Editor's Notes
- Europeana includes all aspects of the archaeological heritage from European museums, galleries, libraries and archives. The content ranges in time from the Palaeolithic to the modern era and includes the movable and immovable heritage, archaeological landscapes, and archaeological archives.
- The Europeana Publishing framework sets out 4 tiers. I’m not going to speak very much about tier 1, the entry level, as our project focuses on providing content at tier 2 and above. Moving up the tiers involves providing higher quality content which is more openly accessible, and in this way allowing the content to be showcased for re-use.
- There are currently 1.3 million items (at tier 2 or above) available to browse in the thematic “Archaeology” collection on Europeana.
- Wonders is an educational game developed by an Italian start-up company, Art Stories, which uses openly licenced content to provide parents and teachers with a fun way of educating young children about the cultural heritage.
- The Europeana Archaeology project will directly result in increasing the amount of high-quality openly licenced content relating to the archaeology theme in Europeana.
