Confucius was a Chinese philosopher born in the 6th century BC whose teachings formed the foundation of Confucianism. Confucianism became the official state philosophy in China for over 2000 years. Some key Confucian concepts include filial piety, respect for family and ancestors, and emphasis on learning and morality in government. Confucianism influenced all aspects of Chinese society, from education and government to personal conduct and etiquette. While some early dynasties suppressed Confucianism, it was embraced by the Han Dynasty and helped establish an improved system of ruling based on morality and ethics.
