A Study On Restaurant Patrons
Restaurant Patrons
The restaurant patron were comprise of Asian, White, light skin Black, and myself Hispanic.
Attendees were mostly in their 20 s with the exception of couple of older people. All of them seemed
people of the working class or recently out of college. There was an equal ratio of females to males as
most of the costumers came in pairs. Everybody seemed to be in good health as the patrons were
young. Emotional appearance seemed normal, just taking their time to relax and enjoy each other s
company.
Their postures were made up of casual leaning. In towards the table, towards the people they were
talking to or to the wall. There was approximately 30 people in the restaurant. They were dress
casually, not baggy, or sports clothes, but the type of that you wear to go out. People mainly focused
on their conversations before and after the meal. Small chatter was still accompanied their eating.
Some eat multiple dishes, including appetizer and main course, main course with dessert, or all three,
others just one meal. Some order drinks with their meal, others just drink the water that was given to
them at the beginning.
There was some differences. Size of groups and race varied. There was many people in pairs
especially white people. The biggest group of people were male Asian. Multiple race where
represented but whites were the majority. Only one family that I saw. Small children were not present.
It was not necessarily a place where a family big or small would go

Amanda Identity Analysis
Across the globe there are many people with all different identities, but what is identity? Identity
indicate s who or what (someone or something) is. Within one s identity are personality characteristics
of who he or she is. For Amanda two of her identity characteristics are independence and
stubbornness. These two characteristic traits have been caused by a significant event in her life. And
now shape who she is and how she communicates.
As a child Amanda went through many different changes in life. Through each divorce her family
went through the more independent she became. For Amanda, independence also brought along the
characteristic trait of stubbornness. She believes that these two characteristics go hand in hand. She

A few years ago Amanda dated a guy who loved to buy her gifts. However her personality did not like
that. It wasn t that she didn t appreciate the gift but it was more that her independent side didn t need
someone, especially a male, to buy her anything. She could buy the purse herself. For instance, this
young man had bought her a very expensive purse just because. Amanda remembers returning home
and being very disappointed that he had done this. She wanted to buy this purse herself. She didn t
want it to be bought for her or just handed to her. She felt that when someone did something like this
for her that it s because they want to be better than her and or have her rely on them. Also because of
her stubbornness she was very reluctant when it came to accepting that gift. In the end, she ended up
secretly giving that purse to a friend and going to purchase that same purse herself. She did not tell the
guy that she did this. But instead kept that to herself just so that she didn t upset him, or hurt him.
Amanda let him think that that was the same purse he had given her. While it didn t affect her
relationship directly she did allow her characteristics to effect her relationship indirectly when it came

Book Review On My Year Of Meats By Ozeki
My year of meats is a novel by Ruth Ozeki, exploring the differences between the food cultures of
America and Japan, with the aim of establishing generalizations on both. Through the exploration of
the Japanese and American views and culture on food, and beef products in general points out the
differences in the views of the people from the two countries. As an example, Akiko s husband
believes that, if she learned to cook and eat an American diet full of meat, it would be easier for her to
grow fatter and to get pregnant (Ozeki 21). In his attempts to make her adopt the American diet, he
compelled Akiko to watch the show, my American wife, where each weekly half hour
episode...culminated in the celebration of a featured meat, climaxing in its glorious consumption
(Ozeki 8). The fact that Japanese such as John embraced the American diet as the solution to their
health problems points out the acceptance of the superiority of America s food culture. The review of
the food cultures of the two countries, stereotypes about food, the conception of food culture, and the
revelations to be drawn from food culture will point out the fundamental differences between the
Japanese and American people and their food cultures. The review of the food cultures of America and
Japan points out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the American food culture is manifest from the superiority that the American people have cultivated

Montessori Cultural Competence
Cultural competence methods involved materials related to the arts, science, and social science.
Montessori cultural activities have an important language component. Teaching different cultures to
children are important. It helps them to have an appreciation for other nationalities, cultural
backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, languages, and act. Dr. Maria Montessori would create classrooms that
were filled with many different objects that are associated with other parts of the country. Each student
will take part of the activity that involves the paths of culture. As children learn different aspects of
culture this allows the children to understand how each culture differs and hopefully become a
participating and contributing member of society. Montessori education for young children helps to
increase their independency to adult hood. Children are allowed to learn at their own pace, rather than
learn at another child pace. This learning concept helps to develop long term experiences that the child
will carry on into adulthood. It focusses on less dependency on a teacher for guidance. It allows a
child to make decisions based on their way of learning. The teachers are present during the learning
phases. However, the child is responsible to think strategic and come to realistic conclusions. In
return, the child will succeed because the child is learning at his/her own pace. Lev Vygotsky was a
Russian psychologist that believed that play was made up of several roles

Musical Critique
One way I became more involved in university life by going to Oklahoma!. Not the state, but rather
the musical put on by the university. My suitemate Anna auditioned to be a part of it, and when she
got the part, she invited us all to watch opening night on November 13th.
I had been to a few musicals near my hometown, but they were rather lackluster and not very well
produced. This left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to amateur theatre performances, so I
hesitated in buying tickets for Oklahoma!. When I talked to my teaching assistant, she persuaded me
to give it a try because I might have a very different experience. I am glad that I went, because the
performance was a very vibrant show that meshed the excitement of college students with the pioneer
lifestyle of the great plains.
The musical was very lively, portraying life in the territory of Oklahoma, and focuses on several
young couples attending the local formal. Laurey is invited by Curley to a dance, but she decides to go
with the farmhand Jud instead to make Curley jealous. Curley attempts to win her back because he
feels that Jud is dangerous and disgusting, and he is in love with Laurey. Simultaneously, Ado Annie

I found Oklahoma! to be very entertaining and hilarious, but it also included some dark aspects, such
as date rape and suicide. The way the writers integrated these darker scenes kept the musical from
being too lighthearted, but still relevant and enjoyable to the audiences. Secondly, this musical
increased my appreciation for the arts. From my previous experiences in live theatres, I was not
expecting the actors to be so well rounded in singing, acting and dancing. Although I am not inclined
to act in front of an audience, I really enjoyed the show and plan to attend more musicals on stage next

The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge
There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and
sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that
people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim. With
new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the new
science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by evidence
proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific claim is proven
to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re evaluated and proven to
be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in the evolution of knowledge?
How do we know what scientific fact is reliable?
When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using
new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and they
must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet from the
sun? International Astronomical Union changed the status of Pluto by reclassifying as a dwarf planet
because it did not meet the criteria of a planet. More significant claims have been made and many
people are aware of some well known superseded scientific theories and wonder why they were
believed to be true in the first place.

Comparison Of The Devil And Miss Prym
The book The Devil And Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho and the movie Hero starring Jet Li even though
in different languages, share a plethora of similarities. The Devil And Miss Prym tells the story of a
young woman from the village of Visco, Chantal Prym. Her life was very simple and seemed so
innocent, until the devil walked into Visco and offered her something she so strongly felt she deserved
a way out of Visco. Of course there was a small price to pay, somebody had to die. After this day
Chantal lived with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, constantly fighting to win her
over. In the end God s light shined brighter and Chantal was able to make the right decisions. The
movie, saving herself and her village. Hero by Jet Li was about an orphaned, nameless, assassin who
blamed the King for the death of his family, and wanted revenge. He was able to get within 10 paces
of the restless King making him believe he killed the 3 assassins that had been after him. The king
soon realized that Nameless s story did not add up and he had to be an assassin. Even so, he chose a
different fate, because of what broken sword had taught to him. This was his highest ideal, and with
that knowledge the desire to kill no longer existed, only peace, not revenge. When not blinded by hate
he was able to see the King s mission to unite all of China, and Spared, his life only after passing on
these wise words. Both stories main characters dealt a with a Person Versus Self battle, both Stories
had common archetypes with some playing the innocent and others the Sage, and both stories share a
philosophy and that is utilitarianism.
In both of these stories the biggest battle of all was fought within the mind of the main character.
Chantal faced this throughout much of the story as she questioned should she steal the gold? Should
she tell the villagers of the message the devil shared with her? Should she help Berta? It was a tough
battle between her morals, her ego and what she felt she deserved after living her whole life in Visco,
even though she was different than everyone else there. In the end she ended up realizing she wasn t
so different from them after all. She was able to fight the temptation, even though she

Why We Shouldn T Use Instagram Essay
Why Kids shouldn t use Instagram There are many reasons why kids should not use Instagram. Due to
the excessive explicit material, that kids at such young ages should not be exposed to. There are
however some good reasons for kids to use Instagram. Instagram gives children a chance to express
their creative and talented sides, while using the art of photography and picture editing, but like any
good thing there is always someone out there that s got to ruin it for everyone else. In the perfect
society, you wouldn t have to worry about your children having to be stalked or possibly harmed by

One of which would be the use and enforcement of safety programs or failsafe systems for parents to
implement child locks on their Instagram. If we can find a way to block channels on the television,
and block inappropriate web pages from our computers then we should be able to apply the same sort
of safety control to our social media pages as well. According to a post from an article titled 5
Instagram Safety Tips for Teens by Ali DeCesare, There are privacy settings on Instagram that allow
you to determine who follows you. With privacy settings, sending out a request is the only way to
become a follower of someone. This way is a lot safer than having a public profile because only those
who you approve to follow you can see your pictures. Privacy settings also keep away unwanted
followers because everyone who wants to follow you has to go through your dashboard and be
approved by you. Without Privacy Settings on, it isn t only your followers who can see your picture.
Anyone can search your profile and find your pictures and profile if you don t have Privacy Settings
on. This is my exact point, Instagram has setting in place for your safety but sometimes, children have
a tendency to go behind parents back and undo these safety features. If parents aren t checking their
children s devices on a daily basis then kids could

The Popular Culture And The Theory Of Pop Culture
I believe that the phenomenon of greeting banners by communities and families is a kind of pop
culture. Popular culture or pop culture is a kind of phenomena that becomes mainstreams in a certain
culture, in this case the culture of Balinese people. Balinese people take a new form of the way they
deliver their Hari raya greeting, that is through banner and it somehow become popular and
mainstreams. So what the importance of studying or doing research about pop culture is to find out the
underplaying assumption, the power behind the pop culture and the moral, attitude and philosophical
construct of the society that implement the pop culture. From it, we can get a better understanding
about how that certain society works and how their perception and behavior are shaped by the pop
culture. One of the theories of pop culture study is the theory of mass society. ... Show more content

What people think about something and what are their attitude of a certain mater is an important
aspect of their life in approaching and solving problems. Basically, it is about how they face the world
and how their behavior can influence their own well being and the society. In a study about
innovation, Robert Sternberg state that creativity is, in large part, a decision that people make. He
studies the thinking processes that distinguish creative people and highlights attitudes that help spark
creativity and stimulate innovation. Understanding the creativity of people in a society in expressing
things and solving their problem may help researcher to assess and answer their inquiry needs as well
as promoting something that may improve their welfare. So as I state before, understanding the
phenomenon of greeting banner may help us to develop other similar strategies or phenomenon for
other good purposes, like for example, rising awareness of the more important

Henry the Alligator Snapping Turtle was not fast, but he was really stubborn. So when the cocky hare,
Celer, had dared him to try to race him, after hurting a friend no less, Henry knew he had to end this
Celer s rule, in any way necessary. Henry accepted the challenge much Celer s amusement. The race
was set to be exactly one week from that moment. When Henry left the courtyard he had been in, his
friends quickly (for turtles anyway) ran toward him. Joey, a large, African Spurred Tortoise, was the
first to catch up.

my friends again. Henry won the race.
Henry did what he felt like was a run over to his friends, but they ran. He shouted,
Wait up guys, come on.... Please his voice slowly drifted off as he realized they knew they had left
him behind. They were afraid of Henry. They ll be back, they won t stay scared.... Will they? On his

Hey, Shelly what s up Henry asked, hopeful
Nothing Shelly said decisively, and she increased her pace. Henry had to run to keep up with Shelly.
Please, Shelly, why do you resent me all the sudden? Henry said, though he suspected the answer.
Because you bit someone s leg in 2! That s not okay! Shelly was practically shouting by the end of

Lewy Body Dementia
Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a common form of progressive dementia that affects approximately 1.4
million Americans today which makes it the second most prevalent form of dementia behind
Alzheimer s. LBD is formed when lewy body proteins grow in the area of the brain that controls
thinking, memory and motor movement. Generally, there are two types of brain diseases that are
affected by lewy bodies; Parkinson s disease with dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.
Discovered by famous neurologist Frederic Lewy, lewy body dementia can affect a person s ability to

Are there any advantages to having more than one independent variable in an experimental design? If
so, what are they? What about more than one dependent variable?
Having more than one independent variable could be very beneficial with an experimental design.
Here are my reasoning to believe why multiple variables. What if one process does not work out with
one step? What if the original variable exclude(s) one process within the experiment? And/or what if

Which type of data do you think might be the easiest to collect? Hardest? Why?
Quantitative data would be easiest to collect. I feel this as so, because quantitative data can be written
down and/or express with numbers. Quantitative data is something that you can actually see or handle.
Quantitative data is also easily observed and/or measured. Quantitative data is define.
Now, on the other hand qualitative data is hardest as it can be difficult to measure. Qualitative data
formulates an approximation of something or its characteristics. Qualitative data cannot be seen. You

The Career As An Educator
A career as an educator is a highly rewarding and equally challenging position, a teacher is not only
responsible for the academic success of their pupils but the social development as well, this is
especially true as a second language teacher. It is through my own experience as a student and a
prospective teacher that I ve developed my own beliefs and philosophy about teaching. I believe that
there are certain things that can t be compromised or short sold for example, classroom environment
and the needs of the learner. There does however, need to be a certain level of flexibility both with the
teacher and the techniques and methodologies employed. There are many attributes that make an
effective teacher, some include; creativity, compassion, and leadership. These qualities coupled with
knowledge of the material and language learning experience can fortify learning for the students.
Through the course of this semester many approaches and techniques have been discussed, elaboration
on their benefits and uses and how to utilize them best in a language learning setting have been
highlighted. Through the presentation of all the information it seems that no single approach or
technique can satisfy the needs of every learner, and that the most pertinent message to teachers is to
know what the needs of your students are individually, and cater lessons for those needs using a
variety of techniques. That being said I will discuss some approaches and techniques that I found the

Aristotle Rational Animals
I do agree with proposition 3: Humans are rational animals and proposition 4: Reasoning and speech
are perfects of ration animals. Man, is a rational animal because he possesses the power of speech.
Other animals use their voice to express their pain and pleasure, but only human voices are charged
with reason. Speech is a signal of the rational ability to determine what is just or unjust, as well as
harmful or unharmful to the peculiar man. This allows a rational man, with the help of other rational
people to decide what is right and wrong. If Aristotle associates rational animals with happiness and
politics, then the notion of rationality informs what Aristotle perceives to be a mans telos with is

History of Internet Essay examples
Without a doubt, the Internet is undergoing a major transition as it experiences a tremendous influx of
new users. Due to the anarchic, distributed nature of the net, we cannot even begin to enumerate the
population of the Internet or its growth. As more of the world s population moves on line, new
concerns will arise which did not confront the earlier generations. The new culture will demand
different resources, services and technology than the old generations expected and used. Already we
can witness a clash between the emergent culture and the entrenched culture. The largest conflicts
occurring now are about sharing resources, the impending commercialization of the net, and the
growing problem of computer crime.

little about computers and are more interested in the entertainment and information they can glean
from the net.
Commercial providers like America Online and Compuserve are beginning to open gateways from
their exclusive services to the open Internet, specifically allowing their users to access email, netnews

Why Hinduism Should Be Considered a World Religion
Introduction
Religion in the world today mostly depend on the number of adherents and the rate of at which they
increase in the world. While considering the statistics, studies indicate that Islam is the fastest growing
religion in the world and with a projection that by the year 2050, its popularity shall have increased
more than any other religion in the world. Alongside Islam is the Hinduism, religion which is also
projected to have a faster growth rate and according to research in 2011(Gerald 20), it had grown in
various countries mainly due to migration from India. The growth rate of Hinduism is projected at two

Unlike other religions across the world, Hinduism does not have a specific way of worship, or a god
and scriptures to be used. The religion that is considered to be the oldest has an array of beliefs and
practices within it, and therefore many have always referred to it as a family religion or a way of life.
In the recent years, it has been established that there is a way in conformation to an almost similarity
among the Hindus, and a larger population now consider a sacred text known as Veda and have a
shared system of values known as dharma.
Religion can be characterized by the existence of belief and faith that something is acceptable and
should be practiced without questioning or confirmation. In the Hindu religion, it can be confirmed
that the way many things are characterized and the belief in the consequences of a person s conduct
can be categorically defined as faith. For instance, in Hindu, there is a belief that the individual soul is
not created, but it has been in existence and will continue to exist. Just like in other religions whereby
the actions of a person reaps the consequences in the next phase of life, Hindus, however, believe that
the souls will one day comeback to life in a different form, which utterly depends on the consequences
of its actions before the rebirth. The kind of body that the soul will inhabit after that is determined by
Karma, which is a term used to refer to actions

GONZALES v. CARHART, CHRISTINA GOTTFRIED, February 19, 2015, ISSUE #4
FACTS: in 1973 with the passing of Roe v. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to privacy in
which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however, this right was not
confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the central
holdings of Roe v. Wade were reaffirmed, by providing limits in which federal and state governments
can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the
woman still has a right to choose, which lead to allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless
the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in 2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to
consider a Nebraska state law that was passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was
unconstitutional, which it was found to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the

Social Sin Invictus
Invictus is a movie based on the real life story of how Nelson Mandela united the country of South
Africa through the sport of rugby. To give some background, before Nelson Mandela became the first
black president of South Africa (which made his presidency very historic), he had been a prisoner on
Robben Island for almost 30 years while South Africa was under the cruel regime of Apartheid.
Apartheid was introduced in 1948 by the white National Party government to make segregation
between whites and blacks legal. The non white majority of the population was forced to live in
separate areas and used separate facilities. Contact between whites and non whites was very restricted.
Marriage between races was banned by the government. Blacks were ... Show more content on

de Klerk. When Mandela was elected president, he inherited a country that was still pretty fresh out of
50 years of Apartheid rule. Attitudes by whites and blacks don t change overnight just because there is
a new president. There was huge racial tensions and rampant poverty to deal with. Crime rates were
also high. Mandela was very concerned about violence erupting between whites and non whites.
Rather than live with bitterness and resentment over his imprisonment and the terrible treatment of the
black population, Mandela chose the route of forgiveness and looked for a way to bring the country
back together. Sport can be enjoyed by all parts of the population whether rich or poor, black or white,
educated or not. When Mandela publicly supported the mostly white Springbok rugby team, as a black
president, he was leading by example. What he did was completely unexpected both in the eyes of
whites and non whites. He gained the trust of whites and helped blacks see that the only way to move
forward in a positive way was to forgive the sins of the past and work for reconciliation. When the
black President came out on the field for the World Cup final wearing the Springbok jersey in front of
a mostly white crowd (and in front of the world via TV) he put South Africa on a journey that would
change the country forever. He demonstrated that

Summary Of On Seeing His Works By Phillis Wheatley
To S.M a Young African Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley was written in a time when
the colonies were under the reign of the monarchy and the influence of the Pope, and Christianity was
still the dominant belief in the colonies largely due to the Protestant and Puritan immigrants. The
colonies were still subjects of the British and Wheatley was still loyal to the crown, having sent a
letter of praise to King George the third for his decision to repeal the Stamp Act in 1768, only 5 years
prior to this. To publish her book Poems on Subjects Religious and Moral, Phillis Wheatley had gone
to London and she was there around the time when the Tea tax was established; the legislature
beginning the dispute between the colonies and their homeland which would lead to the Boston Tea
party and eventually the revolution. This means that at this point, Wheatley was still loyal to the
British. This context helps us to know that since this poem was written ... Show more content on

Echoing the rhyme of the word day in line 16, we see can compare the contexts to see the shift in how
Wheatley views the painting. The terms shades of time (23) and everlasting (24) set the poem in a
place beyond our world constrained by time, a place like heaven where there is everlasting life. Lines
25 and 26 ask what we will do in this seraphic (25) place and what perspective we will have on the
landscapes from the realms above (26). When used in religious context, this would imply that we
might gain a new perspective when we can see the glory of God through untainted eyes. The painting
then might become just an empty vessel that fails to mimic the Glory of God rather than the creation

Survival in solitude Essays
Survival in solitude After being stranded on an uninhabited island, Robinson Crusoe manages to
discover his natural abilities that serve as indicators of his true character. At first glance the common
adage, Necessity is the mother of all inventions, appears to account for the character of Robinson
Crusoe; however, further analysis suggests that the intelligence, industriousness, and optimism are
inherent to Crusoe s personality. Sir Francis Bacon so aptly stated, Prosperity doth best discover vice;
but adversity doth best discover virtue. From the moment that Crusoe was stranded on the island until
the day he was rescued he exhibits these qualities.

As he puts it in his journal:
I had never handled a tool in my life, and yet in time, by labor, application, and contrivance, I found at
last that I wanted nothing but I could have made it, especially if I had tools...(488)
Through his narration it is evident that this inherent intelligence allows him to adapt to his long and
lonely life on the island. The format of the novel itself, that of a journal, indicates that Crusoe is
highly educated so that he is able to write and express his thoughts clearly.
Furthermore, Crusoe s hard working nature forces him to do more than what is strictly necessary in
order to sustain himself. When unloading the cargo off the ship, he works endlessly until the task is
completed although he could have taken a lighter approach to the job. Rather than being complacent
about his comforts Crusoe was industrious and salvages all that he could from the ship. He labors hard
to bring all the steel cables, tools, and any munitions that he could find, even though he may not need
some of the items immediately. Crusoe also gathers on his twelfth and last trip little knickknacks like
coins and razor blades. When he begins using the cave as his shelter, he works hard in order to create
shelves so that he can organize his belongings. He fashions himself with a goatskin jacket, skirts, cap,
footwear, and pouches for his weaponry. If he is not inherently

or things mostly people. Okonkwo has a low temper and it all came from the man who made him and
he hates that.
As far as this goes he never has sympathy for anybody no matter who you are. I think it started with
his dad and how people would say he was the worst and he never did anything so Okonkwo Decided
not to go that road so he made something of himself but little as he knows he changed for the worst
and not the better. Throughout this book somebody is always either getting hurt being saved or just

Slavery And The American Dream
Slaves they are products of a lost mind and irresponsible love. Now when I say a slave I am not
talking about someone who is the property of someone else that must obey his or her every command.
I am talking about the slavery of the mind that has run like wild fire among the black community.
However sad it may be, our own kind are making their children into slaves. There are few things that
have had such an impact on making slaves as the topics that I am about to mention. Which all will
take place within a child s first five years of life So when the new media talks about all the mystics
about how blacks are thug and criminals what else do they aspect. You have taught a person to hate
every aspect of them and to shun other with like features and to strive for the American dream, by the
way the American dream is white. So there is no place for a black colored skin person too belong in
the American dream. Not allowing someone to have any place in this world forces them to come
crashing into life.
Because at the end of the day it is up to you and you only to make sure you don t die and survive. So
now that theory are not only slave black people in this world there are also educated blacks that are
compared to these and are given no hope by society, because of a person of the same skin type has all

Students Of Mattawan s Ap Environmental Class
On October 6th 2015, the students of Mattawan s AP Environmental class took a trip to the local
stream of the Mattawan Consolidated Schools area. The purpose of this trip was to conduct a stream
study to determine the health, conditions, and pollution levels of this small body of water. A multitude
of factors came into play when making a judgement on the stream s health, and making sure to take all
of these essential points was crucial to the study. A variety of thorough experiments were conducted to
help make this overlying conclusion, as many students adopted many roles in the study. Students used
a physical survey form, water test data sheet, and taxa recording sheet to record their findings.
Teamwork was essential in making sure all of this information could be found accurately and
efficiently. The combination of all of the final results allowed the class to make a judgement of the
stream s state. For the convenience of the students, a packet for recording the stream s content and
results was provided. On the first and second page, tables for seeing the taxa types of aquatic
macroinvertebrates found were laid out, and students were to check the boxes with the names of the
taxa they found in this area. Students entered the stream with a large water strain, and put dirt from the
stream and carried it out of the stream to be examined. After observing several catches from the
stream, the group one taxa findings included Stonefly nymph, Mayfly nymph, and Dobson fly nymph.

Descartes Resolution Of Doubt
Question 1: The Resolution of Doubt: Descartes Theological Premise of Cogito, ergo sum and Locke s
Adaptation of Cartesian Principles
The argument put forth by Rene Descartes defines the importance of discerning knowledge through
sensory perception and the origination of an idea within the mind. These internal mental processes are
the primary rationale for understanding the human soul, and the mind as being created by the
omnipotence power of God. This basis for knowledge arises to resolve the issue of an idea being
distorted by the senses, since God is the creator of human thoughts in the mind:
The idea, I say, of this Being who is absolutely perfect and infinite, is entirely true; for although,
perhaps, we can imagine that such a Being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to the rational mind, Locke believed that God gave human beings the basis for reasoning:
Men have Reason to be well satisfied with what God hath thought fit for them (45). However, in
contrast to this view, Locke argues against the idea of a pre existing God because of the weakness of
human memory: But yet possibly it will be objected, suppose I wholly lose the memory of some parts
of my life (342). This argument refutes the Cartesian premise that God provides human beings with a
pre ordained memory of existence, which Locke has proven to be false through memory and
consciousness. In my own personal view, I believe that Locke s empiricist is flawed since he relies in
God s gift of reasoning for human beings, which is now being denied as a causality of the doubting
method of knowledge he is now proposing through memory loss. If anything, Locke relies very
heavily on Descartes theory of the mind and God, which illustrates why the resolution of Cartesian
doubt is a more logical argument on the issue of resolving doubt. Epistemologically, much of Locke s
own empirical method of resolving doubt is based on Descartes assumption of God s role in providing
ideas and rationality to the human race. Therefore, it cannot be assumed that Locke provides anything
more about the method of

The Pros And Cons Of Alcohol Drinking
As a student that went to the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, and Bradford I noticed that the
Alcohol policies are different. The handbook states The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville prohibits
the possession, consumption, or sale of alcoholic beverages on campus by all students and their
visitors or guests, including those of legal age (UPT Handbook) The Alcohol policy for UPT is no
alcoholic beverage on campus. This makes sense for the kids under twenty one, but what about the
adults above the age of twenty one? My time at UBP I noticed that the drinking rules were a little bit
different then at UPT. Resident students who are 21 and older may possess alcoholic beverages for
their personal consumption and may not exceed the following limits: A. 12 cans or bottles of beer; or
B. one 750 ml (0.75 liter) bottle of distilled spirits; or C. one 750 ml (0.75 liter) bottle of wine. (UPB
Handbook) This is good for the campus because it lets the students relax in their dorms instead of out
at bars, and wasting their money. Not only does it limit the amount of money that is spent on Alcohol,
it limits the risk of drunk driving, fighting and more of a chance the police will be called. The
universities could flourish when it comes to sales of alcoholic beverages on their campuses. They
could sell it during games and major events. The revenue would be a noticeable difference for the
university because they could mark the price up on any beverage being sold. They

Taking a Look at Chinese Culture
Those traditions have passed on to my family and society. According to Jandt (2003), Confucian
philosophy, which believes in harmony in society through respect to age and social hierarchy, affects
Chinese strongly. Confucianism has various effects on Chinese communication. As a Chinese, we
value Filial Piety and belong to collectivism. I may not say what I really want to mean when I think it
would hurt others. Foreigners such as Americans may feel surprised that HongKongers pay attention
to family so much. If Americans are asked to take a gap year in which be travelling around and their
parents disagree, most of them won t cancel the trip. For me, I would give up the trip honestly and this
may be a main difference between our values towards family. I like the culture I grew up in and the
tradition my family has. Respecting elders is what should be appreciated. I would like my generation
to keep the culture too; however, we can learn the advantages of other cultures. Individualism allows
us to fulfill obligations to self and to be independent. HongKongers can take balance between two
cultures and get improvement for our own.
Chinese is in high context culture and foreigners usually feel confused when I communicate with
them. In communication of Chinese, many things are left unsaid. We let the culture explain so that few
words can communicate a complex message. Although it is effective to in group, there are difficulties
in the communication with foreigners. During the

An Introduction Of Navajo Constellations
An Introduction to Navajo Constellations Throughout our existence, mankind has looked up to the
stars with a fantastical wonderment that excites a feeling of the unknown. In order to understand the
heavens above us, ancient cultures created grand mythologies utilizing valiant heroes, gods, and life
practices and then imbedded these stories into the stars in the form of constellations. One of these
cultures is the Navajo Native American tribe that resided in the southwest region of the United States.
By viewing these constellations and the myths behind them, we can learn about what they Navajo held
scared and how they viewed the world around them. An important aspect of Navajo culture is the time
period in which traditional stories can be told. Stories of the sky which include the moon, sun, and
stars can only be told during the winter months which is regarded as the time from the first first,
usually in October, until the first thunderstorm, usually in late February. It is currently winter as this is
being written so the following information falls in accordance with Navajo tradition. We ask that this
only be read and shared during the appropriate time period to respect the traditions of a most noble
people. The Navajo are the largest federally recognized Native American Indian tribe in the United
States. The Diné Bikéyah or Navajoland encompasses 27,000 square miles residing within Arizona,

Within one s identity are personality characteristics of who he or she is. For Amanda two of her identity characteristics are independence and stubbornness. These two characteristic traits have been caused by a significant event in her life. And now shape who she is and how she communicates. As a child Amanda went through many different changes in life. Through each divorce her family went through the more independent she became. For Amanda, independence also brought along the characteristic trait of stubbornness. However her personality did not like that. It wasn t that she didn t appreciate the gift but it was more that her independent side didn t need someone, especially a male, to buy her anything. She could buy the purse herself. For instance, this young man had bought her a very expensive purse just because. Amanda remembers returning home and being very disappointed that he had done this. She wanted to buy this purse herself. She didn t want it to be bought for her or just handed to her. She felt that when someone did something like this for her that it s because they want to be better than her and or have her rely on them. Also because of her stubbornness she was very reluctant when it came to accepting that gift. In the end, she ended up secretly giving that purse to a friend and going to purchase that same purse herself. She did not tell the guy that she did this. But instead kept that to herself just so that she didn t upset him, or hurt him. Amanda let him think that that was the same purse he had given her. • 4. Book Review On My Year Of Meats By Ozeki My year of meats is a novel by Ruth Ozeki, exploring the differences between the food cultures of America and Japan, with the aim of establishing generalizations on both. Through the exploration of the Japanese and American views and culture on food, and beef products in general points out the differences in the views of the people from the two countries. As an example, Akiko s husband believes that, if she learned to cook and eat an American diet full of meat, it would be easier for her to grow fatter and to get pregnant (Ozeki 21). In his attempts to make her adopt the American diet, he compelled Akiko to watch the show, my American wife, where each weekly half hour episode...culminated in the celebration of a featured meat, climaxing in its glorious consumption (Ozeki 8). The fact that Japanese such as John embraced the American diet as the solution to their health problems points out the acceptance of the superiority of America s food culture. The review of the food cultures of the two countries, stereotypes about food, the conception of food culture, and the revelations to be drawn from food culture will point out the fundamental differences between the Japanese and American people and their food cultures. • 5. Montessori Cultural Competence Cultural competence methods involved materials related to the arts, science, and social science. Montessori cultural activities have an important language component. Teaching different cultures to children are important. It helps them to have an appreciation for other nationalities, cultural backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, languages, and act. Dr. Maria Montessori would create classrooms that were filled with many different objects that are associated with other parts of the country. Each student will take part of the activity that involves the paths of culture. As children learn different aspects of culture this allows the children to understand how each culture differs and hopefully become a participating and contributing member of society. Montessori education for young children helps to increase their independency to adult hood. Children are allowed to learn at their own pace, rather than learn at another child pace. This learning concept helps to develop long term experiences that the child will carry on into adulthood. It focusses on less dependency on a teacher for guidance. It allows a child to make decisions based on their way of learning. The teachers are present during the learning phases. However, the child is responsible to think strategic and come to realistic conclusions. In return, the child will succeed because the child is learning at his/her own pace. • 6. Musical Critique One way I became more involved in university life by going to Oklahoma!. Not the state, but rather the musical put on by the university. My suitemate Anna auditioned to be a part of it, and when she got the part, she invited us all to watch opening night on November 13th. I had been to a few musicals near my hometown, but they were rather lackluster and not very well produced. This left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to amateur theatre performances, so I hesitated in buying tickets for Oklahoma!. When I talked to my teaching assistant, she persuaded me to give it a try because I might have a very different experience. I am glad that I went, because the performance was a very vibrant show that meshed the excitement of college students with the pioneer lifestyle of the great plains. The musical was very lively, portraying life in the territory of Oklahoma, and focuses on several young couples attending the local formal. Laurey is invited by Curley to a dance, but she decides to go with the farmhand Jud instead to make Curley jealous. Curley attempts to win her back because he feels that Jud is dangerous and disgusting, and he is in love with Laurey. Simultaneously, Ado Annie cannot make up her mind which man she will marry, Will or the peddler Ali Hakim. Will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found Oklahoma! to be very entertaining and hilarious, but it also included some dark aspects, such as date rape and suicide. The way the writers integrated these darker scenes kept the musical from being too lighthearted, but still relevant and enjoyable to the audiences. Secondly, this musical increased my appreciation for the arts. From my previous experiences in live theatres, I was not expecting the actors to be so well rounded in singing, acting and dancing. Although I am not inclined to act in front of an audience, I really enjoyed the show and plan to attend more musicals on stage next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim. With new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the new science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by evidence proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific claim is proven to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re evaluated and proven to be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in the evolution of knowledge? How do we know what scientific fact is reliable? When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and they must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet from the sun? International Astronomical Union changed the status of Pluto by reclassifying as a dwarf planet because it did not meet the criteria of a planet. More significant claims have been made and many people are aware of some well known superseded scientific theories and wonder why they were believed to be true in the first place. A ... • 8. Comparison Of The Devil And Miss Prym The book The Devil And Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho and the movie Hero starring Jet Li even though in different languages, share a plethora of similarities. The Devil And Miss Prym tells the story of a young woman from the village of Visco, Chantal Prym. Her life was very simple and seemed so innocent, until the devil walked into Visco and offered her something she so strongly felt she deserved a way out of Visco. Of course there was a small price to pay, somebody had to die. After this day Chantal lived with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, constantly fighting to win her over. In the end God s light shined brighter and Chantal was able to make the right decisions. The movie, saving herself and her village. Hero by Jet Li was about an orphaned, nameless, assassin who blamed the King for the death of his family, and wanted revenge. He was able to get within 10 paces of the restless King making him believe he killed the 3 assassins that had been after him. The king soon realized that Nameless s story did not add up and he had to be an assassin. Even so, he chose a different fate, because of what broken sword had taught to him. This was his highest ideal, and with that knowledge the desire to kill no longer existed, only peace, not revenge. When not blinded by hate he was able to see the King s mission to unite all of China, and Spared, his life only after passing on these wise words. Both stories main characters dealt a with a Person Versus Self battle, both Stories had common archetypes with some playing the innocent and others the Sage, and both stories share a philosophy and that is utilitarianism. In both of these stories the biggest battle of all was fought within the mind of the main character. Chantal faced this throughout much of the story as she questioned should she steal the gold? Should she tell the villagers of the message the devil shared with her? Should she help Berta? It was a tough battle between her morals, her ego and what she felt she deserved after living her whole life in Visco, even though she was different than everyone else there. In the end she ended up realizing she wasn t so different from them after all. She was able to fight the temptation, even though she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Why We Shouldn T Use Instagram Essay Why Kids shouldn t use Instagram There are many reasons why kids should not use Instagram. Due to the excessive explicit material, that kids at such young ages should not be exposed to. There are however some good reasons for kids to use Instagram. Instagram gives children a chance to express their creative and talented sides, while using the art of photography and picture editing, but like any good thing there is always someone out there that s got to ruin it for everyone else. In the perfect society, you wouldn t have to worry about your children having to be stalked or possibly harmed by people who need help with their problems relating to underage child addiction, but this world is far from perfect so there should be some kind of guide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of which would be the use and enforcement of safety programs or failsafe systems for parents to implement child locks on their Instagram. If we can find a way to block channels on the television, and block inappropriate web pages from our computers then we should be able to apply the same sort of safety control to our social media pages as well. According to a post from an article titled 5 Instagram Safety Tips for Teens by Ali DeCesare, There are privacy settings on Instagram that allow you to determine who follows you. With privacy settings, sending out a request is the only way to become a follower of someone. This way is a lot safer than having a public profile because only those who you approve to follow you can see your pictures. Privacy settings also keep away unwanted followers because everyone who wants to follow you has to go through your dashboard and be approved by you. Without Privacy Settings on, it isn t only your followers who can see your picture. Anyone can search your profile and find your pictures and profile if you don t have Privacy Settings on. This is my exact point, Instagram has setting in place for your safety but sometimes, children have a tendency to go behind parents back and undo these safety features. If parents aren t checking their children s devices on a daily basis then kids could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Popular Culture And The Theory Of Pop Culture I believe that the phenomenon of greeting banners by communities and families is a kind of pop culture. Popular culture or pop culture is a kind of phenomena that becomes mainstreams in a certain culture, in this case the culture of Balinese people. Balinese people take a new form of the way they deliver their Hari raya greeting, that is through banner and it somehow become popular and mainstreams. So what the importance of studying or doing research about pop culture is to find out the underplaying assumption, the power behind the pop culture and the moral, attitude and philosophical construct of the society that implement the pop culture. From it, we can get a better understanding about how that certain society works and how their perception and behavior are shaped by the pop culture. The Career As An Educator A career as an educator is a highly rewarding and equally challenging position, a teacher is not only responsible for the academic success of their pupils but the social development as well, this is especially true as a second language teacher. It is through my own experience as a student and a prospective teacher that I ve developed my own beliefs and philosophy about teaching. I believe that there are certain things that can t be compromised or short sold for example, classroom environment and the needs of the learner. There does however, need to be a certain level of flexibility both with the teacher and the techniques and methodologies employed. There are many attributes that make an effective teacher, some include; creativity, compassion, and leadership. These qualities coupled with knowledge of the material and language learning experience can fortify learning for the students. Through the course of this semester many approaches and techniques have been discussed, elaboration on their benefits and uses and how to utilize them best in a language learning setting have been highlighted. Through the presentation of all the information it seems that no single approach or technique can satisfy the needs of every learner, and that the most pertinent message to teachers is to know what the needs of your students are individually, and cater lessons for those needs using a variety of techniques. That being said I will discuss some approaches and techniques that I found the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Aristotle Rational Animals I do agree with proposition 3: Humans are rational animals and proposition 4: Reasoning and speech are perfects of ration animals. Man, is a rational animal because he possesses the power of speech. Other animals use their voice to express their pain and pleasure, but only human voices are charged with reason. Speech is a signal of the rational ability to determine what is just or unjust, as well as harmful or unharmful to the peculiar man. This allows a rational man, with the help of other rational people to decide what is right and wrong. If Aristotle associates rational animals with happiness and politics, then the notion of rationality informs what Aristotle perceives to be a mans telos with is Eudaimonia. Telos means an end goal. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to privacy in which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however, this right was not confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the central holdings of Roe v. Wade were reaffirmed, by providing limits in which federal and state governments can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the woman still has a right to choose, which lead to allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in 2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to consider a Nebraska state law that was passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was unconstitutional, which it was found to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the health of the mother and that the language used was so broad that it burdened a woman s right to choose. Then, in 2007, the case of Gonzales v. Carhart raised the issue once again on a federal law that had been passed, the Partial Birth Ban Act of 2003. The lower courts claimed it to be unconstitutional because of the lack of exception for the health of the mother. Descartes Resolution Of Doubt Question 1: The Resolution of Doubt: Descartes Theological Premise of Cogito, ergo sum and Locke s Adaptation of Cartesian Principles The argument put forth by Rene Descartes defines the importance of discerning knowledge through sensory perception and the origination of an idea within the mind. These internal mental processes are the primary rationale for understanding the human soul, and the mind as being created by the omnipotence power of God. This basis for knowledge arises to resolve the issue of an idea being distorted by the senses, since God is the creator of human thoughts in the mind: The idea, I say, of this Being who is absolutely perfect and infinite, is entirely true; for although, perhaps, we can imagine that such a Being ... In regards to the rational mind, Locke believed that God gave human beings the basis for reasoning: Men have Reason to be well satisfied with what God hath thought fit for them (45). This argument refutes the Cartesian premise that God provides human beings with a pre ordained memory of existence, which Locke has proven to be false through memory and consciousness. In my own personal view, I believe that Locke s empiricist is flawed since he relies in God s gift of reasoning for human beings, which is now being denied as a causality of the doubting method of knowledge he is now proposing through memory loss. If anything, Locke relies very heavily on Descartes theory of the mind and God, which illustrates why the resolution of Cartesian doubt is a more logical argument on the issue of resolving doubt.
