Primary Education In High Schools In Primary Schools Of India
A STUDY OF ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS OF STANDARD VII IN ENGLISH SUBJECTS
IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS OF BHARUCH CITY.
Dr. A. Mehta, Mr. Parmar Hitesh
INTRODUCTION:
Education is important not only for the full development of development of ones personality, but
also for the adequate of the nation. Form the birth to the death of the human being, education is a
continuous process. Which all the stages of education i.e. per primary, secondary, higher secondary,
graduation etc. are very important. Primary education in India means seven years of schooling
from the age of six. The government has made elementary education compulsory for all the
children up to the age of 14, to achieve the goal of universal elementary education. Article 45 of
the constitution has stated to provide free and compulsory education for all the children of the
age 6 to 14. The Education Commission (1986 66), the National Policy on Education (1968) and

Brave New World Vs Reality Essay
Brave New World vs. Reality
In many cases when you read a novel you may find comparisons between the quot;fictional quot;
society and your realistic one. The author may consciously or unconsciously create similarities
between these two worlds. The novelist can foresee the future and write according to this vision. In
Brave New World, Adlous Huxley envisions the future of our society and the dangerous directionit
is headed in.
Brave New World is greatly dependant upon soma, as in our worldwhere prescribed drugs and drug
abuse are prominent. This is evident when Bernard and Lenina return from the Savage Reservation.
Lenina is devastated from her experiences, so decides to take soma. It illustrates how like our
world when something upsets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People addicted to cocaine, heroine and other drugs go through a similar stage called withdrawal.
Living without the drugs seem unimaginable and frightening. If our world does not stop this
dangerous overuse of drugs we will see ourselves evolve into the frightening direction of Brave
New World and will be unable to stop it.
Physical and mental controlling (hypnopaedia) is used to teach moral lessons in Brave New
World, our world uses hypnotism for the same purposes. The incident with Ruben Rabinovich
illustrates how our world is similar to Brave New World. Ruben Rabinovivch was a young boy
who fell asleep with the radio on listening to a professor give a lecture. When he awoke the next
morning he could recite the facts he heard but, he did not know what they meant. This is similar to
our world because people use tapes to help them learn and memorize facts and speeches.
In Brave New World their society is taught moral lessons and slogans by hypnopaedia. For
example quot;a gramme is better than a damn. quot; Today we are forced into believing
propaganda and advertisements. We are bombarded with ads and pressure to buy certain things,
or believe what people tell us. In Brave New World if they do not follow propaganda they are
considered abnormal, and are forced out of society.
When we are young children we are soothed from our crying by music and the voices of our
parents. We are told we are loved and are spoken to. Throughout our lives we are

Cant Stop Won T Stop Sociology
I believe that Can t Stop, Won t Stop, Wild Style, Egyptian Lover, Finding the funk, and Breakin n
Enterin speak to each other in helping narrate hip hop s origin mythologies. Each of these represent
different sectors of the black community and how it all intertwines. Breaking down each element it
will be easy to see how each goes hand in hand with each other.
Can t Stop, Won t Stop is an element that gives a lot of information from different areas. This
provides a highlight on some of the most important people of the time, Fab Five Freddy. The
background is shown to be described with a Jamaican element. Gangs of the Bronx had their own
contribution. This was the beginnings of DJ Kool Herc and brought up street parties. Graffiti
became popular in 1965 which made a connection to hip. Hip Hop was seen as a part of the culture.

Throughout the movie you are able to see the elements of hip hop all throughout the movie for
example there was graffiti in the background. It was easy to see the different factors that are
brought out in hip hop. During the music scenes you can hear the rapping in the music scenes.
Egyptian Lover definitely brought out a different element out of the other four sectors. The
reasoning of the name Egyptian Lover was to show and let women know he was a lover and not a
fighter. Hip Hop was seen as an aggressive genre where people viewed it as being very violent.
You are able to see how he interacted with the music to create a song. He was able to bring out
Cold Crush Brothers, the Zulu Nation.
Finding the funk outlined how funk influenced hip hop in a very immediate way. Funk was an
element that was highlighted within hip hop. Many people argued that funk was the beginning of
hip hop. James Brown helped to promote black music in general and he was known as the King of
Funk. Hip Hop didn t exist when dance started, that all dealt with

Penny Should Be Eliminated Essay
Should the Production and Use of the Penny be Eliminated in the United States?
By Sydni Peters
If you gave Canada a penny for their thought, they d advise you to get rid of the small copper
coins. In fact, Canada, as well as many other countries have already taken action to rid their nation
of the need for their lowest valued currency. Meanwhile, in America, our one centcoins are losing
their value while causing other prices to rise. To discontinue the minting of these coins would mean
better prices and a better economy. Furthermore, pennies cost more than their value to create,
leading to more debt for each impractical coin minted. Despite being a trademark piece of currency,
the most opportune option would be the abandonment of pennies. The United States should
eliminate the penny because they are causing inflation and the results would be extremely beneficial.

According to the article, Penny Wise or 2.4 Cent Foolish? , the dropping of the penny could mean
reduced prices and a strengthened economy. If there were no penny, prices would have to be
rounded. Some may argue that the more practical choice would be to raise prices to make more
money. However, in today s competitive market, many businesses would consider lowering prices
to make their products more desirable. Currently, the government loses millions of dollars to the
minting of pennies. Moreover, in 2011, over $60.2 million was wasted on these coins that most of
the population does not even consider sensible. Getting rid of these coins would be the most
economically beneficial choice for our nation and its

Behind the Watergate Scandal Essay
On June 17, 1972, five burglars broke into the offices of the Democratic National Committee
located inside the Watergate Hotel in Washington. Frank Wills, a night security guard,
discovered that the break in was occurring. Several office doorknob cylinders were covered with
masking tape to hold the doors open (McConnell 11). As soon as Wills made this discovery, he
telephoned the police. The five burglars, carrying electronic gear and photographic equipment,
were arrested on site at 2:30 A.M. They were suspected of illegal wire tapping. This series of
arrests sparked the beginning of what came to be known as the Watergate Scandal. The Watergate
Scandal caused several events to occur such as a huge investigation, Nixon winning the... Show

The reporters also revealed that John Mitchell had controlled a secret fund for financing political
spying and dirty tricks to weed out the presidential candidates of the Democratic Party. Due to
those dirty tactics, Nixon was reelected on November 7, 1972. However, on February 7, 1973,
with questions still remaining regarding the president s knowledge of the Watergate affair, the
Senate voted to establish the Senate Watergate Committee, which was charged with investigating
the extent of campaign abuses in the 1972 presidential election (McConnell 12). McCord, under
oath before the Senate Watergate Committee, testified that Jeb Magruder, former Nixon aide,
and White House counsel John Dean both were aware of the plans to bug the headquarters of
the Democratic National Committee. He also stated Mitchell had approved the plans. FBI
Director L. Patrick Gray resigned after he confessed, on April 20, 1973, that he destroyed
Watergate evidence because he was pressured by Nixon s aides. On June 25, Presidential counsel
John Dean testified that Nixon had been paying the five burglars and two operatives whom were
involved in planning the Watergate break in hush money. A Nixon aide testified on July 13 that
Nixon taped all of his conversations and telephone calls on hidden microphones installed in the
Oval Office. The Committee subpoenaed the tapes. Nixon refused to hand them over. The tapes

Terry Swenson Viewpoints
Being accepted into a college should be based solely on merit. Yes, having quotas can diversify
the class discussions, and help other students gain a different perspective on things. Terry Swenson
says, race doesn t correlate with a particular viewpoint and, therefore, we look beyond skin color
alone to a student s background (parental occupation, parental educational background,
neighborhood) as we try to assess what different perspective he/she may bring to our campus. Your
race doesn t necessarily change your views on issues, but your experiences, education, and
geography do. A lot of times people assume that minorities are the only ones in bad living
conditions or poor neighborhoods. That is very false Caucasians live in those conditions,

7 Habits of Highly Effective People
I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated
a negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I
believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me,
but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have
realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get
back in the positive emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always
been thinking win/lose to go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it
very well and that it s going a lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and
imagination, but I have to listen a little more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent
will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become
successful and well liked, without having to take advantage of anyone. I loved to read his
examples, especially the one of the software company that was almost going bankrupt and
accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a way bigger service. It
shows that if you think lose/win at first that it might be a bigger win later. Habit 5: Seek First to

Beer Wars Film Analysis
Introduction
A documentary film made in 2009, Beer wars features and describes the American beer industry
distinguishing between the large and small breweries. The large breweries feature some main
corporate companies like Coors Brewing Company, Anheuser Busch, and Miller Brewing Company
whereas the small breweries include craft beer producers like Moonshot 69, Stone Brewing
Company, Dogfish Head Brewery, Yuengling, and others. The documentary shows how the beer
market is controlled through advertising and lobbying, which is harmful for the competition in the
market. There is a reason why the small companies are falling behind and the large corporates are
controlling the market, which in turn makes it essentially oligopoly economy.
The Plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film depicts an insight of the beer industry and its current state in America. It shows some
unexplored or hidden facts and journey of the beer industry which is intended to interest the beer
lovers. Beer Wars film describes the daily battles in the beer industry between well established
corporate beer brands and some of the upcoming innovative beer breweries. The independent and
the small breweries introduce new and innovative craft beer in this high profitable beer industry.
The documentary shows how the two small beer entrepreneurs, Rhonda and Sam try to establish
themselves in the beer industry and success in the high potential market. The film shows that the
beer industry is governed by some difficult and outdated laws along with an oligopoly of the large
brands. These large brands manipulate the beer industry by acquiring and buying off the smaller
brands which they find competitive among the market. The small brewers thus face difficulties and
barriers establishing themselves in the American beer industry. The big giants like the Coors
Brewing Company, Anheuser Busch, and the Miller Brewing Company face challenge from the
independent craft beer producers when these new brands are put on shelves; so they seek ways to
prevent distribution and production of these small brands, which is harmful for the competition in
the beer industry. Sam Calagione and Rhonda Kallman are considered as small entrepreneurs in the
beer industry who struggle from the large brands, the difficult laws, and the less competitive but
highly profitable

Roger Chillingworth Character Analysis
Characters to People Appearance is representative of a character s current state development
along their journey of either growing as a person, or falling back into more feral tendencies that
ultimately destroy their body, soul, or both. Despite what a character may express to the outside
world, their appearance and actions delivers a relatable context of their hidden motives and well
being thus imbuing them with human life. The outward appearance of Roger Chillingworth is one
of the most distinct in the entire novel, even going as far as giving a glance into his future. When
first introduced to Chillingworth, he is a quiet astute individual that is described multiple times as
inquisitive and observant, traits that are red flags for a character searching for something. The
work of Bethany Reid within, Narrative of the Captivity and Redemption of Roger Prynne , reveals
similar sentiment. She starts her observation by noting, [In] Our first view of Roger
Chillingworth... what we first observe about him underscores his mutable nature. (Reid, 46). Roger
s nature starting off the story in this fashion is consistent to his inner motives; he simply wishes to
learn more about Hester and her whereabouts. On the same page, however, it is noted that he has a
slight hunch in his shoulders, a disfigurement of sorts. This disfigurement is our first clue into his
future involvement in the conflict of the story as he becomes more and more disfigured within.

Comparing Knowledge in Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy and Hume s An Enquiry
Concerning Human Understanding,
Rationalists would claim that knowledge comes from reason or ideas, while empiricists would
answer that knowledge is derived from the senses or impressions. The difference between these two
philosophical schools of thought, with respect to the distinction between ideas and impressions, can
be examined in order to determine how these schools determine the source of knowledge. The
distinguishing factor that determines the perspective on the foundation of knowledge is the
concept of the divine.
Descartes is a prime example of a rationalist. Descartes begins his Meditations on First ... Show

Once the certainty of Res Cogitans is developed, clear and distinct perceptions are replaced with
clear and distinct ideas. It is these ideas from which Descartes derive knowledge, including the
existence of Res Extensa (corporeal things). Therefore, Descartes, a rationalist, derives his
knowledge from ideas and reason, all of which stem from an instance of natural light.
The empiricists, however, do not believe in natural light and therefore do not hold knowledge to be
derived from these innate ideas. David Hume is one of these empiricists. Hume was a scientist and
an atheist; his occupation and beliefs disallowed him from holding innate ideas to be a valid basis
for knowledge. In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume points out a hierarchy
that exists among ideas and impressions: the most lively thought is still inferior to the most
lively impression (Hume: 10). Hume also establishes that for all of his ideas he can trace them
back to impressions, those for things which he has not had impressions of he cannot have an idea.
What never was seen, or heard of, may yet be conceived: (Hume: 11) A blind man can form no
notion of colours; a deaf man of sounds (Hume: 12).
From these impressions and ideas stem two kinds of knowledge: relations of ideas and matters of
fact. Relation of ideas are a priori and do not need to be

Symbolism In The Pale Man
Visually, the Pale Man is horrendous and intimidating, similar to the frog. The setting the pale man
lives in also adds the monstrous characteristics he possesses. The room s ceiling is painted of the
portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in
one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest.
The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit
tarts, and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are
placed on a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial
features are his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten
skin. His skin hangs from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44).
Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the
film. The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the
childhood and innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on
individuality in an entire nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life.
The portraits of children and pile of shoes also give insight on the state of Spain. These images,
recall the historical reality of the holocaust... where piles of belongings, including the shoes, of its

House Altar With Akhenaten, Nefertiti And Three Daughters

House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters
The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for thousands of years.
The Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from that consistency under the
Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to Akhenaten
) his Queen, Nefertiti and later,
Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the sun god Aten, which is evident in the art that was
commissioned. Instead of using strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An
example of this stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters.
The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of the 18th
dynasty around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in homes that the royal
couples subjects could worship. That altar features the royal couple and three of their daughters in
a domestic setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are depicted as the only ones with access to the god
Aten, characterized by a sun disk with a cobra engraved in it. The family scene is also warmer and
intimate than those that came before it, (Lorenz) which is marked by the parents holding their
children lovingly in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The children also appear disproportionate and are depicted as miniature compared to their
parents, which was very atypical from the traditional approach where bodies were perfectly
balanced. Another example of this type of style is the famous Nefertiti bust, which also shows the
elongated head and crown. Conversely, on a sandstone block from Theban tomb 55 of Ramose
has an example of Amenhotep IV s image in the style of his father s reign, where his features are
not distorted and are much more traditional ( Images of Amenhotep IV 89), which is in contrast to
how he is depicted in the Amarna

Masculinity And Its Effect On Society
These claims by culture and feminism do not match up with the definition of manliness, and that is
where the debate lies. If the discrepancy was due to the researchers Mansfield and Gilmore, what
are they to make of their observations and study? What are we to do with centuries of history in
which humans lived with menat the helm because they were needed? How are we to explain the
unconscious feeling that a manis doing right when he works to provide for his family? How can
we explain the opposite feeling when a man does not? The argument that is not being made on the
manliness side is that men should be the only ones in government or in business or that misogyny
plays any role at all. They are not arguing for a return of the patriarchy, but they are arguing for a
return of true manliness.
It is here that we find the real problem of men today. In a culture that ignores true masculinity and a
society that has no need for men to follow a code, manliness has become something of the past.
Recalling the illustration of Tahiti, men today have a Tahiti mindset. There is no longer any need
for men to protect, provide and procreate due to the expansion of technology and culture. There is
little to compel men to follow manly principles thus they simply choose not to. Jack Donovan
puts it this way: For what may be the first time in history, the average guy can afford to be careless
(188). Men can afford to opt out of contributing to society because there are little to no

White Log Character Analysis
White Fang is an action/adventure novel written by Jack London. White Fang takes place in
Yukon Territory and areas around Canada during the 1890s. It is written in 1st person and
changes between different people s point of views. White Fang is about the will to survive. White
Fang must go through whatever he needs to stay alive. There is always a new challenge Fang and
his buddies must face. That is why they are willing to do whatever to survive.
White Fang is put through many owners before finally finding the one he loves. He first starts off
with Gray Beaver, who owns he and his mother. He is very subtle and not cruel nor very nice.
White Fang is then transferred to Beauty Smith, who is ironically named beauty because he is
hideous. Beauty Smith tricked Gray Beaver into trading whiskey for White Fang. He is a very
cruel man and tries to transfer White Fang into a fighting wolf. Throughout the story White Fang is
faced with many battles, emotionally and physically, and must stride to survive.
There are many different antagonists through White Fang. Beauty Smith is a very ugly and cruel
man who tricked White Fang s previous owner into trading for whiskey. He tries over and over to
turn White Fang into a fighting dog and has him fight dogs for money. Cherokee is a bulldog who
almost kills White Fang. He is the only dog to ever get close to finish White Fang in a battle.

Jewish American Literatue
Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester, the concept
of duty has been a major theme in various novels, such as in Anzia Yezierska s Bread Givers,
Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s Herzog. Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow
offer different circumstances, they all suggest a sense of responsibility from parent to child. I
will show how the relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa
and the living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain custody of his
daughter June in Herzog. They are all significant in understanding the parent child commitment
in Jewish American families. According to these three novels, parents are obligated to their
children parents must give emotional support as well as security to them. According to Norman
Soloman s Judaism: A Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated
to carry out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by God s
commandments. One must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible as a guide to
holiness. The complete theological idea of a man s role in life is comprised within the notion of
mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah, denotating obligation or duty is also used the same
as mitzvah. To complete a divine commandment is to satisfy one s duty. In these three novels, duty
is the chief reason for the actions of these characters.

Compare and Contrast two criminological approaches to...
Compare and Contrast two criminological approaches to understanding the commission of crime.
Criminologists seek to understand the commission of crime in a given society, attempting to figure
out why certain crimes occur, and then to study how these can be prevented, and deterred by
individuals. The two key approaches I will examine in this assignment is that of the early
Classicalist approach, and the opposing Positivist approach, each of which are crucial for
understanding modern criminology today. In the late eighteenth century Britain went through an
Enlightenment period, which is also referred to as The Age of Reason (Paine, 1794) and this is
because reason was emphasised over religion, secularisation transformed ... Show more content on

Bentham then invented his idea of the perfect prison, the panopticon. This was a model prison
where all prisoners where observed at all times by unseen guards. The Classicalist approach
involves the punishments being just and reasonable, however still being able to deter individuals.
This approach has been criticised by numerous theorists for many reasons. To begin with, despite
this continuing change of the punishments towards offenders, from the earliest codes of public
executions, towards a more subtle reformation and rehabilitation scheme, the Rehabilitation of
Offenders Act 1974 mirrors this idea, murder rates have not significantly changed. Also this theory
emphasises much on rational thinking and freewill, however it is debated that we do not always
behave in our best interest, there are times when individuals are intoxicated by alcohol so are not as
conscious of their activities. Moreover, there are crimes which entails the offender gaining no
rewards, and also victimless crimes illustrate that not all crimes and punishments are just . Theorists
then sought to figure out another alternative way for understanding the commission of crime, as
many began to doubt this theory that crime was a simple characteristic of the human nature. In the
nineteenth century the Positivist approach was introduced, which brought a whole new way of
thinking about criminals and certain

Assyrian Art And Its Influences Of Assyrian Art And Their...
Assyrian Art and Its Influences Assyrian art was long buried under the sands of time. The palaces
collapsed, and the grave of the city was unrecognizable. In Wilkinson s Some New Contacts With
Nimrud and Assyria he discusses these ancient people and their prevalence in today s museum
society, as well as their possible influences. The Assyrian peoplewere very vicious and many
descriptions of them in the Bible do not describe them to the extreme that they describe
themselves. Since Assyrian art was buried for the longest time, people did not really understand
them and their culture that well, which is why people such as Layard, an archeologist, were
eager to discover more. Wilkinson describes how many museums didn t have any Assyrian
exhibits until around the eighteen forties to the eighteen fifties. Wilkinson uses descriptive
details, and references to describe Assyrian artwork and its prevalence to museum culture.
Wilkinson describes Assyrian artwork in a very detailed way. He does this too support his claims
that Assyrian artwork is a mixture of many cultures. Wilkinson states the since the Assyrian
people conquered so many different groups of people, you are really able to see that influence
within their artwork. The descriptions of these pieces allow the audience to follow his claims and
make connections between artworks as well. For example, Wilkinson describes one of the ivory
carvings found stating that the row of pretty gazelles, with one of them licking her

No Place For Sissies
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, LGBT people need culturally
competent medical care and prevention services (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), 2014). After viewing the video Old Age is No Place for Sissies I evaluated how I would
care for this population as a nurse. Providing culturally competent care to this population is vital. A
person should not avoid receiving preventive care and care for life threatening conditions due to a
fear of discrimination, violence or stigma (Levitt, 2015).
Providing culturally competent care, communicating and understanding how patients identify
themselves is essential in providing care. The patient wants to be heard, respected and seen for
who they are and not what you may feel they are. In the video a gentleman spoke about wishing he

for its historical and contemporary architecture, local festivals and art museums. The two main
sources of inspiration are: Sagrada Familia The expiatory church of La Sagrada FamГlia is a work
on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect
Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828 1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudi was commissioned to carry
on the works, a task that he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different
architects have continued the work after his original idea. (Sagrada Familia 2015) This is a

The Analysis of The Irish Stew by J.Jerome
Jerome Klapka Jerome was an English novelist and humorist. His books are loved by readers
even nowadays, though Jerome s contemporaries didn t give high praise of his works and some
literature critics thought that his novels and romances didn t concern serious and actual problems
of life being a little bit senselessness. But these suggestions were erroneous. On the contrary we
can see his attitude to modern English reality and how he discloses absurdity of well established
norms of behavior, morals and manners. Jerome is best known for the humorous travelogue Three
Men in a Boat.

The author uses different stylistic devises to communicate to reader his image and a comic
situation happened to him as exact as he can. Actions of George seem to be really silly because
he tries to present himself as an expert in this sphere, we can understand by his yearning to make
a dinner, for example he wants to show his friends what could be done up the river in the way of
cooking. And soon in the end of the extract reader can see the result of his attempts to do an Irish
stew.
Harry plays there a role of such kind of a man who is a chap and simpleton. We can see the funny
side of the situation when he is ready to add a dead water rat into the stew. He is a nice fellow and
takes everything easy despite of George s big words about the precedent.
Special attention should be also paid to the narrator Jerome. It s a usual thing the presence of the
narrator in Jerome s works of art. Here the narrator Jerome plays an important role, it means that he
steadily observes everything that happens and notices all the nonsense of life, and moreover he
comments on this or that situation speaking ironically of it. For example the situation with the
dead water rat, he thinks over if it is such kind of sarcasm or a real desire to make a contribution to
the dinner. The purpose of the narrator is not the fighting with man s vices, it is a desire to show
things as they are not in satiric way but with the

The Siege Of Yorktown During The American War
The Siege of Yorktown
The Siege of Yorktown, otherwise known as the Battle of Yorktown or the German Battle, was the
final and deciding battle in the American War for Independence. This blockade of American and
French troops took place in Yorktown, Virginia, hence the name entitled to this bombardment. Led
by George Washington, a Virginian Commander in Chief, the Continental Armytraveled south out
of Williamsburg to surround Yorktown. Aided by French General de Rochambeau, this organized
military force clashed against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and his troops of 9, 000
men. On September 18, 1781, the last major battle in North American of the American
Revolution began. On this day, General Cornwallis chose Yorktown, the mouth of Chesapeake
Bay, as his base due to its deep harbor, which allowed reinforcements to arrive by ship.
Fortunately for the Patriots, Admiral Comte de Grasse and his French fleet departed Saint
Domingo, a French colony or modern day Haiti, to the south of Chesapeake Bay. There, he
defeated Admiral Thomas Graves, who was supposed to deliver the reinforcements to Cornwallis,
at the Battle of Virginia Capes. As a result, George Washington realized that it was time to act and
ordered Marquis de Lafayette, a French aristocrat and a military officer, with his troops of 5, 000
to encircle Cornwallis in Yorktown, while the French naval forces blocked his escapes by sea. With
another plan in mind, the Americans and French dug a trench closer to

There is a upcoming war with France and we don t know where it will be, so we will need to

geography and climate, resources, political and social life, the Southern colony will prove to be
problem in a possible war with France. The geography of the Southern colony includes the
Appalachian Mountains, Piedmont, the Atlantic Coastal Plain, and has good harbors and rivers
for fish and ships. The Southern colony has a humid climate with mild winters for being outside a

the Southern colony include fertile land for farming, rivers for fishing, and deep harbors for easy

Having A System In Twelve Angry, By Reginald Rose
What is the point of having a system if it has faults to it? A family friend was being held at the
adult detention center. His family was not able to hire a lawyer for him at the time, so a lawyer
was appointed to him. The problem with his appointed lawyer was that he didn t speak Spanish
and the family friend didn t speak English, therefore there was no way of communication. The
lawyer did not find out anything about his case, he didn t find out whether or not he had a work
permit or a visa, which he did but had been expired. The attorney appointed to him just said, Sign
the papers and you ll be released here. The family friend just did what the lawyer said because he
thought he was helping him, not creating a bigger problem. Now, he is fighting to stay here
where he has built a life with his wife and kids. Again, what is the point of having a system if it
has faults to it? Problems in the system have been present since about the 1930s or 1940s and are
still present to this day, it may not have as many faults however some are still present. The play,
Twelve Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose, is about a kid on trialwho is accused of murdering
his father. Testimonies given by neighbors are raising questions among the jurors. A lady from

Preventing Postpartum Depression
Hello, Muna thank you for your post. I am glad to hear that you experienced minimal medical
problems while pregnant. However, you and I both were surprised to read the effects of inadequate
nutrition while pregnant. Likewise, we learned specific cheeses and dairy products to avoid during
pregnancy. According to the National Honor Society (NHS), pregnant women should avoid soft
cheeses because they often contain listeriosis. The term Listeriosis occurs when foods eaten
become contaminated with bacteria. However, it safe to eat hard cheeses made from pasteurized
milk. In the article titled Listeria and Pregnancyat American pregnancy.org, it shares a pregnant
woman infected with Listeriosis may experience flu like symptoms (headaches, nausea, and
vomiting). However, during the third trimester of pregnancy, the immune system is suppressed.
Therefore, the best way to determine if a pregnant woman is ill from listeriosis is to take a blood

Change Progress and Prosperity
Change Progress and Prosperity The Harvest took place in a small, secluded, and self reliant
agricultural community in England, before the industrial revolution. The novel was based on
change, growth, progress and prosperity. The village, as the narrator Walter Thirsk stated was, far
from everywhere (Crace, 3) and isolated from the world. The village was also fragmented and
missing any development of identity. The commons were the people living in the unnamed village.
The commons way of life changed from harvesting and plowing to extracting wool for clothing. Jim
Craceexamined the themes of changeand fragmentation by the loss of identity and way of life
through the use of symbols, characters, and imagery. In the Harvest, symbolism was evident
throughout the novel. Symbols are commonly used to add richness and depth to the story. The
author used symbols to develop the main themes of change and fragmentation. During the course
of the novel, the most significant symbols included: fire, crops, ghost, unfinished cross, quills,
sheep, wool, and the rock. In the novel, fire was the most impactful symbol. The novel started
with two fires and ended in one. What starts with fire will end with fire (Crace, 198). The element

According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of Culture
One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of music is the
representation of culture. Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster
is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as
easily said than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and
challenging as it contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the
complexityof defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative
figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have
no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly,... Show more content

Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such
complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true
representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of
the most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey
complexity, especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of
representation, then representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of
a culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions
found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a
significant factor in representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of
representation should be: the people. Even though representation does indeed contain many
complex factors and unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how
to answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found within the
thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The
only form of complexity found within representation should be found within the thick descriptions
of man, By doing so, the complexities of man becomes the focus of what true representations
involves instead of the complexity of representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and
should be a connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study of

Design Of An Exhibition Gallery
Some are like sea serpents, others like office cubicles, but regardless the shape, all art museum
galleries intend to give viewers a certain experience. The flowing into, out of, and around gallery
spaces within an art museum can positively or negatively affect the patron s experience.
Unfortunately, when the design of an exhibition gallery negatively affects a viewer, a disservice is
done to the artists and culture of the artworks on view. On view in the permanent collection of the
Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas is the exhibition of several seventeenth and eighteenth
century artworks with Spanish influences, accompanied by a single Japanese artifact of the same
era. At first glance, all the pieces on display within this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grouping of these paintings is quite clear from a historical and visual standpoint. The paintings
each feature warm colors with a splash of vibrancy, apparent subjects, perhaps due to their
monochromatic backgrounds, and also display the same sort of calm and collected subject matter
that much of Spanish Baroque art concentrated on. The Wine Flask, whose creator is unknown, fits
in with warm color scheme and dates back around the same time as the rest of the exhibition,
however it has a known origin of Japan.
Entering the gallery from the main corridor, the patron has two openings to choose from, one on
the left and one on the right, due to the placement of a single white vista wall. With a single exit
way on the side parallel to the entryways, a bench placed in the center of the gallery, and no floor
designs suggesting a specific route, the intended circulatory path of this exhibition is unclear. To
view each artwork within the exhibition and exit into the next gallery, the viewer is forced to
travel the same path they came at least once. Having an undefined pathway in the layout of this
gallery leads to further issues in the exhibition. The most apparent issue is that the viewer is
unable to immediately recognize if there is a focal piece in the gallery. Being in a rectangular
room with two parallel white vista walls and the remaining walls being featured in the same beige
stone material with no single focal lighting element,

Technology And The Human Computer Interface
There are certain technology programs that are emerging in the software industry that have key
uses. These current technologies are those that surround the human computer interface. As a
software engineer, I will use this paper to describe the term Haptic Feedback, its key uses and why
it is needed. In addition, I will compare the various types of human memory mentioning their impact
on the human computer interface. I will also give a detailed description of the potential outcomes of
not making use of consistency in the human computer interface, summarize and explain the steps of
user centric design process and the role of human motion in the human computer interface.
Haptic Feedback Haptic can be defined as the science of applying the touch sensation as well as
control to guide human interactions with the computer applications. This is done using the
special devices such as data gloves and joysticks to enable users to receive computer application
feedback in form of a felt body part sensation, especially the hand. In that regard, it can be
deemed that Haptic Feedback is the feedback that users derive from the interaction with computer
applications that is only felt, not heard or seen. The key uses of Haptic Feedback are in the image
outlines delineated by the feel sensation in a way like object simulation in a location near the user.
In this way, it can be used in the training of individuals to perform tasks that require hand and eye
coordination, including space ship

Essay on Underage Drinkers Face Repercussion
Today there seems to be an increasing number of underage drinkers. Teens seem to be drinking
their way through high school and college because it s the trend of the century. They go out to
party and there is no party, if there is no alcohol. They begin to believe there is no fun in partying
without the use of alcohol. According to, the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 40% of high
school students drank some amount of alcohol, 24% binge drank, and 10% drove after drinking
and 28% rode with a driver who had been drinking(Youth Risk Behavior Survey, P.3) . Where is

Underage drinkers risk their lives every time they decide to drink. In addition to, underage
drinkers manage to get themselves into a legal predicament when they consume alcohol.
According to, the Surgeon General s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking,
Underage drinking increases the risk of physical and sexual assault, and creates secondhand
effects that can put others at risk. Loud and unruly behavior, property destruction, unintentional
injuries, violence, and even death because of underage alcohol use afflict innocent parties.
Figure 1: Percentage of People Who Reported Binge Drinking in the Past 30 Days For example,
about 45 percent of people who die in crashes involving a drinking driver under the age of 21 are
people other than the driver. Such secondhand effects often strike at random, making underage
alcohol use truly everybody s problem (Surgeon General s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce

The Pros And Cons Of Multiculturalism
Canada is a place known to be a multiculturalism country to many. Although it is meant to be a
positive thing in many minds, it is also tended to be a negative thing. This is shown in the essays
No Place Like Home by Neil Bissondath, and Immigrants, Multiculralism, and Canadian citizenship
by Will Kymlicka. Both essaymake powerful points to why multiculturalism is negative, but also
shows the method that the authors use to write such as racism, how both author s use the pathos
and logos method, but also false premises. In the essay, No Place like home by Neil Bissondath
argues that although multiculturalism has emphasized differences it has also created a divide.
Canadais seen to have a record of racism, that shows an ongoing separation in Quebec. This would
also include sexism, and various forms of discriminationthat are tied in with racism. Till today,
people are discriminated on their physical appearance. As multiculturalism grows in Canada racism
becomes to be a problem to some. Bissondath goes on to say that although there is a damage of
multiculturalism, many Canadians need to, pursue acceptance of others not mere tolerance of them
(Bissondath, Page 307). What is meant to be said by that quote is, Canadians need to learn to
accept other s rather than parting ways due to someone s color, race, or their appearance. However,
Will Kymlicka says in his essay, the more multiculturalism the better. Kymlicka says that
immigrants are supportive and that they have

Essay about Developing and Learning
Introduction.
In this assignment the writer will compare and contrast the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky. To
begin, the writer will discuss Piaget s theory of cognitive development, followed by Vygotsky s
theory of cognitive development. The writer will then discuss any implications of Piaget s and
Vygotsky s models for teaching and learning in the school years. In order to do this she will
compare the two theories and look at any relevant evidence and research. After comparing both
theories of cognitive development, the writer will do a brief summary of the two theories.
Concluding her findings and how the two theories contrast each other.

Children begin to pretend play, which is when a child acts out routines, such as eating or cleaning.
Children begin to think, however thinking at this stage is still different to the way that adults think.
Their thinking is not very systematic or logical (Wood, 2008 P.48). Piaget stressed that during the
preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the
perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? (Smith, Cowie, Blades 2011
P.390). A child may well presume that everyone has the same knowledge as they do without taking
into consideration another person?s point of view.
Throughout the concrete operational stage, which occurs between seven and twelve years of age,
children begin to think logically. (Wood, 2008 P.47). Children at this stage are able to think
logically about the world and gain the ability to manipulate their mental representations to think and
solve problems. Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. For example, if sand
was poured from a tall thin container into a short wide container, they would understand that the
quantity is the same as before.
The last stage is the formal operational stage, which occurs during early adolescence. This is when
cognitive development reaches its peak. According to Smith (2003), Piaget believed that individuals
at this stage gain the ability to ?reason hypothetically? (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011 P.408).

Finding Nemo Research Paper
When going through life there are some adventures you have to face. Meeting new people, going
places you ve never been, and dealing with problems that get in the way. A couple movies by Walt
Disney have underlying stories that reflect exactly what those adventures can be like. The movies
Finding Nemo and Cars show what its like to go through life s battles but have a prize at the end.
The relationship of the two are not precisely the same but portray some of the same challenges that
life throws at you. They both have very different stories but almost the same layout and structure to
them. Finding Nemois a movie about a clown fish named Marlin who loses his only son, who he

The Reasons that Led to the Attack on the World Trade Center
I was only 6 years old at the time when the 9/11 happened, and I didn t find out until a few weeks
later when my parents showed me the video. I have never seen anything like that but in movies, so
the first thought that came up in my mind when I saw the video was what movie is that. My
parents tried to explain what was happening, but at the time, I couldn t process what had happened
or really understand what they explained. 12 years later I m 18 now, during that period of time I
immigrated to the United States, in school on the extended date of September 11 we always have
the moment of silence, and I didn t understand why we do the moment of silence, so I did some
research about 9/11. Now I clearly understand that the United States encounter the largest terrorist
attack in history, and the reason why the United States is involved in war with Afghanistan.
United States involvements in Afghanistan is one of the longest wars in our history. Rajiv
Chandrasekaran editor of the Washington post, describes the involvement as we ve asked them
to do a lot more, in a smaller serving force, in some of the longest wars in our history (2014. Para.
14). U.S. involvement in Afghanistan has been going on for many years, and for the first time
ever, our involvement was a mistake. The main reason why U.S. is involved in Afghanistan it s for
the attack on 9/11. As the Unite Nations charter s collective security frame work in the 21st century

The Slaughter Of Humans And Contemporary Animal Slaughter
Hung upside down by their feet, their throats are slit to drain the blood. This is an image that
appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist s novel, Let the
Right One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of
slaughter are humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist s novel tells of a
young and severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli.
Because of her childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, HГҐkan, to procure blood for
her. As he hangs his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, HГҐkan s
process of obtaining human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal
slaughter. However, the difference between HГҐkan s slaughter of humans and contemporary
animal slaughter is not merely the victims species but is, more importantly, the space in which
these acts occur. Despite meatconsumption s widespread acceptance, meat production by means of
slaughter is still visually disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen.
Indeed, since the 19th century, the slaughterhousehas been spatially located at the edges of urban
space in order to render its violent actions socially invisible. What happens, then, when the slaughter
occurs within the urban space as HГҐkan s acts of slaughter do? By comparing animal slaughter to
the novel s scenes of human slaughter in terms

Literary Criticism In Literature
The concept of language is integral to the survival and development of human advancement. It
formulates the structures and concepts by which civilizations abide by. The sensibilities and
thinking processes of people are all connected with this type of oral communication. Due to this,
much of the vocabulary is often built up to be as straightforward as possible. Not only that, but
frequent pieces of dialogue that are used to describe certain subjects and concepts have a high
probability of being cataloged for future reference. The memorized bits and pieces are then
repeated, learned, and accepted. As such, the realms of literature are definitively seen as the
culmination of language within a particular group or culture. While this communication between
individuals seems like a perfect solution for a majority of the population, that is not always the
case. Sometimes, the delivery of commonly acknowledged vocabulary gives said vocabulary a
different impact or meaning. In order to fully comprehend the shift in the usage of words and
phrases, one must meticulously pick them apart while also exploring any possibilities that can be
linked to them. This practice is known as deconstructive criticism. This form of literary criticism,
as Lois Tyson describes in her book Critical Theory Today: A User Friendly Guide, became a major
influence on literary studies during the late 1970s due to its specialization in revealing the hidden
messages and unconscious ideologies that litter

The Conflict Of Police Brutality Essay
We, as humans, come into conflict on a daily basis at all times of the day. We encounter conflict
on all levels in our home lives, social lives, entertainment and careers. Conflict is also brought to
our attention second and third handedly through word of mouth and the mass media and the
internet. Personally, locally, nationally, and globally conflict and problems surround us. Instead of
addressing personalized conflicts, I would like to attempt to provide critical analysis on a crucial
social issue facing the United States. This issue is police brutality, especially against minority,
particularly black Americans. I will attempt to do this with the root cause tool of critical analysis
and problem solving. The conflict of policebrutality has made national and international news. It
has also sparked a new social movement. While police brutality is not limited to minorities, the rate
that it used against African American individuals is alarming. To further the problem, no
perpetrator has been brought to justice and the victims and their families are left behind or blamed.
I will be using Root Cause Analysis model of critical analysis. This strategy consists of five steps.
They include:
Define the Problem
Collect Data
Identify Possible Casual Factors
Identify the Root Cause(s)
Recommend and Implement Solutions

Benefits And Benefits Of A Lunch Hours
Lunch hours are the times that the bank is busiest the most. The customers want to be sure that
they can be taken care of in a minimal amount of time and still have time left on their lunch hour.
Since most customers come during this time, the wait times can be a little longer. Reed (2014)
gives an example of a customer having to take a half day off from work just to complete account
documents. At Capital One, the customer may not need to take a half day to complete an account,
but the opening process does take about 45 minutes. Reed (2014) further explains that digital

During account opening, the banker has the customer sign a signature card. Once the signature card
is scanned, it is filed away. Sometimes, this may not happen and the document may be misplaced.
There are two inconveniences that this may cause: customer inconvenience and customer
information is compromised. The customer may be inconvenienced if the signature did not register
properly in the system; the customer may need to come back into the branch to complete another
signature card. In addition, there is so much personal information on this signature card that it
would be detrimental to the bank and to the customer if this information had been retrieved by
someone else. Electronic signatures could be a remedy for all these issues. If the customer signs a
signature pad, there is no information being left on a paper that can potentially get lost. Also, the
signature would already be on file before the customer leaves the branch so there would never be a
need for the customer to return to the branch to re sign a document.
POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS
Throughout the proposal, much information has been given to explain the benefits of implementing
a paperless environment at Capital One bank. There are also some drawbacks that should be taken
into consideration when deciding whether or not to implement this paperless environment. Table 3

The United States Justice System
Officers in a Texas McDonald s parking lot saw a black man and a white man in the process of
exchanging seats on a road trip from Florida to California, while leaving the parking lot; the
officer implied that the man driving did not use his right turn signal. The men alleged that their
privacy was invaded when the vehicle was searched without a warrant or permission from the
driver. When one of the men attempted to video tape the incident on a cell phone he was told to
stop. The term driving while black has been used to describe the practice of law enforcement
officers to stop African Americandrivers without probable cause (Weatherspoon, 2004). The United
States Justice System is based upon a flawed designed through miseducation of students in the
school system, maintaining of a slave mentally in the prison system, and the perceptions of African
Americans in America.
Currently, the Public School System is readying African American for a life in prison. Today,
many schools have been issued metal detectors and excessive cameras for monitoring students. I
believe that African American Students are not being prepared for college by high school faculty
and staff. Dr. Carter G. Woodson published a book called The Miseducation of the Negro in his
book he explains how miseducation leaves many African American students unprepared for a life of
competition with their racial counter parts. Woodson stated dooming the Negro to a brainwashed

I will use is within the subfield of the cultural studies approach, known as visual culture. This
approach is focused on art history/the fine arts approach meaning that it is influenced by art history
and focuses on the visual art. Visual culture is the aspect of culture that is expressed in visual
images. The rose window expresses visual culture through the fleur de lis symbols painted on the
window. When you translate fleur de lis to English, it means, flower of the lily . The fleur de lis
has many different meanings but traditionally it has been used to represent French royalty as
well as representing perfection and life (The Fleur De Lis). This can be related to the stained
glass window since the fleur de lis symbols are painted on the top half of the window along with
the scene of the birth of baby Jesus. The visual culture approach not only focuses on art history and
visual art, but four ways in which images participate in religious practices. These four ways include
communication, communion, commemoration, and imagination. The main way that sticks out to
me most is the commemoration category. This category focuses on images that remember
important people, places, and ideas that are being celebrated and remembered. There are a few

  • 3. Brave New World Vs Reality Essay Brave New World vs. Reality In many cases when you read a novel you may find comparisons between the quot;fictional quot; society and your realistic one. The author may consciously or unconsciously create similarities between these two worlds. The novelist can foresee the future and write according to this vision. In Brave New World, Adlous Huxley envisions the future of our society and the dangerous directionit is headed in. Brave New World is greatly dependant upon soma, as in our worldwhere prescribed drugs and drug abuse are prominent. This is evident when Bernard and Lenina return from the Savage Reservation. Lenina is devastated from her experiences, so decides to take soma. It illustrates how like our world when something upsets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People addicted to cocaine, heroine and other drugs go through a similar stage called withdrawal. Living without the drugs seem unimaginable and frightening. If our world does not stop this dangerous overuse of drugs we will see ourselves evolve into the frightening direction of Brave New World and will be unable to stop it. Physical and mental controlling (hypnopaedia) is used to teach moral lessons in Brave New World, our world uses hypnotism for the same purposes. The incident with Ruben Rabinovich illustrates how our world is similar to Brave New World. Ruben Rabinovivch was a young boy who fell asleep with the radio on listening to a professor give a lecture. When he awoke the next morning he could recite the facts he heard but, he did not know what they meant. This is similar to our world because people use tapes to help them learn and memorize facts and speeches. In Brave New World their society is taught moral lessons and slogans by hypnopaedia. For example quot;a gramme is better than a damn. quot; Today we are forced into believing propaganda and advertisements. We are bombarded with ads and pressure to buy certain things, or believe what people tell us. In Brave New World if they do not follow propaganda they are considered abnormal, and are forced out of society. When we are young children we are soothed from our crying by music and the voices of our parents. We are told we are loved and are spoken to. Throughout our lives we are ... Cant Stop Won T Stop Sociology I believe that Can t Stop, Won t Stop, Wild Style, Egyptian Lover, Finding the funk, and Breakin n Enterin speak to each other in helping narrate hip hop s origin mythologies. Each of these represent different sectors of the black community and how it all intertwines. Breaking down each element it will be easy to see how each goes hand in hand with each other. It was easy to see the different factors that are brought out in hip hop. During the music scenes you can hear the rapping in the music scenes. Egyptian Lover definitely brought out a different element out of the other four sectors. The reasoning of the name Egyptian Lover was to show and let women know he was a lover and not a fighter. Hip Hop was seen as an aggressive genre where people viewed it as being very violent. You are able to see how he interacted with the music to create a song. He was able to bring out Cold Crush Brothers, the Zulu Nation. Finding the funk outlined how funk influenced hip hop in a very immediate way. Funk was an element that was highlighted within hip hop. • 6. Penny Should Be Eliminated Essay Should the Production and Use of the Penny be Eliminated in the United States? By Sydni Peters If you gave Canada a penny for their thought, they d advise you to get rid of the small copper coins. In fact, Canada, as well as many other countries have already taken action to rid their nation of the need for their lowest valued currency. Meanwhile, in America, our one centcoins are losing their value while causing other prices to rise. To discontinue the minting of these coins would mean better prices and a better economy. Furthermore, pennies cost more than their value to create, leading to more debt for each impractical coin minted. Despite being a trademark piece of currency, the most opportune option would be the abandonment of pennies. However, in today s competitive market, many businesses would consider lowering prices to make their products more desirable. Currently, the government loses millions of dollars to the minting of pennies. • 7. Behind the Watergate Scandal Essay On June 17, 1972, five burglars broke into the offices of the Democratic National Committee located inside the Watergate Hotel in Washington. Frank Wills, a night security guard, discovered that the break in was occurring. Several office doorknob cylinders were covered with masking tape to hold the doors open (McConnell 11). As soon as Wills made this discovery, he telephoned the police. The five burglars, carrying electronic gear and photographic equipment, were arrested on site at 2:30 A.M. They were suspected of illegal wire tapping. This series of arrests sparked the beginning of what came to be known as the Watergate Scandal. The reporters also revealed that John Mitchell had controlled a secret fund for financing political spying and dirty tricks to weed out the presidential candidates of the Democratic Party. Due to those dirty tactics, Nixon was reelected on November 7, 1972. However, on February 7, 1973, with questions still remaining regarding the president s knowledge of the Watergate affair, the Senate voted to establish the Senate Watergate Committee, which was charged with investigating the extent of campaign abuses in the 1972 presidential election (McConnell 12). McCord, under oath before the Senate Watergate Committee, testified that Jeb Magruder, former Nixon aide, and White House counsel John Dean both were aware of the plans to bug the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. He also stated Mitchell had approved the plans. FBI Director L. Patrick Gray resigned after he confessed, on April 20, 1973, that he destroyed Watergate evidence because he was pressured by Nixon s aides. On June 25, Presidential counsel John Dean testified that Nixon had been paying the five burglars and two operatives whom were involved in planning the Watergate break in hush money. Yes, having quotas can diversify the class discussions, and help other students gain a different perspective on things. Terry Swenson says, race doesn t correlate with a particular viewpoint and, therefore, we look beyond skin color alone to a student s background (parental occupation, parental educational background, neighborhood) as we try to assess what different perspective he/she may bring to our campus. Your race doesn t necessarily change your views on issues, but your experiences, education, and geography do. • 9. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated a negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me, but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get back in the positive emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always been thinking win/lose to go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it very well and that it s going a lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and imagination, but I have to listen a little more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become successful and well liked, without having to take advantage of anyone. I loved to read his examples, especially the one of the software company that was almost going bankrupt and accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a way bigger service. It shows that if you think lose/win at first that it might be a bigger win later. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood When I recently arrived in Canada from The Netherlands I was shocked by the difference in the culture. I came from a ... Roger Chillingworth Character Analysis Characters to People Appearance is representative of a character s current state development along their journey of either growing as a person, or falling back into more feral tendencies that ultimately destroy their body, soul, or both. Despite what a character may express to the outside world, their appearance and actions delivers a relatable context of their hidden motives and well being thus imbuing them with human life. The outward appearance of Roger Chillingworth is one of the most distinct in the entire novel, even going as far as giving a glance into his future. When first introduced to Chillingworth, he is a quiet astute individual that is described multiple times as inquisitive and observant, traits that are red flags for a character searching for something. The work of Bethany Reid within, Narrative of the Captivity and Redemption of Roger Prynne , reveals similar sentiment. She starts her observation by noting, [In] Our first view of Roger Chillingworth... what we first observe about him underscores his mutable nature. (Reid, 46). Roger s nature starting off the story in this fashion is consistent to his inner motives; he simply wishes to learn more about Hester and her whereabouts. On the same page, however, it is noted that he has a slight hunch in his shoulders, a disfigurement of sorts. This disfigurement is our first clue into his future involvement in the conflict of the story as he becomes more and more disfigured within. Roger Chillingworth s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Knowledge in Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy and Hume s An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Rationalists would claim that knowledge comes from reason or ideas, while empiricists would answer that knowledge is derived from the senses or impressions. The difference between these two philosophical schools of thought, with respect to the distinction between ideas and impressions, can be examined in order to determine how these schools determine the source of knowledge. The distinguishing factor that determines the perspective on the foundation of knowledge is the concept of the divine. Descartes is a prime example of a rationalist. Once the certainty of Res Cogitans is developed, clear and distinct perceptions are replaced with clear and distinct ideas. It is these ideas from which Descartes derive knowledge, including the existence of Res Extensa (corporeal things). Therefore, Descartes, a rationalist, derives his knowledge from ideas and reason, all of which stem from an instance of natural light. The empiricists, however, do not believe in natural light and therefore do not hold knowledge to be derived from these innate ideas. David Hume is one of these empiricists. Hume was a scientist and an atheist; his occupation and beliefs disallowed him from holding innate ideas to be a valid basis for knowledge. In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume points out a hierarchy that exists among ideas and impressions: the most lively thought is still inferior to the most lively impression (Hume: 10). Hume also establishes that for all of his ideas he can trace them back to impressions, those for things which he has not had impressions of he cannot have an idea. What never was seen, or heard of, may yet be conceived: (Hume: 11) A blind man can form no notion of colours; a deaf man of sounds (Hume: 12). The room s ceiling is painted of the portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest. The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit tarts, and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are placed on a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial features are his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten skin. His skin hangs from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44). Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the film. The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the childhood and innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on individuality in an entire nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life. House Altar With Akhenaten, Nefertiti And Three Daughters Sarah Gordon Mrs. Jennifer Awes Freeman Art History 1 20 September 2014 House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for thousands of years. The Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from that consistency under the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to Akhenaten ) his Queen, Nefertiti and later, Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the sun god Aten, which is evident in the art that was commissioned. Instead of using strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An example of this stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters. The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of the 18th dynasty around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in homes that the royal couples subjects could worship. That altar features the royal couple and three of their daughters in a domestic setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are depicted as the only ones with access to the god Aten, characterized by a sun disk with a cobra engraved in it. If the discrepancy was due to the researchers Mansfield and Gilmore, what are they to make of their observations and study? What are we to do with centuries of history in which humans lived with menat the helm because they were needed? How are we to explain the unconscious feeling that a manis doing right when he works to provide for his family? How can we explain the opposite feeling when a man does not? The argument that is not being made on the manliness side is that men should be the only ones in government or in business or that misogyny plays any role at all. They are not arguing for a return of the patriarchy, but they are arguing for a return of true manliness. It is here that we find the real problem of men today. In a culture that ignores true masculinity and a society that has no need for men to follow a code, manliness has become something of the past. Recalling the illustration of Tahiti, men today have a Tahiti mindset. There is no longer any need for men to protect, provide and procreate due to the expansion of technology and culture. There is little to compel men to follow manly principles thus they simply choose not to. Jack Donovan puts it this way: For what may be the first time in history, the average guy can afford to be careless (188). Jewish American Literatue Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester, the concept of duty has been a major theme in various novels, such as in Anzia Yezierska s Bread Givers, Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s Herzog. Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow offer different circumstances, they all suggest a sense of responsibility from parent to child. I will show how the relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa and the living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain custody of his daughter June in Herzog. They are all significant in understanding the parent child commitment in Jewish American families. According to these three novels, parents are obligated to their children parents must give emotional support as well as security to them. According to Norman Soloman s Judaism: A Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated to carry out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by God s commandments. One must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible as a guide to holiness. The complete theological idea of a man s role in life is comprised within the notion of mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah, denotating obligation or duty is also used the same as mitzvah. Criminologists seek to understand the commission of crime in a given society, attempting to figure out why certain crimes occur, and then to study how these can be prevented, and deterred by individuals. The two key approaches I will examine in this assignment is that of the early Classicalist approach, and the opposing Positivist approach, each of which are crucial for understanding modern criminology today. In the late eighteenth century Britain went through an Enlightenment period, which is also referred to as The Age of Reason (Paine, 1794) and this is because reason was emphasised over religion, secularisation transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bentham then invented his idea of the perfect prison, the panopticon. This was a model prison where all prisoners where observed at all times by unseen guards. The Classicalist approach involves the punishments being just and reasonable, however still being able to deter individuals. This approach has been criticised by numerous theorists for many reasons. To begin with, despite this continuing change of the punishments towards offenders, from the earliest codes of public executions, towards a more subtle reformation and rehabilitation scheme, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 mirrors this idea, murder rates have not significantly changed. Also this theory emphasises much on rational thinking and freewill, however it is debated that we do not always behave in our best interest, there are times when individuals are intoxicated by alcohol so are not as conscious of their activities. Moreover, there are crimes which entails the offender gaining no rewards, and also victimless crimes illustrate that not all crimes and punishments are just . Theorists then sought to figure out another alternative way for understanding the commission of crime, as many began to doubt this theory that crime was a simple characteristic of the human nature. In the nineteenth century the Positivist approach was introduced, which brought a whole new way of thinking about criminals and certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Assyrian Art And Its Influences Of Assyrian Art And Their... Assyrian Art and Its Influences Assyrian art was long buried under the sands of time. The palaces collapsed, and the grave of the city was unrecognizable. In Wilkinson s Some New Contacts With Nimrud and Assyria he discusses these ancient people and their prevalence in today s museum society, as well as their possible influences. The Assyrian peoplewere very vicious and many descriptions of them in the Bible do not describe them to the extreme that they describe themselves. Since Assyrian art was buried for the longest time, people did not really understand them and their culture that well, which is why people such as Layard, an archeologist, were eager to discover more. Wilkinson describes how many museums didn t have any Assyrian exhibits until around the eighteen forties to the eighteen fifties. Wilkinson uses descriptive details, and references to describe Assyrian artwork and its prevalence to museum culture. Wilkinson describes Assyrian artwork in a very detailed way. He does this too support his claims that Assyrian artwork is a mixture of many cultures. Wilkinson states the since the Assyrian people conquered so many different groups of people, you are really able to see that influence within their artwork. The descriptions of these pieces allow the audience to follow his claims and make connections between artworks as well. For example, Wilkinson describes one of the ivory carvings found stating that the row of pretty gazelles, with one of them licking her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Siege Of Yorktown During The American War The Siege of Yorktown The Siege of Yorktown, otherwise known as the Battle of Yorktown or the German Battle, was the final and deciding battle in the American War for Independence. This blockade of American and French troops took place in Yorktown, Virginia, hence the name entitled to this bombardment. Led by George Washington, a Virginian Commander in Chief, the Continental Armytraveled south out of Williamsburg to surround Yorktown. Aided by French General de Rochambeau, this organized military force clashed against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and his troops of 9, 000 men. On September 18, 1781, the last major battle in North American of the American Revolution began. On this day, General Cornwallis chose Yorktown, the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, as his base due to its deep harbor, which allowed reinforcements to arrive by ship. Fortunately for the Patriots, Admiral Comte de Grasse and his French fleet departed Saint Domingo, a French colony or modern day Haiti, to the south of Chesapeake Bay. There, he defeated Admiral Thomas Graves, who was supposed to deliver the reinforcements to Cornwallis, at the Battle of Virginia Capes. As a result, George Washington realized that it was time to act and ordered Marquis de Lafayette, a French aristocrat and a military officer, with his troops of 5, 000 to encircle Cornwallis in Yorktown, while the French naval forces blocked his escapes by sea. Change Progress and Prosperity Change Progress and Prosperity The Harvest took place in a small, secluded, and self reliant agricultural community in England, before the industrial revolution. The novel was based on change, growth, progress and prosperity. The village, as the narrator Walter Thirsk stated was, far from everywhere (Crace, 3) and isolated from the world. The village was also fragmented and missing any development of identity. The commons were the people living in the unnamed village. The commons way of life changed from harvesting and plowing to extracting wool for clothing. Jim Craceexamined the themes of changeand fragmentation by the loss of identity and way of life through the use of symbols, characters, and imagery. In the Harvest, symbolism was evident throughout the novel. Symbols are commonly used to add richness and depth to the story. The author used symbols to develop the main themes of change and fragmentation. During the course of the novel, the most significant symbols included: fire, crops, ghost, unfinished cross, quills, sheep, wool, and the rock. In the novel, fire was the most impactful symbol. The novel started with two fires and ended in one. What starts with fire will end with fire (Crace, 198). Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as easily said than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and challenging as it contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the complexityof defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of the most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey complexity, especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of representation, then representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of a culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a significant factor in representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of representation should be: the people. Even though representation does indeed contain many complex factors and unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how to answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found within the thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The only form of complexity found within representation should be found within the thick descriptions of man, By doing so, the complexities of man becomes the focus of what true representations involves instead of the complexity of representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and should be a connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study of any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Piaget stressed that during the preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. This is an image that appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist s novel, Let the Right One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of slaughter are humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist s novel tells of a young and severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli. Because of her childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, HГҐkan, to procure blood for her. As he hangs his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, HГҐkan s process of obtaining human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal slaughter. However, the difference between HГҐkan s slaughter of humans and contemporary animal slaughter is not merely the victims species but is, more importantly, the space in which these acts occur. Despite meatconsumption s widespread acceptance, meat production by means of slaughter is still visually disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen. Indeed, since the 19th century, the slaughterhousehas been spatially located at the edges of urban space in order to render its violent actions socially invisible. It formulates the structures and concepts by which civilizations abide by. The sensibilities and thinking processes of people are all connected with this type of oral communication. Due to this, much of the vocabulary is often built up to be as straightforward as possible. Not only that, but frequent pieces of dialogue that are used to describe certain subjects and concepts have a high probability of being cataloged for future reference. The memorized bits and pieces are then repeated, learned, and accepted. As such, the realms of literature are definitively seen as the culmination of language within a particular group or culture. While this communication between individuals seems like a perfect solution for a majority of the population, that is not always the case. Sometimes, the delivery of commonly acknowledged vocabulary gives said vocabulary a different impact or meaning. In order to fully comprehend the shift in the usage of words and phrases, one must meticulously pick them apart while also exploring any possibilities that can be linked to them. This practice is known as deconstructive criticism. During account opening, the banker has the customer sign a signature card. Once the signature card is scanned, it is filed away. Sometimes, this may not happen and the document may be misplaced. There are two inconveniences that this may cause: customer inconvenience and customer information is compromised. The customer may be inconvenienced if the signature did not register properly in the system; the customer may need to come back into the branch to complete another signature card. In addition, there is so much personal information on this signature card that it would be detrimental to the bank and to the customer if this information had been retrieved by someone else. Electronic signatures could be a remedy for all these issues. If the customer signs a signature pad, there is no information being left on a paper that can potentially get lost. Also, the signature would already be on file before the customer leaves the branch so there would never be a need for the customer to return to the branch to re sign a document. POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS Throughout the proposal, much information has been given to explain the benefits of implementing a paperless environment at Capital One bank. There are also some drawbacks that should be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to implement this paperless environment. The United States Justice System Officers in a Texas McDonald s parking lot saw a black man and a white man in the process of exchanging seats on a road trip from Florida to California, while leaving the parking lot; the officer implied that the man driving did not use his right turn signal. The men alleged that their privacy was invaded when the vehicle was searched without a warrant or permission from the driver. When one of the men attempted to video tape the incident on a cell phone he was told to stop. The term driving while black has been used to describe the practice of law enforcement officers to stop African Americandrivers without probable cause (Weatherspoon, 2004). The United States Justice System is based upon a flawed designed through miseducation of students in the school system, maintaining of a slave mentally in the prison system, and the perceptions of African Americans in America. Currently, the Public School System is readying African American for a life in prison. Today, many schools have been issued metal detectors and excessive cameras for monitoring students. I believe that African American Students are not being prepared for college by high school faculty and staff. Dr. Carter G. Woodson published a book called The Miseducation of the Negro in his book he explains how miseducation leaves many African American students unprepared for a life of competition with their racial counter parts. Woodson stated dooming the Negro to a brainwashed sense of self confidence and achievement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Glass Window Of Chartes Cathedral I am choosing to interpret the north rose stained glass window of Chartes Cathedral. This beautiful stained glass window is located in the Notre Dame Cathedral in the town of Chartes, located near central France. I will use a couple different approaches to interpret this stained glass window. I will first begin analyzing this window through McDannell s method for interpreting material culture. The method consists of three different parts: description, analysis, and interpretation. To begin this process I will first analyze the window and provide details about the description of the window. This window consists of many different colors, some bright and some light. The main colors that stick out to me when I look at the window is purple,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will use is within the subfield of the cultural studies approach, known as visual culture. This approach is focused on art history/the fine arts approach meaning that it is influenced by art history and focuses on the visual art. Visual culture is the aspect of culture that is expressed in visual images. The rose window expresses visual culture through the fleur de lis symbols painted on the window. When you translate fleur de lis to English, it means, flower of the lily . The fleur de lis has many different meanings but traditionally it has been used to represent French royalty as well as representing perfection and life (The Fleur De Lis). This can be related to the stained glass window since the fleur de lis symbols are painted on the top half of the window along with the scene of the birth of baby Jesus. The visual culture approach not only focuses on art history and visual art, but four ways in which images participate in religious practices. These four ways include communication, communion, commemoration, and imagination. The main way that sticks out to me most is the commemoration category. This category focuses on images that remember important people, places, and ideas that are being celebrated and remembered. There are a few important people who are being expressed in this window such as Mary, baby Jesus, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
