Assessment and Planning in Educational technology.pptxKavitha Krishnan
In an education system, it is understood that assessment is only for the students, but on the other hand, the Assessment of teachers is also an important aspect of the education system that ensures teachers are providing high-quality instruction to students. The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Course Adventuree #4 - Service Sectors in Your Community.pptx
1. ADVENTURE #4 – SERVICE
SECTORS IN YOUR COMMUNITY
By: Jacob Gallacher
S# 300351615
2. THE THREE SECTORS
• Public Sector: “Government either indirectly or directly delivers leisure
and recreation services” (Lunn, 2022)
• Commercial Sector: “The commercial sector has responded to the
business opportunities of leisure and recreation and has recognized the
need for innovative leisure and recreation goods, supplies, and services”
(Lunn, 2022)
• Voluntary Sector: “The voluntary sector is the area of service that has the
closest ties to local communities, as organizations in this sector are
operated primarily by volunteers” (Lunn, 2022)
3. SOUTH SURREY’S PUBLIC SECTOR
• South Surrey’s public library
• Grandview Hight's Secondary school
• South Surrey Recreational center
4. SOUTH SURREY’S PUBLIC LIBRARY
Photo from: https://www.surreylibraries.ca/locations/semiahmoo-branch
General information:
a) South Surrey public Library
b) 1815 152 St, Surrey, BC V4A 9Y9
c) The South Surrey public library is an
example of the public sector as it is funded
primarily through the government. This goes
for the worker’s pay, new books and upkeep
charges.
d) The Library as elements of recreation.
Largely in part due to the events held for all
ages within the building. Book enjoyers of all
ages can enjoy a book while the sit, meet
new people with similar taste and enjoy the
vast number of seminars and speakers that
come to talk about their new books and why
The public library can be evaluated under the public
sector through the “why” and “focus cliental.” The
why, “Usually free or fees are subsidized; necessary
for society Public good, ”(Lunn, 2022) the library has
no fee and free to sign up to sign-out books to read
and the focus cliental, is the “General public.” (Lunn,
2022)

0/our-newest-school-grandview-heights-secondary-is-ready-to-open-
its-doors-.html
General information:
a) Grandview Heights Secondary school
b) 16987 25 Ave, Surrey, BC V3Z 0Z9
c) Grandview is viewed as a public sector due
to it being government funded with little
help from personal and fundraisers
d) At Grandview heights secondary school, all
three NCCP topics are covered, coaching,
(physical) education and recreation. As
Grandview is a school, there are sport teams
which fall under coaching, physical education
classes which fall under (physical) education
and, for recreation, often after school there
will be drop-ins for different sports being
held for people of all skill levels.
6. GRANDVIEW HEIGHT'S SECONDARY
SCHOOL CONTINUED
• As I mentioned Grandview Heights Secondary school touched on the
NCCP of (physical) education. They do this through the required physical
education classes. When I was a student, my favorite activity to learn and
play was basketball but, without the help of James Naismith, this would
not of been possible, as mentioned in course adventure #2, he was the
creator of basketball and, “In 1891 he invented the game of basketball
while being in charge of the indoor physical education program for
Y.M.C.A.” (Lunn, 2022) Not only did he create the sport I love, he also
helped pave the way for many great P.E teachers to come as he molded
the physical education we know today and brought it to become more
resolved around sport where previously P.E was more for creating
healthy and fit young individuals to help fight in our wars.
7. SOUTH SURREY RECREATIONAL CENTER
Picture from:
https://www.surrey.ca/parks-recreation/recreation-facilities/south-surrey-recreation-
arts-centre
General information:
a) South Surrey Recreational center
b) 14601 20 Ave, Surrey, BC V4A 9P5
c) The South Surrey Recreational center is an example of a public
sector as its sole purpose is to give the people of south surrey a
weight gym, sport gym and many other utilities for a cheap fee.
Also, the rec center is funded through the government
d) The south surrey recreational center has coaching, education and
recreation. As the name suggests, recreation happens throughout
this establishment, with gyms being open for drop-ins, space able to
be booked out in case of an event and other fun activities. For
coaching, many community ran organizations run out of the
recreational centers as field and gym rents are cheaper as the
government gives them a better rate if they are a non-profit, also, it
is possible to book a private trainer to help you within the gyms.
Finally, education happens in every space of the rec center. Whether
that is parents coaching their kids, during community ran events or
even the many day camps that is ran through the rec center as a
forum of daycare for parents when their kids are out on break.
8. SOUTH SURREY’S COMMERCIAL SECTOR
• Southridge Secondary school
• Club 16 gym
• Morgan Creek golf course
9. SOUTHRIDGE PRIVATE SCHOOL
Picture from: https://www.southridge.ca/admissions/tuition-and-
fees
General information:
a) Southridge Private School
b) 2656 160 St, Surrey, BC V3Z 0B7
c) As the name suggests, Southridge is a part of the private
sector, as you must pay are large sum of cash to send your
child here. Which fits the general description perfectly,
“recreation for which the consumer pays and for which the
supplier expects to make a profit” (Lunn, 2022)
d) As we saw with Grandview Heights Secondary School,
Southridge connects to all three NCCP topics, coaching
education and recreation. Just as Grandview, Southridge
offers numerous sport teams to be apart of which fall
under coaching. Physical education classes which fall
under (physical) education, where students will be taught
basic movement and skill techniques for a variety of
physical activities and, the school offers many after school
programs such as sports, art, computer science and more,
something for each student.
10. CLUB 16 AND SHE’S FIT GYM
General information:
a) Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness / She’s FIT! Gym
b) 16050 24 Ave #135, Surrey, BC V3Z 0R5
c) Due to the Bi-weekly membership cost, Club16 falls under the
private sector. As Ed Lunn states, “The commercial sector has
responded to the business opportunities of leisure and
recreation and has recognized the need for innovative leisure
and recreation goods, supplies, and services.” (Lunn, 2022)
Club16 charges a premium for their service as before in the area,
there was not many gyms easily accessible, thus Club16 saw this
as an opportunity to create a busies that would fill this hole.
d) The gym itself only touches on recreation, as people within the
area workout at Club16 to better them selves as well to gain a
feeling of enjoyment and fulfillment. With Club16 you could
argue that is touches the coaching aspect of NCCP with the
trainers available to train you but, they are on contract and thus
not directly correlated with the gym.
Picture from: https://www.yelp.ca/biz/club16-trevor-linden-fitness-south-surrey-
surrey
Club16 can be evaluated under the private sector through “Why,”
“What,” “How much,” and “Where When How.” For why, Club16 is
“Provided for a cost; profit oriented,” (Lunn, 2022) for what, Club16 is
largely “Consumer desire, Based on demand, High level training and,
specialized service,” (Lunn, 2022) for how much, Club 16 relies on
“Revenue from fees and corporate sponsorship,” and for where when
how, Club16 targets “anyone who can afford the service, provided at
own facilities.” (Lunn, 2022)
11. CLUB 16 AND SHE’S FIT GYM
CONTINUED
• As a human, it is in our nature to strive for the best in life, whether that is
the best house, cars, job or our ideal self image. Club16 understands this
and markets their business to people attempting to reach their ideal self
image. As it is stated in course adventure #1, “Your ISI is a description of
a best possible version of yourself – a picture of you fulfilling your
potential as a skilled, happy, expressive, and self-actualized person. It is
a positive mental image of the person that you want to be and become.”
(Lunn, 2021) With this in mind, CLub16 and She’s fit has been able to
target these individuals and make a profit off their life goals.
12. MORGAN CREEK GOLF COURSE
Photo from:
https://www.morgancreekgolf.com/golf/photos
General information:
a) Morgan Creek Golf Course
b) 3500 Morgan Creek Way, Surrey, BC V3Z 0J7
c) Morgan Creek golf course is part of the private sector as it
is privately own, thus making its income through the
goods and activities they offer.
d) Just as the schools, Morgan Creek golf course represents
the three NCCP topics perfectly. Coaching happens
everywhere on the course, whether it is at the range with a
private coach or just some friendly advice from your buddy
out on the course. Education is represented with the warp-
up area and the range where you can find people of all
skill levels working and improving their game, from basic
techniques to mastery skills. Recreation is happening
allover, from the course to the practice facility and even
the club house. There is something to do for all people
here, allowing you to find enjoyment in many things.
13. SOUTH SURREY’S VOLUNTARY SECTOR
• Coastal Football club
• Good shepherd Church
• Peace Arch Scouting group
14. COASTAL FOOTBALL CLUB

camps
General information:
a) Coastal Football club
b) 2295 148 St, Surrey, BC V4A 0B1
c) Coastal FC is an example of the non-profit sector, is
part due to majority of the jobs required to run the
program are volunteer, which allows the FC to keep
the cost down thus, making their program more
accessible to families.
d) Coastal FC represents both coaching and recreation.
Each team has a coach that helps develop each child
that is on their team, teaching them basic sport and
non-sport specific skills to help develop the child.
Also, recreation, parents sign their kids up to coastal
for many reasons, mainly due to the exercise and
chance to meet new friends but, for the child, being
signed up for Coastal means you are gaining physical
fitness and literacy while enjoying your time and
15. GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH
Photo from:
https://canada247.info/explore/british_columbia/greater_vancouver/surrey
/good_shepherd_church.html
General information:
a) Good Shepherd church
b) 2250 150 St, Surrey, BC V4A 9J3
c) The Church of Good Shepherd falls under the non-profit
sector. As they solely rely on donations from their patrons
to keep open and to be able to offer many free camps,
Sunday school and other activities for their community
d) All churches are different but for Good Shepherd, they
touch on the NCCP topic of recreation. As a church they
offer many programs free of charge for children. Including
summer camps, bible lessons and even sport activities.
The Good Shepherd Church can be evaluated as a non-profit through “Why” “How Much” and
“Who.” For why, the Church takes donations to “sustaining services” (Lunn, 2022) that they offer
to their community. For how much, the Church asks for “donations and fundraising” (Lunn,
2022) to keep operations running and, for who, the Church targets “The group who establish
interest,” (Lunn, 2022) such as Catholics.
16. GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH CONTINUED
• The Good Shepherd Church can be related to our course adventure #3
through the medical wheel. The church is built on the values of faith,
spirituality, trust, mental and physical embodiment. Just with the
aboriginals within the course adventure, the people of the church use
the four sides of the medicine wheel, spiritual, metal, physical and
emotional to embody their views and “achieve balance and harmony in
all four areas” (Lunn, 2022) of their lives.
17. PEACE ARCH SCOUTING GROUP
Picture from: http://www.6thpeacearch.com/
General information:
a) 6th Peace Arch Scouting Group of beavers, cubs and
scouts
b) Located at a variety of locations surrounding South
Surrey and Peace Arch
c) The Scouts are part of the non-profit sector, as the
leaders are often volunteers that are either parents or
individuals that went through the program themselves
and want to provide the opportunity that they had to the
next generation
d) The Scouting groups represent both education and
recreation. The education portion is often correlated with
the badges they earn through learning and mastering
new skills, which can range from basic motor skills to
more advance life skills. Recreation is represented
through the many activities they perform from sports, to
