CONSUMER RIGHTS
SOCIAL SCIENCE PROJECT
WHO IS A CONSUMER ?
A consumer is a person or a group
who intends to order, orders, or uses
purchased goods, products,
or services primarily for
personal, social, family, household
and similar needs, not directly related
to entrepreneurial or business
activities.
WHAT ARE CONSUMER RIGHTS ?
Consumer right is 'the right to
have information about the
quality, potency, quantity, purity,
price and standard of goods or
services', as it may be the case,
but the consumer is to be
protected against any unfair
practices of trade. It is very
essential for the consumers to
know these rights.
BASIC CONSUMER RIGHTS
There are 8 basic consumer rights guaranteed to every consumer. These are:
1. Right to Basic Needs - which guarantees survival, adequate food,
clothing, shelter, health care, education and sanitation. With this right,
consumers can look forward to the availability of basic and prime
commodities at affordable prices and good quality.
2. Right to Safety—the consumer should be protected against the
marketing of goods or the provision of services that are hazardous to
health and life.
3. Right to Information—the consumer should be protected against
dishonest or misleading advertising or labeling and has the right to be
given the facts and information needed to make an informed choice.
4. Right to Choose—the consumer has the right to choose
from among various products at competitive prices with an
assurance of satisfactory quality.
5. Right to Choose—the consumer has the right to choose
from among various products at competitive prices with an
assurance of satisfactory quality.
6. Right to Redress— the right to be compensated for
misrepresentation, shoddy goods or unsatisfactory services.
7. Right to Consumer Education -which is the right to acquire
knowledge and skills necessary to be an informed customer.
8. Right to a Healthy Environment—the right to live and work
in an environment which is neither threatening nor dangerous
and which permits a life of dignity and well-being.
HOW TO CLAIM CONSUMER RIGHTS ?Now lets find out what do if any of our consumer
rights get violated.
According to the new Consumer Protection Rights
Act 2019, the consumer has right to file complaint
to district, state, or national commission .
He or she need not to hire a lawyer for filling the
suite.
According to new act a complaint can be filed
online on 3 commissions based on the amount of
dispute.
If the two parties don’t settle mutually then the
case is taken to consumer court.
CONSUMER RIGHTS AWARENESS
Despite digital age and online filing of consumer complaints the
consumers are not aware about their rights.
