Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.

Mental Attitude: How We Determine Attractiveness… Beauty may also be in the ears and nose of the beholder. A review of 30
years of published research indicates that a person’s voice and scent can be just as important as physical appearance when determining
how attractive someone is to others. Lead study author Dr. Agata Groyecka suggests a number of evolutionary explanations for these
different aspects of attraction, such as the ability to detect traits both from a distance (voice and looks), as well as up close (scent). Dr.
Groyecka adds, “Perceiving others through all three channels gives a more reliable and broader variety of information about them.”

Health Alert: Heart Disease a Leading Killer Worldwide. An analysis of health data collected from 133 countries around the globe
finds that a third of all deaths around the world each year are the result of heart disease, which includes stroke, heart failure, coronary
heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and peripheral arterial disease. Lead author Dr. Gregory Roth explains, “High levels of cardiovascular
disease are seen throughout the world, both in high-income countries and those with more limited access to effective and inexpensive
treatments… It is an alarming threat to global health.” Journal of the American College of Cardiology, May 2017
Diet: Nuts Beneficial to Colon Cancer Survivors. Two new studies suggest that eating nuts along with a healthy diet and regular
exercise can improve the chances of survival for colon cancer patients. A seven-year study found that patients treated for colon cancer
who ate at least two ounces of nuts a week had a 42% lower chance of their cancer returning and a 57% lower risk of dying from the
disease. Another study found that colon cancer survivors with the highest healthy lifestyle scores from eating right, exercising, and
maintaining a healthy weight had a 42% lower risk of death from the disease than those with the lowest scores.

Exercise: Cyclists Shouldn't Worry About This... The groin pain and numbness experienced by some bicyclists isn’t harmful to
their sexual or urinary health. In a new study, researchers surveyed 4,000 men involved in sports clubs and found that sexual
dysfunction and urinary symptoms were no worse for cyclists than runners or swimmers. Meanwhile, another study involving nearly
2,700 female athletes found that cycling had no negative effect on the women's sexual or urinary health. Dr. Kevin McVary, a
spokesman for the American Urological Association writes, “Men and women can benefit from the cardiovascular exercise of cycling
without worrying about negative side effects to their urinary tract or sexual performance.”
American Urological Association, May 2017
Chiropractic: Stress and Well-Being Linked to Spinal Pain. Danish researchers recently surveyed 45,371 ten- to fourteen-year-old
children and found that spinal pain is a common complaint among this group, often co-occurring with stress and poor general well-
being. The research team posits that addressing stress and well-being among teenagers could lower their overall risk for both back and
neck pain during adolescence and possibly into adulthood. European Journal of Pediatrics, May 2017
Wellness/Prevention: “Healthy Obese” May Be Just a Myth. The term “healthy obese” is used to describe obese people who don’t
have metabolic problems such as high cholesterol, poor blood sugar control, diabetes, or high blood pressure. An analysis of the health
records of 3.5 million people revealed that compared to normal-weight people with no metabolic problems, healthy obese individuals
have a 50% higher risk of heart disease, a 7% higher risk of stroke, double the risk of heart failure, and a greater risk of peripheral
artery disease. Study author Dr. Rishi Caleyachetty notes, “The priority of health professionals should be to promote and facilitate
weight loss among obese persons, regardless of the presence or absence of metabolic abnormalities.”
