Constance Markievicz was born in London in 1868 to a wealthy Anglo-Irish family and studied art in London and Paris. She fought for Irish independence in the Easter Rising of 1916, Irish War of Independence, and Irish Civil War, becoming the first woman elected to the British House of Commons in 1918 but did not take her seat. She died in 1927 and is famous for being the first female cabinet minister and fighting for Ireland's independence.
