WHY DO THEY DO INTERVIEWS?
▪ Purpose of the résumé is to determine if you CAN do
the job.
▪ Purpose of the interview is to determine if you WILL
do the job.
SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS
• Pre-interview:
• Find out who you are interviewing with
• Find out the dress code
• Find out about the company
• Read their mission statement, vision statement, and current
situation
• Know what they do.
• Pre-drive the route to the interview AT THE TIME of the
interview a few days before.
• Traffic flow
• Parking
• Be there 13-17 minutes early.

WRAPPING UP THE INTERVIEW
• Typically final question by interviewer is
• “Do you have any questions for us?”
• Your questions are important. They leave the lasting impression.
• “Where do you see the company in five years?”
• “Can you tell me why this position is open?”
• “What are the next steps?”

POST INTERVIEW
• When you get to your car, bus stop, train station, or waiting on cab:
• Take a few moments to debrief the interview.
• What went well?
• What questions did you feel you did not handle well?
• What were your thoughts on the company?
• What were the names of the interviewers?
• Write a nice thank you note and take it back in RIGHT AWAY.
• When you get home:
• Email or write a followup to the interview”
• Thanking them for the opportunity
• Refresh key points you want them to remember

THE JOB OFFER
• You may get a call with a job offer. It may include
initial offer of compensation.
• Don’t hang up.
• Thank them for the information.
• Ask them for their phone number so you can call them back
in case you get cut off.
• Do NOT accept the offer immediately. That is an
EMOTIONAL response.

• Be genuine
• Show interest
