This document outlines the criteria and evaluation instruments for a phlebotomy training course. The goals are for learners to acquire the skills to accurately select vein sites, perform over 100 successful blood draws, and know how to redirect the needle if no blood is obtained. Learners must demonstrate how to palpate veins, perform successful sticks in the classroom, and do two-step redirects without panicking. Evaluations include a written exam, skill evaluations using models, and tracking successful versus unsuccessful blood draws. Overall, engaging learners, teaching proper techniques, and requiring successful real-world draws is designed to produce confident and caring phlebotomists.
