When the government of India signed the UN charter on Equality, Development and Peace in 1975, the process of gender audit in the governance got an official stamp. In 1976, the Equal Remuneration Act was enacted to provide equal opportunities, equal treatment and equal wages for work of similar nature. NGOs have been consistently doing public scrutiny of Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and specific provisions for women in general labour laws, The Factories Act, 1948 – Section 34 provides that the State government can lay down rules prescribing weights that may be carried by men and women, The Contract Labour (Abolition and Regulation) Act and Rules- that separate provision of utilities for women and fixed working hours.
Though these laws have proper implementation mechanisms, there is no provision for monitoring the effect of these laws on women. Allowance for special provisions for women have often proven to be detrimental to their employment opportunities. Participation of workingwomen in the decision-making processes in the industrial and agrarian relations is abysmally low. Women’s access to legal service largely remains inadequate in spite of the legal service Act, 1987.

When the government of India signed the UN charter on Equality, Development and Peace in 1975, the process of gender audit in the governance got an official stamp. In 1976, the Equal Remuneration Act was enacted to provide equal opportunities, equal treatment and equal wages for work of similar nature. NGOs have been consistently doing public scrutiny of Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and specific provisions for women in general labour laws, The Factories Act, 1948 – Section 34 provides that the State government can lay down rules prescribing weights that may be carried by men and women, The Contract Labour (Abolition and Regulation) Act and Rules- that separate provision of utilities for women and fixed working hours.
Though these laws have proper implementation mechanisms, there is no provision for monitoring the effect of these laws on women. Allowance for special provisions for women have often proven to be detrimental to their employment opportunities. Participation of workingwomen in the decision-making processes in the industrial and agrarian relations is abysmally low. Women’s access to legal service largely remains inadequate in spite of the legal service Act, 1987.
GENDER CONCEPTS
Transgender people are individuals whose gender identities do not correspond with their biological sex. Transgender is an umbrella term that includes people who identify as transsexual, transgender, transvestite, genderqueer or non-binary. Transgender people face many social and legal challenges including discrimination, lack of access to healthcare and education, and difficulty exercising basic civil and legal rights.

Measuring Gender-based violence: Results of the Violence Against Women (VAW) ...
ABSTRACT: The constitution of Bangladesh guarantees equal rights for both men and women in all spheres of state and public life. It also declares that steps shall be taken in ensure participation of women in all spheres of national life. Bangladesh Government has been continuously adopting of the preemptive policies, legislation, strategies and taking national affirmative action plans and program for accelerating the implementation process in achieving the goal of holistic empowerment of women. Violence against women (VAW) is a global phenomenon that exists even beyond cultural, geographical, religious, social and economic context. Violence against women is widespread in terms of Physical, psychological, sexual and economic aspects. Despite the increased attention to the problem of VAW, there is still a substantial lack of information and data on the scope and extent of the incidence. Detailed data on women’s experience of violence is needed in order to better understanding the phenomenon and developing targeted policies and measures to prevent and combat VAW. Bangladesh has become one of the pioneers through conducting the VAW Survey 2011. The results of VAW Survey 2011 identified that as many as 87% of currently married women have ever experienced any type of violence by current husband and 77% reported any type of violence faced during the past 12 months from the survey time. The higher percentage of any type of violence is predominantly contributed by psychological violence. Almost 90% of those who have ever violated by current husband has the past 12-month experience of violence which implies the persistence nature of violence by the husband. 65 percent of married women reported that they had experienced physical violence committed by their current husbands during their lifetime. About one-third of women who have ever violated by non-partner have the past 12-month experience also. More than four percent of women have ever experienced sexual violence by non-partner, and one percent of women experienced during the past 12 months. To maintain international comparability the standard questionnaire recommended by United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) was customized to fit with the socioeconomic context of Bangladesh. For this customization group consultation meetings were conducted with different stakeholders. Local female registrars among BBS’s Sample Vital Registration System (SVRS) were recruited as interviewers as they are well trained on data collection and have rapport with the ultimate respondents. Stakeholders like UN agencies, civil society and INGO/NGOs working for VAW issue along with different government bodies were involved with the survey processes. The report on Violence Against Women survey recommended to conduct the survey to follow up the changes in the results at every two years. Human violation in Burma
The Karens are an ethnic group residing primarily in Burma who have faced persecution and been forcibly displaced. After the formation of the Karen National Union in 1947, the Burmese army attacked Karen communities, killing and torturing people. Over 550,000 to 800,000 Karens have fled violence and been displaced within Burma. Many have migrated to refugee camps along the Thai-Burmese border where they face disease and lack of rights. The Karens' language and lack of power have left them without a political voice and ignored by the international community despite their ongoing suffering.

The Yanomami people live in around 200-250 villages located in the Amazon rainforest border region between Venezuela and Brazil, with village populations ranging from 50-400 people. They rely heavily on the resources of the rainforest for subsistence, practicing slash-and-burn agriculture of crops like bananas while also gathering wild fruits and hunting animals. The Yanomami use various plants from the rainforest for medicinal purposes, including the chinchona tree for its anti-malarial properties and Curare as a muscle relaxant. However, their traditional way of life is under threat from mining, logging, farming, population growth, climate change, and poverty encroaching on their lands.

- 4. INTRODUCTION Violence against women is a common occurrence in most societies. It is a major social problem. Women and girls are generally looked down upon, trapped within cultural framework and molded by rigid perceptions of patriarchy. As a result violence against women is viewed as a normal phenomenon even from the women's perspective.
- 5. What is Family Violence? The term “family violence” encompasses violence that might occur between family members in addition to violence between partners. Domestic violence(prevention and protection) act,2010defines the meaning of family violence as: Domestic violence means physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse or economic abuse against a woman or a child of a family by any other person of that family with whom victim is, or has been, in family relationship.

- 11. Present situation of family violence against women Bangladesh is a third world country. But we are going to be a developed country. In this situation the present scene of family violence against women is very bad. In 2013 January to June there are- 8 cases recorded tortured by husbands, 4 cases recorded tortured by husband’s family, 73 cases recorded murdered by husbands, 27 cases recorded murdered by husband’s family members, 12 cases recorded murdered by own relative and 58 cases recorded in dowry related violence.

How to reduce Family violence against women Raising awareness of family violence and change norms Strengths and challenges of building networks of leaders within the community: Making services and institution accountable to community needs Individual counseling Batterers intervention programs(BIPs) No drop policy Safe house Using culturally appropriate massages and services.
- 13. Contd.. Implementing necessary laws against false advertising in relationships. Building a resiliency. Change of attitude. Women empowerment. Positive role of social media. Expansion of women institutions. Expansion role of NGOs. Implement necessary law by government. Proper punishment for violator. Give constitutional support to women.

- 16. Conclusion To end family violence occurs both in national and local level. And that is where the shift has to happen-and where it has to be sustained overtime. We can’t solve the problem. But if we want, we can control or reduce the problem. For this government, law enforcing agencies and also the general people have to work hand to hand so that peace can remain in all family. It is our duty to make our family as a haven where all members have equal rights and equal priority.
