Covid-19 Second Wave
What is the second wave and what caused it?
 From February onwards, cases began to rise
exponentially, and in 1 month (February to March)
we recorded as many cases as in 6 months of
2020.
 This is the second wave because it is the second
time that COVID cases are on the rise.
 The Mutants of coronavirus are very infectious
and have a high R-value (the number of people
who can be infected from one person).
Why is the second wave so concerning?
• Covid-19 Mutant is very contagious and has learned to dodge our antibodies.
• Even the 18-45 age group, who supposedly has strong immunity, is susceptible.
• This group has been classified as the COVID-19 super-spreader.
• This new COVID-19 strain is also infecting children.
 Possibility of Third Wave..?
Symptoms of the second wave COVID infection
• Fever/Cough
• Diarrhoea
• Conjunctivitis(Red Eyes)
• Vomiting
• Fatigue
• Body ache
• Headache
Caring for COVID-19 Symptoms at Home
Home Medications for Covid-19
(Not Applicable for Patients with previous Heart, lung,Kidney,Diabetes,Obesity.)
REST is a big help (light walking, sitting allowed)
1)SPO2 monitoring ( every 4 hours)
2)Plenty of fluids
3)Good diet
4)Vit-C, Vit-D, Zinc, B Complex Vitamin Supplements
5)Warm Saline/Betadine Gargles (3~4 Times/Day)
6)Steam kadha help as throat soothing agents
7)Wear disposable face mask & change 3 to 4 times a day.
8)Have food in disposable plates if possible.
9)Fever Can persist upto 10 Days .Tab DOLO 650 mg (3 ~4 Times a Day) /Tab. Naproxen 250 mg bd. Tab Meftal
500mg sos ( bodyache)
10)Tab.Azithromycin 500mg od / Tab. Doxycycline 100 mg bd x 3 – 5 days, are used to counter secondary infection/
sputum or undiagnosed sore throat. T. Cetrizine/Allegra ( running nose)
11)Syrup Corex /Ambrodil 2 Tsp 2 to 3 times/Day
12)Ivermectin/ Favipiravir may/maynot help ( doubtful weak antivirals).
13)Awake Proning position ( Lay on your stomach) 30~ 60 min a day for 3- 4times.
14)For Mild Covid Diseases there is no need for CT chest
AWAKE PRONING POSITIONS TO ENABLE OXYGENATION
TO ALL AREAS OF LUNGS
What Should We Do Now……
Features of Pneumonia
1. Temp> 101 degree
2. CRP> Rapid rise of CRP
3. Persistant Cough( > 5 days)
4. 5% fall in SPO2 after 6 min.walk.
Investigation at Home in mild cases on day 3
and repeat at day 7-8
1. CBC
2. CRP
3. D-DIMER (Very important- Repeat after 3 days)
4. NLR ( Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio) >= 3.5
5. Blood Sugar
Warning signs ->
Hospitalization required
If oxygen saturation( SpO2) is
below 94 % either at rest / after 6
minute walk
Categories based on Severity
Its time to Double it up
Key Points
1)Strictly Follow COVID-19 Prevention guidelines , Especially
Social Distancing (Min 2 Meter/6 Feet).

treatable if managed at an early stage.
4)Get Vaccinated. Only 0.03% People Got infected after
Second dose of Vaccine.
5)Don’t be taken away by False & Unscientific Treatment
Methods.
Remember COVID-19 is 85~90%
Curable
