Corporate Culture at Starbucks
At its most basic, corporate culture is the personality of an organization or simply how things are
done around there. However, in a broader sense it refers to 'the moral, social and behavioral norms
of an organization based on the beliefs, attitudes and priorities of its members.' It determines how
employees think, act and feel. Every organization has a different concept about the kind of culture
that it should have, therefore cultures across organizations may differ despite of having certain
common elements1. However common to all organizations is the essential need of fostering a sense
of family so that employees do not feel that their work is isolated from other parts of their lives. In
fact the culture of an organization should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is amazing to see the way Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks schedules his day. Starting off at 6
a.m., he believes in doing his emails himself and responds to almost 75% of the emails he receives
daily. Schultz is known for carrying a black binder with him everywhere he goes, which he uses to
write down what people tell him so he can use actual facts when it comes to giving reviews or
solving issues. In one day, on average, Schultz leaves a 100 voicemail messages, writes 25 personal
thank you notes and signs 500 birthday cards. He believes it is very important for him to connect to
his employees and to make them feel connected and close to him. This attitude reduces
communication barriers and thus eliminates a lot of problems. Schultz ideally likes to dedicate 20 to
25% of his time to his employees during which visiting stores is his favorite activity since according
to him if you really want to know what's wrong with the business you should ask the frontline. Such
visits also help him make and maintain a personal connection with all of the frontline employees
and show them that the organization actually cares about what happens even at the smallest level.
Schultz tries new coffee flavors and listens to his employees complain spending time with them like
any normal employee striving to make Starbucks a better place11. The fact that Starbucks manages
to keep such a huge organization connected like a small community helps make employees feel

Advantages Of Starbucks Business Strategy
3:2 Starbucks basic Strategy:
According a research carried out by John Dudovskiy (2017), Starbucks business strategy is based on
the following four pillars:
1. Present 'third–place' experience: Apart from selling coffee and snacks, the cafe giant is design to
offer third–place experience. The business place is so relaxing that customers tend to stay longer
and purchase more coffee and snacks and wants to come back again.
2. Offers high quality coffee: The coffee industry is highly competitive, so one of the Starbucks
basic strategies is its product differentiation. Even with the high price range of their product,
customers are ever willing to pay premium price. Their customer service is outstanding, which gives
them more competitive advantages. The cafe giant plans to speed up the presentation of the roaster

Starbucks recent strategy that was announced by Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive
officer of the brand was good but lacks some vital component that has the capacity of enhancing
their market share. This day's people are becoming more and more concern about global warming,
so a lot of customer will tend to patronise brands that care about the earth, compare to brands that
cares less. As part of their corporate social responsibilities, Starbucks need to carry out a massive
orientation on the steps they are taking as a corporate organisation to save the planet. Take for
instance, if a go green conscious consumer is aware of how Starbucks buys its coffee beans only
from coffee farmers who follows the international best practice of cultivating and harvesting coffee
beans, which helps to preserve the earth, the consumer would wants to spend his money in a
company that has the same objectives with him. This can be included into their business

Starbucks : Organizational Evaluation Report
Starbucks: Organizational Evaluation Report
Introduction "The servant–leader is servant first... It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to
serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead." – Robert K. Greenleaf
Starbucks is a multibillion–dollar empire with an unwavering monopoly on the coffee industry and
its powerful presence is not going anywhere anytime soon (Forbes, 2015, p.1). In 1971, the first
Starbucks opened it's door in Seattle's Pike Place Market with one mission in mind: "Every day, we
go to work hoping to do two things: share great coffee with our friends and help make the world a
little better (Starbucks Corporation, 2015, p.1). Since it's creation, Starbucks has always
implemented the Servant Leadership Model (Starbucks Corporation, 2015, p.1). With a maintained
focus on their mission and values, Starbucks' corporate leaders have earned a vast degree of success
in using this model while also encouraging their employees do so as well (Starbucks Corporation,
2015, p.1).
Mission Statement & Values
Starbucks' mission is "To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one
neighborhood at a time" (Starbucks Corporation, 2015, p.1). Starbucks values "creating a culture of
warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome, Acting with courage, challenging the status quo
and finding new ways to grow our company and each other. Being present, connecting with

Reasons to Turn Someone Down
You should write a letter of recommendation only if you can honestly write a supportive letter for
someone for a given position. After all, a letter of recommendation is supposed to be a tool for
helping people obtain what they are after. If you don't know the candidate well enough to write a
good letter, let the person know. He or she will probably ask someone else. If you do know the
candidate well but have some reservations, let the person know about your concerns, and leave it up
to him or her to decide whether you should still write the letter.
PREPARATION
Read Some Sample Letters
If you have never written a letter of recommendation before, read a stack of reference letters to see
what works and what doesn't. Most faculty have access to graduate student applications and the
letters submitted. Junior faculty can also ask their more experienced colleagues to share "sample"
letters they have written or have received from applicants (blocking out names and other personal
information). The resource section of this chapter provides links to sample letters.
Collect Information
Once you know what a letter of recommendation looks like, make sure you find out as much as
possible about the candidate for whom you are writing. One of the worst things you can do is to
write a letter that is too generic. Ask for the following information:

Satan's Pity in Paradise Lost
"O Hell!" Satan's opening exclamation of frustration immediately alerts readers to Satan's state of
mind. As Satan gazes on Adam and Eve, he is struck by their blissful state, which sends him into a
spiral of confusion as he slightly reconsiders his plan to destroy them. To himself, Satan addresses
the pair; he begins regretful and with pity for Adam and Eve. He later shifts in tone to vengeful,
envious, and angry. Further exemplifying Satan's contrasting attitudes, Milton uses antonymous
words of emotion throughout the passage. By the end of passage, Milton solidifies Satan's hardening
of heart and ends the struggle that has been festering inside Satan since his first act of rebellion
against God. Milton successfully uses both the shift in tone and the emotional diction to reveal
Satan's stormy internal conflict.
Throughout the passage, Milton inserts beautifully emotional words that describe Satan's contrasting
feelings: grief and joy, woe and bliss, loathing and delight. The positive feelings that Satan
expresses, though describing Adam and Eve's state, reflect the good nature in Satan. That nature is
visibly small, as Satan describes himself as joyful or blissful. He merely observes this happiness in
Adam and Eve; he even speaks the words with hints of regret. The negative words have a much
more powerful effect: Satan uses these words to describe his own feelings and his own domain,
Hell. The feelings of grief, woe, and loathing are his, not Adam and Eve's, and thus

Angels Essay
Angels
An angel is a pure spirit created by God. The Old Testament theology included the belief in angels:
the name applied to certain spiritual beings or intelligences of heavenly residence, employed by God
as the ministers of His will.
HISTORY
Are Angels ambassadors sent from God to guide us, protect us or bring messages from heaven? The
word angel comes from the Greek word "angelos" which means messenger. The Bible says that God
has appointed many angels to those who love God and call to Him, "Psalms 91:11 For He shall give
His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways." The bible refers to different types of
angels, with varying duties such as ugides, protectors, messengers and angels of the Lord, or as ...

For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. When Joseph woke up, he did what
the angel of the Lord commanded. He brought Mary home to be his wife." Matthew 1:20–24
Dionysius, a 5th or 6th century writer gives us the hierarchical order of the angels. The first group is
the seraphim, cherubim and thrones. The word seraphim (singular is saraph) is taken from the fiery
imagery often associated with the Presence of God–– Ezek. 1:27. Cherubim are represented as
guardians with many wings. Thrones have been depicted wearing stoles and kneeling before God
Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he
covered his feet, and with two he flew" . Isaiah 6:2
So He drove out the man; and placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming
sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life". Gen. 3:24
The 2nd group is composed of dominations, virtues and powers. Each group is associated with
specific symbols. The dominations held scepters and wore crowns. The virtues are shown with
flasks of perfume, trumpets, and rays of lightening. The powers are depicted wielding flaming

Analysis Of The Souls Of Black Folk By W. E. B. Du Bois
In examining the conversations revolving around democratic elections in the past year, it has
become increasingly clear that these conversations revolve around the idea of freedom and
individualism in a multicultural and a multi–religious society. However, while these discussions
maybe expressed in different or new contexts today, it is critical to recognize that these
conversations of freedom and individualism have been informed by a wide array of historical
figures. The historical figures have also built on tradition in order to generate new arguments about
the nature of freedom and individualism in their own contemporary contexts. Consequently, this
paper will examine these concepts in The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois, a revolutionary ...

Throughout his entire book, Du Bois displays how individualism and freedom can be achieved in a
multicultural society through the ability to generate media as he said, " I know that these songs are
the articulate message of the slave to the world. They tell us in these eager days that life was joyous
to the black salve, careless and happy....They are the music of an unhappy people, of the children of
disappointment; they tell of death and suffering and unvoiced longing toward a truer world, of misty
wanderings and hidden ways" (Du Bois 1994:157). Therefore, Du Bois contends that if individuals
recognize oppression and the oppressed are able to use their new platforms to express themselves,
then freedom and individualism are actualized in society. In the modern context, Omi and Winant
write that, " The necessity to define characters in the briefest and most condensed manner has led to
the perpetuation of racial caricatures, as racial stereotypes serve as shorthand for scriptwriters,
directors and actors, in commercials, etc... Races do not emerge full–blown. They are the results of
diverse historical practices and are continually subject to challenge over their

Howard Zinn 's The United States
Howard Zinn 's A People 's History of the United States has been highly influential since its initial
publication in 1980. It spawned adaptations for young readers (a two–volume adaptation by
Rebecca Stefoff: A Young People 's History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History
Channel documentary based on Zinn 's work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic
figure to many, especially for this book and for his ongoing teaching and social activism, which
were directly related.
A People 's History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A
1980 Library Journal review called it "brilliant and moving" and said it was well–designed to appeal
to both historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of
these critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball 's review in the conservative National Review
labeled Zinn a "Professor of contempt" and dismissed the work as the ultimate in "anti–American
history," a patchwork of leftist clichés. Oscar Handlin 's review for The American Scholar dismissed
both Zinn 's approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn 's claims
as fallacious.
Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn 's
reasoning directly. Bruce Kuklick 's review of the book for The Nation suggested that A People 's
History of the United States was essentially a textbook for the left, and as such it

Essay on The Life and Legend of Howard Hughes
The Life and Legend of Howard Hughes
Throughout the 20th century, it has been the media's job to pinpoint what events and people would
prove to be an effective story. This was certainly the case for Howard R. Hughes. Son to the wealthy
Howard Hughes Sr., Howard became the interest of the American people and newspapers for most
of his life. Being deemed one of the most famous men of the mid–20th century was greatly
attributed to Hughes's skills as an industrialist, aviator, and motion–picture producer combined with
his enormous wealth, intellect, and achievement. The media thrived on Howard's unusual and
sometimes scandalous life, especially in his later years when newspapers would frequently front

Cash flowed freely into and back out of Sharp–Hughes Tool. Big Howard became a first class
socialite, and began to spend increasing amounts of time and money on parties, automobile racing
and travel. One of his amusements was to charter a railroad car, fill it with friends, and conduct a
rolling party between Texas and California. In the spring of 1921, Mrs. Hughes past away and Big
Howard died as abruptly as his wife, willing his three– fourths of his estate to his only son, Howard
Robard Hughes. Big Howard left an estate appraised for tax purposed at $871,518. As a less
attractive part of his legacy, he left behind $258,000 in unpaid bills, including $2,758 to Brook
Brothers Clothiers, $5,502 to Cartier's in New York, and $3,500 for a grand piano. Howard Hughes
Jr. was born on Christmas Eve, 1906 in Houston, Texas. He was commonly known as Sonny, or
Little Howard, despite the fact that he was 6'3" by the age of 16. Hughes was the student of 7
different schools, of which he graduated from none, excelling only in mathematics. As a young man,
Hughes had a penchant for all things mechanical and was known to spend hours tinkering on
various different devices. Little Howard had only one friend, the son his father's business partner,

where his son could always be found playing with various bits of wires and pieces of metal. At the

Guardian Angel Movie Analysis

meddling in the love live's of others, is tasked by the Angel Michael to help the town of Angel Falls
find its Christmas spirit again.
First of all, I want to say that this film surpassed all my expectations. Sometimes, I am hesitant
when it comes to "angel films," but because of who the three stars are (and especially because of the
male lead), I was determined to give this film a chance. Furthermore, it is airing on Hallmark, and
how could I not watch it? If you are looking for a film that follows the Scriptural teachings of
angels, this might not be for you. I could speak to all the reasons why the theology of the movie is
unsound, but that is not why I watched this film. The film is so uncommonly well–written and acted
with such depth that I could care less about whether the story could ever happen or not. The values
of the film are intact, and if nothing else, I applaud Hallmark for emphasizing the concept of "free
will" (something most Christians and church people esteem) and including the Lord's Prayer (how
often do we see that on network TV?). I did not plan on becoming emotional during this movie, but
I literally spent the last twenty minutes or so crying off and on because the story was remarkably
poignant (and I wasn't certain how it would end) and the three main actors––Rachel Boston, Paul
Greene, and Beau Bridges––are such phenomenal artists!

What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost
Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V & VI Milton's scale of
nature, while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to "ascend to God" by "steps,"
(V.512). This creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up and
down the scale based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a
human can only climb so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a human
because it is lacking the spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human, while
living, could never attain the same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for some
degree of mobility, each sect of the scale is confined within the parameters that God set forth. If the
creation was "one first matter all" as Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that all matter
came from God. Not only does this reconcile science and religious beliefs because as Newton's First
Law says, "Matter can neither be created nor destroyed," but it also asserts that all matter begins as
being inherently good. This explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science says there can be
no absolute nothing. Milton's attempts to resolve the religion versus science issues are made
stronger by his references to Galileo and astronomy. But Milton's version of the creation tackles the
problem of absolute nothingness. If there were absolute nothingness before matter, then that
nothingness would have had to

Essay on Censorship in Television and Radio
Censorship in Television and Radio
For our group project we, group 6, decided to focus our attention on censorship in television and on
the radio. We showed most of the attention to the Janet Jackson incident in Super Bowl 38 when
looking at television, and for radio, focused on the FCC and disc jockeys like Howard Stern. Here
are the television articles as done by three of our group members.
If there is a single most important event that happened in television that caused major ramifications,
it would be the Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the halftime show at Super Bowl 38.
In this incident Janet Jackson exposed her right breast. Worst of all the Super Bowl was broadcast

The white house supports these ideas saying "This legislation will make broadcast television and

The television has responded to the scrutiny that they have been put under, not by rebelling, but
complying with these new rules and censoring themselves. For starters Victoria's Secret cancelled its
annual fashion show, on television, this year. Fox is trying to clean up its act by employing people to
monitor its star reality show, "American Idol", as well as other reality shows. Comcast Corporation
told Congress that it will increase its efforts to assist parents in choosing the right programming for
their children. In an interview with Survivor host Jeff Probst said that the producers were told to
enlarge the digital blur over Richard Hatch, who spent part of his time on the show naked. NBC
planned to show a woman's exposed breasts on ER, but from pressure from their affiliates the scene
was edited. ABC also planed on showing a racy sex scene on their show NYPD Blue, but because
the show was played before 10:00 in Central and Mountain Time the scene was darkened to show
less. Stemming from the Janet Jackson incident many "live" shows were put on a delay. MTV will

Michael Is The Savior Jesus Christ In Revelation12 : 12-12...
Revelation 12:7–9 is a vision seen by John that speaks about the war that will occur in heaven. The
passage says,"Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and
the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in
heaven. The great dragon was hurled down―that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who
leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." The passage
begins by stating that there will be a war in heaven, one between Michael and Satan. Michael is
God's archangel whose name means "one like God". This leads to the possibility that Michael is
Jesus Christ. Jesus has a nature "like God" and can be argued that the word "archangel" might mean
not "ruling angel" but "the ruler of the angels." Add to the fact that the word archangel is never used
in the plural... "(Becker). These facts are strong evidence that Michael is the savior Jesus Christ.
Satan is the dragon that is referred to in the text. The dragon is not specifically described in this
particular passage, but earlier in the chapter there is a glimpse as to what he looked like. According
to Revelation 12:3, "...a great red dragon having seven heads ten horns, and on his head were seven
diadems." The dragon is red to symbolize that it is evil and the horns symbolize its great power.
"The deceitful nature of his seven heads is exaggerated by his seven crowns"(Mueller). These

exemplified by a long slow roll over the Italian countryside as "Lightening" drives to meet his love.
Overall Mister Aronson and his crew do a fantastic job in the visual effects of this movie, making it
enjoyable to watch. The next step after shooting is editing the film; this means that "Video editing is
the process of manipulating and rearranging video shots to create a new work. Editing is usually
considered to be one part of the post production process" (Unknown 2012).The editing job on Red
Tails was handled by Ben Burtt and Michael O'Halloran. The team does an outstanding job of taking
the breathtaking shots of the cinematography team and putting them into chronological sequences
giving the film the look and feel the director intended. This is especially evident in the battle scenes
such as the aforementioned plane versus battleship where the editors cut between the cockpit and

Narcissism in John Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay
Narcissism in John Milton's Paradise Lost
When Eve eats the forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, her decision to tell Adam of her
disobedience turns on two suppositions. If her transgression is kept secret from God, Eve's
augmented knowledge might increase Adam's love for her, and perhaps cause her to be more equal
or even superior to Adam. Even though Eve was created comparable to Adam as his helper, she
refers to Adam as her "Author and Disposer." Furthermore, she says that while God is Adam's law,
Adam is her law. Apparently, Eve chafes under this arrangement, as she wraps up her evaluation of
not telling Adam of her sin with, "for inferior who is free?" However, her death is assured if God
has seen her wrongdoing. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Raphael joins Adam for dinner, Eve serves them naked, affirming her place in God's
hierarchy. However, Eve's nakedness arouses no libidinal desires in God's heavenly representative.
Eve listens in on their conversation while Raphael relates how Satan and his rebellious angels were
defeated, and how God and God's Son created the world. Eve leaves when Adam and Raphael
discuss astronomy, her "reason" not suitable for this subject matter, and she only overhears
Raphael's final warning about Satan. Information is power: Eve's status as Adam's "weaker" is clear.
During the conversation with Raphael, Adam relates his first experiences of passion with Eve, an
emotion mixed with his love. While Raphael praises Adam's capacity to love, he disparages Adam's
ability to control his passion. Adam should love, cherish, and honour Eve, but not subject himself to
her. Moreover, Raphael stresses Adam's need to love God, and the potential conflict between his
love for God and his love for Eve. To love God, is to obey God. For Adam, obeying God means
never to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. While God leaves Adam free to will and in
his own will free, his will though free is mutable. Under the influence of passion – sexual desire for
Eve – Adam could choose to act in ways at variance with his free will and God's will. Sexual
passion engenders pride, affecting Adam's obedience and love for

Imagery, And Internal Conflict In A Long Way Home By Saroo...
Former U.S. National Security Advisor, Colin Powell, once said, "A dream doesn't become reality

Analysis Of John Milton 's ' Paradise Lost '
In his epic, Paradise Lost, Milton entertains the reader with his version of how one of the greatest
falls of humanity occurred. Although many would consider God or Adam and Eve as the main
characters in a story like this, the main character of this epic is truly Satan. Satan is shown as a
strong and powerful character who is completely overwhelmed with emotions which create a type of
hell in his mind; even when he is in heaven, he cannot escape his true life. Satan's desire for
vengeance on God's creation not only unveils the personality of the protagonist but it also offers a
glimpse into what the character Adam is like.
The first quarter of Milton's great epic truly revolves around Satan's emotions and desires. Milton
does his best to help the reader find love for an evil character; he even mentions Satan crying in
hopes of having the reader feel sympathy for him. Satan's emotions are not only triggered by his
feeling of being below God but also his belief of being lower than The Son as well. The huge role
the devil plays throughout the story can be observed in one of the first descriptions of the beast.
Milton compares the size of the sinner to an island by describing that, "The pilot of some small
night–foundered skiff, deeming some island, oft, as seamen tell (Pg 15 lines 204–206)." Not only is
Satan a giant, but he also has a strong personality which can be observed in his actions. After falling
from heaven, Satan even makes a bold statement stating " 'To do aught

A Beautiful Life
A Beautiful Life written by Michael Futcher and Helen Howard in 1998 is a brave piece of
contemporary Australian Theatre, exploring the controversial and much debated issue of
immigration in Australia, while providing a highly symbolic, poignant and emotional experience for
the audience. This play is based on the memories of an Iranian refugee (Hamid), his wife (Jhila) and
their son (Amir) who settled in Australia in the 1980s, focusing on how their cultural background
ultimately leads to their persecution by the Australian Government. As this play is told from their
perspective, the audience is encouraged to empathise with the plight of refugees in Australia.

It is through the use of these theatrical techniques that A Beautiful Life can connect with audiences
and provide them with the idea that the Australian Government is prejudice towards refugees and
therefore empathise with the adversity Hamid and Jhila experience.
Another cultural issue that is the focus of A Beautiful Life is prejudices towards refugees and racism
in Australia. The character of Brendan (one of Hamid's lawyers) embodies the Australian attitude
towards refugees, often making rude, racist and ignorant remarks, "BRENDAN: It's a pity we don't
speak Arab/JHILA: Is Farsi/BRENDAND: Same difference" (Act One, Scene 5). Through
workshops in class I came to realise that the character of Brendan was extremely important in
conveying the prevalence of racism in Australia and also the ignorance many Australians have
towards the struggle of refugees in Australia. Brendan is an extremely important character, as he is
the one who develops most. By the end of the play the audience can see that his attitude towards
Hamid and Jhila has changed completely and uses all his power to try and stop the unfair
persecution by the Australian Government. "It's not a life he takes for granted." (Act Two, Scene
12). Through the use of dialogue the audience can see that Brendan cares for Hamid and Jhila. The
use of this character arc by the

John Milton 's Paradise Lost
A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not hide
the reality that his "eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn"(Paradise Lost, 3.22–23). The light that
Milton refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of
blindness that Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of
blindness in a number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge
plays a vital role in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of
knowledge; the decision to eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eve know that it is
forbidden to them; Adam embarks on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an
attempt to gain more knowledge about the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be
attained by Adam and Eve, which complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the
nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost, the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and
Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the
text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of questions concerning his creation and his duties
towards God, Raphael readily answers. However, when Adam inquiries about the cosmological
universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly reminds Adam that this knowledge "from Man or
Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and not

Racial Formation Of The United States By Michael Omi And...
Racial Formation in the United States by Michael Omi and Howard Winant made me readjust my
understanding of race by definition and consider it as a new phenomenon. Through, Omi and
Winant fulfilled their purpose of providing an account of how concepts of race are created and
transformed, how they become the focus of political conflict, and how they shape and permeate both
identities and institutions. I always considered race to be physical characteristic by the complexion
of ones' skin tone and the physical attributes, such as bone structure, hair texture, and facial form. I
knew race to be a segregating factor, however I never considered the meaning of race as concept or
signification of identity that refers to different types of human bodies, to the perceived corporal and
phenotypic makers of difference and the meanings and social practices that are ascribed to these
differences, in which in turn create the oppressing dominations of racialization, racial profiling, and
racism. (p.111). Again connecting themes from the previous readings, my westernized influences are
in a direct correlation to how to the idea of how I see race and the template it has set for the rather
automatic patterns of inequalities, marginalization, and difference. I never realized how ubiquitous
and evolving race is within the United States. Omi and Winant provided an excellent historical
context of racial formation, from the being the United States' social, cultural, political, and

Michael Omi And Howard Winant : Define And Break Down The...
In the world of sociology, the theory of racialization is a widely known and occasionally frustrating
topic. However, two sociologists have successfully been able to define and break down the essential
information behind this theory. Within their own writing, Michael Omi and Howard Winant (1986)
define racial formation as," the process by which social, economic, and political forces determine
the content and importance of racial categories" (Omi and Winant 16). In essence, this theory frames
the very meaning of "race" itself. The stereotypes of race are rooted deep within the contexts of
history, allowing these concepts to be subject to gradual change over time. In addition to the original
standards of racial formations, there have been other writings that parallel very closely to the ideas
set forth by Omi and Winant. Richard Wright, Pem D. Buck, and Karen Brodkin are three notable
authors that have excellently highlighted the concepts set forth by Omi and Winant. Beginning with
the findings from Buck's Constructing Race, Creating White Privilege, there are multiple, brilliant
examples of racial mixing and establishing "whiteness," both being main points discussed in Omi
and Winant's racialization theory. Buck establishes that ideas about race weren't truly established
until the late 1700s, and how physical differences were seldom ever noticed beforehand. This is
illustrated with stories of different individuals living together with little conflict. Buck uses the

Descriptive Essay About Michaelmas
Michaelmas
Every year, on the colorful fall day of September 29th, Sacramento Waldorf School hosts a festival
where good triumphs and evil parishes. Young girls and boys eagerly dress up as knights, to help
Saint George and Saint Michael conquer and tame the malicious dragon, through good actions and
deeds. Along with fun activities, caramel apples, and motivating spirit, Michaelmas is a special way
to prepare students for the challenging academic year ahead.
Michaelmas is a whole school event, where grades first through twelve are assigned a different role,
to put on a show that has its own unique twist each time. The roles include villagers (played by first
through fourth grade), Knights (played by the fifth grade) the dragon (Played by the sixth grade),
Lords and nobles (played by seventh through eleventh grade) and lastly, Saint George and Saint
Michael (played by twelfth graders). The story told is a classic good vs. evil, preformed inside a
giant circle, created by everyone attending the festival. A town of poor villages are fearful of a
dragon, who is merciless and cruel. One day, the dragon attacks the village, leaving the villagers
desperate and frightened. All the noble knights flee in fear, except for one, Saint George. Saint
George bravely faces the dragon, but instead of using his sword, he kneels and prays to saint
Michael to give him wisdom and strength. Michael appears out of the heavens, and empowers Saint
George, with courage, and kindness. Saint George

Book Of Gabriel Research Paper
Gabriel
Gabriel is an angel who serves as a messenger for God to certain people. He is one of the three
archangels. Gabriel is mentioned in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible. First, in the
Old Testament, Gabriel appears to the prophet Daniel to explain his visions. Gabriel is described as,
"one who looked like man," as he interprets Daniel's visions. He speaks to Daniel while he is
sleeping. After Gabriel's first visit, Daniel becomes tired and sick for days. Gabriel later visits
Daniel again providing him with more insight and understanding in an answered prayer.
In the New Testament, Gabriel, described as "an angel of the Lord," first appears to Zacharias, the
father of John the Baptist. He tells him, "Fear not, Zacharias: ... Show more content on

told Mary she would conceive from The Holy Spirit and the baby will be the Son of God.
After the Annunciation of Mary, Gabriel is not spoken of again.

Obedience: The Odyssey to Freedom Essay
The word freedom is often associated with the idea of an unfettered liberty to select from a range of
alternatives coupled with a sense that our actions will not affect our natural state.
Catholic doctrine teaches that our choice is one of rational deliberation and voluntary subjugation to
a higher force. This is natural law. Milton envisions the same teaching.
Unfortunately, human nature only lends itself to the assumption of certain abstract concepts such as
`natural law', an assumption Milton develops in Paradise Lost. Throughout Paradise Lost, Milton
expands upon the teaching that human actions affect human freedom and that this is a consequence
of the assumption of the natural law that the Creator owns the created. Moreover, the ... Show more

The actors, in choosing contrary to God's will, have been subordinated to what is contrary to God,
the actor has been subordinated to evil. The creature is no longer free but a slave to evil.
According to Christian tradition, God gives freedom to his creations out of love. In return, He
expects obedience, which can only be given to Him through love. Some creatures, irrational
creatures such as plants and animals, live in such obedience simply by existing since, regardless of
the course of their actions, all their choices are in accordance with their Creator. They fulfill God's
will. Since a rational creature has more complex faculties, it is subject to higher expectations;
therefore it is given edicts by which to live. When a rational creature deliberates a course of action,
it is subject to fulfilling God's will. When God's will is fulfilled, creation is in union with God,
however when God's will fails to be fulfilled, this union is broken and the rational being enters into
an unnatural state, a state that contradicts its direction of obedience and love to God.
For a creature to obey there must be some rule to live by, in the story of the creation of Adam God
creates a single rule giving Adam the ability to obey or disobey which in turn gives Adam the ability
to be in union with God or not. Lucifer and his followers are also ordered to obey; they are to love
the Son as they love God. They fail to do so conquered by pride and their lack of love is shown

Michael Omi And Howard Winant's Racial Formation In The...
"Racial Formation within Hegemony and Common Sense in Society"
In the title, " Racial Formation in the United States", author Michael Omi and Howard Winant
argues that the problems of understanding race and how it can be established and seen to be the
answer through the concept of hegemony within the racial cultures. Society needs to understand
racial combination within each race, then understand how the force and the consent plays a major
role within each party or community in the United States of America. Now, in the title, "A More
Perfect Union," author Barack Obama emphasizes that race has diverse stories in which it proves
that we still hold common hopes in understanding society as a whole through common sense in
racism. Barack Obama's speech proves several ideas about race by comprehending how he became
the president and how society interacts around the topic in which Michael Omi and Howard Winant
tends to prove in the article. Omi and Winant' s claims that racial categories serve in the U.S can be
seen as common sense and hegemony concept.
Hegemony shows the concept of how society tends to cultivate or destroy within each race in
society by not understanding hegemony concept. Author, Michael Omi and Howard Winant quotes,
" Racial rule can be understood as a slow and uneven historical process which has moved
dictatorship to democracy, from domination to hegemony. In this transition, hegemonic forms of
racial rule–those based on consent–––eventually came to supplant

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
"Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had
a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King's daughter, I would have gone
nevertheless." (Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan
of Arc was and still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and
by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d'Arc, or
Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England.
Of a poor farmer named Jacques d'Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her
mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she
only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In
a few of her visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the
English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a
marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she
would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman
from an early age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. (Joan of

Starbucks 's Marketing Plan For Starbucks
Introduction and Overview
Founded in 1971 at Pike's Place Market in Seattle, Washington, Starbucks coffee went from a high–
quality, do–it–yourself whole bean retailer to an international 6.4 billion dollar empire. As of 2005,
there were 10,500 stores worldwide where customers could enjoy a cup of the internationally
recognized coffee at a convenient location. Starbucks achieved this through a series of strategic
movements all while offering a great in–store experience and quality coffee.
After CEO Howard Schultz took over the company in 1982, he implemented an idea he derived
from Italian Cafés: Serving freshly–brewed, high–quality coffee in–store. This idea allowed

Starbucks valued simplicity and quality over technical mediocrity; in other words, Howard Schultz
wanted to position Starbucks as a traditional coffee company, aligning with the coffee industries of
Italy, Sumatra, and Ethiopia which are known for producing high–quality coffee. He also recognized
that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great
service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on innovation; "innovation" did not necessarily mean
technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in
packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans.
Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several
successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and Macy's, to help manage the company and make
sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an
excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best.
Therefore, he invested more money in training his employees than marketing the brand.
The core Starbucks values described above take a more concise form in the company's mission
statement (See: Pg. 326, Exhibit 2). Put simply, those values are: 1) Respect for employees 2)
cultural diversity 3) product quality (including where it purchased beans and their preparation
method) 4) creation of loyal customers

Clausewitz Applicability to Non-State Actors Essays
Clausewitz's theories on war are still relevant today with the revisualization of non–state actors on

been fought between competing factions within a single state. Examples of this include Civil Wars

briefly refers to non–state actors or as he called them, "people in arms" in his book On War. He saw
this as a new phenomenon of warfare that steamed from the French Revolution under Napoleon.
Recognizing that Clausewitz was aware of non–state actors, his definition of war can be reviewed in
the context of the time it was written. Clausewitz's definitions of war are suitable to both State and
non–state actors. He defines war as: 1) an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will; 2) a clash
between major interests, which are resolved by bloodshed – that is the only way in which it differs
from other conflicts; and 3) fighting, for fighting is the only principle in the manifold activities
generally designated as war. A Nation State raises a military to deter aggression or to become the
implementing force of aggression against its enemies. Similarly, non–state actors create militias or
guerrilla bands to inflict their will on others. This act is as much a demonstration of political or
military strategy as that of a

Joan of Arc Essay
Joan of Arc In the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City the painting "Joan of Arc" by
Jules Bastien–Lepage hangs in the B. Gerald Cantor Sculpture Gallery. This Piece is rather large and
was done with oil paint on canvas, its dimensions being approximately eight feet tall with a width of
ten feet. When walking toward Bastien–Lapage's painting, it's size and realism grabs one's attention,
and then holds it while this scene of Joan of Arc seems to take place right before one's eyes. The
corridor where the painting is displayed is part of the museums permanent collection. The gallery is
composed of many sculptures with paintings placed between them; almost all of the work is French
and done sometime in the 1800's. This long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
St. Michael is positioned perfectly upright with a majestic look as he is holding a sword away from
his body horizontally with both hands. His body is covered with a golden body suit of armor except
for his head, which is turned toward Joan and has a full halo behind it. Margaret and Catherine are
both wearing white silky and flowing veils on their heads. There are white flowers in their hair, and
both have golden circles over their heads as halos. Their dresses are also flowing and painted with
light pink and blue. Margaret is positioned upright, her hands clasped by her chest, and her head to
the side looking towards Joan, while Catherine is bent over with her head facing down and both
hands over her face.
Bastien–Lepage showed his ability for capturing the naturalistic look of Joan, but he did not use this
ability to its full extent with the saints. The colors used on the saints are not quite as vivid as with
Joan. Michael's golden body armor and silver sword are not really shining at all, and all three halos
seem to be placed there without any real signs of glowing. The shadowing and detail work in their
clothing and skin are also not quite as life like as Joan. All together the three images of these saints
appear to be somewhat hazy.
The rest of the painting is a landscape of Joan's garden with the back wall of her house in the
distance, and in front of the saints is a stool

History of Biblical Angels
History of Biblical Angels Throughout history, you will find many religions discuss angels. But
what is an angel? Is it a mythical creature with wings sent to protect you? Some may think so;
others have different thoughts on the matter. But when did talk of angels first occur? Have they
always been around? In this paper, I will attempt to define what an angel is and what they do. I will
also discuss how angels differ between religions, as well as try to pinpoint the origin of angels. I
will explain the similarities and differences between these religions and their ideas of angels. The
term angel is derived from the Greek word angelos , meaning "messenger." This word represents an
earlier Hebrew word, mal'akh that is also interpreted as the role of messenger or minister. It is safe
to say that many people will regard angels as messengers between Heaven and earth. In many
biblical stories, angels are sending messages. Some messages are announcements of birth like the
ones that were sent to Abraham and to Samson's father. Other messages encourage actions as the
ones did to Elijah and David. In these cases, angels were bringing messages from the divine world,
or Heaven, to men and women in the earthly human world. It is believed that the messages with
angels also work in the reversed sense as well; meaning from human being to angel to God. It is said
that 'the soul speaks to the angel, the angel to the cherub, the cherub to God.' This type of
communication would explain the

Corporate Culture At Starbucks

  • 1. Corporate Culture at Starbucks At its most basic, corporate culture is the personality of an organization or simply how things are done around there. However, in a broader sense it refers to 'the moral, social and behavioral norms of an organization based on the beliefs, attitudes and priorities of its members.' It determines how employees think, act and feel. Every organization has a different concept about the kind of culture that it should have, therefore cultures across organizations may differ despite of having certain common elements1. However common to all organizations is the essential need of fostering a sense of family so that employees do not feel that their work is isolated from other parts of their lives. In fact the culture of an organization should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is amazing to see the way Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks schedules his day. Starting off at 6 a.m., he believes in doing his emails himself and responds to almost 75% of the emails he receives daily. Schultz is known for carrying a black binder with him everywhere he goes, which he uses to write down what people tell him so he can use actual facts when it comes to giving reviews or solving issues. In one day, on average, Schultz leaves a 100 voicemail messages, writes 25 personal thank you notes and signs 500 birthday cards. He believes it is very important for him to connect to his employees and to make them feel connected and close to him. This attitude reduces communication barriers and thus eliminates a lot of problems. Schultz ideally likes to dedicate 20 to 25% of his time to his employees during which visiting stores is his favorite activity since according to him if you really want to know what's wrong with the business you should ask the frontline. Such visits also help him make and maintain a personal connection with all of the frontline employees and show them that the organization actually cares about what happens even at the smallest level. Schultz tries new coffee flavors and listens to his employees complain spending time with them like any normal employee striving to make Starbucks a better place11. The business place is so relaxing that customers tend to stay longer and purchase more coffee and snacks and wants to come back again. 2. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reasons to Turn Someone Down You should write a letter of recommendation only if you can honestly write a supportive letter for someone for a given position. After all, a letter of recommendation is supposed to be a tool for helping people obtain what they are after. If you don't know the candidate well enough to write a good letter, let the person know. He or she will probably ask someone else. If you do know the candidate well but have some reservations, let the person know about your concerns, and leave it up to him or her to decide whether you should still write the letter. PREPARATION Read Some Sample Letters If you have never written a letter of recommendation before, read a stack of reference letters to see what works and what doesn't. Most faculty have access to graduate student applications and the letters submitted. Junior faculty can also ask their more experienced colleagues to share "sample" letters they have written or have received from applicants (blocking out names and other personal information). The resource section of this chapter provides links to sample letters. Collect Information Once you know what a letter of recommendation looks like, make sure you find out as much as possible about the candidate for whom you are writing. One of the worst things you can do is to write a letter that is too generic. Ask for the following information: T i p : When reading a sample

  • 8. Satan's Pity in Paradise Lost "O Hell!" Satan's opening exclamation of frustration immediately alerts readers to Satan's state of mind. As Satan gazes on Adam and Eve, he is struck by their blissful state, which sends him into a spiral of confusion as he slightly reconsiders his plan to destroy them. To himself, Satan addresses the pair; he begins regretful and with pity for Adam and Eve. He later shifts in tone to vengeful, envious, and angry. Further exemplifying Satan's contrasting attitudes, Milton uses antonymous words of emotion throughout the passage. By the end of passage, Milton solidifies Satan's hardening of heart and ends the struggle that has been festering inside Satan since his first act of rebellion against God. Milton successfully uses both the shift in tone and the emotional diction to reveal Satan's stormy internal conflict. Throughout the passage, Milton inserts beautifully emotional words that describe Satan's contrasting feelings: grief and joy, woe and bliss, loathing and delight. The positive feelings that Satan expresses, though describing Adam and Eve's state, reflect the good nature in Satan. That nature is visibly small, as Satan describes himself as joyful or blissful. He merely observes this happiness in Adam and Eve; he even speaks the words with hints of regret. The negative words have a much more powerful effect: Satan uses these words to describe his own feelings and his own domain, Hell. The feelings of grief, woe, and loathing are his, not Adam and Eve's, and thus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Old Testament theology included the belief in angels: the name applied to certain spiritual beings or intelligences of heavenly residence, employed by God as the ministers of His will. HISTORY Are Angels ambassadors sent from God to guide us, protect us or bring messages from heaven? The word angel comes from the Greek word "angelos" which means messenger. The Bible says that God has appointed many angels to those who love God and call to Him, "Psalms 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways." Matthew 1:20–24 Dionysius, a 5th or 6th century writer gives us the hierarchical order of the angels. The first group is the seraphim, cherubim and thrones. The word seraphim (singular is saraph) is taken from the fiery imagery often associated with the Presence of God–– Ezek. 1:27. Cherubim are represented as guardians with many wings. Du Bois In examining the conversations revolving around democratic elections in the past year, it has become increasingly clear that these conversations revolve around the idea of freedom and individualism in a multicultural and a multi–religious society. However, while these discussions maybe expressed in different or new contexts today, it is critical to recognize that these conversations of freedom and individualism have been informed by a wide array of historical figures. The historical figures have also built on tradition in order to generate new arguments about the nature of freedom and individualism in their own contemporary contexts. Consequently, this paper will examine these concepts in The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois, a revolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, Du Bois contends that if individuals recognize oppression and the oppressed are able to use their new platforms to express themselves, then freedom and individualism are actualized in society. In the modern context, Omi and Winant write that, " The necessity to define characters in the briefest and most condensed manner has led to the perpetuation of racial caricatures, as racial stereotypes serve as shorthand for scriptwriters, directors and actors, in commercials, etc... • 11. Howard Zinn 's The United States Howard Zinn 's A People 's History of the United States has been highly influential since its initial publication in 1980. It spawned adaptations for young readers (a two–volume adaptation by Rebecca Stefoff: A Young People 's History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History Channel documentary based on Zinn 's work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic figure to many, especially for this book and for his ongoing teaching and social activism, which were directly related. A People 's History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A 1980 Library Journal review called it "brilliant and moving" and said it was well–designed to appeal to both historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of these critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball 's review in the conservative National Review labeled Zinn a "Professor of contempt" and dismissed the work as the ultimate in "anti–American history," a patchwork of leftist clichés. Oscar Handlin 's review for The American Scholar dismissed both Zinn 's approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn 's claims as fallacious. Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn 's reasoning directly. Bruce Kuklick 's review of the book for The Nation suggested that A People 's History of the United States was essentially a textbook for the left, and as such it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on The Life and Legend of Howard Hughes The Life and Legend of Howard Hughes Throughout the 20th century, it has been the media's job to pinpoint what events and people would prove to be an effective story. This was certainly the case for Howard R. Hughes. Son to the wealthy Howard Hughes Sr., Howard became the interest of the American people and newspapers for most of his life. First of all, I want to say that this film surpassed all my expectations. Sometimes, I am hesitant when it comes to "angel films," but because of who the three stars are (and especially because of the male lead), I was determined to give this film a chance. Furthermore, it is airing on Hallmark, and how could I not watch it? If you are looking for a film that follows the Scriptural teachings of angels, this might not be for you. I could speak to all the reasons why the theology of the movie is unsound, but that is not why I watched this film. The film is so uncommonly well–written and acted with such depth that I could care less about whether the story could ever happen or not. The values of the film are intact, and if nothing else, I applaud Hallmark for emphasizing the concept of "free will" (something most Christians and church people esteem) and including the Lord's Prayer (how often do we see that on network TV?). I did not plan on becoming emotional during this movie, but I literally spent the last twenty minutes or so crying off and on because the story was remarkably poignant (and I wasn't certain how it would end) and the three main actors––Rachel Boston, Paul Greene, and Beau Bridges––are such phenomenal artists! • 14. What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V & VI Milton's scale of nature, while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to "ascend to God" by "steps," (V.512). This creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up and down the scale based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a human can only climb so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a human because it is lacking the spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human, while living, could never attain the same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for some degree of mobility, each sect of the scale is confined within the parameters that God set forth. If the creation was "one first matter all" as Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that all matter came from God. Not only does this reconcile science and religious beliefs because as Newton's First Law says, "Matter can neither be created nor destroyed," but it also asserts that all matter begins as being inherently good. This explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science says there can be no absolute nothing. Milton's attempts to resolve the religion versus science issues are made stronger by his references to Galileo and astronomy. But Milton's version of the creation tackles the problem of absolute nothingness. If there were absolute nothingness before matter, then that nothingness would have had to ... • 16. Michael Is The Savior Jesus Christ In Revelation12 : 12-12... Revelation 12:7–9 is a vision seen by John that speaks about the war that will occur in heaven. The passage says,"Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down―that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." The passage begins by stating that there will be a war in heaven, one between Michael and Satan. Michael is God's archangel whose name means "one like God". This leads to the possibility that Michael is Jesus Christ. Jesus has a nature "like God" and can be argued that the word "archangel" might mean not "ruling angel" but "the ruler of the angels." Add to the fact that the word archangel is never used in the plural... "(Becker). These facts are strong evidence that Michael is the savior Jesus Christ. Satan is the dragon that is referred to in the text. The dragon is not specifically described in this particular passage, but earlier in the chapter there is a glimpse as to what he looked like. According to Revelation 12:3, "...a great red dragon having seven heads ten horns, and on his head were seven diadems." Narcissism in John Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay Narcissism in John Milton's Paradise Lost When Eve eats the forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, her decision to tell Adam of her disobedience turns on two suppositions. If her transgression is kept secret from God, Eve's augmented knowledge might increase Adam's love for her, and perhaps cause her to be more equal or even superior to Adam. Even though Eve was created comparable to Adam as his helper, she refers to Adam as her "Author and Disposer." Furthermore, she says that while God is Adam's law, Adam is her law. Eve leaves when Adam and Raphael discuss astronomy, her "reason" not suitable for this subject matter, and she only overhears Raphael's final warning about Satan. Information is power: Eve's status as Adam's "weaker" is clear. During the conversation with Raphael, Adam relates his first experiences of passion with Eve, an emotion mixed with his love. While Raphael praises Adam's capacity to love, he disparages Adam's ability to control his passion. Adam should love, cherish, and honour Eve, but not subject himself to her. Moreover, Raphael stresses Adam's need to love God, and the potential conflict between his love for God and his love for Eve. To love God, is to obey God. For Adam, obeying God means never to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. While God leaves Adam free to will and in his own will free, his will though free is mutable. In a book called A Long Way Home, written by Saroo Brierley, imagery and internal conflict are used to portray how one's perseverance contributes to the accomplishment of their goal and success of their future. The author uses imagery to reveal Saroo's long journey of searching for his home and how he refuses to give up. Saroo uses a situation with his girlfriend, Lisa, to show how determined he is when he says "I went out with Lisa sometimes, of course, but the moment we got home I was back on the computer. • 20. Analysis Of John Milton 's ' Paradise Lost ' In his epic, Paradise Lost, Milton entertains the reader with his version of how one of the greatest falls of humanity occurred. Although many would consider God or Adam and Eve as the main characters in a story like this, the main character of this epic is truly Satan. Satan is shown as a strong and powerful character who is completely overwhelmed with emotions which create a type of hell in his mind; even when he is in heaven, he cannot escape his true life. Satan's desire for vengeance on God's creation not only unveils the personality of the protagonist but it also offers a glimpse into what the character Adam is like. The first quarter of Milton's great epic truly revolves around Satan's emotions and desires. Milton does his best to help the reader find love for an evil character; he even mentions Satan crying in hopes of having the reader feel sympathy for him. Satan's emotions are not only triggered by his feeling of being below God but also his belief of being lower than The Son as well. The huge role the devil plays throughout the story can be observed in one of the first descriptions of the beast. Milton compares the size of the sinner to an island by describing that, "The pilot of some small night–foundered skiff, deeming some island, oft, as seamen tell (Pg 15 lines 204–206)." • 22. John Milton 's Paradise Lost A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not hide the reality that his "eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn"(Paradise Lost, 3.22–23). The light that Milton refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of blindness that Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of blindness in a number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge plays a vital role in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of knowledge; the decision to eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eve know that it is forbidden to them; Adam embarks on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an attempt to gain more knowledge about the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be attained by Adam and Eve, which complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost, the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of questions concerning his creation and his duties towards God, Raphael readily answers. However, when Adam inquiries about the cosmological universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly reminds Adam that this knowledge "from Man or Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and not ... Racial Formation in the United States by Michael Omi and Howard Winant made me readjust my understanding of race by definition and consider it as a new phenomenon. Through, Omi and Winant fulfilled their purpose of providing an account of how concepts of race are created and transformed, how they become the focus of political conflict, and how they shape and permeate both identities and institutions. I always considered race to be physical characteristic by the complexion of ones' skin tone and the physical attributes, such as bone structure, hair texture, and facial form. I knew race to be a segregating factor, however I never considered the meaning of race as concept or signification of identity that refers to different types of human bodies, to the perceived corporal and phenotypic makers of difference and the meanings and social practices that are ascribed to these differences, in which in turn create the oppressing dominations of racialization, racial profiling, and racism. • 25. Michael Omi And Howard Winant : Define And Break Down The... In the world of sociology, the theory of racialization is a widely known and occasionally frustrating topic. However, two sociologists have successfully been able to define and break down the essential information behind this theory. Within their own writing, Michael Omi and Howard Winant (1986) define racial formation as," the process by which social, economic, and political forces determine the content and importance of racial categories" (Omi and Winant 16). In essence, this theory frames the very meaning of "race" itself. The stereotypes of race are rooted deep within the contexts of history, allowing these concepts to be subject to gradual change over time. In addition to the original standards of racial formations, there have been other writings that parallel very closely to the ideas set forth by Omi and Winant. Richard Wright, Pem D. Buck, and Karen Brodkin are three notable authors that have excellently highlighted the concepts set forth by Omi and Winant. Beginning with the findings from Buck's Constructing Race, Creating White Privilege, there are multiple, brilliant examples of racial mixing and establishing "whiteness," both being main points discussed in Omi and Winant's racialization theory. Buck establishes that ideas about race weren't truly established until the late 1700s, and how physical differences were seldom ever noticed beforehand. Unfortunately, human nature only lends itself to the assumption of certain abstract concepts such as `natural law', an assumption Milton develops in Paradise Lost. The creature is no longer free but a slave to evil. According to Christian tradition, God gives freedom to his creations out of love. In return, He expects obedience, which can only be given to Him through love. Some creatures, irrational creatures such as plants and animals, live in such obedience simply by existing since, regardless of the course of their actions, all their choices are in accordance with their Creator. They fulfill God's will. Since a rational creature has more complex faculties, it is subject to higher expectations; therefore it is given edicts by which to live. When a rational creature deliberates a course of action, it is subject to fulfilling God's will. When God's will is fulfilled, creation is in union with God, however when God's will fails to be fulfilled, this union is broken and the rational being enters into an unnatural state, a state that contradicts its direction of obedience and love to God. For a creature to obey there must be some rule to live by, in the story of the creation of Adam God creates a single rule giving Adam the ability to obey or disobey which in turn gives Adam the ability to be in union with God or not. Now, in the title, "A More Perfect Union," author Barack Obama emphasizes that race has diverse stories in which it proves that we still hold common hopes in understanding society as a whole through common sense in racism. Barack Obama's speech proves several ideas about race by comprehending how he became the president and how society interacts around the topic in which Michael Omi and Howard Winant tends to prove in the article. Omi and Winant' s claims that racial categories serve in the U.S can be seen as common sense and hegemony concept. Hegemony shows the concept of how society tends to cultivate or destroy within each race in society by not understanding hegemony concept. Author, Michael Omi and Howard Winant quotes, " Racial rule can be understood as a slow and uneven historical process which has moved dictatorship to democracy, from domination to hegemony. In this transition, hegemonic forms of racial rule–those based on consent–––eventually came to supplant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since God commanded it, even if I had a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King's daughter, I would have gone nevertheless." (Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan of Arc was and still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d'Arc, or Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England. Of a poor farmer named Jacques d'Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In a few of her visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman from an early age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. • 39. Starbucks 's Marketing Plan For Starbucks Introduction and Overview Founded in 1971 at Pike's Place Market in Seattle, Washington, Starbucks coffee went from a high– quality, do–it–yourself whole bean retailer to an international 6.4 billion dollar empire. As of 2005, there were 10,500 stores worldwide where customers could enjoy a cup of the internationally recognized coffee at a convenient location. Starbucks achieved this through a series of strategic movements all while offering a great in–store experience and quality coffee. After CEO Howard Schultz took over the company in 1982, he implemented an idea he derived from Italian Cafés: Serving freshly–brewed, high–quality coffee in–store. This idea allowed customers to stay and enjoy the coffeehouse experience, which was a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starbucks valued simplicity and quality over technical mediocrity; in other words, Howard Schultz wanted to position Starbucks as a traditional coffee company, aligning with the coffee industries of Italy, Sumatra, and Ethiopia which are known for producing high–quality coffee. He also recognized that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on innovation; "innovation" did not necessarily mean technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans. Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and Macy's, to help manage the company and make sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best. Therefore, he invested more money in training his employees than marketing the brand. The core Starbucks values described above take a more concise form in the company's mission statement (See: Pg. 326, Exhibit 2). Put simply, those values are: 1) Respect for employees 2) cultural diversity 3) product quality (including where it purchased beans and their preparation method) 4) creation of loyal customers ... • 40. Clausewitz Applicability to Non-State Actors Essays Clausewitz's theories on war are still relevant today with the revisualization of non–state actors on the world scene. The purpose of this essay is to expand on the applicability of these theories in today's modern warfare where non–state actors play a larger, more global role. The study of theory, especially translated theory, requires an open mind to determine its applicability to various and ever–changing situations. In the case of Clausewitz, many strategists do not view his theories as relevant to today's wars involving a Nation State vs. non–state actors. This is not true. The U.S. Army Command and General Staff College teaches that the commander's intent is the most important part of proper execution. Strategists need to look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... War is often thought of as involving one state against another but most wars throughout time have been fought between competing factions within a single state. Examples of this include Civil Wars or Wars of Revolution within a Nation State where a group organizes itself, forms a military or insurgent force and attempts to overthrow or separate from the primary Nation State. Clausewitz briefly refers to non–state actors or as he called them, "people in arms" in his book On War. He saw this as a new phenomenon of warfare that steamed from the French Revolution under Napoleon. Recognizing that Clausewitz was aware of non–state actors, his definition of war can be reviewed in the context of the time it was written. Clausewitz's definitions of war are suitable to both State and non–state actors. He defines war as: 1) an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will; 2) a clash between major interests, which are resolved by bloodshed – that is the only way in which it differs from other conflicts; and 3) fighting, for fighting is the only principle in the manifold activities generally designated as war. A Nation State raises a military to deter aggression or to become the implementing force of aggression against its enemies. Similarly, non–state actors create militias or guerrilla bands to inflict their will on others. This act is as much a demonstration of political or military strategy as that of a ... His body is covered with a golden body suit of armor except for his head, which is turned toward Joan and has a full halo behind it. Margaret and Catherine are both wearing white silky and flowing veils on their heads. There are white flowers in their hair, and both have golden circles over their heads as halos. Their dresses are also flowing and painted with light pink and blue. Margaret is positioned upright, her hands clasped by her chest, and her head to the side looking towards Joan, while Catherine is bent over with her head facing down and both hands over her face. Bastien–Lepage showed his ability for capturing the naturalistic look of Joan, but he did not use this ability to its full extent with the saints. The colors used on the saints are not quite as vivid as with Joan. Michael's golden body armor and silver sword are not really shining at all, and all three halos seem to be placed there without any real signs of glowing. The shadowing and detail work in their clothing and skin are also not quite as life like as Joan. All together the three images of these saints appear to be somewhat hazy. • 42. History of Biblical Angels History of Biblical Angels Throughout history, you will find many religions discuss angels. But what is an angel? Is it a mythical creature with wings sent to protect you? Some may think so; others have different thoughts on the matter. But when did talk of angels first occur? Have they always been around? In this paper, I will attempt to define what an angel is and what they do. I will also discuss how angels differ between religions, as well as try to pinpoint the origin of angels. I will explain the similarities and differences between these religions and their ideas of angels. The term angel is derived from the Greek word angelos , meaning "messenger." This word represents an earlier Hebrew word, mal'akh that is also interpreted as the role of messenger or minister. It is safe to say that many people will regard angels as messengers between Heaven and earth. In many biblical stories, angels are sending messages. Some messages are announcements of birth like the ones that were sent to Abraham and to Samson's father. Other messages encourage actions as the ones did to Elijah and David. In these cases, angels were bringing messages from the divine world, or Heaven, to men and women in the earthly human world. It is believed that the messages with angels also work in the reversed sense as well; meaning from human being to angel to God. It is said that 'the soul speaks to the angel, the angel to the cherub, the cherub to God.' This type of communication would explain the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
