Over Arching Goals To achieve measurable improvement in student academic performance on NYS assessments in the core curriculum areas of ELA, Mathematics, and Science for all students including English Language Learners (ELL’s) and Students with Disabilities (SWD). To provide a sustained, comprehensive program of professional development for administrators, school/district based leaders and students in order to expand the constituency of effective advocates for instructional technology integration.

Goals Aligned to No Child Left Behind Improving student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary schools and secondary schools Assisting every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technology literate by completion of the eighth grade. Encouraging the effective integration of technology resources and systems with teacher training and curriculum development to establish research-based instructional methods that can be widely implemented as best practices by State education agencies and local education agencies.

4. Professional Development Goals Differentiate instruction so all students may achieve to their greatest potential. Use data to compare performance and make effective educational decisions. Provide professional development designed to improve teaching and learning. Share best practices within the school to improve performance. Develop the use of technology as a teaching tool to promote interesting and motivating activities for students. Include technology goals and measurable outcomes in the school plans. Strengthen the links between school report card and Comprehensive Education Plan by having a clear school plan shared with all members of the community.

Grant Objectives 1-3 Each project year, at least 80% of students of participating students will demonstrate competency in technology literacy skills as measured by: (1) a locally developed technology literacy assessment tool; and (2) the creation and publication of high quality digital portfolios assessed by a rubric developed and administered by project staff at the conclusion of each project year. Each project year, at least 80% of students of participation teachers will demonstrate improvement in engagement in classroom academic activities as assessed by teacher surveys and student surveys. By the end of project year 2, in at least 75% of participating schools, teachers and students will report that they agree or strongly agree with items related to high levels o student engagement on teacher and student NYC DOE Learning Environment Surveys.

Grant Objectives 4-6 Each project year, at least 65% of participating elementary and middle school students (including students with disabilities and English Language Learners) will demonstrate increases in Math, ELA and/or Science achievement on NYS assessments. Further, each year, it is expected that 80% of participating high school students (including students with disabilities and English language learners) who take English, Math or Science Regents Exams will receive a passing score. Each project year, each participating school will recruit and prepare a team of student leaders who will serve as digital mentors to the school community as assessed by completed activities. Each project year, administrators, supervisors, students and other school leaders, who received intensive, sustained professional development in technology literacy and 21st Century learning skills will demonstrate improved technology literacy and 21st Century learning skills as assessed by: (1) locally developed technology literacy/21st Century learning skills inventories; (2) teacher and student surveys; and school technology goals and vision or plan.

7. Grant Objectives 7-10 Each project year, all participating schools will develop sustainable professional connected learning communities that will provide participating school team members with appropriate resources and build an online community for sharing best practices as assessed by completed activities. Each project year, each participating school will complete a revised Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) that will include goals, objectives, and activities to integrate technology into core curriculum areas. The plan will include professional development activities related to technology integration, PBL, online resources, and technology integration. Each project year, it is expected that at least 30% of staff in each participating school will receive the training identified in the technology professional development plan. Each project year, at least 75% of administrators, teachers, and students in participating schools who receive professional development based on the schools’ technology professional development plan will modify existing curriculum incorporating technology literacy skills in a minimum of 5 lessons/units.
