How to transition Pakistan towards a knowledge based economyMoazzam Husain
In this new race, economic competition among nations will be less on physical assets and more on knowledge assets. Pakistan must take urgent and substantive steps to build its ecosystem and knowledge culture to leapfrog ahead. What needs to be done? In my course on Marketing Strategies for Emerging Economies, Summer 2019 students of the Institute of Business Management, Karachi, Pakistan were asked to come up with recommendations. This is an example of some of the best work submitted.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

September 11, 2001 and May 2011.

direct and indirect economic costs of terrorism
from 2000–2010 total $68 billion.
13
14. The Causes of Terrorism: -
All terrorist acts are motivated by Social
and political injustice, People choose terrorism
when they are trying to right what they perceive
to be a social or political or historical wrong
when they have been stripped of their land or
rights, or denied these.
The belief that violence or its threat will be

also very necessary.

• The government of Pakistan should enter
into serious negotiation with Washington

sovereignty should be preserved as we
reserve the right to undertake actions on
our own land
• A concrete time table of withdrawal from
Afghanistan needs to be announced by the
U.S led force
19. Problems in Education of Pakistan
Education is considered as the
cheapest defense of a nation. But the down
trodden condition of education in Pakistan bears
an ample testimony of the fact that it is unable to
defend its own sector.
Though 67 years have been passed
and 23 policies and action plans have been
introduced yet the educational sector is waiting
for an arrival of a savior.
19
20. Following are the problems in education
in Pakistan :-
Education System is based on Unequal
Lines
Regional Disparity
Ratio of Gender Discrimination
Lack of Technical Education
Funds
Untrained Teachers Poverty
20
22. Solutions for Educational System: -
There should be same system of Education for
every one.
Implementation instead of projecting policies
should be focused on.
Allocation of funds should be made easy from
provinces to districts and then to educational
institutes.
Workshops must be arranged for teachers.
Technical education must be given to all the
classes.
22
23. 23 LAW of Pakistan about education: -

Pakistan where it is still perceived to be
widespread and systemic.
• Petty corruption in the form of bribery is
prevalent in law enforcement, procurement
and the provision of public services.
• The judiciary is not seen as independent and
considered to be shielding corrupt political
practices from prosecution.
33

The expert sources indicate that the
following sectors are among the most
affected by the corruption.
Police and Law enforcement.
Judiciary and legal Professions.
Power Sector.

• Various efforts over the past years have
tried to develop institutional mechanisms
to address these problems.
• A National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which
was developed in 2002, offers a
comprehensive plan for tackling
corruption.
35
36. • The executing agency, the National
Accountability Bureau (NAB), is endowed
with comprehensive powers to investigate
and prosecute cases.
• However, a lack of political will, coupled
with the perceived co-option of the
judiciary and the arbitrariness of many
anti-corruption proceedings, are major
obstacle.
