The producers in this ecosystem are the phytoplankton, hornwort, papyrus reeds and the algae
which manufacture their food using the energy from the sun, however, the plants are growing in
an area with plastic waste. This waste will be absorbed and will accumulate within the plant. The
planktons, hornwort and papyrus reeds acts as food to the primary consumers such as the
butterflies, sardines, turtles and brass carp, as they feed, there is the transfer of the accumulated
plastic waste materials to this trophic level from the producers. However, the amount of the
plastic waste decreases from one trophic level to another across the ecosystem. The butterflies,
sardines and the turtles are consumed by leopard frog, larger fish such as brass carp and other
fish. In this category, they are secondary consumers, here again the bio accumulated plastic

wastes are transferred to this group of secondary consumers. Other organisms such as magpie
goose, leopard frog and water buffalo in this case are also secondary consumers.
Finally, crocodile, which is the tertiary consumer, feeds on the water buffalo, the magpie goose,
turtles, leopard frog and wallabies which are the secondary consumers. The crocodile is eaten by
the scavengers such as large cats for example lions, tigers. The crocodiles are also eaten by
human. The plastic wastes in this case gets to this group of consumers and reach the highest
trophic level of the system, however at lower levels as compared to the previous trophic level.
