Creative Collaboration: Tools for Teams

Editor's Notes

  • #4 We want the entire room to line up according to their birthdate, by day and month. Here’s the catch. There is no talking throughout this entire exercise. You have 5 minutes.
  • #5 You have 60 seconds to form groups of (approximately) 10 people each.
  • #6 3 Thing in Common 10 Minutes You have 5 minutes for figure out the three most unique or interesting things that you all have in common. Facilitator Notes: Ice breaker. 5 minutes gets people beyond the obvious. Spend 5 more minutes asking for the most interesting thing from each group
  • #18 Take one card each. On that one card, write one or two words representing an item or service Examples - Item: Pizza or Jigsaw Puzzle Service: Tailoring or Dry Cleaning Wait for them to write cards
  • #19 Now we’re going to use fist to five voting to choose our product. Pick two cards, like Pizza and Tailoring (click) and vote on Pizza Tailoring as your product. All three or higher is your product Count of three - 1-2-3 (click) We got a 2. Let’s try another combination (click)
  • #20 Another vote - 1-2-3 (click) This time we got all 4s and above (click) Pizza Dry Cleaning is this team’s product
  • #24 Work together to create a list of items that need to be done in preparation for the conference.
  • #25 Work together to create a list of items that need to be done in preparation for the conference.
  • #26 Starting with the person closest to the stage, select the card you feel is the single most important card in the stack. Going to your left, each person select the single most important card remaining in the stack.
  • #27 Find a partner in your group. Look at your two tasks and agree to split 7 priority points between them. This is strictly a comparison of these two items, not the entire list. Could be 0 and 7 (click), 1 and 6 (click), 2 and 5 (click), and so on (click) Exchange Cards Find a new partner Score those cards Do this until each card has 5 scores Total the scores and sort the cards by total with highest first (Click)
  • #33 This is an HR policy concern, Joe is VP of HR and Alice is Of Counsel. We can’t have both a Consult and a Collaborate.
  • #34 Alice agrees to step down to advise, trusting that Joe will take her concerns into consideration.
  • #35 This is a key financial decision. Susan is our CFO and has run the analysis needed. Alice is Of Counsel, Thom is CEO, Arnie and Frank are department heads.
  • #36 The team took a look at the chart and asked Susan to step up. Once done, Alice, Arnie, and Frank gladly stepped down.
  • #38 Using note cards, build a grid with the 5 contract roles along the top (click) Then place your top 4 or 5 ideas along the left side (click) Finally, each of you is to place a card with your name in the appropriate column/role for each idea. (click) Discuss amongst yourselves and adjust until you have a conflict free contract.
