Coordinating conjunctions are used to connect words, phrases, or independent clauses that have the same grammatical function. The main coordinating conjunctions are and, but, or, nor. When connecting two subjects, verbs must agree with the subject closest to the verb. Coordinating conjunctions can also be used to connect two independent clauses, usually preceded by a comma.
