Part 1 Introduction
This assignment combines the chemistry of an aqueous
solution of copper(II) nitrate and concentration analysis by
spectrophotometry with the statistical method of linear
regression using a spread sheet on the computer.
Introduction - Copper(II) Nitrate Solution
Copper(II) nitrate dissolves in water to form a blue solution.
The absorbance of the blue color is proportional to the
concentration.
Introduction - Spectrophotometry
For this assignment, spectrophotometry is a chemical analysis
method used to determine the concentration of copper(II)
nitrate in solution by measuring the absorbance of the
solution.
Introduction - Linear Regression
Linear regression is an analysis method that provides an
equation in which a variable y is determined as a function of
x. The form of the equation is:
y = a + b * x
x and y are variables. a and b are parameters.
