POINTS TO BE COVERED
 Crime against women
 Different types of crime
 Steps to combat them
 Conclusion
 Ray of hope
Crime against women
 Any act of gender-based violence that results in or
is likely to result in physical, sexual, or
psychological harm or suffering to women,
including threats mentally or physically,

deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public
or private life constitutes to what is known as
crime against women.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRIME
 Rape
 Domestic violence
 Dowry murder
 Sexual assault at workplace

 Honor killings
RAPE
 No country across the globe is untouched by this very

problem
 It leads victim to mental depression for rest of her life
 Victim is boycotted by the society at large
 India alone registered 1,32,488 case of rape last decade.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
 Prevalent in huge part of India.
 Taking big and small cases of domestic violence into

account India shamefully leads the list of countries
facing domestic violence
 History has it that not only middle class but the upper
class also witnesses this problem
 Main reason behind this problem is low literacy level
and lack of financial status among women.
SEXUAL ASSAULT
 Harassment at workplace by fellow colleagues has

become so common that it has triggered women not to
take job especially in MNC’s.
 Ego factor plays a very important role in encouraging
sexual assault.
 Low level of women representation in big companies
triggers the percentage of sexual assault cases.
Honor killing
 These type of cases have mostly been seen in rural
India where biasing between communities still
exists.
 Khap panchayats are the reason behind honor

killings.
 Vote bank politics of politicians stop them from
taking action against these panchayats.

Steps to stop crime against women
 Rehabilitation of victim after the crime should be the

priority.
 Making and implementing laws to combat rising
percentage of crime against women.
 Capital punishment should be awarded to the accused.
 Faster judicial process is another way through which
crimes can be stopped EFFECTIVELY.
Steps to stop crime against women
(contd.)
 Making prostitution legal (it has worked in many

countries like Italy, Australia and e.t.c.)
 Giving women marshal art or self defense training.
CONCLUSION
 Violence against women and girls continues in every

continent, country and culture. It takes a devastating
toll on women’s lives, on their families, and on society
as a whole. Most societies prohibit such violence — yet
the reality is that too often, it is covered up or tacitly
condoned. We society as a whole need to tackle it
because we never know when our own family member
may get caught by this evil crime.
