This project implemented a food insecurity screening survey in a clinical setting serving low-income adults with diabetes. The goals were to improve provider and staff knowledge of food insecurity, standardize a screening protocol, and increase the number of patients screened and receiving nutrition counseling. After providing education to staff, the percentage of at-risk patients screened for food insecurity increased from 0% at baseline to over 70% after three months. Most screened patients were identified as food insecure. The project demonstrated how screening and addressing this social risk factor can help improve diabetes outcomes.

The Parents Under Pressure (PuP) Program

The Parents Under Pressure (PuP) Program is a 12-module home-based parenting program that aims to reduce child abuse potential, parental stress, and child behavior problems. The modules can be addressed in any order based on family priorities and are supplemented by liaison with other social services. Studies have found the PuP program reduces child abuse potential, parental stress and improves child behavior, and for every 100 families treated there would be an estimated savings of AU$3.1 million.

The review identified 35 studies assessing 87 handwashing and 39 sanitation outcomes. However, outcomes were highly diverse in terms of data type (binary vs continuous), timing of assessment (uptake, adherence, long-term use), and study design (experimental vs quasi-experimental). Only a few outcomes, such as handwashing after defecation and open defecation practices, were measured uniformly across studies. The review concludes that standardized definitions and monitoring of WASH behaviors are needed to improve evidence synthesis and guide policy recommendations on WASH promotion programs.

This research article examines strategies to improve uptake of preventive treatment for schistosomiasis among school-age children in Uganda. Serial cross-sectional surveys were conducted before and after a mass drug administration (MDA) program in 2012 that aimed to increase teacher motivation and supervision. The surveys found that self-reported uptake of preventive treatment increased from 28.2% at baseline to 48.9% after the MDA program implemented strategies like retraining teachers, providing incentives and strengthening supervision. However, prevalence and intensity of Schistosoma mansoni infection, children's knowledge of the disease, and reported side effects did not change. The increased treatment uptake was still lower than WHO recommendations and not enough to impact disease prevalence

Nurses at Pace University propose implementing a "no interruption zone" using red tape on floors and having nurses wear red vests to reduce medication errors. Interruptions during medication preparation and administration are linked to higher error rates. The intervention aims to decrease errors by reducing interruptions and distractions. Nurses will be able to administer drugs without interference in the designated zones. Effectiveness will be evaluated by comparing error rates in the six months before and after the changes. The goal is to show decreased errors after establishing "no interruption zones" and using identifying vests.

PrEP for STIs needs more research on effects and should be part of comprehensive prevention strategies that consider targeting, monitoring, and equity. It may contribute to global goals if risks like resistance are addressed.

The study tested a web-based intervention called Fresh Facts that was designed to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in young adults based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. The intervention consisted of emails delivered every 3 days over 30 days that targeted attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. While the intervention led to improvements in attitudes and subjective norms, it did not significantly impact perceived behavioral control, intentions, or fruit and vegetable intake. Both the intervention and control groups saw increases in some measures from baseline to follow-up. The study suggests more work is needed to understand mechanisms driving changes in the control group and to target more proximal predictors of consumption behavior.

Abstract Background: Hypertension is the most common non-communicable disease and the leading cause of cardiovascular disease in the world. Current management of hypertension stressed the importance of salt and diet modifications. Unfortunately, many hypertensive patients do not have proper knowledge of this, which results to inadequate practice. Therefore, there is need to develop strategies that will help to improve knowledge and practice of salt and diet modifications among hypertensive. Objective : To determine the effect of nursing intervention on knowledge and practice of salt and diet modifications among hypertensive patients. Materials and Methods : A quasi experimental design was conducted using purposive sampling to select the sample size of 38 participants. A researcher-developed questionnaire derived from the literature review and Hypertension Self-Care Activity Level Effects (H-SCALE) adapted from Warren-Find low and Seymour (2011) was used to measure knowledge and practice of salt and diet modification among the participants. Data gathered from participants were expressed using tables and percentages while research questions were answered with descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation through statistical package for the social science software version 21. Results : the study revealed that higher percentage of the participants (81.6%) had poor of knowledge of salt and diet modification pre-intervention, also 92.1% of the participants reported poor practice before intervention. Intervention was given to the participants and results showed a positive change in knowledge and practice of salt and diet practice post-intervention. Conclusion : regular training should be given to hypertensive patients by nurses to improve their knowledge and practice of salt and diet modification for effective blood pressure control. Hypertension is a global public health challenge due to its high prevalence and the associated risk of stroke and cardiovascular diseases in adults. Globally, hypertension is implicated to be responsible for 7.1 million deaths and about 12.8% of the total annual deaths (World Health Organization (WHO), 2018). Duffy, DNP, RN, CPNP, Wendy Fitzgerald, RN, MSN, PPCNP-BC, CPON®, Kelley Boyle, MSN, RN, PCNS-BC, and Radha Rohatgi, PharmD, BCOP CISPLATIN IS A PLATINUM COMPOUND THAT HAS BEEN USED as a chemotherapeutic agent for many different cancers, including ovarian, testicular, lung, cervical, and bladder cancers (Ruggiero, Rizzo, Trombatore, Maurizi, & Riccardi, 2016; Santoso, Lucci, Coleman, Shafer, & Hannigan, 2003). The primary dose- limiting toxicity of cisplatin is nephrotoxicity, a well-known side effect (Jones, Spunt, Green, & Springate, 2008; Miller, Tadagavadi, Ramesh, & Reeves, 2010). Nephrotoxicity involves glomerular or tubular dysfunction of the kidneys after exposure to medications, other treatments, or toxins (Skinner, 2011). Nephrotoxicity associated with cisplatin is related to accumulation of metabolites in the renal proximal tubule cells of the kidneys, where about 90% of cisplatin undergoes urinary excretion (Ruggiero et al., 2016). Accumulation of these metabolites causes direct inflammation; the production of reactive oxygen species, which leads to oxidative cell damage; and cell death (Miller et al., 2010; Ruggiero et al., 2016). Many methods are available to measure kidney function and define nephrotoxicity or acute kidney injury (see Table 1). Most patients receiving cisplatin experience acute impairment of glomerular and tubular function in varying degrees. Toxicity is dependent on individual cisplatin pharmacokinetics and is usually more severe with high total cisplatin doses and when other potential nephrotoxic medications are given concurrently (Skinner, 2011; Womer, Pritchard, & Barratt, 1985). In one study, children aged 10 years or older at treatment had a lower glomerular filtration rate 10 years after therapy compared to children aged younger than 10 years at treatment (Skinner et al., 2009). Nephrotoxicity can be reversible, but for some individuals, it can result in permanent kidney injury, chronic progressive renal failure, or renal tubule function impairment (Skinner et al., 2009). Chronic and severe reductions of renal function have several sequelae. The immediate impact may be dose reduction or cessation of potentially lifesaving nephrotoxic chemotherapy, thereby increasing the risk of relapse or progression of the cancer. In the event of a disease relapse or progression, changes to renal function may limit enrollment in phase 1 or 2 clinical trials because of inclusion parameters related to baseline renal function. Hydration and diuretics have been used in conjunction with cisplatin administration for decades to improve the excretion of cisplatin and reduce the incidence of nephrotoxicity. The role of bowel preparation in colorectal surgery

This study analyzed data from over 27,000 patients in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database who underwent elective colorectal resection from 2012 to 2015. The study found that while mechanical bowel preparation alone did not reduce postoperative infections, the combination of mechanical and antibiotic bowel preparation resulted in significantly fewer surgical site infections and Clostridium difficile infections compared to no preparation or antibiotic preparation alone. The authors conclude that combined mechanical and antibiotic bowel preparation should be used for elective colorectal resections when possible due to its effectiveness in reducing infectious complications.

Experimental studies are considered the best type of study design to scientifically test hypotheses and evaluate interventions. There are two main types - animal studies and human studies. Human studies include randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which are the gold standard. RCTs prospectively assign participants to intervention or control groups randomly to reduce bias. They aim to test for efficacy and effectiveness of preventive, diagnostic, or therapeutic interventions. Well-designed RCTs are essential for drawing causal conclusions about medical interventions.

This study investigated the effects of one-stage full mouth disinfection (OSFMD) using a 20% propolis hydroalcoholic solution in chronic periodontitis patients. 30 patients were divided into a test group that received SRP followed by OSFMD using the propolis solution and a control group that received SRP alone. Clinical parameters including gingival index, plaque index, probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment level as well as microbiological counts of key periodontal pathogens were compared at baseline, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks. The results showed greater reductions in clinical parameters and microbial counts in the test group compared to the control group, indicating the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects of propolis.
