In North Carolina, students are considered
career and college ready when they have
the knowledge and academic preparation
needed to enroll and succeed, without the
need for remediation, in introductory
college credit-bearing courses in English
language arts and mathematics within an
associate or baccalaureate degree
program.

What Are Soft Skills?
Soft skills are the skills that enable
you to fit in at a workplace. They
include your personality, attitude,
flexibility, motivation, and manners.
Soft skills are so important that they
are often the reason employers
decide whether to keep or promote
an employee.

The Bad News: Barriers to CTE Persist
Districts reported large or very large barriers to offering
CTE programs to high school students.
● 50 percent reported lack of funding or high cost
of programs as a barrier,
● 44 percent said finding or keeping teachers for
in-demand industries and occupations
● 43 percent cited facilities or space limitations.
We Can Overcome These Barriers by…..
● Making students & parents aware of the programs CTE
as to offer.
● Provide high quality professional development to
aspiring and current CTE teachers.
● Encouraging districts to provide flexibility for
collaborative learning communities of CTE and general
education teachers.
● Sharing information and data on the value of CTE as
college and career readiness pathway.
● Policymakers, district and school leaders, and local
employers also can look to successful private-public
partnership programs that link education and workforce
development opportunities.
Achieving Sustainability in the CTE Classroom
To be an effective teacher, you must use
considerable skills when managing tasks
and situations as they arise each day in your
classroom.
It is vital that teachers reflect on their own
teaching practices and learning strategies
and implement that knowledge into their
classroom.

What is needed is a systemic
framework to create effective
leadership through developing a
college and career readiness
culture.
1. Understand that partnerships can
identify and map existing efforts
2. They can analyze the map to create
a comprehensive implementation
plan to guide the partnership’s work.

In North Carolina, students are considered career and college ready when they have the knowledge and academic preparation needed to enroll and succeed, without the need for remediation, in introductory college credit-bearing courses in English language arts and mathematics within an associate or baccalaureate degree program.

  • 7. Develop the “soft” skills that will enable the student to be successful. What Are Soft Skills? Soft skills are the skills that enable you to fit in at a workplace. They include your personality, attitude, flexibility, motivation, and manners. Soft skills are so important that they are often the reason employers decide whether to keep or promote an employee. #3

The Bad News: Barriers to CTE Persist Districts reported large or very large barriers to offering CTE programs to high school students. ● 50 percent reported lack of funding or high cost of programs as a barrier, ● 44 percent said finding or keeping teachers for in-demand industries and occupations ● 43 percent cited facilities or space limitations.

We Can Overcome These Barriers by….. ● Making students & parents aware of the programs CTE as to offer. ● Provide high quality professional development to aspiring and current CTE teachers. ● Encouraging districts to provide flexibility for collaborative learning communities of CTE and general education teachers. ● Sharing information and data on the value of CTE as college and career readiness pathway. ● Policymakers, district and school leaders, and local employers also can look to successful private-public partnership programs that link education and workforce development opportunities.
  • 11. Achieving Sustainability in the CTE Classroom To be an effective teacher, you must use considerable skills when managing tasks and situations as they arise each day in your classroom. It is vital that teachers reflect on their own teaching practices and learning strategies and implement that knowledge into their classroom.

Developing a College and Career Readiness Culture while Implementing Leadership What is needed is a systemic framework to create effective leadership through developing a college and career readiness culture. 1. Understand that partnerships can identify and map existing efforts 2. They can analyze the map to create a comprehensive implementation plan to guide the partnership’s work.
