Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

• The etymology of the name Cyprus comes from
copper (in Latin Cuprum).
• The root of the name "Cyprus" stems from
the large copper reserves that existed on
the island and the island was a large copper
export.
9. Ancient Cyprus
• The earliest confirmed site of human activity on Cyprus is around
10000 BC.
• During the late Bronze Age, the island experienced a wave of Greek
settlement, around 1400 BC.
• Cyprus occupies an important role in Greek mythology being the
birthplace of Aphrodite.
• Cyprus is at a strategic location in the Middle East. It was ruled
by Assyria for a century starting in 708 BC, before a brief spell under
Egyptian rule and eventually Persian rule in 545 BC.
• The island was conquered by Alexander the Great in 333 BC and
after his death it became part of the Hellenistic empire.
• In 58 BC Cyprus was acquired by the Romans.
10. Middle Ages – Ottoman empire
• In 395 Cyprus became part of the Byzantine empire and would
remain so for 800 years.
• In 1570, Ottoman troops brought the island under Ottoman
control.
• Soldiers who fought in the conquest settled on the island and
Turkish were brought to the island from Anatolia.
• In 1878 Cyprus was leased to the British empire.

Turkish invasion
• The island would serve Britain as a key military
base for its colonial routes.
• In 1950 the charge organized a referendum in
which the 96% of citizens voted in favor of
enosis with Greece. The British rejected the
referendum and after a 4year fight with the
British troops, in 1960, Cyprus was declared an
independent county.
• In 1974, Turkish troops invaded in Cyprus and
took over the 37% of the island's territory, which
remain until today.

the biggest town of
