writingtowards people who yearn for
creativitybut cannot find the time to develop it. Oliver uses a specific word choice,
anomalous organization, elaborate analogies, bias, and a connection to religion in
order to convey the idea that creativity takes time and effort. The word choice Oliver
uses is very specific to this essay and her argument.
Throughout her writing, she uses very descriptive language in her various
analogies. Some examples of this are silver morning, white spider belly, stained
with light, etc (Oliver 620 623). This vivid language allows readers to visualize and
get the full effect of Oliver s main idea. She also uses poetic language at moments,
which makes sense with her very successful poetry background, which includes

believe that most anything can be put on a spectrum like so, grading something on
its intention and execution. Levels of Americanness in American literature is no
exception to this idea. We are able to break down each piece of American literature
and categorize it accordingly first degree Americanness, second degree, or third
degree to better understand the author s reasoning behind their writing (or lack
thereof) or how and why they wrong, and how this data might compare with other
pieces within the same category. With this concept in mind, I m going to be
