Culture Grid Museums, libraries and archives are using technology in a huge variety of creative & innovative ways. We are increasingly generating content capable of holding its own against the best consumer offerings. The purpose of the Culture Grid is to advertise this content to mainstream audiences, and to drive them to your sites, by working in partnership with established media providers such as the BBC and Google. The Culture Grid is just infrastructure – it has no website, mandates no particular standard (although OAI would be nice) and has no view on the quality of the content.

Culture Grid Applications: Hosted Search Enabling any user to create their own parameter search (of their own collections, other people’s collections, institution details etc). Providing a code snippet to embed a high-performance, faceted search into your site or service. Developing Software Dev Kits for the main Collections Management Systems Providing Open API to enable you to repurpose the content
Culture Grid Applications: Data Hosting Hosting large datasets Hosting rich media Working with partners to deliver hosted digital preservation Developing a low-cost web hosting offer Working towards Cloud-based hosting solutions
Culture Grid Applications: BBC CenturyShare Flash-based interactive timeline Embedding cultural content alongside BBC Archive footage Currently an internal BBC pilot for evaluation
