This article reviews evidence on whether the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 exists in the testes. While one study found the virus in some semen samples, most evidence suggests the virus is not present in semen or testicular tissue. However, studies have found that COVID-19 can cause damage to testicular tissue, such as inflammation and destruction of seminiferous tubules. This suggests that while the virus may not infect the testes, the disease could still impact male fertility by damaging testicular function. More research is needed to understand if and how COVID-19 affects the male reproductive system.
