Usually, the design, implementation and evaluation of
the public policies are sustained in statistical

with the statistics.

Methodological Combination in this study
• Measurement-explanation/comprehension. The quantitative information
allowed us to know the magnitude and distribution of social vulnerability
of a large population, and the qualitative, in the smaller groups, delve into
how persons and families live this phenomenon.
• The generic and the specific. The quantitative information allows us to
make comparisons with other populations and qualitative information
about the particularity was obtained, avoiding the universalization or
homogenization sometimes given by statistical information.
• Synchronic and diachronic. The quantitative approach offered a panoramic
picture of the phenomenon and qualitative offered the ability to track
biographies and generations.
• New indicators. The qualitative information will allowed to define new
indicators or variables to futures quantitative studies
Main Challenges
• Multidisciplinary work teams
• The combination of methods should start from the beginning of the
studies but should be adjusted throughout the process. It is
important to define clear questions and objectives.
• Do not ask what methods can not give or evaluate them from other
paradigms.
• Improve the quality of secondary sources and unify the surveys
variables to facilitate articulation (improve informations sistems)
.

Editor's Notes
