Conventions of TV listings
articles
Introduction
• Here we have produced a piece which is listing and
describing the conventions of TV listings magazine
articles. We have labelled an existing TV article to
address the knowledge we currently have.
Title - This is typically placed at the top of
most articles. This usually informs viewers off
a brief idea so that they know what the
article is about. Here as you can see the title
has been played around with and used to
capture the attention of the reader to show
that the article is about famous Roald Dahls
daughter.
Drop capital – This
establishes the start of
the article and is a way of
recognising magazine
articles because of its
common use. The colour
of the drop cap makes
the page look attractive
and appealing as it
matches with the lime
green at the top of the
page.
Minor images – The
images are used to
inform the reader a
bit of background of
the writers daughter
and also it can be
used to give an insight
to the TV program
which would be
airing.

Main image – Purpose of the main image is to
grab the readers attention so that they are
aware of who features in the article. Here an
image of the food and the celebrity herself is
shown A reason for this is to make a bold
statement to the readers so that they know
what the article is about and also the program.

Layout – In terms of
layout the write has gone
for a three column
layout, meaning that
another convention of
articles has been
followed. This is a typical
layout used in articles to
make it easier for the
readers to take in.

By line – The use of this
credits the photographer for
capturing the photos used in
the article. It is usually the
smallest text on the page
and it is a way of promoting
and recognising the
photographers work. In this
case it is on the right hand
side in small print making it
less noticeable.

Page number – Another
Pull quote – Often used to insert words spoken about the celebrity typical convention used to
make it easier for the
featuring in the article. It makes it a good way of catching the
readers attention because the public are genuinely interested on reader to navigate though
what the views of celebrities are and usually try to follow celebrity out the magazine. They can
use the contents page to
advice. Pull quotes h=give a high authority personalised feel to
find the specific articles and
show that the celebrity has input their view into the article.
