Dalida Research Paper
In a career that spanned four decades, 30 years, 1,000 songs, and earned her more than 90 gold and
platinum records, Egyptian–born and French–residing pop singer Dalida lived a fascinating and
tragic life of celebrity. After her breakout in 1956, Dalida's breathtaking beauty and distinctive voice
made her an instant star, which gave her all the riches and spoils one could hope for, but amplified
her vulnerabilites and weaknesses which fame and success exploited.
Directed by Liza Azuelos (LOL), the film tells the singer's story in a non–linear way, beginning with
her lying to her brother in a French airport in 1967, then secretly heading to a Parisian hotel. She is
reeling from the recent suicide of her lover, burgeoning Italian pop singer Luigi Tenco, and has
decided to attempt to take her own life. Not successful, she then is moved to a facility and doctors
bring in those closest to her to learn more about her struggles.
We traverse through her life at a relatively rapid speed, making Dalida a film that quickly becomes a
highlight reel of a subject's life. Born Iolanda Gigliotti, she was bullied and rejected by her peers in
grade school and saw her family persecuted during World War II. Her vocal talents soon emerged
and in her early 20's she was discovered by radio station magnate Lucien Morisse (NAME). So
taken with one another, Morisse left his wife for Iolanda and began managing her career.
Once stardom begin to swirl around Dalida, her rise is rather meteoric and

Sacco And Vanzetti Analysis
Sometimes words cannot exactly explain what we want to convey, so we need a visual to support it.
A similar thing was observed in the article of Alan M. Dershowitz, he cleverly makes use of Ben
Shah's painting in the article to grab the attention of folks. The author writes about a murder case of
a paymaster and a guard of the South Braintree by Sacco and Vanzetti, both were Italian immigrant
anarchists. Surprisingly, the truth was not revealed that whether Sacco and Vanzetti were the killers
and this case is still unsolved. I agree with the author that the trials could not get to the fair results. I
believe that the painting is an ironic symbol of the justice. It silently expresses a lot what the text
can't. I think the painting adds words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A hidden symbol for the injustice, very cleverly used by Ben Shahn, was lilies. In an online
webpage, Ben Shahn says, "As a well–known symbol of the crucified Christ, the lilies also suggest
that Sacco and Vanzetti are martyrs, punished for sins they did not commit" (Shahn, Ben. The
Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti 1931–32. New York. http://collection.whitney.org/object/1022
Accessed October 2016). It is clear from this line that the two sentenced people were innocent and
were the victims of the power of high–class gentlemen. Former are stated as martyrs because they
were not the murderers instead they had been murdered by the unfair trials held by wealthy

Video games in Hollywood
Super Mario Bros, Doom, BloodRayne, and Mortal Kombat. These are all great, classic, or
memorable video games in their own right, but their silver screen counterparts? Not so much. Why
though? Why is it that video games can not translate into the same box office success that has been
experienced by comic books and novels since the early 2000s? I have identified four crucial reasons
why video games will never see the same commercial success as other mediums have: video games
are not respected as an art form, Hollywood does not understand gaming, video games are difficult
to translate from an interactive to non–interactive medium, and unqualified directors, who are
unfamiliar with both video games and the source material from which they are adapting from.
Besides a few select directors such a Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson, Hollywood generally views
gaming as a novelty in its infancy and gamers as a select demographic to profit from. Since video
games are viewed less seriously compared to novels or other artistic mediums, they have been
treated as such. By definition, video games cannot be considered art, as they are inherently popular,
while art serves to appeal to a niche audience. Video games as an art form have been debated
feverishly in the past decade, with the general consensus being that video game are not an art form
but an extension of artistic expression or at the very best, art in a non–traditional sense. Roger Ebert
argued that due to the nature of video games they

What Is The Role Of Communism In The 1920s
In the early 1920s' America, threats of communism were everywhere. With the recent overthrow of
the Russian ruler, panic started to set in. Americans were scared of this because the Communists
showed how powerful they really were. Even though World War I in Germany ended, a new war
started, turning in a new direction. It became a war against "... anything un–American – which in
1919 meant radical or red" (Palmer Raids). A communist party formed in the United States, reaching
a peak of seventy thousand members. Almost immediately after the government found out about
this, the Committee of Public Information started pouring out propaganda promoting the American
way of democracy. This sparked the beginning of the Red Scare. Being a scary moment in American
history, Alexander Mitchell Palmer tried to take matters into his own hands by killing and deporting
thousands of Americans. It was during Woodrow Wilson's presidency, 1913–1921 when communism
started to spread in America. Because he was president, citizens started to blame him for the
communist takeover. The citizens of the United States felt immigrants were bringing communism
into our country because of the political loyalty they were believed to have. The two ethnicities that
were mostly targeted were the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to fire the Assistant Secretary of Labor, Post. Wilson refused to fire him and stood up for him. The
president stuck around until the end to speak with Palmer. President Wilson told him to not let this
country see red. That means he did not want to see communism take over as well. It does not mean,

Theme Of Fate In Frankenstein
The Story of Fate and Omen:Frankenstein 'What may not be expected in a country of eternal

brief summary of 19th century world.19th century has been a climax in terms of love of science
since The Renaissance when people discovered themselves and became a light. In order to reflect
this enlightenment into the society, literature has always been an instrument.Social structure is
dynamic.Changes and developments in social structure are prominently seen in literary ideas and

A Synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author
A synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author Luigi Pirandello's play, Six Characters in
Search of an Author, starts out in an empty auditorium with several Actors and their Director
preparing for rehearsal when the Six Characters walk onto the stage of the actors' rehearsal in search
of a new author. The Father, on behalf of the Six Characters, claims that they, as individuals are
incomplete, because their previous author could not finish his work. Shortly thereafter the Father
and the Stepdaughter begin to tell the family's story, which is as follows. The Father and Mother
were once married, but when the Father found out that the Mother loved his assistant he let her go.
The Family of Six Characters consists of the Father, the Mother, and four children. The Son, who is
the only child of the Father and Mother, is sent off to the country to become a man. The
Stepdaughter, the Little Boy, and the Little Girl are all the children that the mother had with her
paramour during her affair. Her lover subsequently dies and the Mother, with her children, move
back to the city where the Stepdaughter finds work at a brothel where the Father is unknowingly
reacquainted the Stepdaughter. It is unknown whether or not the two actually have sex, but it is
believed that the two figure out that they are family before things get too far. After hearing their
story the Director implores his company to act out the Family's story, which the Stepdaughter finds
humorous because she

Video Game Reflection Paper
When I was little, I loved to try lots of new things. Games, toys, candy; but I had never heard of
video games. Until one day on the bus, my neighbor told me that he had a Wii. I had seen
commercials for it, and it looked fun. Originally I never wanted one because it was so expensive.
That night when I went over to his house, my life would never be the same. Later that day I went
over to his house. Ordinarily we run around, shoot each other with face guns, and do other things
like that. I was getting antsy though, so we went inside after only 45 minutes. We got inside and
then I saw it, the white Wii sitting on the entertainment center next to the TV. "What games do you
have?" I asked.
"The only game I have is Mario Kart," he replied, so that is what we played. Since I had never
played it before I was terrible. Three games in a row, I got 12th out of 12. After, about an hour of
playing I started to notice that I was passing the computers (other racers) and getting 7th–4th place
on average. Nevertheless, I soon had to leave, but I was much better than when I started.
Besides having so much fun on the Wii, I rarely got to play on it. I had played on it here and there,
but not a lot. I kept asking my parents for a Wii, they only said no, but then when it got closer to
Christmas they started to tantalize me by answering with "maybe for Christmas." That got me very
excited. That year I was probably on my best behavior ever. On the day of Christmas I kind of forgot

How To Dissect The Human Body?
The late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Europe were an explosion of modern
advancement as the Industrial Revolution took hold. The development of large industrialized cities
brought about a change in attitude regarding progress that allowed modern scientists to look further
into nature for solutions to everyday qualms. At the forefront of the innovational age was the
discovery of electricity and the beginning of its experimentation for both practical and scientific
purposes. Concepts similar to electricity had been debated in ancient societies, however the human
mind was never able to capture it until the beginning of the nineteenth century. Experimentation
with electricity caused controversy throughout Europe as results came ... Show more content on

Soon after Galvani published his findings in 1891 Alessandro Volta proposed that the "'animal' part
of Galvani's animal electricity was not needed" (Alessandro n.pag). Volta instead believed in what
he called metallic electricity. He alleged that all that was need to generate electricity was any moist
material between two different metals (Voltaic n.pag). However, by this time Galvani's theory held
wide acceptance due to public demonstrations. To support his claims, in 1800, Volta built what is
now known as the voltaic pile, which would come to be known as the first electric battery (Montillo
56). The voltaic pile used the natural transfer of electrons between two metallic elements to establish
an electric current that could be directed through a wire. With the help of his voltaic pile, Volta
successfully disproved Galvani's theory of animal electricity (Parent 578). Scientists of the time
began to use the voltaic pile as a source of electricity for experimentation with galvanism soon after

The Tale Of Mario And Luigi's Adventures In The Beanbean...
Does the main game hold up? You bet it does! The tale of Mario & Luigi's adventures in the
Beanbean Kingdom is still hilarious and in my eyes was well worth playing through once again. At a
good 8–10 hours depending on your experience and how much of the side content you wish to
partake in, the game is somewhat simpler than its successors, but less gimmicky as a result.
The most obvious difference compared to the original is the shift from purely 2D sprites to more
textured visuals found in more recent instalments. These are as appealing as they can be, but the
thing that truly impressed me was the use of shadows and lighting in darker areas to make the
visuals pop out. It's a neat effect that to the best of my knowledge isn't really found ... Show more

There is also a dedicated button to allow both Mario Bros. to jump normally without the need to
swap back to the standard jump icon. It's an absolute godsend, eliminating a major gripe I had with
the original.
As for new combat features, the timing for pressing buttons for moves has been made demonstrably
clearer, even giving the button combinations on the bottom screen before selecting the attack, as
well as the ability to practice. These were features present in more modern Mario & Luigi games,
but are welcome here.
Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser is a brand new storyline added to the remake that runs
concurrently to the main quest, giving us the perspective of a lowly minion on a search for Bowser.
Along the way you'll also encounter characters from the main story and you'll be treated to what
they've been up to while off screen. This mode opens up to the player pretty early after hitting a
certain spot in the main game and presents a completely different playstyle. The goal is to find
Bowser, but in order to do so you'll be thrown into battles with brainwashed minions that have fallen
under Fawful's control. There are three types of minions; ranged, melee, and flying, each with a
strength and weakness. Melee is strong against ranged, ranged is strong against flying, and flying is
strong against melee, which results in a rock, paper, scissors rule set.

Immigration Through The Late 1800 's And Early 1900 ' S
Immigration through out the late 1800's and early 1900's created nativism throughout the United
States. Millions of immigrants flocked to the United States trying to find a better way of life to be
able to support their families. Industrialization in the United States provided a labor source for the
immigrants. Native born Americans believed immigrants were a "threat to the American way of life"
(ATF chapter 11) Social and economic fault lines developed between natives and immigrants,
through out the late 1800's and early 1900's, going unnoticed until the late 1920's when the Sacco
and Vanzetti case brought awareness of issue to much of the United States. Nicola Sacco and
Bartolomeo Vanzetti "two obscure Italian aliens, became the focal point of one of the most
controversial episodes in American history";(ATF CH11p257) when they were arrested on May 5,
1920 for "suspicious character" and connection with the Slater Morrill Shoe Company robbery.
Sacco and Vanzetti were arrested carrying hunting weapons and extra ammunition on the way to
pick up Mike Boba's car, which was believed to have connected them to robbery of the Slater
Morrill Shoe Company that had occurred on April 15, 1920. Sacco and Vanzetti's actions depicted
"the kind of foreign menace American nativist most feared" (ATF chapter 11p 270), making them
prime suspects for the robbery. However the lack of evidence that existed to convict Sacco and
Vanzetti lead to the exposure of the fault lines that existed

With Occupy Wall Street gaining headway and the country seeing greater inequality than ever,
anarchists and socialists protested in the streets of Lower Manhattan's "Corner" in a rage at the

New York were all but tranquil. Because the majority of the wealth among a few happened at the
expense of laborers and echoed with Americans, its result lead to terrorism (King 2011).
On September 16, 1920, an explosion tore through the streets of Lower Manhattan's "Corner". The

Research Paper On Luigi Pirandello
Many people are inspired by things that occur in their life or things they witness, which tends to
motivate them to do something or express an experience in someway. Luigi Pirandello always said
¨Nature uses human imagination to lift her work of creation to even higher levels¨ ("Luigi Pirandello

was an Italian dramatist, novelist, poet, and short story writer whose greatest contributions were his
plays. Pirandello was mostly inspired by individual desires, physiological issues, and struggles

The parents soon learn in this story that there's no reason to be concerned because it's their children's
choice not theirs. Pirandello relates to this because as World War I was going on his son Stefano was

novel tells about a concerned Sicilian mother pining for her two sons who have emigrated to Sante

walking away from their village, in hopes to find her sons. This deals with community issues and
the fact that people are emigrating in and out of the community. Pirandello honored the

Summary Of Chapter 11 Sacco And Vanzetti
Chapter 11, Saco and Vanzetti, in After the Fact begins with a story of an armed robbery in a bank
and an armed robbery and murder to a man on the side of the road in Massachusetts during the time
of the nativist mood in America. The Braintree and Bridgewater crimes, in 1919 and 1920, seemed
to show a patterned and drew attention to Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Sacco and
Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists, where were soon arrested for the crimes. After a long trial,
suspicious evidence and six years of appeals the two were convicted and sentenced to the electric
chair. Moving on in the chapter we are introduced to another story, around the same time as the
previous one, of employers going on strike and radicals creating an uprising in the labor industries.
These strikes lead to anarchist bombings lead by Luigi Galleani who was also an Italian immigrant
like Sacco and Vanzetti. These bombs were sent to the houses of Generals, Supreme Court Justices,
members of Congress and mayors. Not during the time of Sacco's and Vanzetti's trial but later the

The Role Of Hardware And Software Improved Over Time
Since the release of Donkey Kong in 1981, platforming–based video games have been concerned
with reaching a goal. From the early 1980s to the late 1990s, obtaining the objective fell under a
linear, two–point process. For example, in "Super Mario Bros," the player must guide the plumber to
a flagpole in order to complete a level. Once the player completes the thirty–second stage, he
achieves the substantial goal of saving the princess. In contrast to the "Mega Man" series, the hero
must annihilate eight robot masters before defeating a diabolical, mad scientist. Essentially, the
player is tasked to complete an underlying objective before moving to the ultimate goal. However,
as the aspects of hardware and software improved over time, game ... Show more content on

The film is broken down into three attempts. While the events in the plot changes in each run, the
two–point process is still embedded with the same exact goal. Lola must obtain the money (the
preliminary goal) and deliver it to Manni (the ultimate goal¬). In order to explain what I mean, I will
break down the first run followed by a summary of the second run. In the first run, Lola starts by
running out of her apartment building via an animated sequence, passing a man and his dog. Then,
the film transitions back to live action, where Lola is sprinting on the streets. Suddenly, she bumps
into a woman and her baby carriage. After a rushed apology, Lola runs along the side of a bicyclist
who attempts to sell his bike to the protagonist. She refuses and keeps sprinting. As she gets closer
to her bank (in hopes of accomplishing the preliminary goal), she nearly gets hit by a car, causing a
crash due to distracted driving. While Lola rushes into the bank, her father asks a mistress if he
wants to have a baby with him. Suddenly, and to her father's surprise, Lola enters her father's office
and asks for one–hundred thousand German marks. However, in this one scene alone, Lola meets
the mistress, learns that the mistress is pregnant, and finally knows that her father is not biologically
related to her and that he plans to elope with the mistress. Lola's emotions

Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti Essay
The Sacco and Vanzetti Murder Trial
The murder trial of the Italians known as Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was one of the most
controversial events during the 1920's. The execution of the Italians by electric chair was wrongfully
convicted given that there wasn't enough evidence to prove that Sacco and Vanzetti were responsible
for the armed robbery. In fact, many commentators say that they were executed mainly for their
political views and not for their "so called" actions. In my opinion, the trial was never properly
handled and they should have never been executed or at least not given a real chance to defend
themselves.
On april 15, 1920 an armed robbery took place in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Two businessmen
were moving a $15,000 payroll to different location when an automobile with two men inside
showed up, shot them both and drove away. This is where it all starts, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo
Vanzetti are blamed for a crime they were never a part of. I believe the police department assumed
they were guilty for two major reasons. 1) Mr. Sacco owned a gun of the same type that was used in

criminals who liked to get away with their crimes. At this time, Sacco and Vanzetti were
interrogated and pressured to confess a crime they had nothing to do with. The big disadvantage of

Sacco Vs Vanzetti
Upon his death sentence, Bartolomeo Vanzetti said, "I wish to tell you that I am an innocent man. I
never committed any crime but sometimes some sin. I wish to forgive some people for what they are
now doing to me." On August 23, 1927, two innocent men were executed by electrocution in
Boston. Those two men were Sacco and Vanzetti, who were treated unjustly for prejudiced reasons.
Both men supported anarchist groups that promoted warfare against the government. Sacco and
Vanzetti received an unfair trial because of their radical political views, tainted witnesses in court,
and denial of a new trial.

While the police were looking for evidence to use against Sacco they found a cap and claimed that it
was his. He denied owning the cap, and so they had him try it on infront of the jury. He repeatedly
said the cap did not fit (Linder). As the court was trying to find evidence against Vincetti they could
not come up with anything stable. So, in front of the court he said this, "Eugene Debs say that not
even a dog –– something like that –– not even a dog that kill the chickens would have been found
guilty by American jury with the evidence that Commonwealth have produced against us. I say that
not even a leprous dog would have his appeal refused two times by the Supreme Court of
Massachusetts –– not even a leprous dog" ("Sacco and Vanzetti Case"). Although some say the trial
was fair there are still a lot of people who believe it was not. Three months after the executions of
Sacco and Vanzetti the state of Massachusetts passed a law stating, "in any case in which a
defendant has been convicted of murder in the first degree, the Supreme Judicial Court must review
both the law and the evidence" ("Sacco & Vanzetti: Justice"). Also, in 1977 Massachusetts Governor
Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation claiming that Sacco and Vanzetti had been treated unjustly.
Furthermore the case is still debated a lot today because it is a perfect example of domination over

Reanimated Chickens And Zombies
Most of the time when you think of the word zombie, you think of a walking corpse that will eat
your face as soon as it gets the chance. What if we thought of zombies as an animal that is brought
back from the dead? Well, in that case, zombies have been around for a while. According to David
Casarett, author of Reanimated Chickens and Zombie Dogs, for over two–hundred years, scientist
have pushed relentlessly at life's terminus, trying to find new ways to bring people back from the
dead when their hearts stop. There are many scientist that even grew famous for these discoveries,
theories and experiments. There are a few that may be disturbing to some readers, but they are worth
the mention.

David Casarett, there are many ways to preserve life after cardiac arrest. He says that all this
research has led to most things used today that keep us alive longer. One of these things were
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh's Safar Center chilling dogs at a very low temperature
that helped keep them alive after cardiac arrest. He states that these studies have led to clinical trials
that are designed to save patients who wouldn't survive with conventional treatment. Although these
experiments are terrifying, downright disgusting, and in complete violation of animal rights, they
have led to recent studies on how to prolong human life. It is up to the reader to decide if it is
justifiable and to decide if it is worth experimenting on one's life to obtain knowledge to prolong
another's. All–in–all, it is something to keep you up at night to think about how many zombie dogs

Why Is Mario An Animal Abuser?
Good afternoon everyone. Today I'm going to talk about Mario from Super Mario Brothers. As Peter
Abelard the French philosopher said, "By doubting we are led to question, by questioning we arrive
at the truth." Today, I doubt Mario. Try to think of a word which describes Mario. Most of you, if
not all, may think of the word "hero". But no, behind that mustache is a truly evil man. In doing
research for this topic, I've gone through screens of Mario's video games, and as I continue to do my
research, I've discovered that Mario isn't that simple. There are tons of crimes that he's done. But
today, only three reasons will persuade you, he is an animal abuser, he is an unloving brother, and he
is a remorseless murderer. let's start to unmask Mario. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So every brick Mario bricks are actually toads he should be protecting! And the game even rewards

The way he kills is very gruesome. Letting the full weight onto the victim's head and body, crushing
all the bones, squishing everything inside out. Did that make you uncomfortable? If you do, then
that's good! Because it's normal for people to react that way! You know who doesn't? Mario. In fact,
he is happy when he leaps from a flattened corpse onto the next victim, yelling ya–hoo and ya–hi as
he kills, showing his joy. He has no sense of guilt. The game rewards players points too when they

Even Soldiers forced to kill on the battlefields often suffer from PTSD. You know who else doesn't

The North End Of Boston
Immigrants were thought to be the problem. That is why Danny in the novel is set to investigate the
North End of Boston as the waves of Italian immigrants were seens as some of the main terrorists.
This was also true in reality. In the early nineteen twenties there is the infamous trial of Nicola
Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. These two men were reported of killing employees of a shoe
factory. They were in fact both Italian Immigrants and socialist. The fact they were socialists created
a strong bias where they received capital punishment in nineteen twenty seven. In 1916 italian
immigrants also bombed the boston police station so there is already resenment to the immigrants.

In nineteen nineteen New York Times reported 2 anarchist that were denied entrance to the united
states, 37 were deported and 55 were awaiting deportation.1 This very much echos how many
families are denied entrance to America during modern times. This resemblance is uncanny and
when looking at this Americans can still see that it did not stop socialist and anarchist extremest.
Perhaps Americans should look at their own history to guide them into the future and explain the
present. One of the other largest factors in "The Given Day" is race relations. Here the reader sees
an oddly peculiar situation for the early twentieth century is the friendship of a black male and a
white cop. The newly founded NAACP is often mention throughout the given day. The NAACP
supports and promotes African American culture and protection in the United States. Early on they
also protected the rights of black workers as well. The NAACP played a role in protecting Luther.
The NAACP was indeed trying to protect black poor workers like Luther which in turn made police
suspicous of whether or not the NAACP was a part of the socialist and arachist movement. Add on
top of this the plentiful racial tension it is a recipe for disaster. When looking at the in depth
structural racism that the united states had its remnants still exist. There are still stereotypes.
However readers see poor blacks and poor whites working together. This is not uncommon and has
been a threat to American

The Red Scare: The Case Of Nicola Sacco And Bartolomeo...
The 1920's was a time when many immigrants from Europe came to the United States for new
opportunities. It estimated around 13 million immigrants entered the United States. Out of those 13
million immigrants, most came from Southern and Eastern Europe. The effect of World War I left
many Americans despised the idea of new people coming to their country. This was called the Red
Scare, were many Americans believed that these immigrants were bringing ideas towards anarchism
and cause a revolution. The dislikement and discrimination towards immigrants affected them and

The victims were Frederick Parmenter and Alessandro Berardelli, a paymaster and his security
guard. The two men were working on a shoe factory called Slater and Morrill, and were handling
two boxes containing about $15,000. Two men later entered the factory and shot and killed
Parmenter and Berardelli and fled with the money. According to the article "The Case of Sacco and
Vanzetti" by Felix Frankfurter, witnesses claimed "As the murder was being committed, a car
containing several other men drew up to the spot–and were driven away at high speed across some
nearby railroad tracks." The car involved in the crime was shortly found in woods near the town of
Cochesett. At the time, the investigators believed that the crime was related to a gang and were
notified by witnesses that the men appeared to be Italian. Police found similar car tracks in Ruth
Johnson's garage were there was a car in repair and believed that anyone who fetches the car is a
suspect. The police had also advised the Johnson's to call them if anyone tries to claim the car. A
couple of days later a man by the name of Mike Boda went to go claim the car, but fled before the
police arrived. The Johnson's noted that there were two other men who accompanied Boda, but left

Wages Of Fear
The wages of fear was a fun and fantastic movie. Going into this, I realized that I wanted to watch a
film that had horror in it as well as mystery and suspense. This movie starts off with the Frenchmen
Mario, and Jo, Dutchman Bimba, and Italian Luigi being stranded in the remote town of Las
Piedras. Circled by desert, the city is connected to the outside world only by a minute airport, but
the airfare is much too expensive for the guys. There is limited opening for employment besides the
American corporation that rules the town, Southern Oil Company (SOC), which runs the nearby oil
fields and maintains a private compound in the city. SOC is speculated of immoral practices such as
overworking local employees, but the townspeople's dependence upon it ... Show more content on

Despite the risks, many of the locals enlist, seduced by the high pay off two grand per driver. This is
an absolute fortune to them, and the money is viewed by some as the only means out of their
hopeless lives. The pool of candidates is thinned down to four drivers: Mario, Bimba, and Luigi are
taken, along with a man named Smirnoff. However, he fails to emerge on the designated day, so Jo,
who knows O' Brien from his unlawful days, is replaced in his absence. The other drivers assume
that Jo assassinated Smirnoff to aid in his private hiring.
Jo and Mario move the nitroglycerin in one vehicle; Bimba and Luigi in the other, with thirty
minutes parting them to limit possible losses. The drivers are made to deal with a string of physical
and mental hindrances, including a stretch of notably rugged road called "the washboard," a
construction barrier that requires them to wobble around a rotten platform above a mountain, and a
boulder obstructing the road. Jo discovers that his nerves are not what they used to be, and the others
confront Jo about his growing weakness. Finally, Luigi and Bimba's truck detonates without
warning, annihilating them

All I've ever wanted was for my oma to be here with me holding my hand. She was funny, kind,
stern, and smart. She might have not made the best choices like to smoke or drink. But she was still
amazing. She was loved by many people expectually by me.
She was always remembered by everyone. I remember everyday I would go to her house and she
would always be standing there waiting for me. She would always play super Mario kart. We would
always play Mario kart and watch movies together. Our favorite thing to do was go ride in my papa's
truck to Safeway and listen to Sugarland. That was her favorite country band, she always loved
country and Sean Kingston.
Not only we would go to safeway to rent movies but we always went to the B and I. That was a
place we loved they had animals and all sorts of cool things to do. Her family was huge she has 8
kids many grandkids and many more people. Our family was like a herd of elephants it was so big! I
really wish she didn't smoke or drink. She was such a good woman.

The Murder And Robbery Of A Shoe Factory
In 1920, during the height of the Red Scare, a shoemaker, Nicola Sacco (1891–1927), and a fish
peddler, Bartolomeo Vanzetti (1888–1927), were accused of robbing and murdering the paymaster
and guard of a shoe company in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Known as anarchists and draft
evaders, the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Despite Sacco
's corroborated testimony that he was at the Italian consulate in Boston at the time of the murder, the
two were found guilty on the basis of witness identification and their suspicious behavior after the
murder, and were sentenced to death by Judge Webster Thayer. The trial of two Italian immigrants,
Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, grasped the entire nation. Both men were accused of murder
and robbery of a shoe factory in Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both sentenced to death for the
robbery and murder even though there was insufficient evidence. Many people strongly disagreed
with the verdict as they believed the men were innocent and were prosecuted because of their
politics.
On April 15th, 1920, in South Braintree, Massachusetts after a paymaster and a security guard who
were carrying $15,000 for a shoe company were shot and killed in cold blood by two men in a car.
The two men took the 15,000 and fled. The polices attention was directed towards Sacco and

Red Scare, KKK, Civil War Brought Fear to America
Fear "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear
is fear of the unknown."– H. P. Lovecraft. In the 1900's, fear drove America. The Red Scare was a
time when Americans were afraid of the threat of Communism. In the Sacco and Vanzetti case, two
Italian anarchists were convicted of crimes which they were clearly innocent of. The Ku Klux Klan
attempted to keep African–Americans out of positions of power and for brief time was successful.
The Red Scare, Sacco Vanzetti case and the rise of the KKK all are example of how American's fear
the unknown and what we don't understand.
After Red Scare is the term the fear of Communism in America held in the 1900's. Following World
War I, The Soviet Union, led by Joseph Stalin, began taking over countries and putting in
Communist governments. To make fear worse the Czechoslovakia was taken over by by the soviet
union having spy's inside the Czechoslovakian government as high ranking officials. This put the
fear of God in Americans because we didn't know who could have been a Communist spy sent here
by Russia destroy America."Few periods in American history have been so dramatic, so fraught with
mystery or so brothing with fear and hysteria as were the days of the great Red Scare." (Robert K.
Murray). Also we saw a rash of accusations by man named Joseph Mccarthy used his tactic of
Mccarthyism to accuse many innocent Americans of being Communist.

Sacco And Vanzetti Case Essay
The 1920's was a busy time for America. The Roaring Twenties, The Golden Twenties, The Red
Scare, and many more eras happened. The Roaring Twenties was "the era in American history
between the end of WW1 and the commencement of the Great Depression" (Alchin). During this
time, the United States prospered– there were new automobiles, fashion styles, and music styles.
The Golden Twenties was very similar to the Roaring Twenties. During the Golden Twenties, there
were social and economic reforms, artistic expressions, Berlin's Recovery, and the Women's
Liberation Movement (What). While the Roaring and Golden Twenties was a good outlook for
America, the Red Scare was not. The Red Scare "was the name given to the period of anti–radical

(Log) Many do not believe that Sacco and Vanzetti had a fair trial. The Sacco and Vanzetti trial has a
bunch of controversy behind it. The Sacco and Vanzetti Case has always been treated as one, but in
reality, the two should have had an opportunity to serve the trial together and if the two feel as if
justice was not served, then they should have been able to have separate trials. Before being
executed, Vanzetti left the courtroom with "In all my life I have never stole, never killed never
spilled blood.... We were tried during a time ... when there was hysteria of resentment and hate
against the people of our principles, against the foreigner.... I am suffering because I am a radical
and indeed I am a radical; I have suffered because I was an Italian and indeed I am an Italian.... If
you could execute me two times, and if I could be reborn two other times, I would live again to do
what I have done already" (Danzer 414). This quote shows that Vanzetti is innocent. "Moore did his
best to turn Sacco and Vanzetti into archetypal working men with whom he hoped large segments of
the blue–collar community might identify. He even tried to arouse international interest in the case,
especially in Italy. The tactics showed early signs of working. Groups such as the New England
Civil Liberties Union soon joined the fight, sending to its supporters a letter declaring that the
evidence against Sacco and Vanzetti was "unsubstantial" and that they were being prosecuted merely
because they were "foreigners and are active and influential radicals." (User) This quote shows how
the defense attorney blames the prosecution on their race. In one article it says "Moore alleged that
Proctor testified that he found "Bullet 3" consistent with having been fired from Sacco's Colt despite
having confided earlier to District Attorney Katzmann that he did not believe "Bullet 3" came from
the defendant's gun. Judge Thayer

Leo Frank Trial Essay
While Frank died maintaining his innocence, definitive proof of his innocence was never uncovered.
Frank underwent an unjust trial and ultimately lost his life due to the racial prejudices and violence
that enticed Atlanta during this time period. Atlanta felt threatened by "outsiders" after the Civil War
and this was apparent during Frank's trial. Despite the lack of evidence against Frank, the people of
Atlanta were quick to believe the guilt of a northern Jew. Leo Frank's story was spread widely after
his death. Movies, books, and articles about the Frank case have caused the trial to gain further
notoriety. The aftermath of Frank's case and ultimately his untimely death, show how racial tensions
and the facilitation of fear towards "outsiders" can have detrimental consequences. People today can
examine this case and see how race and notion of "outsiders" still plays a role in our court system
today. Additionally, the role the media played in Frank's case sealed his fate to the masses after
painting him as a deviant, and this practice of speaking to ones character is still used by the media
during cases and trials today. Examining the effects the media plays on a case is an important
practice that people living today should engage in.
Sacco and Vanzetti's trial also garnered national attention through newspaper articles. Six years after
their conviction, Sacco and Vanzetti gained international attention. Their defense lawyers also
argued that the men were only convicted due to their anarchist beliefs and went on to contact Benito
Mussolini who argued in defense of the men as well. Prejudice against anarchists was present during
the time of this trial had a great impact on the outcome of the case and left a lasting impression of
America. Another man ended up confessing to the murders, but Sacco and Vanzetti were continually
denied a new trial. Just as in Frank's trial, the defense for Sacco and Vanzetti applied for clemency
but did not receive it. Furthermore, a judge was able to deny their appeals and eventually this rule
was rewritten in Massachusetts so judges no longer have this power. The fear of communism and
prejudice against immigrants played a major role in this case and impacts people's lives

Sacco And Vanzetti Case Analysis
Two innocent Italian men, speaking out against an all white Jury, were blamed for the murder of two
white men which resulted in death by the electric chair. Although no hard evidence was held against
them, these men were charged because the trial occurred during a time when the Red Scare had
made a huge influence on the way people viewed non–americans. These two men were named
Sacco and Vanzetti and they were believed to be anarchists due to their ethnicity which brought
about an unjust trial which, in return, sparked a fire within the United States. The Sacco and Vanzetti
case brought to the surface the problems dealing with discrimination against immigrants because
their trial was believed to be unjust; therefore, we now have laws abolishing the injustice and
discrimination towards immigrants.
Sacco and Vanzetti were two Italian immigrants who were believed to be anarchists all because they
were immigrants. These two men were disciples of a militant anarchist named Luigi Galleani whose
intended target was Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. Galleanists, disciples of Galleani, sent
thirty mail bombs all across the United States. The intended targets for these mail bombs were high

This was surfaced because their trial was believed to be unjust; therefore, we created laws that
eliminate discrimination towards immigrants. Sacco and Vanzetti were believed to be anarchists all
because they did not favor the government. This led to the men becoming victims of a murder trial
which resulted in their deaths. This trial caused protests and bombs to occur across America because
the people believed that Sacco and Vanzetti were indeed, innocent. This case was brought up 50
years later and the trial ended up being named unjust and that Sacco and Vanzetti were wrongfully

The Murder of Two Innocent Men: Sacco and Vanzetti
"I wish to tell you I am innocent and never connected with any crime... I wish to forgive some
people for what they are now doing to me." These were the last words of Vanzetti just before his
death. Two innocent men executed because of their background information, the location they were
in during a crime and the prejudice trials they had to face trying to prove their innocence. Nicola
Sacco was born on June 11, 1888, in Torremaggiore, Italy while Bartolomeo Vanzetti was born on
April 22, 1891, in Villafelletto, Italy (www.workerslibery.org). These two men were both anarchist
and Italian immigrants with no criminal backgrounds. Sacco was a shoe edger and Vanzetti was a
construction worker, but during his free time he peddled eels and clams. They both immigrated to
the United States in 1908. Although Vanzetti had a tough childhood and never found a woman,
Sacco was married and had two children. He had a son named Dante and second child, which was a
girl, born during his time in jail. On April 15, 1920, two men murdered a pay master and a security
guard and stole more than 15,000 dollars from them(bostonlocaltv.org). Several eye witnesses
described the two murders as Italian
Immigrants, while some even claimed that they thought they saw Sacco and Vanzetti. Their car was
found in the woods so police put the murders vehicle in an auto repair shop as a trap to see who
would claim the car. Sacco and Vanzetti fell into the trap even though they were not suspects. On

Dalida Research Paper Highlights Life and Career

  • 1. Dalida Research Paper In a career that spanned four decades, 30 years, 1,000 songs, and earned her more than 90 gold and platinum records, Egyptian–born and French–residing pop singer Dalida lived a fascinating and tragic life of celebrity. After her breakout in 1956, Dalida's breathtaking beauty and distinctive voice made her an instant star, which gave her all the riches and spoils one could hope for, but amplified her vulnerabilites and weaknesses which fame and success exploited. Directed by Liza Azuelos (LOL), the film tells the singer's story in a non–linear way, beginning with her lying to her brother in a French airport in 1967, then secretly heading to a Parisian hotel. She is reeling from the recent suicide of her lover, burgeoning Italian pop singer Luigi Tenco, and has decided to attempt to take her own life. Not successful, she then is moved to a facility and doctors bring in those closest to her to learn more about her struggles. We traverse through her life at a relatively rapid speed, making Dalida a film that quickly becomes a highlight reel of a subject's life. Born Iolanda Gigliotti, she was bullied and rejected by her peers in grade school and saw her family persecuted during World War II. Her vocal talents soon emerged and in her early 20's she was discovered by radio station magnate Lucien Morisse (NAME). So taken with one another, Morisse left his wife for Iolanda and began managing her career. Once stardom begin to swirl around Dalida, her rise is rather meteoric and ... • 3. Sacco And Vanzetti Analysis Sometimes words cannot exactly explain what we want to convey, so we need a visual to support it. A similar thing was observed in the article of Alan M. Dershowitz, he cleverly makes use of Ben Shah's painting in the article to grab the attention of folks. The author writes about a murder case of a paymaster and a guard of the South Braintree by Sacco and Vanzetti, both were Italian immigrant anarchists. Surprisingly, the truth was not revealed that whether Sacco and Vanzetti were the killers and this case is still unsolved. I agree with the author that the trials could not get to the fair results. I believe that the painting is an ironic symbol of the justice. It silently expresses a lot what the text can't. I think the painting adds words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A hidden symbol for the injustice, very cleverly used by Ben Shahn, was lilies. In an online webpage, Ben Shahn says, "As a well–known symbol of the crucified Christ, the lilies also suggest that Sacco and Vanzetti are martyrs, punished for sins they did not commit" (Shahn, Ben. The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti 1931–32. New York. http://collection.whitney.org/object/1022 Accessed October 2016). It is clear from this line that the two sentenced people were innocent and were the victims of the power of high–class gentlemen. Former are stated as martyrs because they were not the murderers instead they had been murdered by the unfair trials held by wealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Video games in Hollywood Super Mario Bros, Doom, BloodRayne, and Mortal Kombat. These are all great, classic, or memorable video games in their own right, but their silver screen counterparts? Not so much. Why though? Why is it that video games can not translate into the same box office success that has been experienced by comic books and novels since the early 2000s? I have identified four crucial reasons why video games will never see the same commercial success as other mediums have: video games are not respected as an art form, Hollywood does not understand gaming, video games are difficult to translate from an interactive to non–interactive medium, and unqualified directors, who are unfamiliar with both video games and the source material from which they are adapting from. Besides a few select directors such a Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson, Hollywood generally views gaming as a novelty in its infancy and gamers as a select demographic to profit from. Since video games are viewed less seriously compared to novels or other artistic mediums, they have been treated as such. By definition, video games cannot be considered art, as they are inherently popular, while art serves to appeal to a niche audience. Video games as an art form have been debated feverishly in the past decade, with the general consensus being that video game are not an art form but an extension of artistic expression or at the very best, art in a non–traditional sense. Roger Ebert argued that due to the nature of video games they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. What Is The Role Of Communism In The 1920s In the early 1920s' America, threats of communism were everywhere. With the recent overthrow of the Russian ruler, panic started to set in. Americans were scared of this because the Communists showed how powerful they really were. Even though World War I in Germany ended, a new war started, turning in a new direction. It became a war against "... anything un–American – which in 1919 meant radical or red" (Palmer Raids). A communist party formed in the United States, reaching a peak of seventy thousand members. Almost immediately after the government found out about this, the Committee of Public Information started pouring out propaganda promoting the American way of democracy. This sparked the beginning of the Red Scare. Being a scary moment in American history, Alexander Mitchell Palmer tried to take matters into his own hands by killing and deporting thousands of Americans. It was during Woodrow Wilson's presidency, 1913–1921 when communism started to spread in America. Because he was president, citizens started to blame him for the communist takeover. The citizens of the United States felt immigrants were bringing communism into our country because of the political loyalty they were believed to have. The two ethnicities that were mostly targeted were the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilson refused to fire him and stood up for him. The president stuck around until the end to speak with Palmer. President Wilson told him to not let this country see red. • 11. A Synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author A synopsis of Six Characters in Search of an Author Luigi Pirandello's play, Six Characters in Search of an Author, starts out in an empty auditorium with several Actors and their Director preparing for rehearsal when the Six Characters walk onto the stage of the actors' rehearsal in search of a new author. The Father, on behalf of the Six Characters, claims that they, as individuals are incomplete, because their previous author could not finish his work. Shortly thereafter the Father and the Stepdaughter begin to tell the family's story, which is as follows. The Father and Mother were once married, but when the Father found out that the Mother loved his assistant he let her go. The Family of Six Characters consists of the Father, the Mother, and four children. The Son, who is the only child of the Father and Mother, is sent off to the country to become a man. The Stepdaughter, the Little Boy, and the Little Girl are all the children that the mother had with her paramour during her affair. Her lover subsequently dies and the Mother, with her children, move back to the city where the Stepdaughter finds work at a brothel where the Father is unknowingly reacquainted the Stepdaughter. It is unknown whether or not the two actually have sex, but it is believed that the two figure out that they are family before things get too far. • 13. Video Game Reflection Paper When I was little, I loved to try lots of new things. Games, toys, candy; but I had never heard of video games. Until one day on the bus, my neighbor told me that he had a Wii. I had seen commercials for it, and it looked fun. Originally I never wanted one because it was so expensive. That night when I went over to his house, my life would never be the same. Later that day I went over to his house. Ordinarily we run around, shoot each other with face guns, and do other things like that. I was getting antsy though, so we went inside after only 45 minutes. We got inside and then I saw it, the white Wii sitting on the entertainment center next to the TV. "What games do you have?" I asked. "The only game I have is Mario Kart," he replied, so that is what we played. Since I had never played it before I was terrible. Three games in a row, I got 12th out of 12. After, about an hour of playing I started to notice that I was passing the computers (other racers) and getting 7th–4th place on average. Nevertheless, I soon had to leave, but I was much better than when I started. Besides having so much fun on the Wii, I rarely got to play on it. I had played on it here and there, but not a lot. I kept asking my parents for a Wii, they only said no, but then when it got closer to Christmas they started to tantalize me by answering with "maybe for Christmas." That got me very excited. That year I was probably on my best behavior ever. On the day of Christmas I kind of forgot about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. How To Dissect The Human Body? The late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Europe were an explosion of modern advancement as the Industrial Revolution took hold. The development of large industrialized cities brought about a change in attitude regarding progress that allowed modern scientists to look further into nature for solutions to everyday qualms. At the forefront of the innovational age was the discovery of electricity and the beginning of its experimentation for both practical and scientific purposes. Concepts similar to electricity had been debated in ancient societies, however the human mind was never able to capture it until the beginning of the nineteenth century. Experimentation with electricity caused controversy throughout Europe as results came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon after Galvani published his findings in 1891 Alessandro Volta proposed that the "'animal' part of Galvani's animal electricity was not needed" (Alessandro n.pag). Volta instead believed in what he called metallic electricity. He alleged that all that was need to generate electricity was any moist material between two different metals (Voltaic n.pag). However, by this time Galvani's theory held wide acceptance due to public demonstrations. To support his claims, in 1800, Volta built what is now known as the voltaic pile, which would come to be known as the first electric battery (Montillo 56). The voltaic pile used the natural transfer of electrons between two metallic elements to establish an electric current that could be directed through a wire. With the help of his voltaic pile, Volta successfully disproved Galvani's theory of animal electricity (Parent 578). • 17. The Tale Of Mario And Luigi's Adventures In The Beanbean... Does the main game hold up? You bet it does! The tale of Mario & Luigi's adventures in the Beanbean Kingdom is still hilarious and in my eyes was well worth playing through once again. At a good 8–10 hours depending on your experience and how much of the side content you wish to partake in, the game is somewhat simpler than its successors, but less gimmicky as a result. The most obvious difference compared to the original is the shift from purely 2D sprites to more textured visuals found in more recent instalments. These are as appealing as they can be, but the thing that truly impressed me was the use of shadows and lighting in darker areas to make the visuals pop out. It's a neat effect that to the best of my knowledge isn't really found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also a dedicated button to allow both Mario Bros. to jump normally without the need to swap back to the standard jump icon. It's an absolute godsend, eliminating a major gripe I had with the original. As for new combat features, the timing for pressing buttons for moves has been made demonstrably clearer, even giving the button combinations on the bottom screen before selecting the attack, as well as the ability to practice. These were features present in more modern Mario & Luigi games, but are welcome here. Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser is a brand new storyline added to the remake that runs concurrently to the main quest, giving us the perspective of a lowly minion on a search for Bowser. Along the way you'll also encounter characters from the main story and you'll be treated to what they've been up to while off screen. This mode opens up to the player pretty early after hitting a certain spot in the main game and presents a completely different playstyle. The goal is to find Bowser, but in order to do so you'll be thrown into battles with brainwashed minions that have fallen under Fawful's control. There are three types of minions; ranged, melee, and flying, each with a strength and weakness. Melee is strong against ranged, ranged is strong against flying, and flying is strong against melee, which results in a rock, paper, scissors rule set. • 19. Immigration Through The Late 1800 's And Early 1900 ' S Immigration through out the late 1800's and early 1900's created nativism throughout the United States. Millions of immigrants flocked to the United States trying to find a better way of life to be able to support their families. Industrialization in the United States provided a labor source for the immigrants. Native born Americans believed immigrants were a "threat to the American way of life" (ATF chapter 11) Social and economic fault lines developed between natives and immigrants, through out the late 1800's and early 1900's, going unnoticed until the late 1920's when the Sacco and Vanzetti case brought awareness of issue to much of the United States. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti "two obscure Italian aliens, became the focal point of one of the most controversial episodes in American history";(ATF CH11p257) when they were arrested on May 5, 1920 for "suspicious character" and connection with the Slater Morrill Shoe Company robbery. Sacco and Vanzetti were arrested carrying hunting weapons and extra ammunition on the way to pick up Mike Boba's car, which was believed to have connected them to robbery of the Slater Morrill Shoe Company that had occurred on April 15, 1920. Sacco and Vanzetti's actions depicted "the kind of foreign menace American nativist most feared" (ATF chapter 11p 270), making them prime suspects for the robbery. Before the turn of the century, the feelings projected toward the financial barons of New York were all but tranquil. Pirandello relates to this because as World War I was going on his son Stefano was deployed. Another novel concerning events in a country or community was The Other Son. This novel tells about a concerned Sicilian mother pining for her two sons who have emigrated to Sante Fe. The mother's longing for her sons urges her to follow each group of prospective emigrants walking away from their village, in hopes to find her sons. This deals with community issues and the fact that people are emigrating in and out of the community. The Braintree and Bridgewater crimes, in 1919 and 1920, seemed to show a patterned and drew attention to Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists, where were soon arrested for the crimes. After a long trial, suspicious evidence and six years of appeals the two were convicted and sentenced to the electric chair. These strikes lead to anarchist bombings lead by Luigi Galleani who was also an Italian immigrant like Sacco and Vanzetti. • 33. The Role Of Hardware And Software Improved Over Time Since the release of Donkey Kong in 1981, platforming–based video games have been concerned with reaching a goal. From the early 1980s to the late 1990s, obtaining the objective fell under a linear, two–point process. For example, in "Super Mario Bros," the player must guide the plumber to a flagpole in order to complete a level. Once the player completes the thirty–second stage, he achieves the substantial goal of saving the princess. In contrast to the "Mega Man" series, the hero must annihilate eight robot masters before defeating a diabolical, mad scientist. Essentially, the player is tasked to complete an underlying objective before moving to the ultimate goal. However, as the aspects of hardware and software improved over time, game ... While the events in the plot changes in each run, the two–point process is still embedded with the same exact goal. Lola must obtain the money (the preliminary goal) and deliver it to Manni (the ultimate goal¬). In order to explain what I mean, I will break down the first run followed by a summary of the second run. In the first run, Lola starts by running out of her apartment building via an animated sequence, passing a man and his dog. Then, the film transitions back to live action, where Lola is sprinting on the streets. Suddenly, she bumps into a woman and her baby carriage. After a rushed apology, Lola runs along the side of a bicyclist who attempts to sell his bike to the protagonist. She refuses and keeps sprinting. As she gets closer to her bank (in hopes of accomplishing the preliminary goal), she nearly gets hit by a car, causing a crash due to distracted driving. While Lola rushes into the bank, her father asks a mistress if he wants to have a baby with him. Suddenly, and to her father's surprise, Lola enters her father's office and asks for one–hundred thousand German marks. However, in this one scene alone, Lola meets the mistress, learns that the mistress is pregnant, and finally knows that her father is not biologically related to her and that he plans to elope with the mistress. • 35. Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti Essay The Sacco and Vanzetti Murder Trial The murder trial of the Italians known as Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was one of the most controversial events during the 1920's. The execution of the Italians by electric chair was wrongfully convicted given that there wasn't enough evidence to prove that Sacco and Vanzetti were responsible for the armed robbery. In fact, many commentators say that they were executed mainly for their political views and not for their "so called" actions. In my opinion, the trial was never properly handled and they should have never been executed or at least not given a real chance to defend themselves. On april 15, 1920 an armed robbery took place in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Two businessmen were moving a $15,000 payroll to different location when an automobile with two men inside showed up, shot them both and drove away. This is where it all starts, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti are blamed for a crime they were never a part of. I wish to forgive some people for what they are now doing to me." On August 23, 1927, two innocent men were executed by electrocution in Boston. Those two men were Sacco and Vanzetti, who were treated unjustly for prejudiced reasons. Both men supported anarchist groups that promoted warfare against the government. Sacco and Vanzetti received an unfair trial because of their radical political views, tainted witnesses in court, and denial of a new trial. Nicola Sacco was born in Torremaggiore, Italy, in 1891. While the police were looking for evidence to use against Sacco they found a cap and claimed that it was his. He denied owning the cap, and so they had him try it on infront of the jury. He repeatedly said the cap did not fit (Linder). As the court was trying to find evidence against Vincetti they could not come up with anything stable. So, in front of the court he said this, "Eugene Debs say that not even a dog –– something like that –– not even a dog that kill the chickens would have been found guilty by American jury with the evidence that Commonwealth have produced against us. I say that not even a leprous dog would have his appeal refused two times by the Supreme Court of Massachusetts –– not even a leprous dog" ("Sacco and Vanzetti Case"). Although some say the trial was fair there are still a lot of people who believe it was not. Three months after the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti the state of Massachusetts passed a law stating, "in any case in which a defendant has been convicted of murder in the first degree, the Supreme Judicial Court must review both the law and the evidence" ("Sacco & Vanzetti: Justice"). In doing research for this topic, I've gone through screens of Mario's video games, and as I continue to do my research, I've discovered that Mario isn't that simple. Perhaps Americans should look at their own history to guide them into the future and explain the present. One of the other largest factors in "The Given Day" is race relations. Known as anarchists and draft evaders, the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Lovecraft. In the 1900's, fear drove America. The Red Scare was a time when Americans were afraid of the threat of Communism. In the Sacco and Vanzetti case, two Italian anarchists were convicted of crimes which they were clearly innocent of. The Ku Klux Klan attempted to keep African–Americans out of positions of power and for brief time was successful. The Red Scare, Sacco Vanzetti case and the rise of the KKK all are example of how American's fear the unknown and what we don't understand. After Red Scare is the term the fear of Communism in America held in the 1900's. The Roaring Twenties was "the era in American history between the end of WW1 and the commencement of the Great Depression" (Alchin). During this time, the United States prospered– there were new automobiles, fashion styles, and music styles. The Golden Twenties was very similar to the Roaring Twenties. During the Golden Twenties, there were social and economic reforms, artistic expressions, Berlin's Recovery, and the Women's Liberation Movement (What). The Sacco and Vanzetti Case has always been treated as one, but in reality, the two should have had an opportunity to serve the trial together and if the two feel as if justice was not served, then they should have been able to have separate trials. Before being executed, Vanzetti left the courtroom with "In all my life I have never stole, never killed never spilled blood.... We were tried during a time ... when there was hysteria of resentment and hate against the people of our principles, against the foreigner.... I am suffering because I am a radical and indeed I am a radical; I have suffered because I was an Italian and indeed I am an Italian.... If you could execute me two times, and if I could be reborn two other times, I would live again to do what I have done already" (Danzer 414). This quote shows that Vanzetti is innocent. "Moore did his best to turn Sacco and Vanzetti into archetypal working men with whom he hoped large segments of the blue–collar community might identify. He even tried to arouse international interest in the case, especially in Italy. The tactics showed early signs of working. Groups such as the New England Civil Liberties Union soon joined the fight, sending to its supporters a letter declaring that the evidence against Sacco and Vanzetti was "unsubstantial" and that they were being prosecuted merely because they were "foreigners and are active and influential radicals." (User) This quote shows how the defense attorney blames the prosecution on their race. • 57. Leo Frank Trial Essay While Frank died maintaining his innocence, definitive proof of his innocence was never uncovered. Frank underwent an unjust trial and ultimately lost his life due to the racial prejudices and violence that enticed Atlanta during this time period. Atlanta felt threatened by "outsiders" after the Civil War and this was apparent during Frank's trial. Despite the lack of evidence against Frank, the people of Atlanta were quick to believe the guilt of a northern Jew. Leo Frank's story was spread widely after his death. Movies, books, and articles about the Frank case have caused the trial to gain further notoriety. The aftermath of Frank's case and ultimately his untimely death, show how racial tensions and the facilitation of fear towards "outsiders" can have detrimental consequences. People today can examine this case and see how race and notion of "outsiders" still plays a role in our court system today. Additionally, the role the media played in Frank's case sealed his fate to the masses after painting him as a deviant, and this practice of speaking to ones character is still used by the media during cases and trials today. Examining the effects the media plays on a case is an important practice that people living today should engage in. Sacco and Vanzetti's trial also garnered national attention through newspaper articles. Six years after their conviction, Sacco and Vanzetti gained international attention. Their defense lawyers also argued that the men were only convicted due to their anarchist beliefs and went on to contact Benito Mussolini who argued in defense of the men as well. Prejudice against anarchists was present during the time of this trial had a great impact on the outcome of the case and left a lasting impression of America. These were the last words of Vanzetti just before his death. Two innocent men executed because of their background information, the location they were in during a crime and the prejudice trials they had to face trying to prove their innocence. Nicola Sacco was born on June 11, 1888, in Torremaggiore, Italy while Bartolomeo Vanzetti was born on April 22, 1891, in Villafelletto, Italy (www.workerslibery.org).
