The Monroe Doctrine Dbq
в †In December of 1823 James Monroe presented the Monroe Doctrine to Congress. It announced
that the American continents are henceforth not to be considered subjects for future colonization
by any European power. This was set in place to adress American anxiety about Latin America and
Russian Expansion beyond its settlements. Although this was just a statement and Monroe s words
carried no force European nations stayed out of New Word affairs because they feared the Royal
Navy. Around this time things were developing industrially within the United States. The Industrial
Revolution began in England due to their abundant raw materials and their rich coal but it would
eventually venture into the United States. Transportation, new inventions,... Show more content on

One of the major advantages of the North was their transportation routes. They had many more
roads, canals, and railroads which meant that they were no longer limited to where they lived. In
the North they built factories and the cities were industrialized. They believed that you must work
hard no matter rich or poor. The people of the north had a greater population but they did not
allow slavery and they encouraged the South to do the same. As opposed to the south, the people
of the north wanted a strong national government and they wanted high protective tariffs. If there
were high protective tariffs then there would not be as much demand for cotton in the south
causing there to be a lesser need for slaves. Within the north there were many job opportunities in
the factories for not only men but now women and children. The women had a set schedule of
when they worked in order to make their fathers happy and it was based on faith. Regardless of
how long you worked the men always made the most money, than women, and finally

Starbucks And Its Impact On The World Coffee Industry Essay
Millions of people all over the world will take time out of their day to walk into a Starbucks for a
cup of Joe . Coffee is the most popular leading beverage that is enjoyed throughout the world and
in so many different forms. You can get coffee just about anywhere, but there is a reason why
people choose Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is known for their friendly, positive environment with
staff that is truly accommodating and welcoming. People buy Starbucks for what it represents and
the status image that comes along with it. Starbucks has an excellent business structure due to its
national and global success. Starbucks stands strong in the world coffee industry and still is
financially succeeding even in hard economic times with coffee that may seem overpriced to many.
The coffee industry is continually growing regardless of the increase cost of coffee since
January 2009. The price has been rising not because of the price of coffee itself, but because of
the supply chain and the current economic situation around the world. In 2012, Starbucks had to
raise their prices globally, but especially in the United States and China, due to rising prices of
coffee and other ingredients they use to make their signature drinks. Although prices were raised
globally due to high demand of the product and the cost of producing it, there is still a strong
demand for Starbucks because of their large consumer base. Starbucks main competitors are
McDonald s and Dunkin Donuts. Starbucks knows

Video Industry And Its Impact On Children
While we are enthusiasts of entertainment and thrilling action, we are parental figures to the next
generation of children on their way. Violence presented in media potentially affects children
through vivid depictions of gore and tragedy, blurring the line between reality and fictionalized
drama. The filmindustry and its supporters thrive off of these displays, drawing in crowds of
spectators which provide the industry with an extraordinary amount of profit. Although many of
these parents are also part of the viewing demographic of movies, concern looms in the access to
this mature content. With the expansion of technology, access to inappropriate scenes and games

An alteration of ticket prices contains a solution for this case. Despite standards which impede the
youth s contact with violence in films and entertainment, there are many methods which break down
the systems placed, including ratings, in order to access this content and this is where the problem
lies. The film industry does not consider changing the appeal of entertainment due to this issue. The
film industry is dependent on adults and children alike in order to sustain their economic success.
Without the support of the general public, their profit would plummet and create chaos in the
entertainment industry itself. While not allowing children to attend rated R movies with their
parents seems like the simplest solution, it is not a plausible one. Upset parents and loss of profit
for billion dollar companies impedes this solution s implementation. The dangers of children being
exposed to violence in media content is a great concern to many but not to the film industry.
Additionally, many parents are uninformed and do not recognize the potential harm associated with
exposing children to fictionalized violence. For a solution to exist between concerned parents and
an industry focused around profit, negotiation has to benefit the multibillion dollar industry in its
primary focus. In

The Incident And My Concerns About The Verbal Allegation
August 28th 1522 pm Submit August 31, 2015 @ 1400 On Friday August 28th there was a
confrontation with Jasmine. I spoke to Amanda at the end of my shift about the incident and my
concerns about the verbal allegations. I ve written a brief summary of the event. Roughly 35 30
minutes left for the shift. We had received an email on the new closing call protocol and a few of
us were discussing the verbiage. Mac and I were discussing how we could put in place the new
closing into our statements during our 0800 1400 calls. While we were discussing this, Jasmine
turned to me and asked what I was doing. I answer that I was working, and asked if she needed
my help anything. She responded with no , but that I looked like I wasn t working and implied
that I should be on the phone taking calls. If memory serves me correct, if you aren t busy you
should be ready. She then asked if I was even on the phone. This was the first day that a few of
us were told not to be in the phones, so I was not logged in to take calls. I told her I was finishing
up some work and I did not engage after I replied. I turned to my computer to complete an email
on the dispute inbox. I was following up on it being cleared and let Bobbie Jo and Art know that I
left a few emails in there until Monday. While I was finishing this, Mac was voicing her concerns
about forgetting the new closing and not being able to complete in the closing of the call. As I was

How To Write An Essay On The Book Thief
In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we learn about Death, who is someone you wouldn t expect
Death to be, our storyteller. He tells us about Liesel, her journey. He tells us about all of her
losses, and victories. Most of all he tells us that she is no ordinary person, she is The Book Thief.
There are many ways that she is the book thief, but the most obvious way is she steals books, but
another way is that Sometimes people are beautiful, not in looks, just they way they are. And that
is another way she steals, she steals the way you look at life.
We start to meet her in a train, that is where she experiences loss for one of the first times, she
loses her brother, and then her mother. The only thing left of them is a book, The Gravedigger s
Handbook. She arrives at Himmel Street, Himmel means heaven, which you couldn t really call this

The Fundamental Issue Of Stakeholder Management
INTRODUCTION
Stakeholder theory
The fundamental issue in stakeholder management is to specify stakeholders or answer this
question that who stakeholders are. There is not much agreement on stakeholder definition
among researchers and project management experts. Mitchel states that various concepts in
relation to stakeholder definition is due to their views to organisation or firm. So there are
narrow and broad definitions. For instance, Freeman s definition is broad one. He defines
stakeholder as any group or individual who can affect or be affected by the achievement of
organisation or firm s objectives. In contrast, Clarkson has narrower view as he considers risk
for stakeholder concept. He believes this risk is due to form of investment in that firm. In fact,
basis of narrow view can be due to limitation in resources, budget, time or form of organisation s
asset. PMBOK s stakeholder definition is similar to Freeman s definition. The only difference is
that organisation is also can be a stakeholder and influence or impact can be due to decision or
outcome of a project.
Management of stakeholders in projects
Project stakeholder management contains processes to identify stakeholders, their expectations,
concerns, needs, interests and their influences in the first step and then to adopt appropriate
management strategies to engage the identified stakeholders in project execution in the next step.
Identify stakeholders
According to PMBOK, all groups or individuals who have

All Halloween Research Paper
Three weeks after our arrival in California, a group of children knocked at our front door at
twilight, dressed in strange costumes. When Aunt Lis opened the door, they chimed Trick or
treat! and she gave them each a handful of candy. Just as the group cheered in appreciation while
they left our house, another group of kids showed up for a repeat of the same. What in the world
was going on? we asked. Noke and Lis quickly explained that it was Halloween; an annual
tradition celebrated on October 31. The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows Eve and
trick or treating, is an activity for children who proceed from house to house, dressed in
costumes, asking for a treat with the question, Trick or treat? The trick is a lighthearted threat to
play a prank on the homeowner or his property if no treat; usually in the form of candy, is given.
Trick or treating is one of the main traditions of Halloween and the beginning of the Holiday
Season. Ellen and I were fascinated and eager to join the festivities, consequently, Aunt Lis
loaned me a blue and white Japanese Kimono and a pair of house slippers while Ellen dressed in
Oma s housecoat and shoes. Chaperoned by our mom and Aunt Lis, we carried an empty white
pillowcase to hold all the candy we anticipated collecting and off we went to the neighbors homes
for our first trick or treating experience. After only an hour s effort, we returned with our
pillowcases nearly full of candy, including a few oranges, apples and coins. What an amusing

Protein Powder Research Paper
Optimum Nutrition Creatine Powder, Unflavored Review
I bought this product in hopes that it would help me bulk up. I ve become a pretty healthy guy, I
work out about 3 times a week. I started working out with my girlfriend 6 months ago. I eat clean
and train as hard as I can, but I was not the size I wanted to be. I decided to invest in Optimum
Nutrition Creatine Powder. A friend had recommended this brand to me so I thought I d give it a
shot. I started using it in addition to my workout plan and eating schedule.
After some initial research I found out that this produce has 5000 mg of Creatine Monohydrate.
This supplement is great for helping muscles grow. It also helps you recover more quickly and
you build overalls strength. When I started taking it 3 months ago, I noticed that I go harder in the
gym. I went from bench pressing 145 to 285 pounds.

Most protein powders out there are way too expensive for what you re actually getting. I don t
mind spending a little extra but it should be proportional. I didn t think twice about buying this
product. This one is a bang for your buck.
It works. I ve tried a lot of pills, supplements, and powders in the past. I didn t really see the
results that I wanted from those, so I was happy to find something that worked for me. I felt an
increase in my energy as I started to use it, so I didn t feel so fatigued during my workouts. The fact
that I actually saw results was motivating.
It s unflavored. For me this is a pro because I would rather have the option of adding it to
anything. If something is chocolate or vanilla flavored I think about what would taste best with it.
When it s unflavored, you can mix it with anything. I usually add it to coffee or my

Descartes Method Of Radical Doubt
Descartes method of radical doubt focuses upon finding the truth about certain things from a
philosophical perspective in order to truly lay down a foundation for ideas that have the slightest
notion of doubt attached to them. He believed that there was no greater task to perform in
philosophy, than assiduously to seek out, once and for all, the best of all these arguments and to
lay them out so precisely and plainly that henceforth all will take them to be true demonstrations
(Meditations, 36). The two key concepts that Descartes proves using the method of doubt are that
the human soul does not die with the body, and that God exists as mentioned in his Letter of
Dedication, since there are many that don t believe the mentioned concepts because of the fact
that they have not been proven or demonstrated. (Meditations, 35). In order to prove the above, he
lays out six Meditations, each focusing on a different theme that leads us to the knowledge of our
mind and of God, so that of all things that can be known by the human mind, these latter are the
most certain and the most evident (Meditations, 40). By carrying out the method of doubt, we are
able to free ourselves from all prejudices with the intention of being able to withdraw our mind
from our senses. In doing so, we set a base for being able to decipher the truth from the falsity
(Meditations, 39). The reasoning to doubt not only comes from the desire to learn the truth, but to
establish anything firm and lasting

The Film I Will Be Evaluating A Sprawling Two Part Sex...
The film I will be evaluating is Nymphomaniac a sprawling two part sex drama that blurs the line
between art and porn. It follows a sex addict named Joe as she s found battered in an alleyway by
an older bachelor named Seligman. In explaining how she came to be in such a condition,
flashback scenes unfold in chapters introduced by snapping witty dialogue between Joe and
Seligman. It begins with Joe throughout her teenage years, when she first begins to discover her
insatiable sexual appetite. Then through her adult life as she is pushed out of normal society. The
film whips through a wide range of topics, such as genderrole conformity, consent, and, metal
dysfunction.
To begin with Joe is a self described nymphomaniac, which is a former term for excessive sexual
desire in a woman, which may lead to promiscuous sexual behavior. Most psychologists have
argued against the use of the term for year it s an antiquated and demeaning word used to
denigrate sexual women. It is not a medical or psychiatric diagnosis. Her correct diagnosis is
hypersexuality, which can apply to anyone, is not a true mental disorder, but a symptom of a
much larger problem. I like the title and think it was a fascinating and intentional plot related
choice by Von trier, for this reason that Joe does display other issues like low self esteem,
loneliness, and, attachment avoidance. I like the title it made me think about how we use words.
Furthermore, this movie is touted as a pro feminist love

The Destruction Of Ahab s Struggle In Moby Dick
Today, every person has a reason for why they succeed or fail with their struggles. For instance,
in Moby Dick, Ahab s reason to carry on is to conquer and kill Moby Dick a legendary white

of this story, expresses Ahab s madness in the quote, Aye, aye! And I ll chase him round Good

Abstract Most projects are initiated, planned, executed and monitored and controlled with the full
cognizant of executives and clients. However, once the project has been considered an overall

Conclusion
The risk of skipping planned project activities as listed by Robert Wysocki (2009, pp.283 288) is
a big threat for the likelihood of future problems. This is the case with 2 projects in South Sudan.
The first had close out problems because client condition of satisfaction for deliverables was not
documented at the start of the project, nor was it tracked, updated, discussed and agreed. During
close out, senior management from the client and contractor blamed each other for not having a
plan making close out a war of words to be settled by an Arbitrator. Also, another project, although
with a documented close out plan that was reviewed and updated on a monthly basis, did not
include an agreement as to who would be the receptor of project asset. This brought chaos during
closure when government claimed all assets should be turn over to them and the donor refused,
simply because there was no indication of this in the close out document. If close out activities are
not performed before closing the project the risks are very highly likely to have more threats than
opportunities.

Helen Keller Speech
As humans, it is only natural to take countless things for granted as we live our daily lives. There
is beauty that surrounds us like the majestic Rocky Mountains, the crisp blue skies, birds
sweetly singing in the early morning, or even the simple sound of someone s loving voice.
People are born with the ability to see and hear the everyday activities going on around them but
for some less fortunate, these abilities are not a characteristic they possess. Living as a deaf or
blind person in today s society certainly would have its challenges but can you imagine the
obstacles and battles for someone who was deaf, dumb and blind living life over one hundred
years ago? One incredible woman was faced with such a challenge and she accomplished more in
her lifetime than most women did with out any handicap and her name is Helen Keller. Helen Keller
is a celebrated woman in American history who accomplished countless achievements and paved
the way for the deaf and blind community by inspiring millions and showing how to prove yourself
when the odds are stacked against you.
Before the age of two, Helen was diagnosed with a disease that took away her ability to see and
hear. Her disease was rare and hard to understand and her doctor referred to it as brain fever but
may have been scarlet fever or meningitis. As a young girl, she had minimal ways to communicate.
Often, she would express herself through throwing tantrums or by laughing uncontrollably. Helen

Lolita Essay
De victimizing Lolita: Removing Emotion from the Classroom
Abstract: This paper focuses on Vladimir Nabokov s novel Lolita. Specifically the argument
discusses the need for reform within the classroom setting regarding student reaction and
interpretation to the text. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially
constructed presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the
text, and this tendency limits the discussion. This paper argues that, for a teacher attempting to
teach this novel, it is important to limit the amount of emotionally reactionary responses and guide
the class towards a more allegorical or symbolic representation of the text. This paper is intended for

However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my
graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s
transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius
behind the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the
author, or is Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss?
Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokovthe
pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication
of a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become
entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the
narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was
prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three
years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. The
novel was published three years earlier in France because Nabokov could not find an American
publisher ready to risk publishing it (Tamir Ghez 65). Critical theory since this time has uncovered
multiple layers of interpretation that offer much more meaningful analysis of the novel

Ethical Issues In College Sports
Throughout the history of college sports, athletes have been viewed as student athletes. However,
in the last two decades, universities have placed an emphasis on athletes and the sports they play,
rather than their education and well being. School has not been coming first, and this has caused a
struggle for athletes to become eligible to make grades. For example, the Universityof North
Carolina had paper classes where the football players would get credits, but did not need to show up
for class; they only had to complete one paper and most got A s or B s.
Throughout the film, many stereotypes were presented and highlighted to make the athletes look
like something they were not. The film mentioned that C s get degrees, which degrades those who
play college sports by saying that athletes do not try in school are uneducated. However, this ...

Devon Ramsey was a scholar through high school and aspired to be one in college. He was the
player on the team that the coaches never had to worry about him making grades. However,
throughout his college career, he sent one email, containing a rough draft of an essay, to a tutor for
help. Years later, this email came to haunt him. Devon Ramsay s actions were declared academic
fraud and this led the NCAA to believe that the University and Ramsey were unethical. This reveals
the theme of totality of control, as athletes are controlled by rules, so they do not commit any
NCAA violations. Since athletes are restricted by rules and regulation, this begs the questions if
athletes are amateurs or servants to the university. There is a major different between Amateurism
and Servitude in college sports. Amateurism is playing

The Dehumanization And Consequences Of Slave Codes In America
Slaves were forced to work in the colonies and already had very limited freedom, but to make it
worse slave codes was then created. Slave codes were biased laws created by the English colonies
and soon later enforced to the American English colonies. Sometimes slave codes would differ
from state to state. It restricted African Americans rights whether they were free or not. Even if an
African American was free, they weren t truly free because of the restrictions of the slave codes.
Colonists pride themselves needing to be the more dominant and supreme person. Slave codes were
tightened after every slave rebellion, in effort to prevent them from escaping and diminishing the
chance of it happening again. The slave codes became an obstacle that enslaved African Americans
faced, taking their opportunity away to expand, improved their population as well as their culture.
Slave codes stripped enslaved African Americans of their identity, making them forget where they
came from or belong. The slave codes stole their voice, replacing it with the colonists ignorance and
complete dominance over African Americans. The slave codes became a depiction of the
dehumanization, humiliation, and the psychological damage of subjugated slaves. Although the
constitution has wrote in fine print that all men are created equal, the slave codes have proven the
statement wrong in placement of stating some are tortured because of their ethnicity. Slave codes

Why Capital Was Moved To Constantinople
Why the Capital was Moved to Constantinople
Constantine founded Constantinople in A.D. 330 and built a prospering empire, but before he
made the momentous decision to move the capital he had to ensure that the original empire was
still functioning and manageable. He made sure to gain and secure the entire empire in only 18
years. When Constantine made the choice to move the capital, the center of power shifted with it to
the East. Even though the capital was relocated, Constantine established that he would keep the
majority of Rome s customs. Both Rome and the Byzantine empire spoke Latin, had the same
philosophies, had the same laws but Constantinople refined it s laws as the Justinian Code. Also,
they were strict about religion, conquered an abundant amount of land, gave out free food and
entertainment, and had houses styled in the same fashion. Even though the capital was moved,
Constantine kept Diocletian s ideas about social and economic policies. There was one considerable
difference which was their religion, Constantinople was a Christian city. Instead of temples, they
built many churches, one of them was the Hagia Sophia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Prince Sports has managed to remain in their field, but the task was not easy. They have been in

also managing to expand their products. In doing so, they have needed to keep their company
ahead of trends that have occurred in the market. So far, they have managed to do so, but with the

The same can be said for trends and products. They have witnessed what a mistake it is to ignore
their past progress and simply focus on what is next. While it is important to spend a great deal of
time working towards advancement, especially in a market that is rising. However, it is very
difficult to ignore what brought about all of these changes and what has been working (Kerin,
Hartley amp; Rudelius, 2013).
Another challenge that they may face includes economic changes. Since, Prince Sports markets
their product internationally, they need to pay attention to the economies of all the countries they
distribute to. Significant changes in an economy can greatly change their customer base and needs
resulting in new marketing tactics having to be put in place (Benoit amp; Gleason, 2012).
Prince Sports can stay ahead of the changes they possibly face if they keep in mind when Linda
Glassel said It s learning, it s studying, it s talking to people who understand where the market is
going (Pg. 241). In order to stay ahead and take on any challenges that come their way, they need
to employ research methods that can help them solve their problems and come up with new ideas
for marketing their products. Besides using the Five Step marketing approach, there are specific
aspects they should pay close attention to. As a part of step three, they need to collect data, both

Oedipus Rex Rhetorical Analysis
When a person is betrayed, the outcomes are usually misery and heartache. Betrayal can have
many different forms and motives. A person can betray another because he or she is driven by
jealousy, greed, impulse or fear. Humans do not only deceive other people but they also have the
ability to mislead themselves. A person s mind can become corroded which can lead to the
distortion of one s rational train of thought. Emotions can also take over a person s sense of
judgement which could lead to misfortune. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, Laius s foolish deceptionof
himself displays the nature of betrayal. Having a fear of destiny can lead to one s downfall. Many

Everyone has acquired selfishness, but some are more inclined to indulge in it than others. In
the poem Oedipus Rex, Jocasta stated that The days [her] baby lived were scarcely three/ when
Laius yoked his feet and had a man/ abandon him on pathless hills to die./ Apollo didn t make his
words come true,/ he didn t make my son patricide, and Laius didn t die the way he feared,...
Lines 716 721 Laius was so self involved and worried that he would be killed that he gave up the
life of his own son. He thought that if he had the baby left to die that the prophecy would not
come true. By being selfish, he gave up the life of his son and caused terror and turmoil on many
people. His self centered nature set the prophecy in motion to come true and have him die at the
hands of his son. If he had not left Oedipus out of fear for his own life, Jocasta never would have
died. She would never have faced the terrible truth that her son was her husband. Finally, Laius
caused Oedipus to become mentally unstable and a murderer. By leaving Oedipus on the
mountainside to die, Laius also left Oedipus with a questioning mentality. Throughout the book,
Oedipus is always questioning himself and fate. Who am I? Who killed the King? What should I
do? Why did this happen to me? Laius made Oedipus question everything in his life, for Laius left

Eleven By Sandra Cisneros Summary
Have you ever been embarrassed? Well if you have then you can probably relate to how Rachel
feels. In the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros, the main character, Rachel, is insecure at school.
She is insecure because she thinks negatively about other people and other things, also that she
is insecure because she is very emotional. One way that Rachel is insecure is that she is always
thinking negative about about things and other people in her class. For instance, in the part of
Eleven when Mrs. Price tells she to put the sweater on and she does I put one arm through the
sleeve of the sweater that smells like cottage cheese, and then the other arm through and the
other and then stand there with my arms apart like if the sweater hurts me . As you can see all
Rachel can think about the sweater is how ugly and smelly it is. To add on to that, she sounds
like she is judging Sylvia, the one that said earlier in the story when Mrs. Price asks whos the
sweater is and nobody claims it I think it belongs to Rachel and the teacher believes her. Towards

Social Issues
Business Brief The problem of state presence in socio economic life has always been and will be
the subject of heated discussions among economists, sociologists and political scientists. This issue
is not only an ideological one, but also of significant importance for the state functioning. It is
undisputable that the implementation of particular tasks by the state turns out indispensable for the
functioning of society, however, in terms of market existence the underlying advantages, to be

licenses, patents. State intervention at private markets generates costs, unpredictable consequences
and is often more damaging than purposeful. The state frequently builds obstacles preventing
economic growth. In many cases state regulations raise company functioning costs, slow down
decision making processes and limit access to resources necessary for the production of goods and
the provision of services. Finally, it is the consumer who suffers unfavorable effects of such
regulations. One of the negative side effects, in terms of the state interference in the social sphere,
are administration costs covered by the state budget and spent on running and supporting federal
agencies. Another negative factor takes the form of bureaucratic inclinations presented by clerks in
creating regulations the objective of which is often lost among inadequate requirements, the maze
of rules difficult to overcome for consumers and entrepreneurs in order to meet due requirements.
Additionally, entrepreneurs themselves are trying to extend the scope of regulations by seeking
ways to use them to their own advantage. The costs to be covered by entrepreneurs refer to the
necessary documentation, accounting and legal advice, employing consultants and experts, the
purchase of necessary equipment, but also the cost of waiting time for indispensable

The Effects Of School Violence On Today s Youth
Abstract
This research investigates definitions of school violence in general and as a subset of youth
violence in particular and investigates and the core environmental factors and the individual student
risk factors found to contribute to school violence. The research also includes investigation into the
effects of school violence on today s youth in general and the negative outcomes of school violence
including poor physical health, poor mental health, poor academic achievement, and a decreased
sense of safety/well being in particular. The research concludes with an exploration of some of the
prevention and intervention strategies proven to be effective in reducing violence in other countries
from a school based bullying/victimization intervention program implemented in Norwegian
schools, to a South African social development curriculum to cognitive behavioral training
programs to community and school based media campaigns developed for teaching social skills
around anger management, impulse control, and empathy that need to be implemented in American
schools to keep our children safe.
From physical, mental and sexual abuse to theft and vandalism to murder, violent acts in
American schools continue to be a growing problem. In a 2011 survey of high school aged
youth, 12 percent reported being in a physical fight on school property in a 12 month period

This study will provide additional evidence based research to validate the usefulness of this tool in
practice. The NHS incident rates (NICE, 2003) of pressure ulcers in the UK is a concern and this
systematic review is an accepted, research approach in its own right and using descriptive statistical
data measures the outcome of results more precisely (Gerrish, 2006). The measurable variables
identified were positive predictive values (PPV), comorbidities, mobility and usefulness of the
Waterlow tool in clinical practice.
Background
The researchers show the significant clinical problems of morbidity and mortality as a worthy
argument for this study. Cost and financial burdens to the healthcare system are mentioned,
prevalence of pressure ulcers at 12.7% necessitate the need for improvements in critical care
settings. This study measures the effectiveness of the tool by using specific and sensitive PPV
NPV (negative predictive Vales) to define the myriad of variables. These variables and predictive
outcomes and are an integral part of the validity and reliability of the studies outcome. (Sacket et al,
2000).
Aim
The aim of this article was to assess the validity of the Waterlow Scale instrument using a
longitudinal cohort of internal medical patients. To identify risk factors contributing to the injury of
pressure ulcers (information outlined in the abstract overview of the study) (BJN, 2010).

Theories And Theories Of An Observation On The Sacred Disease
Reasoning from observations has been important to scientific practice at least since the time of
Aristotle. This view is motivated by the assumption that the epistemic value of an observation
report depends upon its truth or accuracy. However, perception is imposed upon scientific thinkers
by their paradigm and theoretical commitments. Developmental ideas are consequently the result of
theoryand technology ladenness of observations. Theories and technology have a corporate
communication, where technological development can generate new organizational theories and
previous theories can inspire new technologies or practices. This is evident in the medical writings
of the Hippocratics, Methodists, Erasistratus, and Aristotle.

The author does not dismiss the divine cause of a disease. It was believed that the gods and the
forces of nature were one in the same. In addition, the other presupposition was that body is related
to and affected by the environment. Consequently, the author observes that treatment was sustained
by the observation of the external signs . This leads the author to search for the physical mechanism
that occurs in the body to create the disease. In his observations, the author concludes that
imbalances of the elements in the body (like the environment) cause disease. While physical and
rational observations allow the author to properly treat a disease, the author s methods of allopathy
are built upon the theoretical presupposition that the gods have indefinite power over the human
body.
Alternately, the Methodists develop a logical, simplified understanding of medicine base of the
teachings of Asclepiades and the Roman medical schools in the Hellenistic era. The Methodists
hold that the Art of Medicine consists of such observations; which they define as a sort of way,
which they name methodos, and maintain that medicine should examine those characteristics
which diseases have in common (Celsus, On Medicine, proem. 56). They conclude that medicine is
no more than the awareness of general, recurring features that manifest in a tangible way. They are
not concerned with the hidden causes of the disease, as the

Compare And Contrast Updake And A Hunger Artist By Frann...
At some point in our lives we stop and think of the things we do or say and come to an
understanding of what we are, who we are. We acknowledge our place in society and the certain
contributions we have towards it. It may or may not be incredibly outstanding in a sense but that
alone allows us to realize our importance. There are examples of this in the two stories I will be
comparing and contrasting. John Updike s A P and Franz Kafkas A HungerArtist . A protagonist s
actions should not dictate their role as a hero or a be all and end all. In John Updike s A P we
are introduced to the main character, Sammy, a cashier at a supermarket in a small town. He is
a person not like the others at this store. While others are conservative and boring, Sammy is
someone who feels he is at the wrong place at the wrong time every single day. But this certain
day, in comes girls in their bathing suits. It quickly catches his eye because bikinis in a grocery
store are unusual. It does not weird him out, it interests him. He takes long glances and observes
them as they wander through the store. Watching their every move and describing every small
detail of each and one of them. It is somewhat perverted because at the time, he sees them as
objects, as eye candy. He judges them based on assumptions of what they are doing and wearing
and even singles out the queen of the group. Sammy describes her in a very condescending way.
Do you really think it s a mind in there or just a little buzz like a bee in a glass jar? is quite a
misogynistic view of how women s minds work.
Our initial impression of Sammy would cause us to think that he hates women but it is the
complete opposite. He just has a very imaginative mind with different opinions. The girls finish
shopping and enter Sammy s lane. As he is ringing them up, Lengel, the store manager walks in
and notices the girls. He scolds them on their clothing choice and demands appropriate attire from
them. The girls get embarrassed and Sammy clearly sees that. As they begin to walk out of the
store, Sammy quits his job because he wants to be seen as the bigger person in that whole
situation, a hero. When he leaves the store, the girls are gone. They were not around to see his

American Born Chinese Essay
The tale American Born Chinese by Gene Luch Wang depicts the story of three characters, Monkey,
Jin, and Danny. They all have the problem of fitting into their new environments. Jin Wang has to
deal with Asian stereotypes. Danny has to deal with embarrassment of his cousin. Lastly, Monkey
has to deal with the fact that there is no position for him in the heavenly ranks. However, over time,
these characters have to come together to fit in. Yet the question remains: what exactly about fitting
in is the problem? Although Jin Wang takes the form of Danny to reject his Chinese roots, the
embarrassment of Chin Knee shows he cannot hide behind a false American identity, thereby
delineating that raceis the source of his problem.
In response to situations where he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Jin is alienated due to the sole fact of his appearance, which happens to be different
from the rest of the class. Moreover, Jin s roots create assumptions, or stereotypes, rather. As stated
earlier, his classmates thought he ate digs because he was Asian, resulting because of his
appearance. When acting as Danny, he was not suspected for being Asian, because he looked like
the typical American kid, but when Chin Knee came he detailed Chinese stereotypes so
humorously that Danny was made fun of because of his cousin, another form of racism. For
example, Danny had to switch schools because he was made fun of so much, and he stated, By
the time he leaves, no one thinks of me as Danny anymore. I m Chin Knee s cousin (127). This
statement shows how bad Chin Knee has an effect on Danny and his social life. He is constantly
degraded with guffaws about China and his cousin, and despite Danny s American roots, he is
faced with racism because of his cousin. Therefore, race really is the problem, for Danny is
ostracized about Chinese culture, and Jin is ostracized because of his

  • 2. The Monroe Doctrine Dbq в †In December of 1823 James Monroe presented the Monroe Doctrine to Congress. It announced that the American continents are henceforth not to be considered subjects for future colonization by any European power. This was set in place to adress American anxiety about Latin America and Russian Expansion beyond its settlements. Although this was just a statement and Monroe s words carried no force European nations stayed out of New Word affairs because they feared the Royal Navy. Around this time things were developing industrially within the United States. The Industrial Revolution began in England due to their abundant raw materials and their rich coal but it would eventually venture into the United States. Transportation, new inventions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the major advantages of the North was their transportation routes. They had many more roads, canals, and railroads which meant that they were no longer limited to where they lived. In the North they built factories and the cities were industrialized. They believed that you must work hard no matter rich or poor. The people of the north had a greater population but they did not allow slavery and they encouraged the South to do the same. As opposed to the south, the people of the north wanted a strong national government and they wanted high protective tariffs. If there were high protective tariffs then there would not be as much demand for cotton in the south causing there to be a lesser need for slaves. Within the north there were many job opportunities in the factories for not only men but now women and children. The women had a set schedule of when they worked in order to make their fathers happy and it was based on faith. Starbucks is known for their friendly, positive environment with staff that is truly accommodating and welcoming. Starbucks stands strong in the world coffee industry and still is financially succeeding even in hard economic times with coffee that may seem overpriced to many. The coffee industry is continually growing regardless of the increase cost of coffee since January 2009. The price has been rising not because of the price of coffee itself, but because of the supply chain and the current economic situation around the world. In 2012, Starbucks had to raise their prices globally, but especially in the United States and China, due to rising prices of coffee and other ingredients they use to make their signature drinks. Although prices were raised globally due to high demand of the product and the cost of producing it, there is still a strong demand for Starbucks because of their large consumer base. The film industry does not consider changing the appeal of entertainment due to this issue. The film industry is dependent on adults and children alike in order to sustain their economic success. Without the support of the general public, their profit would plummet and create chaos in the entertainment industry itself. While not allowing children to attend rated R movies with their parents seems like the simplest solution, it is not a plausible one. Upset parents and loss of profit for billion dollar companies impedes this solution s implementation. The dangers of children being exposed to violence in media content is a great concern to many but not to the film industry. Additionally, many parents are uninformed and do not recognize the potential harm associated with exposing children to fictionalized violence. I spoke to Amanda at the end of my shift about the incident and my concerns about the verbal allegations. I ve written a brief summary of the event. Roughly 35 30 minutes left for the shift. We had received an email on the new closing call protocol and a few of us were discussing the verbiage. Mac and I were discussing how we could put in place the new closing into our statements during our 0800 1400 calls. While we were discussing this, Jasmine turned to me and asked what I was doing. I answer that I was working, and asked if she needed my help anything. She responded with no , but that I looked like I wasn t working and implied that I should be on the phone taking calls. If memory serves me correct, if you aren t busy you should be ready. She then asked if I was even on the phone. This was the first day that a few of us were told not to be in the phones, so I was not logged in to take calls. I told her I was finishing up some work and I did not engage after I replied. I turned to my computer to complete an email on the dispute inbox. I was following up on it being cleared and let Bobbie Jo and Art know that I left a few emails in there until Monday. While I was finishing this, Mac was voicing her concerns about forgetting the new closing and not being able to complete in the closing of the call. • 7. The Fundamental Issue Of Stakeholder Management INTRODUCTION Stakeholder theory The fundamental issue in stakeholder management is to specify stakeholders or answer this question that who stakeholders are. There is not much agreement on stakeholder definition among researchers and project management experts. Mitchel states that various concepts in relation to stakeholder definition is due to their views to organisation or firm. So there are narrow and broad definitions. For instance, Freeman s definition is broad one. He defines stakeholder as any group or individual who can affect or be affected by the achievement of organisation or firm s objectives. In contrast, Clarkson has narrower view as he considers risk for stakeholder concept. He believes this risk is due to form of investment in that firm. In fact, basis of narrow view can be due to limitation in resources, budget, time or form of organisation s asset. PMBOK s stakeholder definition is similar to Freeman s definition. The only difference is that organisation is also can be a stakeholder and influence or impact can be due to decision or outcome of a project. Management of stakeholders in projects Project stakeholder management contains processes to identify stakeholders, their expectations, concerns, needs, interests and their influences in the first step and then to adopt appropriate management strategies to engage the identified stakeholders in project execution in the next step. When Aunt Lis opened the door, they chimed Trick or treat! and she gave them each a handful of candy. Just as the group cheered in appreciation while they left our house, another group of kids showed up for a repeat of the same. What in the world was going on? we asked. Noke and Lis quickly explained that it was Halloween; an annual tradition celebrated on October 31. The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows Eve and trick or treating, is an activity for children who proceed from house to house, dressed in costumes, asking for a treat with the question, Trick or treat? The trick is a lighthearted threat to play a prank on the homeowner or his property if no treat; usually in the form of candy, is given. Trick or treating is one of the main traditions of Halloween and the beginning of the Holiday Season. Ellen and I were fascinated and eager to join the festivities, consequently, Aunt Lis loaned me a blue and white Japanese Kimono and a pair of house slippers while Ellen dressed in Oma s housecoat and shoes. Chaperoned by our mom and Aunt Lis, we carried an empty white pillowcase to hold all the candy we anticipated collecting and off we went to the neighbors homes for our first trick or treating experience. • 11. Descartes Method Of Radical Doubt Descartes method of radical doubt focuses upon finding the truth about certain things from a philosophical perspective in order to truly lay down a foundation for ideas that have the slightest notion of doubt attached to them. He believed that there was no greater task to perform in philosophy, than assiduously to seek out, once and for all, the best of all these arguments and to lay them out so precisely and plainly that henceforth all will take them to be true demonstrations (Meditations, 36). The two key concepts that Descartes proves using the method of doubt are that the human soul does not die with the body, and that God exists as mentioned in his Letter of Dedication, since there are many that don t believe the mentioned concepts because of the fact that they have not been proven or demonstrated. (Meditations, 35). In order to prove the above, he lays out six Meditations, each focusing on a different theme that leads us to the knowledge of our mind and of God, so that of all things that can be known by the human mind, these latter are the most certain and the most evident (Meditations, 40). By carrying out the method of doubt, we are able to free ourselves from all prejudices with the intention of being able to withdraw our mind from our senses. In doing so, we set a base for being able to decipher the truth from the falsity (Meditations, 39). The reasoning to doubt not only comes from the desire to learn the truth, but to establish anything firm and lasting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conclusion The risk of skipping planned project activities as listed by Robert Wysocki (2009, pp.283 288) is a big threat for the likelihood of future problems. This is the case with 2 projects in South Sudan. The first had close out problems because client condition of satisfaction for deliverables was not documented at the start of the project, nor was it tracked, updated, discussed and agreed. During close out, senior management from the client and contractor blamed each other for not having a plan making close out a war of words to be settled by an Arbitrator. Also, another project, although with a documented close out plan that was reviewed and updated on a monthly basis, did not include an agreement as to who would be the receptor of project asset. This brought chaos during closure when government claimed all assets should be turn over to them and the donor refused, simply because there was no indication of this in the close out document. If close out activities are not performed before closing the project the risks are very highly likely to have more threats than opportunities. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially constructed presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the text, and this tendency limits the discussion. However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius behind the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the author, or is Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss? Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokovthe pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication of a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. Throughout the film, many stereotypes were presented and highlighted to make the athletes look like something they were not. The film mentioned that C s get degrees, which degrades those who play college sports by saying that athletes do not try in school are uneducated. However, this ... Devon Ramsay s actions were declared academic fraud and this led the NCAA to believe that the University and Ramsey were unethical. This reveals the theme of totality of control, as athletes are controlled by rules, so they do not commit any NCAA violations. Since athletes are restricted by rules and regulation, this begs the questions if athletes are amateurs or servants to the university. The Dehumanization And Consequences Of Slave Codes In America Slaves were forced to work in the colonies and already had very limited freedom, but to make it worse slave codes was then created. Slave codes were biased laws created by the English colonies and soon later enforced to the American English colonies. Sometimes slave codes would differ from state to state. It restricted African Americans rights whether they were free or not. Even if an African American was free, they weren t truly free because of the restrictions of the slave codes. Colonists pride themselves needing to be the more dominant and supreme person. Slave codes were tightened after every slave rebellion, in effort to prevent them from escaping and diminishing the chance of it happening again. The slave codes became an obstacle that enslaved African Americans faced, taking their opportunity away to expand, improved their population as well as their culture. Slave codes stripped enslaved African Americans of their identity, making them forget where they came from or belong. The slave codes stole their voice, replacing it with the colonists ignorance and complete dominance over African Americans. The slave codes became a depiction of the dehumanization, humiliation, and the psychological damage of subjugated slaves. We acknowledge our place in society and the certain contributions we have towards it. It may or may not be incredibly outstanding in a sense but that alone allows us to realize our importance. There are examples of this in the two stories I will be comparing and contrasting. John Updike s A P and Franz Kafkas A HungerArtist . A protagonist s actions should not dictate their role as a hero or a be all and end all. In John Updike s A P we are introduced to the main character, Sammy, a cashier at a supermarket in a small town. He is a person not like the others at this store. While others are conservative and boring, Sammy is someone who feels he is at the wrong place at the wrong time every single day. But this certain day, in comes girls in their bathing suits. It quickly catches his eye because bikinis in a grocery store are unusual. It does not weird him out, it interests him. He takes long glances and observes them as they wander through the store. Watching their every move and describing every small detail of each and one of them. It is somewhat perverted because at the time, he sees them as objects, as eye candy. He judges them based on assumptions of what they are doing and wearing and even singles out the queen of the group. Sammy describes her in a very condescending way. Do you really think it s a mind in there or just a little buzz like a bee in a glass jar? is quite a misogynistic view of how women s minds work. Our initial impression of Sammy would cause us to think that he hates women but it is the complete opposite. He just has a very imaginative mind with different opinions. He scolds them on their clothing choice and demands appropriate attire from them. The girls get embarrassed and Sammy clearly sees that.
