Cyclamen is a genus of 23 flowering plant species traditionally classified as primulaceae but now classified as myrsinaceae. Cyclamen are native to the Mediterranean region from Spain to Iran and northeast Africa. Each leaf or flower grows individually on a stem. The leaves are usually variegated with a pale silvery mark in the middle. Cyclamen are used as a food source by larvae of some moth species. They typically grow in dry forests or scrublands where they receive some shade. Species vary in frost tolerance from tolerating temperatures down to -15°C to not tolerating any frost.
