Compare and Contrast the Biological Processes Underlying Innate and Adaptive Immunity
In the biology Immunology field, immunity is defined as the balanced state of a living organism for
instance, the human body having sufficient biological defenses to combat infection, illness, or
other unwanted biological incursion, while having acceptable tolerance to avoid contamination and
allergies (Sompayrac, 2012, p.5). The immune system is a group of cells, nerves, and molecules that
defend the body from many pathogenic microorganisms and contaminants in the environment. ...

For instance, the adaptive immune classification is organized around a binary class of cells,
namely the T and B cells, whereas the cells of the innate immune classification are considerably
more in number, comprising natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and macrophages (Pulendran,
Katsikis, amp; Schoenberger, 2011, p. 12).
Further differences can be seen from the immune system receptors. The receptors of innate
classification cells are completely germline encoded, in other words, their structure is controlled by
the genome of the cell and has a permanent genetically determined specificity. On the other hand,
adaptive immune classification cells have semantically engendered variable region receptors such
as the TCR and BCR, which are T, and B cell receptors with variable specificities, fashioned by a
complex procedure of gene segment reorganization within the cell (Pulendran, Katsikis,
amp;Schoenberger, 2011, p. 13).
Additionally, another difference is on a population level. Various studies such as the conceptual
framework for innate immunity highlight that innate immune classification cells have a non clonal
distribution of receptors, suggesting that all cells of an identical sort and have receptors with
matching specificities. However, receptors on adaptive immune classification cells are dispersed
clonally in a pattern that are suppurations of a specific clone

Seeking a Just Judiciary
In recent years, many people in the United States have acquired an oddly tilted concept of how the
judicial branch of government should function. Modern consensus postulates that the Supreme
Court is the final arbiter of the Constitution, and that its judgments cannot be challenged or changed
except through its own decision (Vieira). Curiously, however, this idea of giving the power of final
constitutional interpretation to the judiciary known in law as judicial supremacy finds no basis in
the text of the Constitution itself or in historical opinion. This doctrine is a modern construction,
and it poses an unhappily real threat to individual liberties in America. The people of our nation
deserve a judiciary that is just in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While one may contend that there were relatively few judicial power grabs during the lifetimes of
these two presidents, there is a disturbing new legal model that extends the power of the Supreme
Court far beyond its traditional authority of constitutional arbitration. In 1965, a landmark case
known as Griswold v. Connecticut came before the Supreme Court. The ruling was, as usual, long
and technical, but the legal precedent upon which the Court based its holding had many lawyers
scratching their heads and reaching for their dictionaries. The Court confidently stated that their
holding was based upon the right to privacy , which the justices had managed to locate in a
penumbra, formed by emanations from [the Bill of Rights] (Griswold). The word penumbra, which
is used four times in this particular ruling, is not often heard in the field of law, and for good
reason. Of all things, it is a Latin astronomical term that roughly translates to secondary shadow .
Essentially, the 1965 Court was calling the enumerated rights the umbra, or primary shadow, while
claiming that there was a separate set of unenumerated rights found in the penumbra (Griswold v.
Connecticut). This idea of a constitutional penumbra, which was never suggested before the ruling
in Griswold, allows the Supreme Court to invent entirely new rights and constitutional statutes, an
ability that extends its powers into

The City s Statute Violate The Equal Protection Clauses
The City s statute provides,
No person over the age 10 shall use a public restroom assigned to the opposite sex of that which is
listed on the person s birth certificate. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor, punishable by law
.
The plaintiff s contention is that the city s statute violates the equal protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment. Since the classification at issue involves gender of the users of the public restrooms, it
falls within the quasi suspect categories. Therefore, this city must meet the intermediate scrutiny
standard.
This city statute requires the citizens at the age of 10 or older to use the public restroom designated
for their gender as listed on their birth certificates. When the government enacts a law ... Show more

Where a gender neutral alternative is available, the gender discriminatory classification is not said
to be the least intrusive means that the government can use, and therefore, the classification put
forward by the government is not necessary . However, the government would be required to show
that the means they use is necessary and narrowly tailored to advance its objectives only under
strict scrutiny. Where the classification is not invidious, not selecting the least discriminatory
means would not necessarily render the statute violative of equal protection. Rostker v. Goldberg,
453 U.S. 57, 101 S. Ct. 2646 (1981). As established supra, it is the intermediate scrutiny standard
that applies to the present issue, and the City only needs to prove that its objective is important and
the statutory classification is substantially related to that objective. It is not necessary for the City
to pursue the least discriminatory means to pass the judicial review. The City will withstand

Reggae Music s Influence On American Culture
Reggae Music
Music itself is often times a strong indicator of a society s culture, history, and beliefs. Sometimes
however, when another group listens to one society s music they also make connections to lyrics,
sounds, and melodies that were put into the song. This is very much the case with Reggae music as
not only did it take off in Jamaica, its country of origin, but the United States and parts of Europe
as well. Jamaicans viewed music as a way to pass down traditions and as a way to pass through
difficult times. Reggae music often times discusses the suffering of the Jamaican people in its
lyrics. Reggae developed from preceding styles of music like Ska and Rocksteady and the name
appears to translate differently depending on which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is in the style of Reggae music, but doesn t sound to the listener to be from any specific event
or place. It s general enough to appeal to a wide range of audiences. Many of the songs with an
upbeat and easy going feel to them put people into a relaxed state. As stated before other groups
began to be incorporated in the music and to make it their own. Over time this changes and
influences music. It can stretch the limits of the music to include people outside of its original
culture and intended audience. This is how people who have no connection to the history of
Reggae can come to enjoy and embrace the sound of the Jamaican

American Values And American Values
American values are seen in different ways by different people and cultures. Some people view
American values as religion, culture, and customs. There are some American values that have
changed to make things better and there are some that will never change no matter the situation. A
value that has changed is freedom and the right of equality. There are two documents that can
support this statement and one of them is known as Common Sense which was written by Thomas
Paine. Thomas Paine was a pro American writer and author of some of the most persuasive
documents of the American Revolution. One document that he was famous for was Common Sense.
This document argued for American independence from Great Britain and for a republican form of
government as superior to hereditary monarchy. This was one very persuasive document that was
written and had an extraordinary impact on colonies. ( Thomas Paine. , edited by Paul Lauter, The
Heath Anthology of American Literature, 2006, PP 1046.).
If Thomas Paine did not publish that document we would not have been introduced to The
Declaration of Independence which is the second document that backs the argument. The
Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson who was not just the author of the
clause, but he was also the third president of the United States serving from 1801 to 1809. He was
also a philosopher, farmer and landowner during his era. Before The Declaration of Independence

Fatalism In The Lady Finger
Joint family and close association between family members is the greatest characteristics of the
Pakistani society. Sdiqa s house was a big house. Many relatives visited this house and stayed
there. Particularly in case of some ceremony or distress, many relatives came to share such
occasions. Sadiqa s friendship with Imran came out an account of his characteristic. Thus the story,
The Lady Finger presents a true picture of our society in a very convincing manner.
The story, The Lady Finger, has the characteristics of both fatalism and feminism. But the fatalism
has been dealt with loudly. In other words, the story opens with romantic of an adopted girl and
proceeds along the growth of the girl. The story writer develops the story the story taking the norms
of society into account. Certainly, human beings around girl, though unconsciously, are taking the
girl. However, the greater cause of the girl s troubles is not human beings. It is her fate.
Feminism or the subject treating the troubles of women has been covered from various angels. For
example, in Pakistan, girls are married before they reach maturity. Such early marriage does not

an individual woman; still it is an account of the dilemma of women in Pakistan. In other words
the subject of the story is feminism. The story deals with the subject at true levels. First, it brings
miseries of women to light. Second, it suggests remedies of these miseries as

The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism is a forum for author David Harvey to voice his
concerns on the contemporary global capitalist model. As a Marxist geographer and
anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism through a lens of skepticism that results in
a scathing renunciation of the capitalist goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction.
Harvey argues that in a world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the
capitalist process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and boom
(40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the vast majority of the
population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the power of capital and unable to pull
themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the extent of the problem we face in the wake of the
Great Recession. The economy continues to grow modestly, while median household income
shrinks (Noss 2). The capitalists are reloading once again at the expense of Main Street. As
Harvey points out, there is a great need to reevaluate of our views of modern capitalism. The
Enigma of Capital is just a starting point.
Harvey begins his analysis of capitalism with a

The Paris Climate Conference ( European Commission )
The Paris climate conference was held in December and 195 countries participated in an
agreement pertaining to climate change. This agreement is global and is expected to be put into
plan in 2020. The main goal of this conference was to develop a plan to have countries participate
in trying to bring global warmingdown to 2В°C (European Commission, 2016). Like every other
agreement that has had an impact on the world s decisions there is both supporters and critics
which results in the pros and cons of the development of the plan. There are justifiably arguments
on each side and there is no right answer until the plan goes into full effect in 2020. Therefore, the
issue of climatechange is not going anywhere anytime soon. The deal is said to be a major win for
the global community and is the first ever truly global climate deal (European Commission, 2016).
One very positive outcome of the Paris agreement is that all countries pledged to limit temperature
increase to 1.5 degrees. This is one step closer to fixing this serious environmental problem.
Considering, since 1880 the temperature of earth has risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, the arctic ice
minimum decreased 13.4 percent per decade. (NASA, 2016) Another positive outcome from the
agreement is that 185 countries have written up a plan to reduce their emissions, a gas that traps
heat in the atmosphere also known as greenhouse gases. Some countries like the United States and
the nations of the European Union promised to

A Look at Desegregation as a Part of a Larger Phenomenon...
The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s
acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. America has, since the coining of
the term, proven that it was an artificial label with little resemblance to the truth. Throughout
history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights
for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Perhaps none have suffered more than the African Americans at the
hand of Anglo Saxon Americans. In his South Carolina Schools and Colleges Desegregation
manuscript William E. Rone details the hard fought court cases against educational segregation in
South Carolina during the 50s and 60s as well as events which related to those cases. The cases
depict a story of intolerance, disregard for the law with respect to desegregation, and outright harm
to non white Americans. Knowing America s past and present one could say that America is more
akin to an un tossed salad than a melting pot. All the pieces coexisting together, yet perpetually
divided by racial and cultural barriers as well as anger and fear of the unfamiliar. America, and the
South especially, provided substandard segregated schooling and amenities for African Americans
which perpetuated the culture gap and only widened the separation of races in America during the
mid 1900s. One such example of the disparity between white and black schools was busing in
Clarendon County South Carolina. Often

Caribbean Sea in the north, by Venezuela and Brazil in the east, by Peru and Ecuador in the south,
and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Colombia is the only South American country with coastlines on
both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea (National Geographic.) Colombiais one of the largest
South American countries at 439,733 square miles, or about the size of Texas and California
combined. Colombia is a mainly Spanish speaking, Catholic country, but has a diverse population.
Colombia is the only American nation named for Christopher Columbus. The country strongly
reflects its history as a colony of Spain. Colombia became independent on July 20, 1810 (Kline.) It
is often referred to as the most Roman Catholic of the South American countries, and most of its
people are proud of the relative purity of their Spanish language. Its population is heavily mestizo
(of mixed European and Indian descent) with minorities of European and African ancestry. The
economy is traditionally based on agriculture, particularly coffee and fruit production, but industries
and services are increasing in importance. Colombia is the most populous country of South
America. The nation s political instability has been tied to unequal distribution of wealth and the
illicit trade in drugs, specifically cocaine.

Deforestation In Hispaniola
Studies show that tropical forests absorb almost two billion tons of carbon each year, equivalent
to 1/5th of the world s carbon emissions, by storing it in their bark, leaves and soil. However, an
equivalent amount is lost through logging, clearing of land for grazing, and growing biofuel crops
such as palm oil, soya bean and sugar. Peat fires in forests add significantly to the greenhouse gas
emissions. (Greenhouse, 2014) For decades, millions of hectares of foresthave been cleared with
various motives in mind. Two countries that have suffered greatly are Haiti, located on the island of
Hispaniola in the Caribbean, and Indonesia, an archipelago island country in Southeast Asia. This

even political crises. Haiti is catastrophically deforested, topsoil has been eroded, and there are
zones of galloping desertification. Beginning in about 1954, concessionaires stepped up their
logging operations, in response to Port au Prince s intensified demand for charcoal, thus
accelerating deforestation, which had already become a problem because of environmentally
unsound agricultural practices, rapid population growth, and increased competition over scarce
land. (Williams,

Stutter Movie Analysis
The short film Stutterer written and directed by Benjamin Clearly depicts the ways which one s
physical handicap causes social isolation and low self esteem. Set in London, the thirteen minute
film features a young typographer named Greenwood who stutters when he talks. Greenwood s
speech impediment keeps him totally detached from society to a point where he can t build
relationships .His sole form of connection with the outside world is a six month old online
relationship with a woman named Ellie who Greenwoodcherishes a lot. At risk to lose the biggest
relationship in his life yet, Stutterer unveils how Greenwood disregards his handicap and comes
out of his social closet to meet his soulmate. Greenwood s struggles are primarily illustrated in
the opening scene of the movie. The camera shot focusses on the character s sweaty and
trembling face as he tries to speak to a service representative over the phone. He stutters, and
before he hardly gets a couple words out; the impatient representative hangs up on him. However,
in his thoughts that viewers are able to hear throughout the whole movie, he doesn t stutter. He is
fluently saying I am calling about my phone bill . This incident with the phone representative is
one of the many deceptions Greenwood encounters in his daily life, and an explanation for his
introverted ways. His introverted ways are shown in the scene when he is smoking cigarettes
outside. Greenwood acts death to avoid a stranger s question. His

Existentialism In The Stranger
The novel, The Stranger, written by French author Albert Camus, is a philosophical fiction piece
published in 1942. This book used both Existentialism and Absurdism to promote Meursault s
problem throughout the book. Both of these are related to Modernism, which was the aftermath of
the industrial revolution. Modernism is a philosophical movement that along with cultural trends
and changes arose wide scale and far reaching transformations in western society during the late
19th and early 20th century (Koofers 1). Modernism was branched into different styles of art but
they all had something in common, a rejection of history and applied ornament; a preference for
abstraction; and a belief that design and technology could transform... Show more content on

At the funeral, he was indifferent to the situation, he didn t really mourn for his mother. Another
example, was when Meursault helped Raymond write a letter because he didn t have anything
else to do. Another one was when Meursault just stood there and watched Raymond beat up his
girlfriend, without saying anything and refused to call the cops just because he didn t he didn t
like them. A final example from the first part of the book was before Meursault hit the turning
point, he refused a job offer in Paris because he thought life would still be the same even if he
was in a different area. These brief examples show that Meursault is ignoring the social critique.
All of his actions are related to Clairvoyance, a surrealist art by RenГ© Magritte. In the painting,
RenГ© Magritte predicted the future of the egg onto a canvas and in The Stranger, Meursault s
actions lead us to predict that things weren t going to go great for him within the end of the first
part. Unlike the Existentialist model, the Aristotle model suggests the opposite by portraying a
character who fits the role of a tragic hero and faces a tragic flaw. A tragic hero is a character that
eventually makes the wrong judgment at the climax of the book that leads the character to his/her
own destruction. An Aristotelian model is different from an Existentialist model because the
character goes through a fall in their social status. An example of

The Sick Rose By William Blake Meaning
The Multiple Meanings of The Sick Rose and The Eagle
After studying the two poems, The Sick Rose and The Eagle in class and the discussion among
the group, it seems to me that the poems haven t got only one single meaning. I also noticed that
poems could always be interpreted in different ways with different meanings based on your point
of view and your personal knowledge and experience. Poems are also open to interpretations.
The Sick Rose is a very decent example of which the poems can be interpreted in different ways.
The word rose first came into sight in the title, which indicates this word play a chief part in the
interpretation of the poem. Rose can be a person, as this is a very widespread name for girls in ...

William
Blake was a poet, writer and also a painter. Just like most of the other writers, he had his own
style when creating a piece. He particularly specified in religion, and his ideas of religion, or in
other words, the operation of the church contradicted with most of the people at his time, especially
the ones with power and money. William
Blake was neither rich nor powerful, and he didn t risk his life to express his discontent. He
conveyed his feelings in the poem, let alone be aware of his minds and thoughts.
Granted that this concept is right, then rose signifies the church, which was being tarnished by
the priests , which was indicated by invisible worm in the poem. They lived a luxurious life
using the donations and they wore expensive red priests robes, which was represented by the
phrase crimson joy . There is an idiom Do not judge a book by its cover , and that is exactly what
the poet was trying to tell us most of the things do not look as they appear to be. If the poet hadn t
experienced the injustice and unfairness of the church, he might not have written this poem.
Actually we will never experience the treatment of the church at the time when the poem was
written, but knowing the poet s background is a good way to have accurate interpretations. Hence,
self experience is a very important factor leading to varied

The Cheer Of The Football Cheer Squad
Throughout the years, I have participated in many activities during high school. I have
participated in Norwalk Cheer all four years in various sports: competition, wrestling, boys
basketball, and football. My senior year I was honored to receive the opportunity to be the cheer
captain of the football cheer squad. Another activity I participated in was Student Council. I was
elected treasurer my junior and senior year. This meant that I was in charge of budgeting for
dances. Considering I was in charge of the money, I often was the one decorating for dances as
well. We also run the food can drive and Little Kids Christmas. Little Kids Christmas is about
giving gifts to children who are less fortunate in the Norwalk community. This includes anything
from low income to a parent in the military overseas. We also fundraise for the Norwalk
leadership scholarship through activities like the Lakewood Lock In, where Lakewood students
pay a small fee for a night of fun activities. My friend Joe and I were once upset that students at
Norwalk only do community service because it is required to graduate. To try to solve the
problem, we have started a community service club called Student Union. I am Vice President
and once again in charge of funding. This year we were more focused on fundraising so students
in later years can use the money to do large scale community projects. Through my idea of a pop

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was founded in
2000 when it merged with the Gates Learning Foundation. This came after Bill and Melinda read
an article about children in third world countries dying from diseases no longer an issue in the
United States. They read this article in 1997. The Gates Foundation operates off of endowments and
donations, but does not solicit for donations. An endowment is a collection or fund of money that is
donated to a non profit organization such as The Gates Foundation to support it over a period of
time to ensure achievement of their mission. Currently, the total endowment for The Gates
Foundation is $42.9 billion. Warren Buffet is a very large supporter via endowment to the Gates

The Gates Foundation is made up of four different foundation efforts. They are Global

Compulsive gamblers should first be aware of their problems that they are unable to restrain
themselves from gaming and second, they want help. Willingness is the foundation and premise of
the self exclusion program. And then, they are required to provide information for state gaming
commission. The gaming commission will send those profiles to all casinos within their
jurisdiction. Once a gambler enrolls in the program, he has at least two obligations. First, to refrain
from entering gaming facilities. Second, to release the state and the casinos from any liabilities .
As to casinos, they also have obligations that they must not knowingly provide gaming activities to
self excluded gamblers and ensure that self excluded gamblers do not receive direct marketing
materials. However, no state imposes an obligation on casinos to prohibit compulsive gamblers
from entering their properties. Rather, most states prohibit the casinos from knowingly allowing
compulsive gamblers to enter their facilities .
In states like Nevada, it s hard for them to implement a self exclusion program to hundreds of
casinos and numerous gamblers. The Nevada gaming commission requires casinos to implement
internal procedures to help compulsive gamblers to self limit. Most of casinos in Las Vegas Strip
put compulsive gaming pamphlets on the side of ATMs in their properties. And they have other
independent measures. For

not to say anything to anybody and guarantees it was just a one time thing, and it could never

Please critically assess the academicians assertion to the effect that nothing can be perceived and

пѓЁ Before answering the essay question, I would like to introduce Augustine and the new academy
academicians (Plato s successors). Augustine is a philosopher and theologian that was born in 13
November 354 and his first language is Latin. He was famous with writings that influenced a lot
of people and helped in developing the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east
his teaching was not accepted at all. In addition, at age of 11, he started his educational path at
madaurus and at the age of 17, he continued his education in a Carthage where he started his
education in rhetoric. Furthermore, He was well recognized as Saint Augustine and was viewed
as the father of western church. Augustin most recognizable work and still read and appreciated

his friends stole some fruits from the neighbor s garden. Finally, He died in 28 August 430, so he
lived seventy five years old.

Essay on Analyis of Knowledge of a Possibility by JUllary...
The value of literature as a source of knowledge is a timeless debate that varies depending on
how knowledge is defined. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility
(Putnam 488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a
source of conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novelbrought with it conventions for a
more realistic writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree
of realism ranged from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as
Formal Realism, and writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves
characteristics of classic genres of epics and romances. These... Show more content on

The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both
the empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual
elements of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that
allow us to think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual
knowledge allows readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another
person s beliefs. There are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some
instances the hypotheses we obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal
experience, and consequently may be confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical
knowledge, which is gained through observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this
context, Putnam rejects the ability of literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In
his example about The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book
provides knowledge of what it was like to be a communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a
disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it must have been like; but...you have no right to
say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489). Despite this distinction, Putnam still asserts
the value of knowledge in literature Dorris

Summary OfThe Haunted Palace By Edgar Allan Poe
Dear Edgar Allan Poe, I feel your poem The Haunted Palace is a very strongly written poem with an
extremely dark twist. Your use of metaphors, symbolism, alliteration, stanzas and rhyme scheme
makes this poem an interesting read. With some language you use, it makes it somewhat hard to
read in some areas but the rhyming helps to understand those words. Throughout most of the poem
you use an ABAB rhymescheme, along with the use of a slant rhyme. The way you are able spin
words makes a very fun read. The title of this particular poem is a foreshadow of the sinister
twist that you are well known for. In the first few lines, the poem seems to speak about a
beautiful palace, which is uncommon in your works. Such as line three once a fair and stately
place . Using words like fair and stately gives the reader a sense of peace and being at ease. Also
with lines nine and ten banners yellow, glorious, golden, on its roof did float and flow supplies an
image of a beautiful palace in the greenest of valleys (line 1). This puts an image in my mindof a
fairy tale esque land. The King or monarch is introduced in line five, as to which the voice of the
person telling the story gives the name Thought. So now we have the idea of this king and a
beautiful palace placed into our minds. To me it feels even more so as a fairy tale having a
powerful King and his beautiful palace. The voice of the poem gives me a feeling that the King is
loved by his people. As with the name

1.Is this a customer service problem? Why or why not?
Yes, customer service is a problem. Customer service is defined by the ability of logistics
management to satisfy users in terms of time, dependability, communication and convenience
(Murphy Wood, 2011). These are the goals that are utilized in establishing customerservice
objectives. For those customers buying from small dealers provided extensive delivery times and
therefore the time and not met by the customer service definition. In some cases, customers were
told the item was out of stock and to cancel the order in order to buy a better from them for the

The Events Of World War I
As is the case with many wars, a foundation has to be set before the situation can escalate into a
fully fledged war. Some concede that ephemeral events just before the outbreak of war are more
inciteful of the fighting rather than long held animosity between nations. Others hold credence in
the idea that wars often begin long before the first shot is fired, with their sole reason for starting
being traced back to previous conflicts and tensions with other countries. The tensions of World War
Icould be observed within Europe before the war officially started, as is observed through
German resentment and competition with other countries, along with their dominating foreign
policies and support of their allied nations. The groundwork for World War I was laid down far
before the July Crisis could have any effect on the start of the war. The ticking time bomb that was
Europe contained countries bent on imperialism and maintaining the best situation for themselves,
causing great tensions to form between nations. One such rivalry developed between Germany,
known as Prussia at the time, and France. During the Franco Prussian War of 1871, Prussia
managed to capture Alsace Lorraine, a part of France. The French were unsettled by their defeat
and loss of land, determined to reclaim Alsace Lorraine as a representation of their power and
authority in Europe. This goal led to revanchism in France, where they would suddenly one day rise

Current Science Event: Sonic Tractor Beams In the past, scientists have extoled levitation through
electromagnetic fields and even concentrated laser beams to levitate ferromagnetic material. Now,
scientists in the U.K. have built a contraption comprised of 64 loudspeakers and intensive computer

counteract Earth s gravity. The side speakers then prevent the levitating object from rolling off the

This can be accomplished only through complex computer simulations, which uses three acoustic
modulations to hold a levitating object in midair. These acoustic modulations can even be
programmed to twirl and move levitating objects, or simply form a high pressure bubble that
holds the object stationary. Some acoustic simulations require the levitating object to be encased
on all four sides by loudspeaker arrays to improve maneuverability. The actual loudspeaker relies
on a series of long and short wavelengths, of which are generated at 40 kilohertz, at 140 150

human hearing, but is detectable to dogs. When the inaudible wavelengths create a pocket of low

Pros And Cons Of Modern Technology
Technology is changing and improving every single day. The future is guaranteed to be filled
with technology and there definitely will be some things that may work out better than others.
Holograms are ,in my opinion, one of the biggest things thats need to start being researched
today. Some people may think that holograms may not be as integral for the future as others may
see, or may be ethically wrong, but, I think that they are going to be seen everywhere and
become as common as a smart phone is in today s world. They have so many benefits, such as
the the medical and political world. Holograms also have so many useful possibilities for the
everyday person, such as cars and phones. Holograms are ready to mark on society, it is just a
matter of time until we feel ready for them to become reality. What is a 3D hologram. According
to Matthias Mangold, the managing director of Magic Holo, a 3D hologram is defined as a 3D
projection that exists freely in space and is visible to everyone without the need for 3D glasses.
Just like in futuristic movies where you see someone pop out of a phone and talk to you. This
technology is a lot closer than you think. In a article that was written in December of 2015, it
states, A 16 company consortium called ETRI, led by LG Display division, has created tabletop
holographic display that can be viewed from all angles. According to ET News, it s a true
hologram and not a pseudo hologram that make[s] 3D effects through 2D images.

Several hundred Soviet, nuclear tipped, ballistic missiles streak towards the United States without

Environment Values And Values
The environment impacts human beings negatively and positively in many aspects. The
environment provides humans many things from things like water, air, nutrients, water cycling for
agriculture and disease prevention or recreation. These things are give to humans for free, so why
do not we value the environment. The environment provides us with many things which we need
to survive on day to day basis, which is one of the reason why I valueanother environment. The
second reason being the instrumental value, meaning that being in and seeing nature bring people
satisfaction. To me being nature helps me keep my mental wellness positive if there are any issues
or negative problems, which I am unable to resolve. Being in nature gives me that satisfaction and
promotes me to solve them. Second being the intrinsic valuethat nature can stand alone. I believe
this because humans came to earth, environment existed before. The environment could sustain and
preserve it self before, it is due to humans activities that is destroying the environment.
We all acquire beliefs and values from many sources. We all react differently to life experiences
which ultimately influences the way in which we see and interpret the world around us. The
following factors of schooling system, parents and government/ health safety sector, have
influenced me to the see environment in such perspective. The first factor is schooling system

Similarities are both Detroit and ColumbusZoos have a lot of the same animals, a famous train ride,

Voltaire Exposes the Fallacy of Optimism in Candide Essay
Voltaire was the French author of the novella Candide, also known as Optimism (Durant and
Durant 724). Famous as a playwright and essayist, Voltaire s Candide is the book where he tries to
point out the fallacy of Gottfried William von Leibniz s theory of Optimism. He uses satire, and
techniques of exaggeration to contrast highlight the evil and brutality of war and the world in
general when men are meekly accepting of their fate. Leibniz, a German philosopher and
mathematician of Voltaires time, developed the idea that the world they were living in at that time
was the best of all possible worlds. This systematic optimism shown by Leibniz is the philosophical
system that believed everything already was for the best, no matter how... Show more content on

Candide is the son of the Baron of Thunder ten tronckh s sister. Candide grows up in the Castle
of Westphalia and is taught by Dr. Pangloss, a man that Candide often looked to for insight and
understanding. One of Panglos many great beleifs is that all is for the best and that good can be
found in everything. Candide fell in love with a girl by the name of Lady Cunegonde who is
described as having extravagant beauty.
Candide is abruptly exiled from the castle when found kissing the Baron s daughter, Cunegonde.
Devastated by the separation from Cunegonde, his true love,
Candide sets out to different places in the hope of finding her and achieving total happiness. On
his journey, he faces a number of misfortunes, among them being tortured during army training,
yet he continues to believe that there is a cause and effect for everything. Candide is reunited
with Cunegonde, and regains a life of prosperity, but soon all is taken away, including his
beloved Cunegonde. He travels on, and years later he finds her again, but she is now fat and
ugly. His wealth is all gone and so is his love for the Baron s daughter. Throughout Candide, we
see how accepting situations and not trying to change or overcome obstacles can be damaging.
Life is full of struggles, but it would be nonproductive if people passively accepted whatever fate
had in store for them, shrugging off their personal responsibility. Voltaire believes

Obtaining High Resolution Images And 3d Reconstruction
Introduction:
The Confocal Microscope is a type of microscope that is being developed for obtaining high
resolution images and 3D reconstruction. The images from the confocal are far better than other
microscopes; however, not quite as good as fluorescent microscopes. Confocal microscopy has
good impact values in visualizing the objects in life science; one of the top values is to show the
fine image possible in 3D. Confocal microscopy has few advantages in different ways compare to
Wide field optical microscopy. One of these advantages is to show the depth of the field elimination
or reduction of background information away from the focal plane, and the capacity to collect serial
optical sections from thick specimens [1]. The most significant value about the confocal
microscope is the spatial filtering techniques that terminate the glare and focus the substance into
the view. One of the other advantages of Confocal microscopy and Wide field microscopy; the
confocal type of microscopy has the easiest way to rich the extremely high quality images. This
is base on the recent year s popularity of using the microscopes in the science field for growing
cells in biology hat rely on imaging both fixed and living cells and tissues. However, each type of
the microscopes is valuable to be used in different types of research experiments. The high and
most significant value about Confocal is the 3D imaging in fluorescence microscopy. Due to

February 6th is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. This day
was established to advocate FGM s harmful effects to girls and the deprival result it has to women s
rights. In 1997, the United Nations partnered up with the United Nations Children s Fund
(UNICEF) and the United NationsPopulation Fund (UNFPA) in anticipating advancing the
abandonment. These funds have attended conferences to discuss the most effective and efficient
way to abolish the mutilation. UNFPA and UNICEF established the largest global program and
targets 17 countries in Africa. The UN is making considerable efforts to eradicate FGM including
public policy changes and research. The World Health Organization(WHO) has passed WHA61, a...

The KMG led to such a decrease by focusing mainly on conversations in the communities to
discuss social issues. Ethiopian citizens have been trained to educate the public and convene with
organizations that will help. FGM in Ethiopia has decreased by 10 percent in 2016. The country
has also incorporated the 2015 Demographic and Health Survey and Child, Early and Forced
Marriage to control the situation.
Solutions:
Female Genital Mutilation is one of the biggest health threats to women in the world. It
discriminates against their right to health and security. Ethiopia notices this world problem and
proposes solutions leading to the elimination of the practice. First, Ethiopia proposes to spread
awareness all over the world. In undeveloped countries, this will be done by partnering up with
NGO s including: Save the Children, V Day, Worldvision, and Equality Now. This practice is
believed to be decreased and eventually stopped by educating the sovereignty of the dangers and
threats FGM conceives. Respected locals would be encouraged to educate not only the women on
the harmful effects, however also boys and men, the public, faith leaders, and health professionals.
For the public to act and comprehend this, the speakers must be trusted and efficient. The public
will be taught how to avoid pressure of being accepted from the community and doubt how FGM is
necessary to become suitable for marriage. By

The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes
I
In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in
philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines
the nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from
skepticism. Hoping for the successful reconciliation of science and theology, Descartes works to
reconstruct a new foundation of absolute and certain truth to act as a catalyst for future scientific
research by showing that a mathematical [rational objective] physics of the world is attainable by
creatures with our intellectual capacities and faculties (Shand 1994, p. ... Show more content on

The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts
the position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern
matter. Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced
by God, nor influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold
stroke, proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and
strengthens human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness.
As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various
modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding,
affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these
operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which
Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in
general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will.
Garrett Thompson writes:
Descartes divides all thoughts into two kinds: ideas

Corporate members come from numerous sectors, from retail to educational to financial services
(see Exhibit 2 for a list of corporate members for the Guggenheim Museum). This diversity in
corporate sponsorship helps promote the diversity in audience that the Guggenheim Foundation is
looking to attract by reaching out to people working in different sectors and in various locations
around the world. To determine whether the Armani exhibition is considered a sell out, the
relationship between the objectives of the Armani exhibition and the Solomon R. Guggenheim
Foundation s mission statement plays a central role. Since the mission statement allows for
interpretation of what is considered art in the modern and contemporary periods, the Armani
exhibition does fit into this mission. Additionally, since the Foundation strives to put on
exceptional exhibitions for an increasingly diverse international audience, the Armani exhibition
fulfills this part of the mission because it attracted a high level of attentionВ—from celebrities to
experts in the fashion industry to businesspeopleВ—who came from different parts of the world to
see the famous works of Armani. Thus, this exhibition does appear to fulfill the mission of the
Foundation. However, it is important to note that while at face value the Armani exhibition seems
to fulfill the mission of the Foundation, the actual Armani exhibition itself tells a different story.

Summary Of Reservation Blues By Sherman Alexie
In the story of reservation blues by sherman alexie the opening chapter starts off with the literary
device of foreshadowing. In the one hundred and eleven years since the creation of the spokane
indian reservation in 1881, not one person, indian or otherwise, had arrived there by accident.
Wellpinit, the only town the reservation, did not exist on most maps, so the black stranger
surprised the whole tribe when he appeared with nothing more than the suit he wore and guitar
slung over his back. The opening scene in this chapter gave me the feel of an mystical spooky
setting. This lead me to believe that this character Robert Johnson would have a big part in this
story. Robert johnson is an african american man who was a famous guitar... Show more content on

Body Art and Ornamentation in Different Cultures
Introduction to Cultural Anthropology ANT101
July 28, 2013
There is no culture in which people do not, or did not paint, pierce, tattoo, reshape, or simply adorn
their bodies (Schildkrout, 2001). Throughout history, body artand ornamentation has become a
worldwide phenomenon and has played a key role in our lives, yet there is a social stigma which we
cannot seem to rid ourselves of. It is most commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted which can
be attributed to the fact that the symbolism and significance of the body art and/or ornamentation
doesn t always translate the same among the cultures. Although Western cultureviews body art ...

Looking from another culture s perspective, the various forms of African body art and
ornamentation are seen as being weird, out of the ordinary, and we don t understand the
importance they hold within these African cultures. On the other hand, there are other cultures
such as the Japanese, who instead of outwardly portraying their body art and ornamentation will
instead conceal it so it won t be visible at all. The first signs of body art and ornamentation which
appear in the Japanese culture were first noted as originating all the way back to AD 297 (Rapp,
2010). Back then, tattoos would signify which occupational group certain men belonged to and
men, both young and old, would get tattoos all over their bodies including their faces. Men would
even go as far as getting full body tattoos which could be found on laborers, firemen, and gangsters
(Hopkins Tanne, 2000). The Chinese considered all Japanese tattoos an act of barbarism and was
perceived as being extremely negative. The body art and ornamentation that exists and has existed
within the Japanese culture spreads beyond just tattooing and there are a few other methods that
they used.
First, many married Japanese women or courtesan in the 10th through 19th centuries would apply a
paste to their teeth which would blacken them (Schildkrout, 2001). This was considered as being

Viking Battle Tactics
Viking battle tactics and weaponry continues to impact our world today. From the unique technique
that the Viking performs in battle to the powerful weapons used. The Vikings were the first and
probably the last to introduce their unique battle tactic. Which is that they had no professional
standing army and did not fight regular formations (Viking Weapons and Warfare). The formation
was to charge towards their enemies all at once, catching their enemies off guard and giving the
Vikings the advantage of the upper hand. They were able to win battles with the formation due to
the loyalty bond between the Viking men and women with their lords (Viking Weapons and
Warfare). Another unique battle tactic the Vikings introduced was the spread and lay their weapons
in the surrounding area where the battle takes place beforehand, just in case the formation were to
backfire (VIKINGS MILITARYTACTICS AND FORTIFICATIONS).
This tactic was also an advantage if the enemies were to attack first, they would get injured first
before the Vikings can attack. The development of weapons that... Show more content on

Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum
I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on
Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it
provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different
time periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a
style of historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome (
Classicism and Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the
leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort
Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The
window was created based upon the original painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist
designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is influenced by the roots of western civilization by
visual characteristics such as her contrapposto stance. I believe that this art is trying to
communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the water to carry out her duties as a
goddess.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to morning (Took) so I assumed that the window is layered with glass to allow a certain amount of
light to appear through thus allowing the concept of early morning to be displayed in the artwork.
Roman mythology also states that her energy represents new hope and renewal that each day brings

Pixar Changing The Overall Feeling For Animation Forever
Pixar changed animation forever by introducing new ideas and changing the overall feel for
animation forever. One very important trend that Pixar started was the actual slowing down of a
movies narrative. Previously, before Pixar, animated movies such as Aladdin or even Beauty and
The Beast, both made by Disney, were both very rapidly paced, along with most other animated
movie prior to Pixar. Most companies did this because they considered their audiences to be an
extremely impatient bunch, specifically children. Pixar however, disproved this theory with Up,

As time can tell, it was a safe bet, by the time the credits of Toy Story began to roll the first day,
the movies would never be the same (Zorthian). Toy Story grossed a total of $191,796,233 at the
box office in The United States alone, it was the highest selling film for three weeks in a row. As the
first full length, 3D computer animated movie, it was a milestone for animation, possibly the most
significant since the introduction of color. Most critics however, glossed over this achievement,
which was actually exactly what the developers were hoping for. The critics were actually
thrilled at the invisibility of the work. The film even won an academy award for Special
Achievement, also including nominations for best original screenplay, score, and song. The
foundation that was set by Toy Story had effects far beyond the franchise. Pixar, which Disney
officially acquired in 2006, has released 15 movies since then, this includes 26 Academy Awards
and three Grammy s in total. There have been more than 250 computer animated films released
world wide since Toy Story. John Lasseter, current chief creative officer of Pixar and Disney,
attributes that plentitude in part to the choice by the Toy Story team to worry about the story more
than showing off, and to concentrate on developing software to serve their ideas, rather than the
other way around. Lasseter even states, if Toy Story had not succeeded the way it did, it might not

  • 2. Immunology INNATE AND ADAPTIVE IMMUNITY: Compare and Contrast the Biological Processes Underlying Innate and Adaptive Immunity By (name) Course: Instructor: University: City/State: Date Compare and Contrast the Biological Processes Underlying Innate and Adaptive Immunity In the biology Immunology field, immunity is defined as the balanced state of a living organism for instance, the human body having sufficient biological defenses to combat infection, illness, or other unwanted biological incursion, while having acceptable tolerance to avoid contamination and allergies (Sompayrac, 2012, p.5). The immune system is a group of cells, nerves, and molecules that defend the body from many pathogenic microorganisms and contaminants in the environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the adaptive immune classification is organized around a binary class of cells, namely the T and B cells, whereas the cells of the innate immune classification are considerably more in number, comprising natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and macrophages (Pulendran, Katsikis, amp; Schoenberger, 2011, p. 12). Further differences can be seen from the immune system receptors. The receptors of innate classification cells are completely germline encoded, in other words, their structure is controlled by the genome of the cell and has a permanent genetically determined specificity. On the other hand, adaptive immune classification cells have semantically engendered variable region receptors such as the TCR and BCR, which are T, and B cell receptors with variable specificities, fashioned by a complex procedure of gene segment reorganization within the cell (Pulendran, Katsikis, amp;Schoenberger, 2011, p. 13). Additionally, another difference is on a population level. Various studies such as the conceptual framework for innate immunity highlight that innate immune classification cells have a non clonal distribution of receptors, suggesting that all cells of an identical sort and have receptors with matching specificities. However, receptors on adaptive immune classification cells are dispersed clonally in a pattern that are suppurations of a specific clone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Seeking a Just Judiciary In recent years, many people in the United States have acquired an oddly tilted concept of how the judicial branch of government should function. Modern consensus postulates that the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of the Constitution, and that its judgments cannot be challenged or changed except through its own decision (Vieira). Curiously, however, this idea of giving the power of final constitutional interpretation to the judiciary known in law as judicial supremacy finds no basis in the text of the Constitution itself or in historical opinion. This doctrine is a modern construction, and it poses an unhappily real threat to individual liberties in America. The people of our nation deserve a judiciary that is just in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While one may contend that there were relatively few judicial power grabs during the lifetimes of these two presidents, there is a disturbing new legal model that extends the power of the Supreme Court far beyond its traditional authority of constitutional arbitration. In 1965, a landmark case known as Griswold v. Connecticut came before the Supreme Court. The ruling was, as usual, long and technical, but the legal precedent upon which the Court based its holding had many lawyers scratching their heads and reaching for their dictionaries. The Court confidently stated that their holding was based upon the right to privacy , which the justices had managed to locate in a penumbra, formed by emanations from [the Bill of Rights] (Griswold). The word penumbra, which is used four times in this particular ruling, is not often heard in the field of law, and for good reason. Of all things, it is a Latin astronomical term that roughly translates to secondary shadow . Essentially, the 1965 Court was calling the enumerated rights the umbra, or primary shadow, while claiming that there was a separate set of unenumerated rights found in the penumbra (Griswold v. Connecticut). This idea of a constitutional penumbra, which was never suggested before the ruling in Griswold, allows the Supreme Court to invent entirely new rights and constitutional statutes, an ability that extends its powers into ... • 4. The City s Statute Violate The Equal Protection Clauses The City s statute provides, No person over the age 10 shall use a public restroom assigned to the opposite sex of that which is listed on the person s birth certificate. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor, punishable by law . The plaintiff s contention is that the city s statute violates the equal protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Since the classification at issue involves gender of the users of the public restrooms, it falls within the quasi suspect categories. Therefore, this city must meet the intermediate scrutiny standard. This city statute requires the citizens at the age of 10 or older to use the public restroom designated for their gender as listed on their birth certificates. When the government enacts a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where a gender neutral alternative is available, the gender discriminatory classification is not said to be the least intrusive means that the government can use, and therefore, the classification put forward by the government is not necessary . However, the government would be required to show that the means they use is necessary and narrowly tailored to advance its objectives only under strict scrutiny. Where the classification is not invidious, not selecting the least discriminatory means would not necessarily render the statute violative of equal protection. Rostker v. Goldberg, 453 U.S. 57, 101 S. Ct. 2646 (1981). As established supra, it is the intermediate scrutiny standard that applies to the present issue, and the City only needs to prove that its objective is important and the statutory classification is substantially related to that objective. It is not necessary for the City to pursue the least discriminatory means to pass the judicial review. The City will withstand intermediate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reggae Music s Influence On American Culture Reggae Music Music itself is often times a strong indicator of a society s culture, history, and beliefs. Sometimes however, when another group listens to one society s music they also make connections to lyrics, sounds, and melodies that were put into the song. This is very much the case with Reggae music as not only did it take off in Jamaica, its country of origin, but the United States and parts of Europe as well. Jamaicans viewed music as a way to pass down traditions and as a way to pass through difficult times. Reggae music often times discusses the suffering of the Jamaican people in its lyrics. • 7. American Values And American Values American values are seen in different ways by different people and cultures. Some people view American values as religion, culture, and customs. There are some American values that have changed to make things better and there are some that will never change no matter the situation. A value that has changed is freedom and the right of equality. There are two documents that can support this statement and one of them is known as Common Sense which was written by Thomas Paine. Thomas Paine was a pro American writer and author of some of the most persuasive documents of the American Revolution. One document that he was famous for was Common Sense. This document argued for American independence from Great Britain and for a republican form of government as superior to hereditary monarchy. This was one very persuasive document that was written and had an extraordinary impact on colonies. ( Thomas Paine. , edited by Paul Lauter, The Heath Anthology of American Literature, 2006, PP 1046.). If Thomas Paine did not publish that document we would not have been introduced to The Declaration of Independence which is the second document that backs the argument. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson who was not just the author of the clause, but he was also the third president of the United States serving from 1801 to 1809. He was also a philosopher, farmer and landowner during his era. Before The Declaration of Independence there were a few colonists that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many relatives visited this house and stayed there. Particularly in case of some ceremony or distress, many relatives came to share such occasions. Sadiqa s friendship with Imran came out an account of his characteristic. Thus the story, The Lady Finger presents a true picture of our society in a very convincing manner. The story, The Lady Finger, has the characteristics of both fatalism and feminism. But the fatalism has been dealt with loudly. In other words, the story opens with romantic of an adopted girl and proceeds along the growth of the girl. The story writer develops the story the story taking the norms of society into account. Certainly, human beings around girl, though unconsciously, are taking the girl. However, the greater cause of the girl s troubles is not human beings. It is her fate. • 10. The Enigma Of Capital And The Crisis Of Capitalism A Critical Review of David Harvey s The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism Sudheer Vemuru Economics 490 10 November, 2014 In writing this paper, I have abided by the Honor Code at UNC Chapel Hill. Signature:____________________ ______________________ пїј The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism is a forum for author David Harvey to voice his concerns on the contemporary global capitalist model. As a Marxist geographer and anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism through a lens of skepticism that results in a scathing renunciation of the capitalist goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction. Harvey argues that in a world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the capitalist process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and boom (40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the vast majority of the population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the power of capital and unable to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the extent of the problem we face in the wake of the Great Recession. The economy continues to grow modestly, while median household income shrinks (Noss 2). The capitalists are reloading once again at the expense of Main Street. As Harvey points out, there is a great need to reevaluate of our views of modern capitalism. The Enigma of Capital is just a starting point. Harvey begins his analysis of capitalism with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Paris Climate Conference ( European Commission ) The Paris climate conference was held in December and 195 countries participated in an agreement pertaining to climate change. This agreement is global and is expected to be put into plan in 2020. The main goal of this conference was to develop a plan to have countries participate in trying to bring global warmingdown to 2В°C (European Commission, 2016). Like every other agreement that has had an impact on the world s decisions there is both supporters and critics which results in the pros and cons of the development of the plan. There are justifiably arguments on each side and there is no right answer until the plan goes into full effect in 2020. Therefore, the issue of climatechange is not going anywhere anytime soon. The deal is said to be a major win for the global community and is the first ever truly global climate deal (European Commission, 2016). One very positive outcome of the Paris agreement is that all countries pledged to limit temperature increase to 1.5 degrees. This is one step closer to fixing this serious environmental problem. Considering, since 1880 the temperature of earth has risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, the arctic ice minimum decreased 13.4 percent per decade. (NASA, 2016) Another positive outcome from the agreement is that 185 countries have written up a plan to reduce their emissions, a gas that traps heat in the atmosphere also known as greenhouse gases. • 12. A Look at Desegregation as a Part of a Larger Phenomenon... The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. America has, since the coining of the term, proven that it was an artificial label with little resemblance to the truth. Throughout history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Perhaps none have suffered more than the African Americans at the hand of Anglo Saxon Americans. In his South Carolina Schools and Colleges Desegregation manuscript William E. Rone details the hard fought court cases against educational segregation in South Carolina during the 50s and 60s as well as events which related to those cases. The cases depict a story of intolerance, disregard for the law with respect to desegregation, and outright harm to non white Americans. Knowing America s past and present one could say that America is more akin to an un tossed salad than a melting pot. All the pieces coexisting together, yet perpetually divided by racial and cultural barriers as well as anger and fear of the unfamiliar. America, and the South especially, provided substandard segregated schooling and amenities for African Americans which perpetuated the culture gap and only widened the separation of races in America during the mid 1900s. This book used both Existentialism and Absurdism to promote Meursault s problem throughout the book. Both of these are related to Modernism, which was the aftermath of the industrial revolution. Modernism is a philosophical movement that along with cultural trends and changes arose wide scale and far reaching transformations in western society during the late 19th and early 20th century (Koofers 1). A final example from the first part of the book was before Meursault hit the turning point, he refused a job offer in Paris because he thought life would still be the same even if he was in a different area. These brief examples show that Meursault is ignoring the social critique. All of his actions are related to Clairvoyance, a surrealist art by RenГ© Magritte. In the painting, RenГ© Magritte predicted the future of the egg onto a canvas and in The Stranger, Meursault s actions lead us to predict that things weren t going to go great for him within the end of the first part. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility (Putnam 488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a source of conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novelbrought with it conventions for a more realistic writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree of realism ranged from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as Formal Realism, and writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves characteristics of classic genres of epics and romances. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both the empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual elements of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that allow us to think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual knowledge allows readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another person s beliefs. There are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some instances the hypotheses we obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal experience, and consequently may be confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical knowledge, which is gained through observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this context, Putnam rejects the ability of literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In his example about The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book provides knowledge of what it was like to be a communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it must have been like; but...you have no right to say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489). • 30. Summary OfThe Haunted Palace By Edgar Allan Poe Dear Edgar Allan Poe, I feel your poem The Haunted Palace is a very strongly written poem with an extremely dark twist. Your use of metaphors, symbolism, alliteration, stanzas and rhyme scheme makes this poem an interesting read. With some language you use, it makes it somewhat hard to read in some areas but the rhyming helps to understand those words. Throughout most of the poem you use an ABAB rhymescheme, along with the use of a slant rhyme. The way you are able spin words makes a very fun read. The title of this particular poem is a foreshadow of the sinister twist that you are well known for. In the first few lines, the poem seems to speak about a beautiful palace, which is uncommon in your works. Such as line three once a fair and stately place . Using words like fair and stately gives the reader a sense of peace and being at ease. Customer service is defined by the ability of logistics management to satisfy users in terms of time, dependability, communication and convenience (Murphy Wood, 2011). These are the goals that are utilized in establishing customerservice objectives. For those customers buying from small dealers provided extensive delivery times and therefore the time and not met by the customer service definition. In some cases, customers were told the item was out of stock and to cancel the order in order to buy a better from them for the same price and therefore, discrediting the small business. • 32. The Events Of World War I As is the case with many wars, a foundation has to be set before the situation can escalate into a fully fledged war. Some concede that ephemeral events just before the outbreak of war are more inciteful of the fighting rather than long held animosity between nations. Others hold credence in the idea that wars often begin long before the first shot is fired, with their sole reason for starting being traced back to previous conflicts and tensions with other countries. The tensions of World War Icould be observed within Europe before the war officially started, as is observed through German resentment and competition with other countries, along with their dominating foreign policies and support of their allied nations. The groundwork for World War I was laid down far before the July Crisis could have any effect on the start of the war. The ticking time bomb that was Europe contained countries bent on imperialism and maintaining the best situation for themselves, causing great tensions to form between nations. One such rivalry developed between Germany, known as Prussia at the time, and France. During the Franco Prussian War of 1871, Prussia managed to capture Alsace Lorraine, a part of France. The French were unsettled by their defeat and loss of land, determined to reclaim Alsace Lorraine as a representation of their power and authority in Europe. This goal led to revanchism in France, where they would suddenly one day rise [to] regain Lorraine [and] recapture Alsace. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sonic Research Paper Current Science Event: Sonic Tractor Beams In the past, scientists have extoled levitation through electromagnetic fields and even concentrated laser beams to levitate ferromagnetic material. Now, scientists in the U.K. have built a contraption comprised of 64 loudspeakers and intensive computer calculations. Essentially, the loudspeakers synchronize their sound waves so that they uniformly counteract Earth s gravity. The side speakers then prevent the levitating object from rolling off the invisible upwards force of sound waves, effectively keeping it in the epicenter of sound waves differential pressure. However, only light weight, spherical objects can be levitated, such as polystyrene beads could be levitated, as the pressure differentiation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be accomplished only through complex computer simulations, which uses three acoustic modulations to hold a levitating object in midair. These acoustic modulations can even be programmed to twirl and move levitating objects, or simply form a high pressure bubble that holds the object stationary. Some acoustic simulations require the levitating object to be encased on all four sides by loudspeaker arrays to improve maneuverability. The actual loudspeaker relies on a series of long and short wavelengths, of which are generated at 40 kilohertz, at 140 150 decibels. Because this device runs at 40 kilohertz, the sound frequency is well above amicable human hearing, but is detectable to dogs. When the inaudible wavelengths create a pocket of low pressure, they can counteract the gravitational force of a polystyrene ball 5mm in circumference. Allow its rather paltry ability to levitate only light weight material averts this technology from being applied as a tractor beams, medical scientists are exuberant about the fact that they can modify it to activate acoustic medication and manipulate individual ... The future is guaranteed to be filled with technology and there definitely will be some things that may work out better than others. Holograms are ,in my opinion, one of the biggest things thats need to start being researched today. Some people may think that holograms may not be as integral for the future as others may see, or may be ethically wrong, but, I think that they are going to be seen everywhere and become as common as a smart phone is in today s world. They have so many benefits, such as the the medical and political world. Holograms also have so many useful possibilities for the everyday person, such as cars and phones. Holograms are ready to mark on society, it is just a matter of time until we feel ready for them to become reality. What is a 3D hologram. According to Matthias Mangold, the managing director of Magic Holo, a 3D hologram is defined as a 3D projection that exists freely in space and is visible to everyone without the need for 3D glasses. Just like in futuristic movies where you see someone pop out of a phone and talk to you. This technology is a lot closer than you think. One of these advantages is to show the depth of the field elimination or reduction of background information away from the focal plane, and the capacity to collect serial optical sections from thick specimens [1]. The most significant value about the confocal microscope is the spatial filtering techniques that terminate the glare and focus the substance into the view. One of the other advantages of Confocal microscopy and Wide field microscopy; the confocal type of microscopy has the easiest way to rich the extremely high quality images. • 54. Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different time periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her contrapposto stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the water to carry out her duties as a goddess.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The name Aurora in Latin translates to morning (Took) so I assumed that the window is layered with glass to allow a certain amount of light to appear through thus allowing the concept of early morning to be displayed in the artwork. Roman mythology also states that her energy represents new hope and renewal that each day brings (Dawn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Pixar Changing The Overall Feeling For Animation Forever Pixar changed animation forever by introducing new ideas and changing the overall feel for animation forever. One very important trend that Pixar started was the actual slowing down of a movies narrative. Previously, before Pixar, animated movies such as Aladdin or even Beauty and The Beast, both made by Disney, were both very rapidly paced, along with most other animated movie prior to Pixar. Most companies did this because they considered their audiences to be an extremely impatient bunch, specifically children. Pixar however, disproved this theory with Up, Wall E, and many others. Pixar knew the value of temporarily slowing down a movies narrative. Pixar had faith that it s audience, including children, would not lose interest during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time can tell, it was a safe bet, by the time the credits of Toy Story began to roll the first day, the movies would never be the same (Zorthian). Toy Story grossed a total of $191,796,233 at the box office in The United States alone, it was the highest selling film for three weeks in a row. As the first full length, 3D computer animated movie, it was a milestone for animation, possibly the most significant since the introduction of color. Most critics however, glossed over this achievement, which was actually exactly what the developers were hoping for. The critics were actually thrilled at the invisibility of the work. The film even won an academy award for Special Achievement, also including nominations for best original screenplay, score, and song. The foundation that was set by Toy Story had effects far beyond the franchise. Pixar, which Disney officially acquired in 2006, has released 15 movies since then, this includes 26 Academy Awards and three Grammy s in total. There have been more than 250 computer animated films released world wide since Toy Story. John Lasseter, current chief creative officer of Pixar and Disney, attributes that plentitude in part to the choice by the Toy Story team to worry about the story more than showing off, and to concentrate on developing software to serve their ideas, rather than the other way around. Lasseter even states, if Toy Story had not succeeded the way it did, it might not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
