their thoughts, emotions, and ideas through the
power of words.

The Purpose of
Creative Writing
To share experience
Through the act of writing, individuals can explore their innermost thoughts
and feelings in a safe and controlled environment. Whether it's grappling
with grief, heartbreak, trauma, or any other emotional burden, Creative
Writing provides an outlet to give shape and voice to those complex
emotions. It allows writers to dissect their experiences, providing a space for
self-reflection and healing.
To get a truth about humanity
Creative Writing bridges cultural divides by sharing stories from diverse
backgrounds, fostering empathy and appreciation for the richness of human
experience. In this way, Creative Writing becomes a bridge across
generations, connecting the past with the present and preserving the
collective memory of humanity for a brighter future.
Types of
Creative Writing
Poetry
Poetry can be hard to define
because as a genre, it’s so open-
ended. A poem doesn’t have to be
any specific length. It doesn’t have
to rhyme. There are many different
kinds of poems from cultures all
over the world, like sonnets, haikus,
sestinas, blank verse, limericks, and
free verse.
Plays, Songs &
Scripts
Plays are meant to be performed on
stage. Screenplays are meant to be
made into films, and TV scripts are
meant to be made into television
programs. Scripts for videos
produced for other platforms fit into
this category as well.
Short stories
Short stories are fictional stories
that fall generally between 5,000
and 10,000 words. Like novels, they
tell complete stories and have at
least one character, some sort of
conflict, and at least one theme.
When a story is less than 1,000
words, it’s categorized as a work of
flash fiction.
20%
of writers prefer songs and movie scripts
80%

Fiction describes something imaginary or
invented; the term is generally used
regarding creative works written in prose or
ordinary language which does not follow a
meter, as in poetry.
What is Fiction?
From a writer's point of view

Fiction writers write suspense.
The author builds more and more suspense to keep
the reader's interest. Suspense is a feeling of anxiety
or anticipation. In literature, authors use that anxiety
to make readers concerned about characters with
whom they have formed sympathetic attachments.
