3. Importance of Partnerships
• Cooperation with specialized institutions means that each party brings
technical skills and expertise
This allows an opportunity for people to work together for the benefit of
countries;
It allows access to a larger pool of experts with experience that can add
value to capacity building activities;
And it can also benefit in terms of access to data (i.e. more data or
resources to obtain more data)

5. UN Agencies
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
• United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA)
The FAO - UNECA partnership lays the foundation for a wider and more comprehensive data
sharing network for all 54 countries in the African continent in the spirit of the Open Data concept
and initiative. The partnership brings together expertise, data, systems and knowledge for
providing services to countries and regional economic communities in an effort to make African data
more visible and useful. Through the provision of capacity development and technical assistance
services country requests for support will be addressed and information systems will be
strengthened.
• FAO - Forestry
The Global Forest Resources Assessment 2010 (FRA 2010) is the most comprehensive
assessment of forests and forestry to date. It examines the current status and recent trends for
about 90 variables covering the extent, condition, uses and values of forests and other wooded
land, with the aim of assessing all benefits from forest resources. Information has been collated
from 233 countries and territories for four points in time: 1990, 2000, 2005 and 2010.
• FAO - Monitoring African Food and Agricultural Policies (MAFAP)
MAFAP develops innovative analysis for policymakers and other stakeholders in the food and
agricultural sector. Our information products include country reports, commodity-specific technical
notes, policy briefs and country profiles. These documents cover most of the key issues driving food
and agricultural policy dialogue in our partner countries.

World Food Programme (WFP)
Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Assessment Survey
Data from WFP’s Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis
(CFSVA) assessments provide users with a picture of the food security
situation and vulnerability of households in a country. This assessment is
carried out in countries that are subject to recurrent crises. The CFSVA data
answers the following key questions:
• Who are the food-insecure and vulnerable people?
• How many are there?
• Where do they live?
• Why are they food-insecure?
• What is the appropriate assistance to reduce vulnerability and food insecurity?

7. Regional Organizations
CountrySTAT works in partnerships with regional organizations as we can
often share with them the benefits of our existing relationship in many of
their member states, and they can help us expand our network, better
understand the regional context and data needs, and provide regional
expertise that the CountrySTAT team may be lacking.
• SADC
• East African Community (EAC)
• UEMOA (Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa)
• Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)
Interest has been expressed by COMESA and CEMAC to join the
CountrySTAT network in the near future.
