Mental Attitude: Sleep Apnea Elevates Depression Risk Among Men. Investigators have discovered that men with undiagnosed,
severe obstructive sleep apnea have more than double the risk of depression when compared with their peers without sleep-related
problems. Researcher Dr. Alan Manevitz adds, "The interplay between sleep and mood has always been present. Depression may
cause sleep problems and sleep problems may cause or contribute to depression… Whichever diagnosis you may have, you should get

Health Alert: Shift Work Associated with Health Problems. Compared with those working a regular 9-5 schedule, shift workers
are 13% more likely to be overweight and 10% more likely to have sleep problems. Lead investigator Dr. Marjory Givens writes,
"This study adds to a growing body of literature calling attention to the metabolic health burden commonly experienced by shift
workers and suggests that obtaining sufficient sleep could lessen this burden. More research in this area could inform workplace
wellness or healthcare provider interventions on the role of sleep in addressing shift worker health disparities."

Diet: Set Regular Eating Times for a Healthier Family. Having a regular meal schedule can help family members maintain smart
eating habits and a healthy weight. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends setting a specific time for meals, eating three
balanced meals daily, never skipping meals, offering healthy snacks between meals, serving appropriate portion sizes, including a fruit
and vegetable with every meal, asking for help from children in selecting a meal, and offering praise when children choose healthy

Exercise: Preschoolers May Not Getting Enough Physical Activity. Among a sample of child care centers in the Seattle area,
investigators found that preschoolers spend just 30 minutes playing outside and are offered less than 60 minutes each day for inside
play Current guidelines call for a minimum of one hour of adult-led, structured physical activity and one hour of unstructured free play
time each day. Lead author Dr. Pooja Tandon comments, "Children need daily opportunities for physical activity not only for optimal
weight status, but because physical activity promotes numerous aspects of health, development, and well-being… Physical activity,
which in this age occurs typically in the form of play, promotes cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and mental health and is associated

Chiropractic: Wrist Flexion and Extension Compresses Median Nerve. Ultrasound examinations of the wrists of 34 older adults
found that flexing and extending the wrist compresses the median nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel, reducing its diameter.
This finding supports the use of wrist splints during sleep to lower the risk of nerve compression and the exacerbation of carpal tunnel

Wellness/Prevention: Blood Test May Be Able to Detect Breast Cancer Metastasis Earlier. Detecting breast cancer metastasis
may become easier thanks to a new blood test. Researchers from Lund University have discovered they can detect cancer metastasis
earlier by looking for free circulating DNA in the blood. These small fragments of genetic material are usually found in the blood in
low levels, but these fragments increase in the presence of cancer. Lead researcher Dr. Lao Saal explains, "The circulating tumor DNA
values in the blood samples identified the metastases on average 11 months before they were diagnosed by standard clinical
procedures. In some cases, the blood test detected the metastasis three years earlier. If we could find the cancer recurrences that much
