Finding and Using OER
The Open Education Consortium is a worldwide community of higher education institutions committed to advancing open education and increasing global access to education. Open education uses openly licensed educational resources and practices to decrease the cost of education while increasing access, leading to more people being educated. The Consortium provides services and activities for members to collaborate, including an annual conference and webinars on implementation strategies. Open education resources can be freely used and modified to improve educational effectiveness worldwide.

Open Education Revolution: From Open Access to Open Participation
Una Daly, the Outreach Manager for the Open Courseware Consortium, gave a presentation on the history and growth of open education over the past decade. She discussed how open courseware initiatives have expanded from MIT OpenCourseWare to now include over 250 institutions worldwide. Daly also outlined current open education efforts focusing on community colleges, credentialing opportunities through MOOCs, and the community college consortium working to expand the use of open educational resources.

These slides formed part of a workshop at the 3rd Science Learning and Teaching Conference organised by science subject centres of the Higher Education Academy (UK). The Conference took place at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh in June 2009.
The workshop was based on our experience organising two distinct projects in which students produce digital video. In one, students keep a video diary of their experience as an undergraduate. In the second, students produce short videos about a bioethical topic they have been assigned. The video content is not included as part of this presentation.

As Seen On TV: Using broadcast media in bioscience teaching

Using broadcast media in your teaching
These are slides from a staff development workshop I ran at the University of Leicester, UK in September 2014 (they are lightly developed from an earlier version, from July, also available on slideshare). The main purpose of the session was to introduce colleagues to Box of Broadcasts, a tool for streaming clips of TV and radio programmes for educational purposes.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
