3. Experiential Learning
CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Knowledge results from the
combination of grasping (observation) and transforming reflections into action (concrete experience)
(Kolb, 1894). Nursing is a practice profession. Clinical experience in the clinical setting is the integral
part of the total education process for nursing students. (Estrella Cuarezma Sanchez, 1998) The
clinical exposure of a student nurse is an experience that is not to be taken for granted. It is as
important (if not more so) than the classroom lectures. In the field, the student nurse is allowed to
experience dealing with actual patients and witnessing medical cases first hand. That is the reason why
it is imperative that the student nurse make the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sheth (2008) sighted that private hospitals possesses centralized care. Therefore, student nurses are
exposed to a conducive learning brought by ideal nursing practice exhibited in the health care setting.
In the said type of hospital, Colladilla and Argos (2000) claimed more opportunities available both
professionally and personally for its staff. Thus, student nurses in return could profit from it. Also,
these hospitals are equipped with well maintained facilities, highly technologic equipment and
complete medical supplies. (Johns, 2000) Thus, familiarization begins and would further evolve to
learning. Adequate manpower plus limited handled patients could provide a centralized care.
However, there are also disadvantages. Limited assignments are given to student nurses because they
make sure they give quality care to patients due to patient s payment for services rendered. There are
strict norms associated with providing health care interventions. Herewith, staffs nurses have
significant liability to their patients. They can not afford to make mistakes. That is why, unlike in
public hospitals, students learn more through observation of the different procedures done in the
hospital. Public hospital provides culturally competent care (Vaknin, 2008). In public hospitals,
student nurses learn from actual experience. They can assume

Diy Bathroom Mirror Frame
Bathroom mirror frames are the things that can make the mirrors in the bathroom look more
wonderful. That is one of the reasons why many people want to install the decorative trim as the frame
around the plain mirror that they have in their bathroom. Then, there are some steps that you have to
follow in installing the frames of your bathroom mirrors.
The first thing you have to do is to measure and select the frame style. You have to measure the mirror
and the frames that you want to install specifically and precisely. So then, you can use the
measurement to cut the appropriate trims as you need. The second is you have to prepare the work
area, which means that you have to start laying out all of the trims, and gather

5. The Present Day College Admission Marketplace
The present day college admission marketplace in the United States is part of an extensive historical
evolution. In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit industry led to the
first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The subsequent
professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen
institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants
(Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the release of the first U.S. News World Report rankings in 1983
(Morse, 2008), public perception of college admission significantly shifted and colleges began to
adopt widespread enrollment management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the
other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the
basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic
philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on
their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches,
meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward
for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as
resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students
based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include
the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and
nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002).
These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s
circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. The final philosophical model evaluates
students based on their ability to contribute to the institution and society if admitted, both in the short
run and long run. In the short run,

6. A Study Of Warfare During The Modern Era
A study of warfare in the modern era suggest a progression through three distinct generations.
Although U.S. Armed Forces are still coming to grips with the third of these, strong trends point to an
emerging fourth generation. Those who would prepare for future warfare must consider the trends
envisaged here and the challenges they would present to existing forces.
As the world devolves into nations with less clear borders than perhaps any time in recent military
history with the closest example being the 100 years war in Europe and finds itself possessing of
enemies that heretofore have been much easier to classify there is a distinct change arising in the face
of war. If one thinks back to the classic wars of recent U.S. history one can see clearly defined lines of
this nation verses that nation and here are the bad guys and here is where we are and where we will
launch operations.
As borders blur and groupings become more difficult to define the United States finds itself at a
crossroads in history that, moving forward, will determine victory or defeat but also deeply impact
strategy. So the research question to be answered here is, How will the United States change its
strategy and definitions of states and even war in the face of rapidly changing lines of distinction
between the two aforementioned terms?
Some of these answers will be found in the analysis of the rapidly changing policy of the United
States war on terror, but will also be found in articles as

[T]he utility in diverse theories in interpretation does not imply the simultaneous truth of all the claims

one theory must be used to interpret fully a single work of text (Garrett 124). James Joyce s short story
The Dead is used to portray this statement in Garrett s article Six Theories in the Bedroom of The
Dead. As noted by the title of the article, Garrett analyzes James Joyce s story using more than one
literary theory and a general reflection at the end to recap his work (Garrett 123). Garrett takes time to

A perfect example is Gabriel s reaction to Lily s snap in regard to her private life, he coloured, as if he
felt he had made a mistake from which he promptly kicked off his galoshes and ran away (Joyce 298).
Does this reaction prompt questioning of his past? How might the reader examine the text to find out
the answer? With further elaboration on psychoanalysis, the reader may be able to answer such
questions. The idea of delving deeper into the psychosis of Gabriel may aid the reader by creating a
richer and more fulfilling picture of his character; conversely, stressing knowledge about the context
of the period is also important. The article holds a plethora of knowledge on the theories used to
analyze The Dead ; however, the reader thinks that the author leaves out potentially enlightening
information about the importance of background information. Such information would include
international events, historic events on the continent to which the story is taking place, and influential
events in the author s life. These would help the reader to understand the characters a little better by
showing, for example, why Gabriel might be insulted at Miss Ivors calling him a West Briton (Joyce
303). He is insulted due to the poor political connection that Ireland and England have, meaning, that

Title: Comparative evaluation of anaesthetic efficacy of articaine and lignocaine using a single buccal
infiltration for extraction of primary molars Introduction: An important aspect of patient management
in dentistry is pain control, which is mainly achieved using local anaesthetic drugs (PD). Lidocaine
being the safest is the most commonly used (JMOS) and has served as a gold standard in local
anaesthetic drugs for the past 50 years (pd). It has revolutionized pain control in dentistry since it was
introduced in late 1940s (Malamed). It is an amide anaesthetic with a short onset of action and an
intermediate duration of anaesthesia when associated with adrenaline(BDJ). Local anaesthetic
injections trigger pain and anxiety in children, employing lidocaine for palatal injection is considered
as more painful, because palatal mucosa is compact and tightly bound to the underlying periosteum.
Also, mild to moderate pain of the palatal injection is relatively poorly tolerated due to the abundant
nerve supply in palatal tissue (PD). The Inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) is principally employed
to obtain local analgesia for children s mandibular posterior teeth. It has been reported that the IANB
has the highest level of patient discomfort when compared with infiltration, palatal injection, mental
nerve block or periodontal ligament injections. The child s behaviour towards subsequent dental
treatment can be negatively influenced by an unpleasant treatment experience

The business environment at Canadian Shield Insurance suggests that it belongs to the Responsive
Solution Providers group in the Accenture IT Governance Model, which is characterized by a more
rapid rate of change and competitive advantage derived from operational efficiency. The insurance
industry constantly has to adjust to new government regulations and stipulations that affect many
business processes and systems. One major issue with the current ALPHA system is the complexity
involved in making modifications to the system whenever new regulations were put into place. In
addition, the sustainability for Canadian insurance companies [is] greatly depended on investments in
projects that increased customer service and improved operational efficiency (Stacey). Insurance
companies can gain competitive advantages over others by being efficiently superior, having a lower
cost structure, and providing better service to customers. Seamus believes that a new information
system will be essential to helping the company achieve this. Unfortunately, the new internal
information system, ISS, had already consumed an immense amount of time and money, making
decisions going forward that much more challenging. Decision Rights Seamus holds some of
responsibility of making a decision regarding Canadian Shield s IT system options, but also shares

11. Social Communication And Human Characteristics Of Social...
It is extremely important to understand the traits of social media and the human factors impacting
technology because if we did not, there would be a lot more miscommunications and
misunderstandings between people. For example, social media users need to understand that social
media communication is limited compared to face to face communication. Factors such as Temporal
Structure, which is the time it takes to send and receive a message, affect how effective social media
communication is. Also, Asynchronous communication, which is communication that occurs when
participants are not co present, could cause communication problems because the people who are
communicating might not be as involved in a conversation. Tone and other signs that people give off
to relay emotions and messages are not present in many social communication forms as well.
There are three key steps in the Perception Process. The first is to Observe someone s behavior and
determine what the behavior means. The second is to describe the behavior to the person objectively.
It is important to not show any approval or disapproval to their actions in this step. Next, you explain
your personal perception of the behavior. This step is very important because you let the person know
how YOU feel, and this will allow them to respond to your feelings accordingly. It is also important to
be ready to change or alter your perception based on the person s reaction to your perception checking
process.
Automatic social cognition or perception means that someone is arriving to conclusions about
situations, people, or themselves, without much conscious awareness or intention on what the future
effects might be. On the other hand, conscious or controlled cognition means that someone is stopping
to think about something intentionally, because they realise that their thoughts can affect what happens
in a situation. This means that automatic social cognition is always happening and can lead to
someone making decisions and judgements that are not very thought out or reasonable. One time I
made the automatic and unconscious assumption that someone was weird just because they watched
Japanese cartoons, I told my friend and this ended up spreading to the person I was

12. The Struggles And Accomplishments Of A Future Mission
Nicholas Brunelle 10/21/16 ESS 102 Research Paper Rough draft Summary: My science fiction paper
will describe the struggles and accomplishments of a future mission to mars with the goal of
producing a habitable base on the surface for extended stay and experimentation, written in a series of
journal entries by the crew. The mission will be a long term journey, having used research to
compensate for the effects of space travel on the human body to allow for a longer term residence,
spurred by the growing involvement of private industry growth in space travel. As this mission will be
primarily based on taking scientific research, the major concepts addressed throughout the logs will be
blackbodies, coronal mass ejections, magnetospheres, electromagnetic propulsion, solar sails, the
Hohmann transfer, the Martian atmosphere, Martian poles, and the health effects of microgravity. The
following research paper will address the latter concept, microgravity health effects, in order to
accurately depict the travel conditions of the crew members. Research: In order to fully understand the
effects of microgravity and when they are present, it is important to know exactly what is meant by
microgravity. Gravity is the attraction between two objects with mass and keeps us tethered in a way
to the Earth s surface (Dunbar). In orbit at 250 miles above the Earth s surface gravity is still at 88%,
and the Earth s gravitational pull still has significance well outside of its atmosphere,

13. Philip Anderson Ethical Dilemma
In this case, we have really two different points of view: in one side, there is Philip Anderson, the
Phoenix branch manager of Stuart Co., who manages a team with his ways, his idea, his experience
but the results do not reach the targets fixed by the firm. In the other side, there is the direction of
Stuart Co., which has opposite ideas to Philip Anderson. I will try to analyze the challenges Philip
Anderson faces from the point of view of costs of control and considering ethical concerns. Reading
this text, we could easily feel that Philip Anderson s work way is totally opposite to the firm way. The
sentence how far he [Philip Anderson] could bend without breaking shows the challenge of the alone

This last characteristic is one of the reason for which he is in a delicate situation with the branch. In
fact, Philip Anderson and his team do not reach the targets in term of budget but develop a lot of
relationships based on ethical dilemmas . When he sells the products or the services, he tries to satisfy
both the highest profit for Stuart Co. and the highest returns to the client. There is a famous proverb
which says the costumer is king that implies, the firm must be attentive to the customer s expectations.
Philip tries to find a compromise between both but the firm prefers establish long term relationship
just in the company s interest even if it acts unethically. Moreover, this kind of conflict between Philip
Anderson and Stuart Co. is a proof that it is difficult to establish a cost control respecting ethical
concerns. Indeed, to realize a cost control management, a firm has to fixed budget targets but these
objectives have to be possible and controllable. Perhaps in this case, the objectives fixed for Philip are
too difficult if the manager want to respect some virtues during the selling. For its success, an
enterprise has to realize a good turnover but this turnover is good only if there are some customers that
is why cost control is as important as ethical issues. With its thinking way, the branch of this firm does
not keep the focus on its manager (Philip Anderson) and on its customers. If I were Philip

14. The Dalai Lama And Chinese Anger
As I was mindlessly scrolling through my news feed, I took an extra glance at a video titled Lady
Gaga and the Dalai Lama talk kindness . Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long
afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This
sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing
offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video.
Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a
legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I
learned that his holiness the Dalai Lama himself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to
Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have
such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone
for simply having a publicized chat with him?
In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is
and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the
rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video
of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent.

...Nobody Cares For The Woods... : An Analysis Of The Destruction Of Nature In The Lord Of The
Rings If it has passed from the high and the beautiful to darkness and ruin, that was of old the fate of
Arda Marred... J.R.R. Tolkien Literature has brought awareness to the issue of the destruction of the
environment over the past century. The imagination s ability to capture this sense of holiness may also
help in a revisioning of the natural world, [in] a growing field of study called ecocriticism (Brawley
292). Many of the writers of the century used this perspective to change the views of the greater
population. For ecocritics, literature is a means to a paradigm shift... [which] replaces anthropocentric
worldviews with ecocentric worldviews, where the environment is viewed with respect (Brawley
293). The awareness helps people learn that ...[they] are living in an ecocrisis, where climate change,
extinction of species, deforestation, and overpopulation are threats to our survival... (Brawley 292).
One of the major people to take up this new form of criticism was J.R.R. Tolkien. The author always

and have always been; and I find human maltreatment of them as hard to bear as some find ill

17. Andrew Carnegie s The Gospel Of Wealth
There is a debate on whether or not the top one percent truly deserve the mass of wealth they have
come to claim. Many do not realize how unbalanced our wealth distribution is in the United States.
Many believe that the wealthy deserve higher tax rates or must redistribute their wealth amongst the
lower classes. Many see the wealthy as a terrible, greedy class. But one person thought the wealthy
class was a great, beneficial thing. That person was Andrew Carnegie, who was long story short, one
of the most successful businessmen ever. Like every coin, there is an opposite side and that side was
Karl Marx. Marx was a firm advocate of communism. He found mass amounts of wealth to be a bad
thing. He also believed that the wealthy only existed because of the working class and once the
working class could not find work, they will turn on the wealthy and destroy them. Marx believed that
the government should maintain equality amongst the people. However, Carnegie s ideas of wealth are

Syria (Ruys 2014). When fifteen teenagers were detained after painting a revolutionary slogan, The
people want the fall of the regime , on their school wall in Daraa, Syrian civilians were inspired after
the fall of the Tunisian regime and the people began to peacefully protest. President al Assad

in a brutal crackdown of the demonstrations (Ruys 2014). The violent attacks included sniper fire,

American planes The German Taube and the Nieuport Scout, which were produced in the second
world war. Actually, the poet intends to link the experience of two soldiers; one served in the first
world war which called Great War, and the other one is a soldier in the second world. David K.
Vaughan says that the main reason behind linking the two experiences from different times at one
poem is to convey that wars images are kept in the minds of the soldier, and wars always have the
same meanings but in new and different time (100). On the same hand, Hank Lazer believes that
Simpson links the WWI with WWII in this poem to suggest that wars are effective because of the
futility of heroism throughout wars (187). He claims that the main reason behind considering Simpson
s poems some of the best war poems is the sense of hallucination that found in his shadowy characters.
He provides the soldiers narration of their dairies with hallucinatory quality

22. Thesis For The Graveyard Book
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is about a boy who escaped his parent s killer. He ran into a
graveyard and his dead mom asked the ghosts would protect him. Mr. And Mrs. Owen took him in and
named him Bod short for nobody . Bod had many qualities that made him who he was, he was
curious, strong minded, and friendly. Bod was curious even when he was a baby. When Jack killed
Bod s family, Bod escaped the crib and walked out of the house down to the graveyard. Curiosity is
important for Bod because he can experience the world outside of the graveyard. Bod always
wandered around; Ever since the child had learned to walk he had been his mothers and fathers

Jake Heke is a man with a hair trigger temper, and its unpredictability is the most frightening thing
about him. He likes to play the role of the genial, beer swilling host, playing his guitar, singing songs,
beloved by all, especially late at night by his drunken buddies. But let someone cross him, and he can
lash out in the blink of an eye, the rage boiling over.H NOW
Jake and his wife, Beth, are Maoris, living in a housing development in New Zealand. They re both
good looking people, and Jake, with his sunny, sleepy eyed, self satisfied smile, seems like he s
brimming with confidence. He is not. Beer fuels his resentments and insecurities, and masks his
strength.
There is a scene early in Once Were Warriors where he gets into a ... Show more content on

This is not a narrow drama that focuses on a few themes; it paints a whole style of life, the good times
with the bad, and perhaps no scene is more sad than the one in which the family rents a car and sets
off on a picnic, happy and in good spirits, only to have everything go wrong when Jake decides to stop
for just one drink.
Mamaengaroa Kerr Bell, as Grace, the pretty teenager, is also important to the film; she reflects a hope
and optimism that somehow shines even on the family s cloudiest days, and although her runaway
boyfriend s hideout under an expressway seems grim, they are able to make it into a refuge where
laughter and dreams are possible.
Then everything goes bad for them, too.
Once Were Warriors has been praised as an attack on domestic violence and abuse. So it is. But I am
not sure anyone needs to see this film to discover that such brutality is bad. We know that. I value it
for two other reasons: its perception in showing the way alcohol triggers sudden personality shifts, and
its power in presenting two great performances by Morrison and Owen. You don t often see acting like
this in the movies. They bring the Academy Awards into

Aaron Collins knew he had to go to sleep soon. He turned clockwise and leaned from his desk chair to
check the time again. On the nightstand to the right of his desk, his alarm clock was glowing a faint
neon blue and informed him it was 3:29. Suddenly, the last digit flickered and changed to zero. It was
pitch dark in his spacious room except for the light flooding from his school computer. Aaron sat back
in his chair and began typing again. He has been working on his essay about China s extensive
government and how it differs from our own for the past five hours. Thankfully, he remembered the

notepad and pushed it back inside his pocket again.
This may come as a shock to you but I need you to listen, ok? You have to listen. Do you understand?
Aaron nodded. Yes, of course .
The man shifted his sitting position closer to Aaron. He looked petrified.
Son, you...you had an accident. As eyewitnesses told me, you were at station X today, standing on the
platform for the AC train. I guess for some reason you were standing too close to the edge when the

27. Describe The Importance Of Road Safety Inspections
Road Safety Inspections
Road safety inspections are important. The material explicitly describes the importance of safety
inspections. Without road inspections, the streets and highways would be a chaos for commuters
(Ward, Otto Linkenbach, 2014). Just imagined if the overgrown shrubs and trees hid the traffic road
signs and directional signs pointing in the wrong way. This would be a recipe for disaster. Additional
lives would be at risk by this potential roadway hazards. Identifying potential roadway hazards timely
may reduce the mortality rate (Ward, Otto Linkenbach, 2014).
The Office of Traffic Safety and other similar agencies are working diligently to develop a remedial
measure to save drivers lives (DOT, 2011). To alleviate the road hazards in Minnesota, the road safety
inspector conducts routine safety inspections. The safety inspector examines the highways,
construction signs, bridges, and obstructions that may block the motorists view (DOT, 2011). The
State of Minnesota is vulnerable to various potential hazards. These hazards are associated with man
made and natural disasters that threatens the loss of life and property.
Inspector Role
An inspection is a critical element that detects and responds to potential hazards. For example, the
inspector ensures that the road signs are visible both day and night. In Minnesota, public safety
department encourages the citizens to report any potential road hazards like potholes and damaged
road signs.

Raskolnikov s fixed and serious expression was transformed in an instance, and he broke out into the
same nervous laughter as before, as if he had not the strength to control himself...After his unexpected
paroxysmal outburst of laughter, Raskolnikov had become thoughtful and melancholy (Dostoevsky

In an effort to perturb Zametov, Raskolnikov s character falters and his laughter serves to dissolve the
tension. However, on the verge of a confession, Raskolnikov does not know what he wants to gain
from the conversation. Instead of relieving the situation, Raskolnikov s erratic behavior garners

As he drifting toward the source of his throes, the audience initially believes he rings the bell out of
self punishment. Ironically, however, he finds pleasure in the situation. The fact that Raskolnikov
enjoys the sensations that accompany the sound draws attention to his perspective towards his crime.
His trauma does not stem from the guilt attributed to a violation of civil or moral laws. Instead, he
views the murders as acts of justice and, therefore, considers the crime scene to be admirable work. As
the perpetrator, Raskolnikov sees the crime in its righteous beauty as well as its callous, cruel nature.
He considers himself to be above others and, for this reason, he pushes the boundaries of his own
security. Similar to the repeating bell noises, intrusive thoughts continue to plague Raskolnikov and he
cannot resist the impulse to invest in such ideas. While he is aware of his circular reasoning, he does
not take action to end them similar to how he cannot stop himself from ringing the doorbell.
Yes, I am...I am all over blood stains! said Raskolnikov, with a peculiar look; then he smiled, nodded
his head, and turned down the stairs. He went down quietly, without hurry; he was in a fever again, but
unconscious of the fact, and full of a strange new feeling of boundlessly full and powerful life welling
in him (Dostoevsky 159).

Whatever it was, it was dying by the time I was born, and before I turned six (Pfeffer, 2). The short

33. Efficient and Sustainable Ecosystems
Ecosystem Report:
Introduction:
Ecosystems are everywhere. Any place that contains living and non living organisms (biotic and
abiotic), that share the same space are a community, this is called an ecosystem. An ecosystem can
occupy a large space in the environment, or a very small space. To make up an ecosystem, there must
be an interrelationship between the abiotic and biotic components in the ecosystem; for example, there
must be a series of food chains in order for the different species to survive in that particular
ecosystem. Another definition of an ecosystem is:
They consist of all the organisms in a community, their biotic and abiotic environments, and
exchanges within and between each of these (Knox et al. 2010, p. 128).
The purpose of this investigation is to thoroughly study an ecosystem, to expand the knowledge of
many who wish to further understand the environment and its components. By completing this
investigation it allows for people to understand the importance and needs for having and maintaining
healthy ecosystems. For example, Ecosystems provide food both in their natural state...in the form of
managed landscapes (International Water Management Institute 2011, p. 11). The investigations of
ecosystems are vital in today s society because people can learn how to better treat and take care of
them so they are more efficient and sustainable.

34. Sentimentalism In Ah Q
Early 20th Century Chinese Sentimentalities
The True Story of Ah Q, as written in 1921 by Lu Xun, is widely seen as a magnum opus of
contemporary Chinese literature. Xun wanted to alter the way of thinking as well as enlighten his
fellow Chinese following the 1911 Revolution that overturned the final Chinese dynasty. Xun uses the
protagonist of the story, Ah Q, as a representative of China as a whole as he saw the nation to be,
giving the reader an insight into social classes and attitudes that permeated Chinese society in the
early 20th century. Xun does not paint a great picture of Ah Q and unfortunately, this is his opinion of
Chinese society as a whole at the time. This portrayal of Chinese society is harsh and eye opening but
to Xun, very accurate and necessary to transform the thinking of Chinese people at that time. During
the early half of the 20th century, China was a struggling nation. The country was overwhelmingly
controlled by foreign powers and had little to no autonomy. After losing the Opium Wars to Britain
and France, coupled with an attack from the Japanese, the Chinese had very little control over China.
These losses led to China also losing Control of the all important coastal ports that were very
lucrative. The European influence permeated the Chinese country as people felt helpless with their
wishes and voices not being heard. Under such circumstances, one could easily fall into a state of
mind where they do not care. This is similar to the mindset and characteristics of Ah Q. Ah Q was
seen as backwards, aloof, careless, but with an air of arrogance that was delusional. One common trait
that comes from people feeling helpless is drug usage. People use drugs and alcohol to help cope with
whatever issues they are having; this is no different for Ah Q. In one instance, the protagonist is seen
drunk, cavorting around the village, apparently celebrating the fact that one of the elite from the
village had passed an examination given by the county. In his state of drunkenness, Q proclaims that
he has the same last name as the elite, and that they are related. Ashamed and obviously upset with
this false claim made by Q, the elite slapped and scolded Q and was forced to pay a fee to the

37. A Chapel By William Blake Analysis Essay
Blake starts the poem with an almost idyllic or nostalgic atmosphere; he uses rhyme s that contains a
very long E sound, which forces the reader to smile for proper pronunciation. The speaker is visiting
the garden of his youth, which he realizes has been occupied by briars and tombstones; symbolizing
death. The once open, green piece of land where he used to play, has been covered, and on it, a chapel
has been erected in the middle of its space. The narrator s dismay cannot be fully recognized as the
poem starts; the building of the chapel does not imply any specific disapproval, especially because the
line, And saw what I never had seen, may be taken positively at first read. However, A Chapel was
built in the midst Where I used to play on the green, hints at a more despondent feeling; the narrator is
realizing that the field has been robbed of its innocence, which effectively begins to present the chapel
as evil. The Chapel, in comparison to the garden, is completely unnatural; its shape is triangular and
squarish, making it almost forced and artificial in its place on the natural field. In this way, Blake
successfully conveys his antipathy towards the church and organized religion; he is presenting its
position in the garden as one of complete irregularity, sadness, and gloom. Thinking of the garden of
love in the biblical sense, it very much represents the Garden of Eden; where Adam and Eve once
lived in innocence, without the guilt of love. Thinking of Blake s

drillmasters for new army recruits. 6 days later, Colonel Jackson was ordered to take command at
Harpers Ferry, where he soon comprised the famous stonewall Brigade. That July, he was promoted to
Brigadier General.
At the first battle of Bull Run, Jackson s small group of troops were facing overwhelming odds but
they formed a strong line and held their ground. At the sight of this, General Barnard Bee said, There
is Jackson s line over there standing like a stonewall. After this statement Thomas Jackson was given
the nickname Stonewall .
In October 1861 Colonel Jackson was promoted to Major General. He served in the seven day battles,
and displayed ineffective leadership, which stood in stark contrast to the brilliance of

To Read or Not To Read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel published by Samuel
Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name as Mark Twain, in 1884. The story is more than
just a story however as many adults, parents, and educators believe that this book is unfit for a
classroom setting. What they are unable or (unwilling) to see are the benefits of reading and analyzing
this story. It allows students to understand history in context as well as understanding the vernacular of
the time, it also allows opportunities for discussing conflicting views and controversial issues in a safe
and controlled environment. History can be a vague concept to study and understand. ... Show more

(Leigh, Punchnels) While that is alright for a school to do that, and they have every right to do so, kids
will come into contact with words like that again and they cannot be protected forever. For example,
Huckleberry Finn has been banned in schools nationwide for using the word nigger two hundred and
nineteen times over the course of the novel. (News, CBS) Many people have backed up and valid
arguments for banning the book and they are entitled to their opinions. Some parents do not wish for
their children to be exposed to the content in the story at the age of the child when the book is
introduced. Violence and sexual themes in all forms of media have found their ways to today s youth.
In just the 32 years Banned Books week has been acknowledged, over 11,000 books have been
challenged. (Leigh, Punchnels) The presence of witchcraft, encouragement of damaging lifestyles,
violence, and negativity are all reasons that books have been challenged in the United States. All
schools and educational institutions of any sort have a policy regarding the selection of instructional
materials. The Denali Borough School District in Alaska is a school system that opened up to talk
about their policy. Alaska is one of the few states in the United States that allows schools to more or
less govern themselves, giving them soft standards

44. Being Vegan Research Paper
Veganism 2nd Essay When people ask me what my favorite food is and I replied, either a burger or
pizza, they then say, doesn t that have meat or dairy in it? This question reflects the social standard of
how the meat and dairy industry has influenced people s perceptions deeply. One essential aspect of
my life is my lifestyle choice of being vegan, in which I learned more about myself and where I stand
without entering a classroom. By educating myself on the effects of the meat and dairy industry to the
animals, my health, and the environment, I expanded my horizons beyond the what I see on my plate.
Raised in a filipino culture, meat, dairy, and fish are an significant ingredient in the cuisine. When I
was younger, I ve never been exposed to a vegan lifestyle nor have I heard of the word itself! Rather
than exaggerating what I ate, I ate without a thought. About a year ago, I made the choice to transition
into a vegan lifestyle, initially based on ethics. Since then, I ve learned about the heavy burden the
meat and dairy industry has on the environment, which not only affects me but everyone around the
world. But before that transition, I intuitively had a predisposed idea that animals were being killed for
the people s taste buds, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one forced me to educate myself on this matter; it was all done by my determination to seek
reality. In a world saturated with the looks of a finished product, I saw the journey. I underestimated
the power of a dollar bill that tells meat and dairy industry to continue, so I no longer let my dollar be
the vote. By manifesting my morals into actions, I finally aligned my morals where my mouth is. I
know by doing this, it doesn t reverse the damage I ve already done to the animal, my health, and the
environment. Although I cannot alter what I did before, I still have an opportunity to create a new

47. Narcissism In Patrick Bateman s American Psycho
American Psycho Patrick Bateman is a 26 year old investment banker, living in the 80 s New York.
On the surface he s rich, attractive and charming. But behind his successful façade rests a soulless
serial killer. When he s not committing murders or having sex, he s worrying about how the world
perceives him. But is Patrick really a killer? He admits to his crimes to his friends, but everyone thinks
he s joking or ignore him completely, and to Patrick s dismay the bodies seem to be disappearing
without a trace. Bateman believes that he is a psychopath, and describes himself as one, but I don t
think that s true. His distorted sense of self, mood swings, feelings of emptiness and hallucinations
matches both Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissism is one
of Patrick s defining traits, if someone s better than him, or has something of higher value, he turns
into a lunatic. One example of this is when Patrick gets jealous of his co worker s business card, and
he attempts to kill him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

shoving a starved rat into a womans vagina, and then removed all exits. He then watched as the rat

49. How To Make The Panama Canal
The Panama Canal in my opinion one of the greatest man made canal in the history of the world. The
french attempted to make the canal but failed. In the year 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt
pressured Columbia to declare Panama independent. Theodore did not care about the panamanians he
cared about the land. Panama is an isthmus, an isthmus is a piece of land connecting two large land
masses such as North and South America. People have been dreaming of connecting the Atlantic and
Pacific Ocean for hundreds of years. John Findley Wallace resigned so President Theodore gave the
job to someone else John Frank Stevens. Stevens had an idea instead of digging out the mountain they
would build steps to get over it. They used railroads to move dirt, supplies, and machines. It took a
while, however they used dams to block water, made artificial lakes so the boats could get across,
gravity to fill the locks, and make locks. Locks are like steps, you fill it with water, open up the gates
and keep getting higher. The Panama Canal was not just a marvelous structure, it changed the power
of the Earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constructing the Panama Canal was not easy, they had to overcome diseases, deaths, machine
problems and many more. Yellow fever has been around for centuries and the workers in panama
contracted it. Not only that but mosquitoes that were carrying around malaria got a lot of the
population sick/ infected. A man named walter reed had contracted malaria and survived. He requested
1 million for sanitation and killing mosquitoes but got denied, then he got the money he requested. He
reduced the amount of infected people down to 5%. Besides diseases and animals there were bigger
problems. The land. It was not level and there were mountains in the way. So they built locks to go
over the mountains, but there is also flooding there so they built a dam. Still to this day their are still
problems with the
