Turkey considers aquaculture an important sector for its national economy in terms of production, employment, and exportation. Turkey has significant aquatic resources including over 8,000 km of coastline that support its aquaculture industry. In 2012, marine fish production made up over 60% of Turkey's total aquaculture output of around 211,000 tonnes. Key farmed species include sea bass, sea bream, and rainbow trout produced through intensive cage and pond systems. Turkey also raises tuna through cage farming and has a developing hatchery and feed sector to support its aquaculture industry.
